Tottenham Hotspur could be on red alert as a Premier League star, who the Lilywhites have had their eye on for a while, faces an uncertain future at his club.

Tottenham’s midfield combination has been the subject of much debate this season, with many wondering if the Joao Palhinha-Rodrigo Bentancur pairing leaves the side short of creativity in the middle of the park.

That is a problem Spurs are looking to address in the January window, and it has now emerged that one Wolves star who has been on Tottenham’s radar since last year could be on the market.

Even earlier this year, it was reported that Spurs were considering making an offer for Joao Gomes, but the Brazilian ended up staying put at the Molineux Stadium in the summer.

Tottenham target Joao Gomes may leave Wolves in January

A new report in TEAMtalk has now claimed that Gomes’ future in the Midlands is now in doubt due to Wolves’ struggles in the Premier League this season.

The club are rooted to the bottom of the table, having not won a single league game so far this season, and it is revealed that the midfielder is certain to leave if they get relegated.

In fact, the outlet says that according to some sources, Wolves may even face a fight to hold onto him in January if other top-flight clubs sense an opportunity to swoop for the Brazilian.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The report names Tottenham Hotspur as one of several clubs that hold an interest in the 24-year-old, who has been an extremely consistent performer since his switch to England from Flamengo in 2023.

Spurs face competition from three Premier League clubs for Gomes

TEAMtalk say that apart from Tottenham, Man United have also ‘had a close look’ at Gomes’ situation at Wolves.

It is revealed that Aston Villa and Liverpool are also admirers of the Brazilian international, thus potentially setting the stage for a transfer battle.
