Tottenham to spend their way out of trouble

The thought of Tottenham Hotspur getting relegated is something most of us are finding really difficult to compute. How likely is it?

Recent models from the Opta supercomputer give Spurs only a 12 to20% chance of relegation, with West Ham at 80% or more. Another win or even a couple of draws should be enough. Spurs have picked up points recently and have safety “in their own hands.”

Historically, a big club like Tottenham with quality players would be strong favourites to bounce straight back up if they went down, but nobody wants to experience that chaos, such as the huge financial hit, and loss of players, etc.

That said, football is unpredictable. A collapse, such as maybe heavy losses to Chelsea and Everton while West Ham wins both of their games, could make it happen. Spurs fans have been through a rough season with multiple managerial changes, poor form (especially at home in 2026), and inconsistency.

Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, told Football Insider that he expects ENIC to finally start spending.

“Before the January window this year, we thought Spurs were going to go quite heavy into the January window and back Thomas Frank.

“Now, I think this has really scared the Spurs owners and if they do manage to stay up, they will have no choice but to really get the chequebook out and support De Zerbi, if he’s the manager, which I’m sure he will be, and to really go forward and get the fan base back united.

“I do expect De Zerbi, or whoever the manager is, if he keeps them up, to get serious backing next year and get things moving, because for a club like Spurs this should never be happening.”

Wyness also predicts that players such as Dominic Solanke, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario would all be prime targets to leave, come what may.

Tottenham need a shake-up, both on and off the pitch, so let’s hope this helps.
