Tottenham have started the season brilliantly under Thomas Frank and the Dane will be keen to bolster his squad in the closing days of the transfer window.
However, one man who is yet to feature under Frank is Romanian centre-back Radu Dragusin.
Having joined the club from Genoa at the start of 2024, the 23-year-old has always been a back-up to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, and his career in North London further stalled when Dragusin sustained an ACL injury in January.
With Frank rebuilding his Spurs squad to fit his footballing philosophy, it feels like Dragusin could be heading for the exit.
Spurs interest in young prospect spells bad news for Radu Dragusin
According to Ajansspor, Spurs have renewed their interest in Fenerbahce defender Yusuf Akcicek.
MORE SPURS STORIES
The 19-year-old broke into the first team under former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho, and has become a mainstay ever since.
Spurs were initially linked with the Akcicek in March, while Ange Postecoglu was still in charge.
The Turkish talent has also garnered interest from Inter, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Manchester United as he looks to make the next step in his career.
If Spurs were to complete this signing, Dragusin’s future would look incredibly bleak and he may already be packing his bags.
Not only is he already injured, but the emergence of young centre-back Luka Vuskovic has added extra quality to the back line for the future.
Despite the fact that Vuskovic is nearing a loan move move to Hamburg, a move that many Spurs fans disagree with, he would still remain higher in the pecking order.
Another potential nail in Dragusin’s coffin is Tottenham signing exciting defender Kota Takai.
The 20-year-old centre-back has joined from Kawasaki Frontale and offers more defensive depth for Spurs
After an uninspiring 18 months, Dragusin has come under fire for certain mistakes, with his most glaring one taking place in Spurs’ Europa League defeat to Galatasaray.
As Spurs look to move from the defensively frail era of Ange Postecoglou, Dragusin will likely be one of the first culprits to make way.
Spurs building towards to the future through focus on youth
Despite the rumoured signing of Akcicek, and Vuskovic’s potential loan to Germany, Spurs still have plans for a lot of their youngsters.
Another young centre-back who is getting experience out on loan is Ashley Phillips, who is at Championship leaders Stoke City.
With yet another promising centre-back in the Spurs ranks, Dragusin shouldn’t feel optimistic about his future at the club.
Below is a list of Spurs players aged 21 or under who have been sent out on loan (prior to completion of Vuskovic deal)”
As Spurs oversee the development of their young talents, the club is also adapting its transfer strategy, seen through the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, the addition of Takai, and the rumoured interest in Akcicek.
