Last week was one to forget for Tottenham, who exited the EFL Cup at the hands of Newcastle before losing 1-0 at home to London rivals Chelsea, but Thomas Frank's side will be expected to redeem themselves in the Champions League against Copenhagen.

Spurs remain unbeaten in this season's European competition, building on a 1-0 win over Villarreal with draws away at Bodo/Glimt and Monaco, while the Danish visitors remain winless following recent defeats to Qarabag and Borussia Dortmund.

Tottenham vs Copenhagenpreview

Tottenham’s troubles at home continued with a limp 1-0 loss against London rivals Chelsea on Saturday and manager Thomas Frank will be desperate for a response when Danish champions Copenhagen visit north London.

The manner of Saturday's derby defeat will be of most concern to Danish boss Frank, who saw his side take a paltry three shots on goal.

Just one was on target and the Lilywhites' three 'efforts' on goal were worth an expected-goals figure of just 0.05 – their lowest on record in a Premier League game.

Defeat to the Blues capped off a disappointing week for Tottenham, who also exited the EFL Cup with a 2-0 defeat at Newcastle, but a visit from Copenhagen could be just what the doctor ordered.

Being fifth in the Premier League after ten games is hardly disastrous, especially given the sheer number of players unavailable to Frank, and Spurs are unbeaten after three matches in this season's Champions League.

But a lack of rhythm in the final third may mean they have to work hard for their rewards against a Copenhagen side who have never won away to English opposition in European competition previously.

Tuesday's encounter will be Frank’s first against an opponent from his homeland since March 2016, when he was in charge of Brondby, and it should ensure an extra element of focus from his players.

Copenhagen have take only one point from their three games in the league phase and one of their two defeats was away to Azerbaijani minnows Qarabag.

Frank has no choice but to deploy a strong side given his list of absentees and, having beaten Villarreal 1-0 at home and held Monaco to a goalless draw on the road, Spurs can grind out a much-needed victory.

Lerager a leading card candidate

Stopping Tottenham’s midfield from dominating will be the aim of Lukas Lerager and that could come at a cost.

The 32-year-old has made 29 Champions League appearances across the last four seasons and has picked up 11 bookings. A 12th may be forthcoming as he endeavours to break up Spurs' rhythm.

Towering Dutchman carries aerial threat

Set-pieces are all the rage in the Premier League and Tottenham centre-back Micky van de Ven has been a particular benefactor of the trend.

The towering Dutchman has scored three league goals and was also on target in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw at Bodo/Glimt on matchday two. Van de Ven also had two shots in the matchday three draw at Monaco, so Copenhagen will need to keep a close eye on him at dead-ball situations.

Tottenham to win

Spurs have taken five points from their first three Champions League matches and should have a significant class advantage over Copenhagen.

Micky van de Ven to have one or more shots on target

The Spurs centre-back has notched five goals in 14 appearances this season and carries a serious threat at set-pieces.

Lukas Lerager to be shown a card

The Copenhagen midfielder has picked up 11 bookings in 29 Champions League appearances and his disciplined will be tested by Spurs' tricky midfield players.
