But their last two cup defeats will no doubt leave them with great frustration – evidenced by Odegaard’s comments on the club being “desperate” for trophies. Knocked out of the FA Cup in the 3rd Round, and 2-0 down in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg, Arteta’s men have a big point to prove when they face Spurs this evening.

Arsenal threw everything they had against a Manchester United side which only had 10 men for nearly an hour. Radu Dragusin did struggle however, winning just two duels and completing just 79% of his passes. Djed Spence made his second successive start with Destiny Udogie missing the game. Pedro Porro returned to the starting lineup at right-back.

Yves Bissouma returned from suspension to partner Pape Matar Sarr in midfield. The pair kept Manchester United quiet in the first half but allowed too many long-range efforts at goal from the visitors after the break. James Maddison completed the midfield three but couldn’t continue his goalscoring form from the Southampton game.

Tottenham were on fire in attack with all three forwards getting on the scoresheet. Dejan Kulusevski was lively throughout, completing four dribbles and doubling the home side’s lead in the 46th minute. Dominic Solanke’s two goals were his first since a 4-3 loss to Chelsea. Heung-min Son wrapped up the win for Spurs late on with a goal directly from a corner.

Tottenham’s Recent Form and Tactics

Tottenham have responded to a run of five games without a win with back-to-back victories. Their attack has been in scintillating form, scoring 14 goals in their last four games. This has compensated for an injury-hit defence that has conceded eight goals in that period. Ange Postecoglou’s side are the epitome of the phrase ‘attack is the best form of defence’.

Spurs have operated with a bench made up of mostly academy players over the past few weeks. Youngsters recruited from elsewhere, Gray and Lucas Bergvall have played big roles. Also, Spence has finally been given a chance after spending the last few seasons out on loan. The creativity Postecoglou has shown in dealing with the injury crisis has kept Spurs within reach of the European places and still in the trophy hunt.

Tottenham Injuries and Suspensions to Consider

Youngster Mikey Moore has returned to training but it will still be a few weeks until he returns to match fitness following an illness. Udogie missed the Manchester United game with general soreness but will hope to return against Liverpool. Timo Werner has missed training this week with an illness but is expected to recover in time to play some part.

Regular absentees Vicario (ankle), Richarlison (thigh), Ben Davies (thigh), Rodrigo Bentancur (suspended), Wilson Odobert (thigh), Cristian Romero (thigh), and Micky van de Ven (thigh) all remain out as Tottenham welcome the league leaders to London.
