Leeds United picked up another impressive result away from home. We drew 1-1 against a Tottenham side embroiled in a relegation battle.

Daniel Farke’s side had nothing to play for after already being mathematically safe. Although, Jermaine Defoe was impressed with the Whites’ work ethic and general performance against Spurs.

Defoe was not the only one to be impressed with United during their trip to the capital. Jamie Carragher also waxed lyrical about Leeds and the way they have adapted to the Premier League.

Andy Goldstein labels Leeds United “fortunate” to draw against Spurs

This sentiment was not shared by talkSPORT pundit Andy Goldstein. He instead took a sly dig at Leeds live on air when talking about the game.

The game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium had plenty of major refereeing decisions. Leeds were awarded a penalty after Ethan Ampadu was kicked in the head by Mathys Tel.

James Maddison also felt he should have been awarded a spot kick in the dying minutes of the affair after being brought down by Lukas Nmecha. Since then, the midfielder taking to social media to voice his frustrations.

When speaking about the game on talkSPORT, Goldstein had his say. He made a major claim regarding the match that is certain to ruffle the feathers of United supporters.

“It was a really poor game. I thought Tottenham were poor, but Leeds were a little bit fortunate, not to get the penalty, because it was a penalty, but to get something out of the game,” Goldstein said.

Given Goldstein’s allegiance to Manchester United, it’s no surprise to see him not give the Whites credit despite putting in a gutsy away performance.

Away record is something Leeds United can improve next season

Hopefully, if we invest adequately in the summer, we can go to places like the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and pick up all three points as opposed to just one.

Despite us being comfortably safe, we have managed to pick up just two away wins all season. Those came at Molineux and Old Trafford.

Our away record is the third-worst in the Premier League this season. And, whilst I disagree with Goldstein that we were lucky to get a result against Spurs, both sides were poor at times, particularly in the final third.

I’m not naive enough to think we can go out and attack every team away from home. But, if we can play more free-flowing football in spells, similar to how we do at Elland Road, then we could potentially pick up more away wins next season.

Our squad has been so likeable this campaign and displayed tremendous character and work ethic. If we can just sprinkle in a bit more individual quality, then there is no reason why we can’t be confident. We could be picking up all three points at a few more away grounds next season, and not just one.
