Tottenham have work to do to improve their attacking ranks for the 2026/27 season.
Now, after a miserable campaign in which Tottenham Hotspur narrowly avoided relegation, the hierarchy are ready to back head coach Roberto De Zerbi in the transfer market to rebuild the squad.
De Zerbi will turn his focus to adding reinforcements to the squad in the upcoming summer transfer window, with arrivals and departures expected. The attacking unit could become the main area of concern, owing to the Lilywhites’ problems in creating and scoring goals during the recently concluded campaign.
Tottenham’s wide area badly needs more spark. Injuries to players like Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert hurt them badly, and coaches Thomas Frank, Igor Tudor and De Zerbi had to use players out of position on the flanks. Plus, the decision not to replace former skipper Son Heung-min came back to bite the North Londoners.
Tottenham keeping close tabs on Marcus Rashford’s situation
It isn’t surprising that the Tottenham bosses are scouring the market for wingers. Now, according to a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Spurs are closely monitoring the situation of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. Their cross-town rivals, Arsenal, are also keeping tabs on him.
Marcus Rashford spent the most recent campaign on a season-long loan at Barcelona, where he appeared to get back his mojo. The England international notched an impressive 28-goal contribution across all competitions, helping Barcelona reclaim the La Liga title from bitter rivals Real Madrid.
The Spanish club retain a £26million option to buy Rashford from Manchester United, and the forward also wants to remain at the Nou Camp. They have until June 15 to activate their £26million option to buy Rashford, although reports suggest that Hansi Flick’s club have an interest in another loan arrangement. This is in the wake of Man United’s continued persistence that they are not interested in renegotiating the option fee to sell their academy graduate.
With Barcelona closing in on the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United and also considering a big-money move for Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, Rashford’s future has become uncertain once again. This has put clubs like Tottenham and Arsenal on red alert.
Should Tottenham make a move for Marcus Rashford?
Rashford’s preference is to join Barcelona permanently from Man United after an impressive loan spell. Should a move not transpire, Tottenham must open the door for him to stay in the Premier League.
The Man United star would bring pace, directness, flair and natural one-v-one ability, which is exactly the sort of thing De Zerbi usually likes in wide players. Rashford could become one of the main attacking components at White Hart Lane, adding goals and creativity from wide areas. The Englishman has proven himself in the Premier League with Man United and Aston Villa, so he could come in and make an impact straightaway for Spurs.
Even though Tottenham have had a dismal 2025/26 season, they have a quality head coach and some really capable players at his disposal. With some quality acquisition, we could bounce back strongly next season. Rashford could become a part of De Zerbi’s project and elevate the squad, provided he takes a big wage cut, as the North Londoners cannot afford to fulfil his salary demands.
