Tottenham are expected to bolster their strike force in the summer transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur’s battle for Premier League survival will now go down to the final day. They will face Everton at home, as Roberto De Zerbi seeks to preserve top-flight status.
Off the pitch, the N1 bosses are doing their job of identifying targets. And among the positions that Spurs are looking to upgrade on, the striker role has been finding itself climbing up on the agenda. This comes in the wake of the current forwards failing to find the back of the net consistently this season.
Dominic Solanke has found the back of the net just three times in the league, thanks largely to his persistent injury problems. Richarlison is the club’s top scorer with 12 goals in all competitions, but history shows he cannot be relied upon to lead the attack and find the back of the net consistently. And then comes Randal Kolo Muani, who has proven to be one of the worst acquisitions in the North London club’s history in recent years.
Without a shadow of doubt, Tottenham need a more reliable goalscorer, and it is no surprise that they are now linked with a former academy star.
Tottenham enter a four-way battle to sign AZ Alkmaar star
According to a report from Soccer News, Tottenham have entered the race in re-signing Parrott, two years on from selling him to AZ Alkmaar for a paltry £6.7m. Everton, Leeds United and AC Milan are already in the mix to land the 24-year-old.
Troy Parrott is ready to take the next step in his career after his breakout season in the Eredivisie. The Republic of Ireland international has been lighting up the Netherlands after scoring 31 goals in 48 appearances for AZ Alkmaar this term. The centre-forward’s hot form in front of goal again illustrates why a host of clubs across Europe are monitoring him.
It has emerged recently that Parrott would be in favour of a sensational return to White Hart Lane this summer, even if the North Londoners go down. The Irishman arrived in London in 2017 and came through the Tottenham youth ranks before making his senior debut at 17 under former boss Jose Mourinho. He eventually made four Spurs first-team appearances in and around a succession of loans to EFL clubs.
It is worth mentioning that the Lilywhites managed to secure a 20% sell-on clause when agreeing the transfer conditions with AZ Alkmaar for Parrott, which means that they can land the Irishman for a discounted price. A move for the former academy starlet could be on the cards for the North London club in the event they manage to cash in on Richarlison, who will enter the final year of his contract this summer.
For now, it wouldn’t be wrong to suggest that Tottenham have a slight edge over the likes of Everton, Leeds United and AC Milan in landing Parrott.
