Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has come under intense criticism in recent weeks, but recent data now paints a very different picture of the Italian’s performances.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Guglielmo Vicario has received a lot of stick in recent weeks from Tottenham fans following a string of goalkeeping howlers.

Vicario failed to deal effectively with a Brenden Aaronson shot last time out against Leeds United, with his parried effort falling right into Noah Okafor’s path, allowing him to slot home the loose ball.

Spurs fans have seen enough and even called for Thomas Frank to drop Vicario ahead of Tottenham’s next league fixture against Aston Villa.

Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario ranks among Premier League’s best

Underlying statistics now show that Vicario ranks amongst the best in the league when it comes to clean sheets, save percentage, and goals prevented.

The Tottenham shot-stopper ranks third in terms of clean sheets this season, with only Nick Pope (5) and David Raya (4) recording more than Vicario’s three.

The Italian is also high up the list for save percentage, with the 27-year-old only behind Raya, who has 83.3%, while Vicario sits second with 82.8%.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Impressively, Vicario is top for goals prevented, as he quite often makes big saves from sure goalscoring chances, with the Italian preventing 2.9 goals through his sharp reflexes and smart positioning.

Thomas Frank shows faith in Vicario

It has since been revealed that Thomas Frank has decided to stick with Guglielmo Vicario despite recent talks about his mistakes.

The Italian was included in Frank’s leadership group, which just shows how highly rated he is within the Tottenham dressing room.

However, consistency is most definitely needed from the shot-stopper, who tends to make costly mistakes in games, but then produces crucial saves at decisive moments that keep his side in matches.
