Tottenham Hotspur will try to extend Thomas Frank’s fantastic start to life in north London when they host a winless Wolves side still seeking their first point of the Premier League season on Saturday (3 pm ET).

WATCH — Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolves

Spurs (3rd place, 10 points) fought back from 2-0 down to draw Brighton 2-2 at home last weekend, followed by a comfortable 3-0 victory over League One side Doncaster Rovers in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday. With Wolves, Leeds, Aston Villa and Everton up next on the fixture list, Frank will be hoping not only for four wins from four games before the international break but some serious progression toward developing a dominant style of play. Spurs will need every bit of it before they face Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle in four of five games after that.

Vitor Pereira’s job isn’t likely to be under threat anytime soon after he signed a new three-year contract just last week. That said, any sort of positive result will do at this point for Wolves (20th, 0 points). They took their first lead of the season last weekend when Ladislav Krejci scored his first goal (8th minute) since signing for the club this summer, but were 3-1 down at halftime as Leeds scored on exactly half of the shots they attempted in the game. Pereira made a triple change at halftime, to little avail.

Tottenham Hotspur conceded twice as many goals to Brighton on Saturday as they had in four games to begin the 2025-26 Premier League season, but Thomas Frank’s men fought back for a 2-2 draw and a satisfying point considering the circumstances.

BRIGHTON 2-2 SPURS — Video highlights & recap

Below is the latest Thomas Frank reaction, speaking after Spurs’ comeback down on the south coast.

Thomas Frank reaction — What did Spurs boss say after coming back to draw Brighton?

“I thought we looked extremely strong. I’m very happy with the overall performance. I think, actually, it was potentially our best performance of the season — the full picture. We dominated, in my opinion, more or less throughout the game. We created enough chances, but we probably lacked to create a three or four big chances. For me, if there should have been a winner it should have clearly been us.

“What I loved from the players was the mentality. This group of players were here last year, from 2-0 up to losing 3-2, now we are 2-0 down and we get 2-2, and I thought we were closer to getting the three points. The mentality was fantastic. The physicality from the players while playing midweek [in UEFA Champions League] and then go again, just shows that they are fit and they’re strong. When you’re 2-0 down away from home against a good team, it’s a fine point.”

Brighton and Hove Albion hopes to take advantage of a full week’s preparation for Champions League-busy Tottenham Hotspur when the two sides meet at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.

Fabian Hurzeler’s Seagulls are 1-1-2 through four matches, and the young Brighton boss is hoping to get the better of Thomas Frank for the first time. Frank’s Brentford beat and drew Brighton last season, though Hurzeler did the double over Spurs.

WATCH — Brighton vs Tottenham Hotspur

Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur tenure has started in wonderful fashion. Spurs hung with PSG in the UEFA Super Cup Final before losing in penalties, and they’ve since won four of five matches, all clean sheets.

Spurs have allowed just a single goal in a 1-0 loss to Bournemouth, and beaten Burnley, Man City, West Ham, and now Champions League opponent Villarreal. The UCL game was Tuesday in North London, so Spurs have had time to rebound ahead of this trip to Brighton.

Tottenham Hotspur bounced back in a big way on Saturday, as Thomas Frank’s side hammered West Ham at the London Stadium to rebound from their feeble defeat to Bournemouth prior to the international break.

WEST HAM 3-0 SPURS — Video highlights & recap

Below is the latest Thomas Frank reaction, speaking after Spurs’ derby domination in east London.

What did Thomas Frank say after Spurs hammered West Ham?

“I think overall it was a good performance. I think in the first half we didn’t really give anything [to them]. On the flip side, I felt we were close. We had some good shots and crosses in the box and we dominated, we kept them backed in. And then we scored the goal second half, we came out well. Sometimes the game can change, the momentum can change just after halftime, but we just kept going.”

“Of course the red card helps, but I felt we were dominant anyway.”

“I think [the red card] was the right decision. [Tomas] Soucek is a very honest player, a player I respect a lot, so I don’t think that was the intention, but it was a red card.”

On Xavi Simons making his debut: “I thought he was good. I thought he was really good. It was really positive and promising, there’s more to come. Excellent ball for the goal, I think he took initiative on the ball, he created something when he was on the ball. So I was happy with that.”

On the second goal: “It was a fantastic pass from [Cristian] Romero — he’s got that in his locker — actually, we trained on it a little bit yesterday, that run from Lucas [Bergvall] and that ball. So it was perfect — perfect from Romero and perfect from Lucas.”

On rotating the team after internationals and before Champions League: “It’s a fine balance — we want to perform and win every game, we can’t look too far ahead, we need to stay focused on the first one, but need to have a little think of [upcoming fixtures].

Xavi Simons, on making his Spurs debut and assisting a goal

“Really happy with the win first of all, and to make my debut in the Premier League is such a special moment for me. … Always has been a dream of mine to play here on the biggest stage, the best [league] of all. Now I’m here with a magnificent team and I’m really enjoying the first days here.”

“We know that set pieces are just as important as [the rest of] the game. In the second half, we talked about it — with Pape [Matar Sarr] — and I found him [for the goal].”

“Obviously I played my whole life in the no. 10 position, but the last couple of years I’ve developed on the left side. I’m a player that wants to go for the 1-on-1, take on my defender, try to help the team scoring goals and making assists.”

Transfer deadline day: What do Manchester United, Chelsea, Spurs still need?

Transfer deadline day: What do Manchester United, Chelsea, Spurs still need? - NBC Sports
Description

The summer transfer window is set to close on Premier League clubs at 2 pm ET on Monday, and it’s quite clear that a few teams still need to make another signing or two to address weaknesses in their squads.

RECAPS — Chelsea 2-0 Fulham | Man United 3-2 Burnley | Spurs 0-1 Bournemouth

Three of those sides were in action on Saturday, as Chelsea and Manchester United picked up victories and Tottenham Hotspur looked more like the Spurs of last season rather than Thomas Frank’s world-beaters from a week ago.

Manchester United transfer needs

Disclaimer: At this point, anyone that’s available and obtainable probably isn’t good enough to step right in and immediately restore Man United to one of the best sides in Europe. That tends to be how it works: The best players get to pick their new club first, and then it’s a domino effect for everyone else to get theirs, meaning nearly all of the best players that were available this summer have already been signed or made a final decision to remain at their current club. It works the same way for clubs by the way, which might just explain why United are left to overpay for whoever’s left at the very end of every window. We know United are still going to throw a bunch more money at the problem, so let’s speculate…

Defensive midfielder — If Bruno Fernandes is going to play deeper in midfield, Ruben Amorim needs another midfielder who can pass the ball in order to push Fernandes into the attack. Otherwise, United’s best player is going to spend all season dropping 80 yards from goal to receive the ball.

Goalkeeper — Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir aren’t The Guy, but sadly it seems Gianluigi Donnarumma has (smartly) decided on Man City instead of United.

Chelsea transfer needs

What do you get for the club that has already already bought itself everything it could ever need (and more)? Chelsea are unbeaten and went top of the Premier League table (for the time being) with their (rather fortuitous) victory over Fulham on Saturday, but they probably still need to add one more player to the squad.

Left-side center back — Anytime a left-footed, ball-playing center back goes down with a long-term injury, it’s going to be a big blow. Levi Colwill tore his ACL right before the season started and Chelsea have desperately missed his on-ball ability in their first three games this season. Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah are highly capable PL defenders, but they aren’t going to play aggressive balls forward to spring a midfielder and a transition opportunity out of nothing, and Chelsea have to be able to do that otherwise they will struggle to create chances aside from counter-attacks and set pieces.

Striker…? — So, within the span of about 6 hours on Saturday, Chelsea sanctioned Nicolas Jackson’s departure to Bayern Munich (a record-breaking loan, no less) and Liam Delap picked up an injury that is going to keep him out 6-8 weeks, so Chelsea canceled Jackson’s loan despite the fact he was already on the ground in Germany. They clearly don’t want him to be at the club this season, but now they need him to be, unless they were able to make — gasp — another signing.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer needs

It’s been a transfer window of roundabouts and whoopsie-doos for Tottenham Hotspur, but they’ve pretty much ended up with everything they would have wanted at the start of the summer. If not for James Maddison tearing his ACL in preseason, Spurs would likely be done with their transfer business after officially unveiling Xavi Simons on Saturday. So, this one’s pretty simple…

Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Bournemouth: Cherries cruise past sorry Spurs

Description

The magical start to Thomas Frank’s tenure came crashing down rather quickly on Saturday, as Tottenham Hotspur were incredibly lucky to lose 1-0 to Bournemouth at home.

WATCH — Tottenham Hotspur vs Bournemouth full match replay

Evanilson put the visitors ahead in the 5th minute, and the Cherries continued to create chance after chance while Spurs didn’t have their first shot of the game until the 55th minute (only 5 total, 1 on target, 0.17 xG). It was the kind of performance that became a depressing norm last season under Ange Postecoglou.

MORE — Thomas Frank reaction

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made 5 saves (a couple of them fantastic) to keep the scoreline at 1-0 throughout, but Spurs couldn’t do anything with all the possession they had (62 percent) until the final 15 minutes. Even then, it amounted to 3 shots for 0.10 xG. Spurs head into the international break with some soul searching to do, once again.

Abomination, or abberation?

Wow, that was bad from Spurs. Not just bad, not Ange bad, not Mourinho or Conte or Stellini or even Nuno bad. From the high of last week’s comprehensive victory over Manchester City, to this kind of face-plant against Bournemouth, is a shocking turn of events — even for this club. It’s clear that Spurs still need a midfielder who can move the ball forward and find a teammate in the final third, because it was far too easy for Bournemouth to usher Spurs out to the wings, at which point Bournemouth’s defenders dropped deeper to deny the immediate ball in behind, at which point Pedro Porro, Djed Spence, Mohammed Kudus and Brennan Johnson had few options and even fewer ideas.

The former Brentford boss beat Burnley 3-0 on opening day, as expected, before really turning heads with a 2-0 victory away to Premier League title contenders Manchester City last weekend. Frank has been in charge for three games at Spurs (2nd place, 6 points), including the UEFA Super Cup defeat to PSG, and prepared the team with a very different game plan for each game — all three resulting in strong, balanced performances from a side that lost 22 times (twice as many as they won), conceded 65 goals in 38 games and finished 17th last season. New midfielder Xavi Simons, who Spurs just signed from RB Leipzig for $69 million, won’t be available to make his debut but the 22-year-old is expected to be in attendance and unveiled to the home crowd before kickoff.

As for Bournemouth (9th, 3 points), Andoni Iraola’s new backline has its first clean sheet as a unit after they beat Wolves 1-0 last weekend — a stark improvement on the four goals they conceded to Liverpool in the opener. Dean Huijsen, Illia Zabarnyi and Milos Kerkez left for Real Madrid, PSG and Liverpool, respectively, for a combined $195 million this summer. Another player who was linked with numerous moves away this summer is Antoine Semenyo, but he remained at the club and has 2 goals, 1 assist after scoring twice against Liverpool and assisting Marcus Tavernier’s winner agains Wolves.

Thomas Frank reaction: What did Spurs boss say after awful showing vs Bournemouth?

Description

Welcome to Tottenham Hotspur, Thomas Frank.

The first real stinker of the Frank era is officially in the books as Spurs were beaten by Bournemouth on Saturday, in a performance that looked terribly reminiscent of last season’s Premier League form.

SPURS 0-1 BOURNEMOUTH — Video highlights & recap

Evanilson scored after five minutes and Spurs didn’t have their first shot of the game until the 55th minute (first shot on target in the 68th). Bournemouth did just about whatever they wanted and out-shot Spurs 19-4. Frank would have been fuming at halftime, but whatever he said at halftime made very little different in the final 45 minutes

Below is the latest Thomas Frank reaction, speaking after Tottenham Hotspur hardly even turned up to play Bournemouth.

Thomas Frank reaction: What did Spurs boss say after loss to Bournemouth?

“I agree it was not a top performance. I think we played against a very good Bournemouth team that did very well in what they’re good at — played to their strength and we didn’t handle it well enough. Bournemouth deserved to win, of course we can’t be satisfied with that. We need to look into what we can improve.”

On Antonio Semenyo not being shown a second yellow: “I probably would have been disappointed if I got that second yellow on one of my players, if I’m honest.”

“I think we showed three great performances [to start the season] and the players showed a lot of heart and effort — can’t blame them for that — but today the level of football, the touch, the pass wasn’t there unfortunately.”

On Xavi Simons signing for Spurs: “Very excited about it. That will definitely be a positive, no doubt about that and look forward to him joining the team.”

“Definitely not what I expected, I hoped for more. I think we played a good Bournemouth team that played exactly as I expected and we planned for, and we didn’t handle well enough. … I didn’t think we handled the balls in behind, or the second-ball game, very well. We struggled to create today for whatever reason, except for the last 15 minutes.”

Pep Guardiola reaction after Manchester City lose at home to Spurs

Pep Guardiola reaction after Manchester City lose at home to Spurs - NBC Sports
Description

Pep Guardiola was not a happy man as he watched his Manchester City side gift-wrap a win for Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

After starting well, City were undone on the counter and overplayed at the back. A familiar story in recent times.

Here is the latest Pep Guardiola reaction as Spurs, and Thomas Frank, once again got the better of him.

Pep Guardiola reaction

Overall thoughts on the game: “I had a feeling it was a little bit better than the result,” Guardiola told TNT Sports in the UK. “We start well. We concede a goal that could happen. The simple things, we miss the simple things with the ball. We lost with the quality we have, individually the simple things with the ball we miss it. That is why in transitions and of course they score the second at the end of the first half it was difficult. We need one goal and we had chances and the penalty is not given on Oscar [Bobb] and after the chance for Erling [Haaland] and Rayan [Cherki]. We had chances but we didn’t react well with the marking and the pressing. We knew it. Because Thomas [Frank] does it and it happens. We have to attract and play in different way to the way we play. The final third is really good. We control the transitions. The result is not good. It is a long, long way and we will learn from that.”

On lack of control after Spurs took the lead: “It happens sometimes against Spurs. They punish us always in that position in one action. But even with that, before the goal and after the goal, we slept and many times the simple things, passes we didn’t break. We didn’t make our build up because they were so narrow. We put the ball more outside and from there try to make the action. Many teams play high pressing and we have to read for that.”

On transfers: “We will see. We have one week with the club. We talk with the players, agents. We will see.”

On if his team made it hard for themselves: “When we talk about the second goal, obviously. We talk about that against high-pressing you have to attack differently in our build up. After we dropped we were quite good. I know the physicality they have. We were close in the transition. But we lose the simple things, a lot of ball we lost,” Guardiola told the BBC.

Pep Guardiola looks to keep the good times rolling at Manchester City and pour some cold water on Thomas Frank’s early Tottenham Hotspur career when two Big Six sides meet at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Man City walloped Wolves at the Molineux in Week 1 as Erling Haaland scored a pair of goals and Tijjani Reijnders looked a natural fit for Pep Guardiola’s system.

WATCH – Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs also had a great season-opening result, as Thomas Frank’s men clobbered Burnley 3-0 in North London.

Frank won at the Etihad Stadium with Brentford in 2022, but his record versus Guardiola isn’t spectacular aside from that. Frank’s teams are 2W-1D-5L versus City dating back to December 29, 2021, though they’ve never lost by more than two goals — a decent achievement against the City dynasty.
