Just as Ange Postecoglou welcomed five players back into his Tottenham matchday squad, three new injury worries have emerged after the 1-0 win against Manchester United. James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario both returned to the starting XI and made an impact while Wilson Odobert and Brennan Johnson both came off the bench.

Destiny Udogie meanwhile, remained an unused substitute having been unavailable since late December because of a hamstring injury. For the first time in a number of months, Postecoglou was finally able to utilise his bench effectively with fresh legs introduced at regular intervals.

Having more senior players back available may have arrived at the perfect time with the Tottenham boss revealing three players have picked up fresh knocks. Thankfully, it is another free mid-week for Spurs ahead of facing Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday.

With that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest Tottenham injury news and return dates before that clash away from home.

Kevin Danso

Injury: Knock

Danso was spotted limping in the late stages against Manchester United and was subsequently replaced by Archie Gray with 12 minutes to play.

What Postecoglou has said: "He got a knock on his knee. Him, Sonny and Rodri all got sort of knocks. I don't think it is anything significant. But the beauty of it now is we can actually get them to recover instead of trying to patch them up and throw them out (onto the pitch) again midweek.

"I think from what I’ve heard, knocks all three of them but they should be fine."

Possible return date: Ipswich Town (A) - Saturday, February 22

Son Heung-min

Injury: Knock

Like Danso, Son was also taken off in the latter stages with an apparent knock

What Postecoglou has said: "Him [Danso], Sonny and Rodri all got sort of knocks.

Rodrigo Bentancur

Injury: Knock

Bentancur was also subbed off with 12 minutes remaining after seemingly picking up a knock.

What Postecoglou has said: "Him [Danso], Sonny and Rodri [Bentancur] all got sort of knocks.

Destiny Udogie

Injury: Hamstring

Udogie returned to the matchday squad against Manchester United but did not feature off the bench

What Postecoglou has said: "Of the longer-term (injuries), Destiny is back in team training as well, which is good. He’s ticked all the boxes in terms of getting through his rehab and conditioning, so he’s part of the squad."

Possible return date: Ipswich Town (A) - Saturday, February 22

James Maddison

Injury: Calf

Maddison was in the Tottenham starting XI after a few weeks out with a calf injury. He scored the decisive goal on his return before being replaced just beyond the hour mark.

What Postecoglou has said: "Madders is a little bit ahead of schedule (in his recovery). He’s feeling really good. He’s had a good week of training. We were thinking maybe (it'll be) next week for him, but he’s trained really well all week, and he’s had the least amount of time out, so he’s looking in a good place."

Possible return date: Returned

Guglielmo Vicario

Injury: Ankle

Vicario fractured his ankle back in late November but he returned on Sunday with a clean sheet against Man United.

What Postecoglou has said: "Some of the lads who have been out for quite a while look like they’re in a good place now. Vic is probably the one who has come back ahead of schedule.

"He’s been training really well away from the team for two weeks. In the last 10 days he’s integrated back into the team and is fully into training, so he’s in a good place and that means he becomes available for us.”

Possible return date: Returned

Brennan Johnson

Injury: Calf

Johnson came off the bench against Man United having not featured since mid-January because of a minor calf issue.

What Postecoglou has said: "Brennan is progressing well. Again, he joined in team training, he will train again today which means, whether it’s this weekend or next weekend, he’ll be good to go."

Possible return date: Returned

Wilson Odobert

Injury: Hamstring

Odobert has endured an injury-ravaged debut season for Tottenham, but he returned in the late stages against Man United.

What Postecoglou has said: "Wilson’s back, which is brilliant for him because he’s been out the longest and it’s been a long road for him to get back, but he’s back in team training."

Possible return date: Returned

Timo Werner

Werner just missed out on featuring against Man United, but could return next weekend at Ipswich Town.

Injury: Hamstring

What Postecoglou has said: "Timo is also training with us and is getting pretty close to being available.”

Possible return date: Ipswich Town (A) - Saturday, February 22

Micky van de Ven

Postecoglou has explained exactly why Van de Ven has not featured since playing 45 minutes against Elfsborg in the Europa League.

Injury: Hamstring

What Postecoglou has said: "Micky, Cuti and Dom, again, we’re looking at the next two or three weeks for them. They’re going well.

"We've had a few people externally looking at him and give him some more guidance and information, added to our stuff, which he can do differently around, not so much the injury, but to help his body adapt to the extreme athlete he is and can be.

"You always want to protect your assets and he is a major club asset and to protect his long-term career for the sake of a couple of weeks is worth it."

Possible return date: March

Cristian Romero

Injury: Quad

Romero is another to have missed a significant period. Despite returning to training at Hotspur Way nearly four weeks ago, he is yet to feature. The Argentine has since been spotted in Qatar continuing his rehabilitation.

What Postecoglou has said: "Micky, Cuti and Dom, again, we’re looking at the next two or three weeks for them. They’re going well. The healing in his [Romero's] quad is taking longer than we thought. He’s got one more scan to make sure it’s healed properly. Once we get that sign off, we should be good to go."

Possible return date: March

Dominic Solanke

Injury: Knee

Solanke has been unavailable since just before the January defeat to Everton after picking up an unfortunate knee injury in training.

What Postecoglou has said: "Micky, Cuti and Dom, again, we’re looking at the next two or three weeks for them. They’re going well."

Possible return date: March

Richarlison

Injury: Calf

Richarlison suffered his third separate injury of the season during the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool.

What Postecoglou has said: “Richy, again, similar to Madders and Brennan, who had similar calf injuries, depending on how he recovers – Madders bounced back really quickly, it’s only been two and a bit weeks for him, Brennan’s been three weeks - we’re looking at the same time frame for Richy.”

Possible return date: March

Radu Dragusin

Injury: Knee

Dragusin is expected to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his knee.

What Postecoglou has said: “Hard to tell (the extent of the injury). It’s a knee (issue), (but we’ve) got to let it settle down. Always a concern when it’s a knee injury, but we have to wait and see."

Possible return date: Unknown

Ange Postecoglou knows what he needs for success at Tottenham but unfortunately he won't get it

Description

Tottenham Hotspur recorded back-to-back wins in the Premier League and back-to-back clean sheets with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

An upturn in form has come just when it was needed. And for the first time in a number of weeks, manager Ange Postecoglou has options to choose from in his team.

Guglielmo Vicario came back into the starting line-up for the first time since gameweek 12, while James Maddison also returned to the XI. Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert were also in Spurs' matchday squad, with the latter two making an appearance in the second half.

It made a massive difference, with Vicario and Maddison playing a huge part in the win over the Red Devils - the goalkeeper making a number of fine saves and Maddison scoring the only goal of the game.

But as well as having players returning to action from long-term injuries, there was something else Postecoglou had that the Spurs boss has not for a while - time on the training ground.

For the first time since mid-November, Spurs had a full week off, with no midweek action in their calendar. And it made all the difference.

The last time Tottenham had a full week between matches was in November, and after having a week off to work on the training pitch, Spurs thrashed Manchester City 4-0. Now, three months on, a week of work at Hotspur Way has ended with Spurs picking up a victory - 1-0 over City's rivals United.

Spurs now have another full week off before they take on Ipswich Town in the Premier League next weekend. And if they continue their run of picking up wins after a week's rest, they will find themselves in a much better position in the table.

However, that extra rest will not be maintained. After the Tractor Boys, Spurs play Man City in midweek and then there comes the return of European football - with the Europa League last-16 games to be played in the following midweeks.

With success comes more midweek matches - by virtue of playing in European competitions. Postecoglou clearly needs to rest his players in order to get success this season, if the last two results after a week off are anything to go by.

But success breeds success and the Australian will need Daniel Levy to be more active in the summer transfer market to give him better strength-in-depth in order to help deal with the workload moving forward.

There is no chance of recovery time currently, nor will there be if Postecoglou makes Spurs successful in the near future. But after huge fan protests against Levy prior to the win over United, the chairman needs to listen and get his chequebook out.

Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison Tottenham truth clear as Daniel Levy sent important message

Tottenham made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League with a crucial 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday. Fresh from having a free midweek and a number of players returning to the training pitch from injury, Ange Postecoglou was able to freshen up his Spurs starting XI.

Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison came into the team after their respective injuries, with Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert taking their place on the bench. Tottenham started the game on top but it was United who threatened first with Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho having shots saved by Vicario, before Diogo Dalot then had an effort cleared off the line by Ben Davies.

Vicario's heroics proved to be a key moment in the contest as Spurs went straight up the other end and opened the scoring through Maddison after Andre Onana could only palm Lucas Bergvall's low effort into his path. Tottenham were not too far off doubling their lead just after the midway point of the first half but Onana was on hand to stop Mathys Tel from marking his home debut with a goal.

The visitors did up the ante after the break and Vicario was required to save twice from Garnacho just prior to the hour mark, with his second save low down to his right a superb reaction to deny the Argentine. Despite some late pressure from the away side, Spurs did manage to hold on to leapfrog their opponents in the Premier League table.

Here are five things we spotted in the game in north London:

Squad boost

Postecoglou revealed some positive news on Friday regarding six of his players ahead of the Manchester United match. Confirming that Vicario, Maddison and Udogie were in a position to be involved in the matchday squad, he also mentioned that Odobert, Johnson and Timo Werner were back in first-team training at Hotspur Way.

While there was to be no place in the squad for Werner on Sunday, Vicario and Maddison started as Udogie, Odobert and Johnson took their place on the bench, with Archie Gray doing the same after a 17-game starting streak. Dane Scarlett was also included again as he was cup-tied for Tottenham's previous two games against Liverpool and Aston Villa.

The incoming players meant that Postecoglou's 20-man matchday party finally resembled a first-team squad after having to name so many academy players of late just to ensure they had sufficient numbers on a matchday. Sergio Reguilon, who has been a regular on the bench of late, was also another one to miss out due to those coming back into the fold.

The numbers should hopefully increase even further in the next two to three weeks as that's when Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison and Dominic Solanke are due to return. Things do finally appear to be looking up for Tottenham.

Fan protest

All eyes were on Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of the game with Change for Tottenham organising a peaceful protest against Daniel Levy and owners ENIC. Plenty of fans have become disillusioned with the football club in recent years and want change to take place in order to see Spurs compete at the top and for honours every season.

Following a couple of different protests in the past that maybe lacked the numbers, this one was extremely well attended with at least a couple of thousand people in attendance for it. Walking down the High Road towards the stadium and making their feelings clear, the fans arrived in front of the west stand not long after 3pm and football.london were there to capture the moment, which can be seen below.

Leaders stepping up

The return of Vicario and Maddison was not only important in terms of Postecoglou getting two of his first-team regulars back. Their return was also vital in terms of adding a couple of leaders to the starting XI.

Spurs have lacked leadership on the pitch in recent weeks, most notably in the Liverpool and Aston Villa cup defeats as they barely laid a glove on their opponents. Whereas Maddison is one of Tottenham's two vice-captains, Vicario is part of the leadership group and also a key figure on the pitch as he is a winner and also extremely vocal.

It perhaps came as no surprise to see the duo have a huge say on the game in the opening exchanges. Vicario was on hand to save well from Hojlund and Garnacho, with Spurs also lucky that Davies was in the right place to clear off the line after Dalot had sent a shot goalwards.

United's failure to score was duly punished as Tottenham went upfield moments later and opened the scoring in the 13th minute through Maddison. The England international's form may have fluctuated this season when he has been in the team but it was his tenth goal of the campaign in all competitions, with nine of those coming in the Premier League.

Both continued to have a big say on the contest as it wore on, with Vicario producing some top saves early in the second half to frustrate Garnacho. Both Vicario and Maddison stepped up when Tottenham needed them most.

A message for Keane

It wasn't just the customary darts celebration that Maddison pulled out after opening the scoring for Tottenham against Manchester United. This time he also held a finger to his lips as he looked directly at the camera.

It was perhaps a message for United great Roy Keane following his comments when speaking on The Overlap ahead of the game in north London.

Keane said: "We saw James Maddison at Tamworth, he was taken off! Tamworth are non-league... People say; 'Maddison's the man', but when is he going to step up to the plate? "He got relegated with Leicester [City] and [looks like] with Spurs.

"Maddison isn't bad, but if you think he's going to come back and get Spurs top six, you're in cuckoo land. He's a talented player, but if you're a player in the Spurs dressing room and he's coming back in the squad, you wouldn't be looking and going; 'James is back today - we're going to be fine'."

It was the perfect response from Maddison as he dealt Keane's former club a big blow after only 13 minutes. He responded in the perfect way by letting his football do the talking.

The benefit of a free week

One thing that was noticeable during Tottenham's game against Manchester United was that Postecoglou's side looked so much fresher for having a week off. The team's 2024/25 schedule has been rather hectic to say the least with very few free midweek slots available to the team due to their cup commitments.

Last having no midweek game prior to the Newcastle defeat at the start of January, a free midweek slot heading into Sunday's game against the Red Devils really did come at the perfect time. As Postecoglou only had the same small group of players to work with at a time when many were in the treatment room, it was needed and it allowed those regulars to have a few days away from the club to relax.

You could certainly tell the difference from one week ago at Aston Villa as Spurs were considerably fresher and so much better for having some time off. It will be more of the same over the next few days as Tottenham again have time on their side to prepare for Saturday's game at Ipswich Town.

Ange Postecoglou is holding his press conference following Tottenham's game against Manchester United on Sunday in the Premier League.

Spurs and their head coach Postecoglou finally had some players back and available after injury with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison returning to the starting line-up and Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert all back on the bench.

The match was played out after a fans protest against Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and the Spurs board ahead of the encounter with up to 2,000 supporters marching towards the stadium down the high street.

During the game it was Maddison who grabbed what would end up being the winning goal when early on he fired home a loose ball after Andre Onana could only push Lucas Bergvall's shot his way in the United box.

Both sides had opportunities in either half to change the scoreline but neither could take them and it was Spurs who made it back-to-back Premier League wins and a clean sheet to climb up into 12th place in the table.

Our Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold is among those putting the questions to Postecoglou after the game. Scroll down for his latest updates from the press conference at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur came away with a 1-0 victory against Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon and here are our Spurs player ratings.

United and Spurs went into the game sitting 14th and 15th in the table with two points separating them. Ange Postecoglou finally had some players back from injury with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison returning to the team and Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert all back on the bench.

The match was played out after a fans protest against chairman Daniel Levy and the Spurs board ahead of the game with up to 2,000 supporters marching towards the stadium down the high street.

In the game it was Maddison who grabbed what would end up being the winner when early on he slammed home the loose ball after Andre Onana could only push Lucas Bergvall's shot his way.

Both sides had chances in either half to change the scoreline but neither could take them and it was Spurs who made it back-to-back Premier League wins and a clean sheet to climb up into 12th place in the table.

Here are our Tottenham player ratings from the game:

Guglielmo Vicario

Made a couple of saves in the 10th minute and denied Garnacho twice before the hour mark. Was also good from set pieces on the whole. Brought much needed leadership to the back line. 8

Pedro Porro

Looked so much better for the midweek off and he was still flying up and down the right late on, winning important free-kicks. 7

Kevin Danso

Made an important sliding challenge to put off Garnacho in a good position 20 minutes or so in and made a great chasing tackle on Hojlund with 20 minutes to go. Looked to be limping at times in the second half and was replaced by Gray. Another really good display from the Austrian. 8

Ben Davies

Battled away even if United's breaks pulled him all over the place as he had to cover in behind the marauding Spence. 7

Djed Spence

Spurs' best player and he needs to stay in this team for the foreseeable future. He terrified United every time he ran with the ball at his feet. 9

Lucas Bergvall

It was his shot that was pushed towards Maddison by Onana. Looked very calm in tight situations until he started to tire and came off just after the hour. 6

Rodrigo Bentancur

Started brightly but faded badly in the second half and had a big ice pack on his knee on the bench after he came off. 5

James Maddison

Back in the starting line-up and he anticipated Bergvall's shot being saved and fired home the loose ball. Tried to make things happen and Spurs kept looking to him. A bright return for just over an hour. 7

Dejan Kulusevski

Lacking in quality at times but a tireless display from the Swede and he looked far fresher. 6

Mathys Tel

A really busy display with shots aplenty. Forced Onana into a save before the half hour mark and had enough efforts to get on the scoresheet. Worked so hard. 7

Son Heung-min

It was the captain's volley across the six-yard box that led to Maddison's goal and he teed up Tel for a shot midway through the half. Didn't have the same impact in the second half but kept probing for openings. 6

Subs

Brennan Johnson

A return to action and had a few forays forward but wasn't able to make an impact other than give United something to be concerned about. 5

Pape Matar Sarr

Brought good energy to a flagging midfield. 6

Archie Gray

Replaced Danso for the final stages. N/A

Yves Bissouma

Came on for the struggling Bentancur. N/A

Wilson Odobert

A return after so long out and it was a bright late cameo. N/A

James Maddison sends wordless message to Roy Keane after Tottenham goal vs Man Utd

James Maddison had the perfect response to criticism from Roy Keane. The Tottenham star returned to the starting lineup after almost a month out of action and had an immediate impact.

Spurs hosted Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the battle of the big six's worst performing sides this season. And after a horrendous injury crisis, head coach Ange Postecoglou was able to welcome back first team stars Guglielmo Vicario and Maddison to his starting lineup.

And in the 13th minute Maddison opened the scoring, tapping home after Lucas Bergvall's initial shot was only parried out by Andre Onana.

Maddison had received harsh criticism from former Manchester United star Keane prior to kick-off. Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast earlier in the week, Keane said: "Which players [are we] talking about coming back that can help Spurs? I agree with [Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario] – that's two.

"[Destiny] Udogie is not bad. We saw James Maddison at Tamworth, he was taken off! Tamworth are non-league. People say, 'Maddison's the man', but when is he going to step up to the plate?

"He got relegated with Leicester [City] and [looks like] with Spurs. Maddison isn't bad but if you think he's going to come back and get Spurs top six, you're in cuckoo land.

"He's a talented player, but if you're a player in the Spurs dressing room and he's back in the squad, you wouldn't be looking and going, 'James is back today – we're going to be fine'."

Maddison's goal was a strong enough response, but the England man went one further with his celebration. He looked straight for the camera and delivered his usual darts celebration before openign and shutting his thumb and fingers in a talking motion and then putting his finger to his mouth in a shushing gesture, possibly aimed at Keane.

Tottenham protests against Daniel Levy explained ahead of Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur fans are planning a protest against chairman Daniel Levy ahead of the Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Before the game, protesters from fans’ group ‘Change for Tottenham’ are planning a march, with a sit-in protest in the south stand following the full-time whistle. The group have organised the protest to highlight its 'dissatisfaction with the club's current direction in footballing matters'.

It’s not the first time a protest of some sort has taken place, with chants calling for the chairman’s exit prevalent among fans in recent weeks amid the team’s poor form. Spokesperson for the group Jay Coughlan has explained the feeling behind the protests with a message to Levy. “You [Levy] are killing a once great football club to improve your own financial wellbeing,” he told GB News .

“Us fans deserve to have a voice, we seem to have sat back and let the club slowly lose what we are about.”

He added in an interview with The Sun: “It’s by far the most vigilant fans have been on the way the club acts. If you look at 2019, we were battling to win a Champions League final, fast forward five years and realistically we’re in a relegation fight.”

Ahead of the game against United, Spurs sit in 15th place in the Premier League table, having picked up 27 points from their 24 games so far this season. They are 10 points ahead of both Ipswich Town in 18th and Leicester City in 19th position.

In their latest financial results, Spurs posted a revenue of £615 million. The summer transfer window saw the club’s net spend at £77.4 million, more than half of the £153.5 million net spend of Brighton and Hove Albion.

Ange Postecoglou has named his Tottenham Hotspur side to take on Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

United and Spurs currently sit 14th and 15th in the table with two points separating them and a win would take the victor up into 12th. Tottenham have been going through an injury crisis and now United appear to be picking up some problems of their own in that department.

Postecoglou has experienced the rarity of not having a midweek match and has finally been able to enjoy various players returning to training at Hotspur Way this week after injury. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is back between the sticks and James Maddison starts in midfield. Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert are on the bench.

The Spurs boss finally has some options in a couple of positions, including between Ben Davies, Kevin Danso and Archie Gray in central defence and he has gone with the former two. Mathys Tel scored on his full debut against Aston Villa and the 19-year-old starts again in attack.

Here's the Tottenham team Postecoglou has selected:

Confirmed Tottenham XI: Vicario; Porro, Danso, Davies, Spence; Bentancur, Bergvall, Maddison; Kulusevski, Tel, Son.

Subs: Kinsky, Udogie, Gray, Sarr, Bissouma, Moore, Johnson, Odobert, Scarlett.

Tottenham drop James Maddison clue amid triple team news hint before Manchester United clash

Tottenham Hotspur are set to host Manchester United on Sunday afternoon in desperate need of a result.

Ange Postecoglou's team have just one win in the Premier League since mid-December and crashed out of both domestic cups in their previous two fixtures. Tottenham currently sit 15th in the top-flight table - but could move above their opponents this weekend with a win.

And several Spurs players have hinted they will feature in Sunday afternoon's game. James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Kevin Danso are among the Tottenham men who have posted pre-match graphics on their Instagram stories, hinting that they may start against Ruben Amorim's team.

Historically, players who share these graphics have tended to be in the team come kick-off. Maddison's return to Postecoglou's side will be a welcome relief to the Spurs manager.

"Madders is a little bit ahead of schedule [in his recovery]," manager Postecoglou said during his pre-match press conference on Friday morning. "He's feeling really good.

"He's had a good week of training. We were thinking maybe [it will be] next week for him - but he's trained really well all week, and he's had the least amount of time out, so he's looking in a good place.

The Australian also provided an update on Destiny Udogie, who could also return to action this Sunday afternoon. The left-back has been side-lined since the end of last year when he was forced off during December's 2-2 draw at home to Wolves.

Postecoglou continued: "Of the longer-term [injuries], Destiny is back in team training as well, which is good. He's ticked all the boxes in terms of getting through his rehab and conditioning, so he's part of the squad."
