Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention to Crystal Palace right-back Daniel Muñoz as Roberto De Zerbi looks to strengthen his defensive options following Djed Spence’s departure.
Spence completed a permanent move to Inter Milan this weekend, leaving Pedro Porro as Tottenham’s only recognised senior right-back.
Inter paid around £30 million for the England international, providing Spurs with both the need and extra funds to pursue a replacement. Reuters confirmed that Spence has signed with the Serie A champions until 2031.
Muñoz would bring considerable Premier League experience and a more attacking option down the right.
Tottenham step up interest in Muñoz
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are interested in signing Muñoz as they assess replacements for Spence.
The Colombia international has become one of Crystal Palace’s most dependable performers since arriving from Genk in January 2024.
He can operate as either a traditional right-back or wing-back, making him particularly useful for a manager who values tactical flexibility.
Everton have also shown serious interest, meaning Tottenham could face competition if they decide to turn their admiration into a formal offer.
Muñoz remains contracted to Palace until 2028, so the Eagles are under no immediate pressure to sell.
Spence’s exit has nevertheless increased Tottenham’s urgency. The 26-year-old made 85 appearances during his Spurs career before sealing his Inter switch.
Muñoz looks like an ideal Spence replacement
This would be a very sensible move for Spurs.
Muñoz is already accustomed to Premier League football, which reduces the adaptation risk involved in signing someone from abroad.
His energy and willingness to attack would also provide genuine competition for Porro rather than simply giving De Zerbi an emergency backup.
That competition matters over a long season. Tottenham cannot realistically expect Porro to play every league and cup game, particularly with the demands placed on modern attacking full-backs.
The biggest question is value. Palace know Tottenham have just received significant money for Spence and therefore have little reason to offer Muñoz cheaply.
Spurs should still explore the deal. At 30, Muñoz would not represent a long-term investment, but not every transfer needs to be based on resale value.
Tottenham need someone capable of contributing immediately.
