Tottenham Hotspur’s Xavi Simons names surprising teammate with an ‘incredible eye for a pass’ in NFL-inspired challenge.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is no stranger to hosting more than just football matches, as it has become a familiar venue for the NFL’s international games.
American football has once again returned to N17, and a few Spurs players have had their fun stepping into a different kind of sporting spotlight, with Xavi Simons among them.
Speaking to Tottenham’s official TikTok page, the Dutchman took part in a light-hearted segment where he was asked to assemble an NFL team made up entirely of his Tottenham teammates.
Xavi Simons praises Rodrigo Bentancur’s vision at Tottenham
During the feature, Simons was tasked with creating an NFL team built from his Spurs colleagues, assigning each player to a role based on their footballing attributes.
Naturally, when it came to the quarterback position – arguably the most vital role on the field – he had a standout candidate in mind.
Simons opted for Rodrigo Bentancur, explaining that the Uruguayan’s remarkable ability to pick out passes makes him the perfect fit for such a demanding position.

Before naming his choice, he hinted that it would be someone with an elite understanding of playmaking and space.
“My quarterback would be Rodrigo Bentancur, because he has really good vision, and yeah, he would be my quarterback,” Simons said, speaking to Tottenham’s official TikTok page.
Spurs need more creativity under Thomas Frank
Rodrigo Bentancur has long been regarded as one of Tottenham’s most underrated midfielders, as he is capable of dictating tempo and unlocking tight defences with his crisp passing.
However, just as the quarterback role is pivotal in American football, having a creative hub in midfield in a “soccer” team is crucial for any side with ambitions of controlling matches.
Tottenham have, at times, struggled to carve open chances from open play, and that is where players like Bentancur and Simons themselves must continue to step up.
