Xavi Simons, Dominic Solanke injury update: Latest news as Spurs lose key duo at Wolves - NBC Sports
Description

Relegation-haunted Tottenham Hotspur lost Dominic Solanke to injury in the first half and then Xavi Simons was taken off on a stretcher in the second half, as their woeful luck with injuries to key players continues.

MORE — Wolves v Spurs

Roberto De Zerbi looked on in disbelief as Solanke pulled up with what looked like a hamstring injury in the first half, as Richarlison came on in his place.

Then it got worse for Spurs as key playmaker Xavi Simons, their bright spark last week with a goal and assist against Brighton, stretched for the ball in the second half and looked to have hyperextended his knee.

Simons got up after initial treatment and tried to run it off but he appeared to make it worse and then went down and was carried on a stretcher out of the stadium.

This is not only bad news for Spurs in their scrap against relegation but Solanke is a good bet to make the England squad for the World Cup as Harry Kane’s back-up, while Simons is set to be a key player for the Netherlands this summer.

We will provide the latest injury update from Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi after the game at Wolves.

Wolves 0-1 Tottenham Hotspur: Palhinha’s late goal boosts Spurs’ survival hopes - NBC Sports
Description

Tottenham Hotspur beat already-relegated Wolves 1-0 on Saturday at Molineux as Joao Palhinha’s late winner boosts their hopes of staying in the Premier League.

WATCH — Full match replay

In a nervous game which lacked big chances for either side, Spurs lost both Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons to injury.

But substitute Richarlison hooked a shot toward goal late on and fellow sub Palhinha was on hand to prod home and send the Spurs fans wild in the away end.

The win was Spurs’ first league victory of 2026 and their first under Roberto De Zerbi as he’s now picked up four points from his first three games in charge. But Spurs are on 34 points and after West Ham won late on against Everton on Saturday, Spurs are still in the relegation zone with four games to go. Wolves remain bottom on 17 points.

Spurs show they are up for the fight

After losing Solanke and Simons to injury, Spurs could have felt sorry for themselves. They weren’t great at Wolves by any stretch of the imagination but they did what they had to do to give themselves a chance of staying up heading into the final few games. Roberto De Zerbi will be delighted with the spirit his side showed and they limited Wolves to very few chances. That is promising because even though injuries are ravaging them, Spurs clearly have enough quality in attack to hurt teams when they get a chance. They just have to keep as many clean sheets as they can in their final four games of the season and rely on their star players delivering big moments in tight games. It’s going to be nervy but Spurs staying within two points of West Ham was absolutely imperative. De Zerbi’s demeanor and demands already appears to be rubbing off on his players. We know Spurs have enough quality to stay up but their fight has been questioned. Saturday’s win at Wolves proved they’re up for the scrap in a big way.

What’s next?

Wolves host Sunderland next Saturday, while Spurs head to Aston Villa next Sunday.

Wolves vs Tottenham Hotspur live updates! — By Joe Prince-Wright

Kinsky denies Joao Gomes!

Big save late on from Kinsky as Joao Gomes whips a lovely free kick on goal.

Wilson scores a late goal for West Ham...

Not such great news for Spurs as Callum Wilson has popped up with a late, late goal for West Ham. That means Spurs will stay in the relegation zone for now.

Great news continues for Spurs...

Everton have grabbed a late equalizer at West Ham, which has huge implications for Spurs in their relegation scrap. How big will this few minutes be in the context of Spurs’ season, and their future?

Spurs have scored late on as Palhinha prods home!

A corner is whipped in by Pedro Porro and Richarlison swivels and gets an effort towards goal. Palhinha prods home at the back post. Spurs fans go bonkers in the away end. A VAR check confirms Palhinha is onside and the goal stands.

Richarlison looked certain to head home!

A cross from the right looked certain to be nodded home by Richarlison but Doherty just got a flick on it before he was going to finish. That was a big chance for Spurs and promising for them in this final 10 minutes plus stoppage time.

Bentancur’s header denied by Sa!

A corner is whipped in and Rodrigo Bentancur’s powerful header is pushed away well by Jose Sa. Big chance for Spurs.

Armstrong almost gets in for Wolves

A ball over the top causes some confusion as Adam Armstrong is almost in but Kinsky gets out just in time to make the block.

Simons is down with a knee injury... and he is replaced by Bergvall

Oh no, Xavi Simons goes down stretching for the ball and it looks like a knee injury. Simons is up and is trying to come back on but he can’t carry on. Lucas Bergvall is on in his place.

Xavi Simons curls a great chance over

The Dutch playmaker cuts inside really well but under pressure from Doherty he curls his shot over. That is a big chance.

Bad news for Spurs as West Ham lead...

Not the score update fans of Spurs wanted to hear, as West Ham have taken the lead against Everton. As it stands, Spurs are four points safety with four games to go.

Tel on for Kolo Muani

Mathys Tel is on for Randal Kolo Muani at half time and his task is simple: score a goal. Neither team had a shot on target in that first half, by the way...

Half time thoughts — Nervy Spurs yet to get going

Roberto De Zerbi doesn’t look happy on the sidelines as it looks like the magnitude of the situation is getting to Spurs. They had a couple of chances early but weren’t able to build on it and have lost Solanke to injury. It feels like one goal is going to decide this game and Spurs have to throw caution to the wind in the second half. Their Premier League future decides on this 45 minutes...

Andre lunges in on Bissouma but is only booked

Yves Bissouma slips and Andre slides in and catches the Spurs midfielder. Andre is booked but Spurs want more. VAR checks the challenge, which is late and there is contact on Bissouma’s right foot. Andre is pretty lucky there that Bissouma slips. If not they would have been a red card.

Solanke is off injured for Spurs and Richarlison is on

Dominic Solanke pulls up under no contact and he can’t continue. Richarlison is on. De Zerbi can’t believe his luck as Spurs lose yet another key player to injury.

Wolves building some pressure

A corner comes in and a volley is hammered in by Rodrigo Gomes but Solanke blocks well. Wolves then win another corner and Spurs are under a bit of pressure.

Kolo Muani smashes wide!

Really good chance for Spurs as Wolves give the ball away and Randal Kolo Muani surges towards goal but he drills his low effort wide. Spurs are working hard and pushing high up the pitch.

Spurs almost score from a set piece!

A free kick is whipped in to the back post and it’s nodded back across goal and Solanke almost gets on the end of it and is saying he was pushed. No foul is given but that is promising from Spurs.

Wolves vs Tottenham Hotspur preview

Spurs (18th - 31 points) looked set to earn their first PL victory of 2026 last weekend, until Brighton scored in stoppage time and Roberto de Zerbi’s side had to settle for a deflating singular point. After West Ham (17th - 33 points) drew Crystal Palace on Monday, Spurs were no closer to safety even if the performance, effort level and encouragement from the fans looked and sounded markedly different than at any other point this season. De Zerbi said after the game that he believes Spurs can win all five of their remaining games, and last-place Wolves is perhaps the perfect place to start.

West Ham’s point was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Rob Edwards’ side, as they sit 16 points adrift with only five games left to play. They weren’t going down without a fight (nine of their 17 points were won in a six-game span in February and March, but back to back defeats of 4-0 and 3-0 (to fellow relegation fighters West Ham and Leeds) may have dented confidence the last two times out.

Wolves vs Tottenham Hotspur prediction

If not now, then never. Wolves 1-3 Spurs.

Roberto De Zerbi reaction to Xavi Simons golazo, Tottenham Hotspur’s late heartbreak - NBC Sports
Description

Tottenham Hotspur boss Roberto De Zerbi was buzzing after Xavi Simons’ Goal of the Season candidate looked to have moved Spurs out of the bottom three only for Brighton & Hove Albion to equalize for a draw in North London.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw Spurs go ahead through Pedro Porro’s header of a Simons chipped cross but sunk level by a gorgeous Kaoru Mitoma volley before halftime.

MORE — Spurs v Brighton recap, video highlights

Fortunately, Simons chugged onward in a Man of the Match performance punctuated by his sensational cross-goal finish in the 77th minute.

But it wasn’t done, as Georginio Rutter scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time to ensure a point for Brighton.

It nearly pulled Spurs out of the relegation zone and De Zerbi’s words will be worth watching after the whistle.

Roberto De Zerbi reaction to Xavi Simons golazo, Tottenham Hotspur’s late heartbreak

Thoughts on the game? “I’m sorry for the result for the players because they are suffering so much and we deserved to win the game against one great Brighton — a big congratulations to their style and level of players but especially in that moment of the game we cannot concede that goal to Georginio Rutter.”

“I’m positive and I am proud of my players. They played a fantastic game with character and spirit and what I asked of them to play in this stadium for this club. We have to be stronger than this result, move on to the next game versus Wolverhampton Wanderers and try to win the game. If we are strong like today, we can compete again.”

What did you tell them in the team room? “I said to be strong, to follow because I want to help them. I want that they can change the mentality because the mentality in this moment is the most important part. It’s too easy to think negative. We need to be focused on the performance, to work and to find the condition to win the game. I am positive because I am coach of Tottenham Hotspur and I know my players, my people, and I believe in them.”

What did you think of the stadium and crowd? “I know we are fighting to stay in the Premier League, a very difficult moment but we are lucky — everyone of us — to work in this club with these fans. It was incredible atmosphere today. You could think we were fighting to qualify for the Champions League, not relegation, because of the fans. We will give our best. If we are, it’s not finished yet.”

What did you see from your team today? “Today I watched signs, blood, qualities, organization with and without the ball. I watched the qualities of my players and the right spirit. I watched everything we need to reach our target and to fight until the end of the season.”

Description

Roberto De Zerbi remained stoic with his reaction as Tottenham Hotspur lost 1-0 at Sunderland in his first game in charge.

MORE — Video highlights, recap, analysis as Spurs lose at Sunderland

That means Spurs are in the relegation zone and two points from safety with six games to go, as their destiny is no longer in their own hands.

Here is the latest Roberto De Zerbi reaction from the Stadium of Light.

Roberto De Zerbi reaction

On a cruel way to lose the game, with a deflection: “I think we played a good game. Not enough to win. We didn’t deserve to lose the game but we have to accept,” De Zerbi told Sky Sports. “We have to move on and to prepare the next game. Normally it is not the right Tottenham, no, because we played a good game but we are suffering in this moment. But we have to be stronger because we have the quality enough to come out from this difficult moment. I am sorry for the result, I am sorry for the Romero injury. I hope for us and for him as well it is not something important.”

On playing well but not doing enough to win, where did Spurs fall short: “I think we had three, four clear chances to score. In this moment everything is tougher. We have to work in the style of play because we can be better to play free between the lines. We made two, three mistakes in the last 15 meters and we have to move on and to think on the next game.”

On if there is a lack of confidence or fear factor: “For sure but we have to be stronger than this moment. I spoke with the players five minutes ago and I said the same. I can understand everything. I can understand it has been a very tough season. We are going through a tough moment for everyone. But anyway we have to react. We have to react with enthusiasm, with the right spirit. Because they showed the right spirit today and I can’t say anything. But anyway to put something more in terms of enthusiasm, positive way to work, to play, to enjoy with the ball, because the quality of the players are amazing.”

On the pressure of now being in the relegation zone and how it will impact players: “What do we have to do? We can just work, just transfer what I think because I am honest and an honest man and I am telling you what I think and my opinion. We have big players. Now they are in the bad moment with results and part of the season but we have to work on one win. Because with one win we can change everything in this season.”

On if he has enough time to address the problems at Spurs: “I have 24 hours per day. It is not a problem with the time. I would like to find the right way to reach the head of my players because I am honest. When I say we create two or three chances in the first half with Udogie, Richarlison, with Solanke, we did the same what we have done in the week. For that I can say the quality of the players are great but are not enough. Now we have to believe more in ourselves, more in our teammates and the crucial part is to win a game. One game. One game. One game.”

On the style of play, and if there will be deeper changes: “In terms of style of play we can play much better than today. But after five, six trainings it is difficult. It is not a problem the style of play. The problem is the mental part. Altogether we have to stay focused to win one game.”

On how he can help Spurs’ players who struggled with unfortunate and unlucky moments against Sunderland: “I can be a big brother, a father, they don’t need a coach,” De Zerbi told the BBC. “They don’t need to improve football. They don’t need to play better. Okay, they can play better and they will play better when we reach a different level of confidence with ourselves and these things are crucial for us in this moment.”

Cristian Romero injury news: Latest update as Spurs captain leaves Sunderland game in tears - NBC Sports
Description

Tottenham Hotspur went 1-0 down at Sunderland in the second half of a must-win game and moments later they lost their captain Cristian Romero to injury.

When it rains, it pours.

MORE — Sunderland vs Spurs

Romero was pushed by Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey as he shielded the ball back to back-up goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. That led to Romero colliding with Kinsky and he stayed down and received lengthy treatment.

Kinsky suffered a head injury and had a cut cleaned up and bandaged after the collision with Romero, but the Spurs captain and Argentina center back couldn’t carry on. Kevin Danso replaced Romero and as Romero walked off the pitch he was in tears.

Latest Cristian Romero injury news, update

The latest injury update on Cristian Romero arrived from Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi from the Stadium of Light.

“I am sorry for the result, I am sorry for the Romero injury. I hope for us and for him as well it is not something important,” Roberto De Zerbi told Sky Sports after the game.

Losing Romero for any length of time would be a huge blow for Spurs in their quest to stay in the Premier League, as they sit in the relegation zone with six games to go and just over a month of the campaign remaining.

Romero also has the World Cup coming up with Argentina this summer, so they will be sweating on his fitness.

Igor Tudor reaction — What did Spurs boss say after losing must-win relegation showdown vs Forest? - NBC Sports
Description

After losing Sunday’s must-win showdown with Nottingham Forest 3-0 at home, Tottenham Hotspur, astoundingly, have seven games left to save themselves from relegation out of the Premier League.

SPURS 0-3 FOREST — Video highlights & recap

Below is the latest Igor Tudor reaction, speaking after Spurs extended their winless run to 13 games in the PL (zero league wins in 2026). The fans organized and showed up in thousands to welcome the team bus to the stadium ahead of kickoff and the atmosphere inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was more than a little lively for much of the first half, until Forest scored right before a break and the never-ending cycle of “here we go again” kicked off once again.

Igor Tudor reaction — What did Spurs boss say after losing must-win relegation showdown vs Forest?

NOTE: Spurs assistant coach Bruno Saltor gave the post-game interview rather than Igor Tudor.

Why are we hearing from you, and not Igor Tudor? “Personal matters. Family matters. I’m stepping in because it’s not the right moment for him to speak.”

On the result: “Of course it hurts a lot. I think in the first half we were the better team, and any mistake right now is going against us, every detail is going against us, and it affects a lot of the players. We need to be consistent with our performances, not just for 45 minutes. It’s how we react to any mistake, or any situation that goes against us. Right now in the situation that we are in, it’s important.”

On the players’ reaction after conceding the first goal: “You can see how much they care, you can see how much they are fighting. Again, we are in a difficult situation, everyone knows. The players are preparing for it. Today, like I said, first half I thought we were the better team. We need to be consistent with that.”

Why were Micky van de Ven and Djec Spence subbed off at halftime? “We were 1-0 down and we wanted to be a little more aggressive with players that are coming back from injuries [Destiny Udogie and Lucas Bergvall] and try to bring more energy into the pitch. It didn’t work as planned, but that was our intention. … They are coming back from long injuries and it’s going to take some time [for them], but obviously we don’t have that time. But at the same time, I think it’s important that they get those minutes and influence into the team. I think Lucas was a positive influence for us. They are really important players for us and we need to keep those dynamics.”

“I think the fans were outstanding today, from before the game to the end of the game. We need to carry on, because we care. We care about Spurs, we care about the club, we are family and we want to get out of this situation. It’s 21 points [remaining to play for]. I think the performances against Liverpool and Atletico Madrid give us positives, and as I said, today we had 45 minutes that were really good. … At the end, of course, the game is open and for them it’s a better game because their game is transitions.”

Tottenham Hotspur 0-3 Nottingham Forest: Tricky Trees triumph as Spurs wilt again - NBC Sports
Description

Misery knows no bounds at Tottenham Hotspur, with a new chapter added to the miserable nightmare that is their 2025-26 Premier League season on Sunday: a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in what was meant to be the club’s rallying point to stave off relegation.

WATCH — Tottenham Hotspur v Nottingham Forest full match replay

Thousands of Spurs fans organized themselves to greet the team bus on arrival in a show of full-throated support, putting aside weeks months years of the downward spiral that led to this pivotal moment, and for almost 45 minutes, there were even a few encouraging signs on the field. Then, Forest forward Igor Jesus planted a perfect header into the side netting from a corner kick in the 45th minute and that was, effectively, the end of all hope. Heads dropped

Morgan Gibbs-White, who famously almost joined Spurs in the summer before doing a sharp about-face in the 11th hour, added Forest’s second goal in the 62nd minute. This, after Eberechi Eze, who also came within hours of signing for Spurs last summer, instead scored five goals in two games against them for rivals Arsenal. Eze has scored six goals in the PL all season. Just one of a many microcosm to sum up Spurs’ season.

Taiwo Awoniyi finished the scoring in the 87th minute when he slid in at the back post and turned home Neco Williams’ cross.

Spurs (30 points) are without a win in their last 13 PL games and haven’t won a single game in the league in 2026. They are now just one point and one place above the relegation zone. Nottingham Forest (32 points) were fantastic on the day, given they found themselves in the exact same situation as Spurs and had one less day to prepare after playing in Denmark on Thursday. The Tricky Trees aren’t yet safe, but a first PL win under Vitor Pereira has done much to steady the ship ahead of this weekend’s international break.

Spurs return to the pitch after a midweek Champions League scrap with Atletico Madrid that ended their European dreams, while Forest needed penalties to advance past Midtjylland in the Europa League. Both teams drew their last Premier League match — as did the other five teams in the bottom seven of the table — and Spurs are just one point clear of 18th-place West Ham while Forest are only out of the bottom three on goal differential.

So, yes, this is a huge. A winner will find some rare comfort on the table for the international break while a loser could find themselves in a relegation place for a couple of weeks depending on West Ham’s visit to Aston Villa kicking off at the same time.
