The Liverpool icon is expected to become Tottenham’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
A close shave with relegation has prompted Tottenham Hotspur into decisive action ahead of the summer transfer window.
A massive summer lies ahead for the Lilywhites. The Hotspur Way chiefs must get things right if Roberto De Zerbi is to guide them back towards European contention. With that in mind, they have already commenced plans to welcome fresh faces to the club this summer.
Earlier this week, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Tottenham have struck a verbal agreement to sign Andy Robertson following the end of his contract at Liverpool. Spurs are set to welcome the Scot as potentially the first signing of the summer transfer window. The veteran left-back has turned down a late offer from Juventus to say yes to becoming a part of De Zerbi’s project.
John Wenham thrilled with Tottenham agreeing terms to sign Andy Robertson
Andy Robertson will be a Tottenham player next season after agreeing on terms ahead of a free transfer this summer. An agreement is in place in principle, with only the finer details to iron out before the move becomes official. The move was contingent on Spurs staying in the top flight, and after De Zerbi guided them to safety, the Liverpool great is set to join the Italian’s forces in North London.
Reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham has shared his ecstasy after learning about Tottenham agreeing terms to sign Robertson on a free transfer from Liverpool. He has called the Scotland international a “real leader”, someone who will bring plenty of top-level experience and raise the standards at Tottenham.
“Delighted, he is exactly the experience we desperately need and what De Zerbi spoke about,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“A real leader that will raise the levels, Romano’s update specifically references that he was wanted by De Zerbi.”
Robertson is going to be a shrewd signing for Tottenham
Robertson was regarded as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League for several years when Liverpool was managed by Jurgen Klopp. During the Klopp era, the Scotsman won multiple trophies and formed a great connection with the Anfield faithful.
He has made 332 appearances in the Premier League and played 66 times in the Champions League in a Red shirt, which shows the top-level experience Robertson will be bringing to Spurs. At 32, the ex-Hull City player is past his peak and has lost a yard or two of pace, but he will still add a lot of value to De Zerbi’s dressing room. The Glasgow-born star’s leadership, winning mentality and volumes of experience should come in handy for Spurs next season.
On a free transfer, it is a shrewd move from the North Londoners. They will hope it turns out to be an inspired acquisition for De Zerbi’s side.
