Tottenham Hotspur are starting to decide the futures of several members of Roberto De Zerbi's squad amid a major rebuild.
Six new faces have arrived at the club, including Sandro Tonali for £100 million and Mateus Fernandes for £85 million. While the North London giants have splashed the cash to ensure there's no repeat of last season's relegation battle, they are weighing up potential departures.
There were only a few players who could hold their heads up high after the mess that occurred during the 2025-26 campaign. A 17th-placed finish has raised doubts over some high-profile names, including one enjoying somewhat of a breakout World Cup.
Tottenham Hold Talks With Inter Over Spence
Thomas Tuchel's decision to name Djed Spence in his England squad raised eyebrows, not least because he struggled to cement a regular starting berth in Tottenham's team. After a difficult start to the World Cup, he's been one of the Three Lions' standout performers.
That hasn't quashed talk of Spurs selling the 25-year-old and Inter Milan are keen on taking him to the San Siro. A report from La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia) claims that the Serie A giants are set to hold talks with the Premier League club over a potential deal.
The reigning Italian champions are keen to replace Denzel Dumfries following his move to Real Madrid. Spence is on their shortlist after they missed out on Marco Palestra, who joined Chelsea, and Anan Khalaili, whose move fell through after failing a medical.
Spence is said to have held preliminary talks with Inter through his agents and is open to joining the Nerazzurri. Spurs are believed to have previously valued him at around €35 million (£30m), but his World Cup displays could see this increase.
Spurs Should Consider Keeping Spence
It is a tad strange that Spurs are still open to selling Spence given his performances for England during the World Cup. He has grown into one of Tuchel's most important players and put in excellent displays against Argentina and France.
Spence's outing in a thrilling 6-4 win over the French in the third-place play-off was described as "fantastic." He's not quite replicated such showings at club level but he's still relatively young and could head into a new season full of confidence.
De Zerbi's stance stems from Andy Robertson's arrival as a free agent after leaving Liverpool. The Scot will compete with Destiny Udogie for a starting berth at left-back while Pedro Porro remains his starting right-back.
