Liverpool could see a star return to the team today. The Reds host Tottenham Hotspur today.

Alisson Becker could return for Liverpool against Tottenham Hotspur today. The Brazilian missed the defeat against Galatasaray with a muscle injury.

Arne Slot has been clear, however, that it wasn’t a serious injury. Alisson felt a problem in the final training session before departing for Istanbul and Liverpool decided against taking any chances with it.

But it’s expected that he’ll return today. If not, the home fixture against Galatasaray is a near-definite.

Giorgi Mamardashvili could be straight out of the XI, then. The Georgian stepped in for the Gala game and had a difficult time of it, given how often the hosts were able to attack his goal. There’s no question that he’s appreciate another opportunity.

He may have to wait a bit longer for one, however.

Alisson Becker: Situation Summary

Contract Extension until 2027

On 14 March, Liverpool officially triggered a one-year extension option in Alisson’s contract, securing his future at Anfield until June 2027. His agent, Ze Maria Neis, confirmed the renewal, which prevents the 33-year-old from entering the final year of his deal this summer. Despite heavy interest from Juventus, where Luciano Spalletti is reportedly keen on a reunion, the club’s decision to trigger the clause signals their intent to retain him as the primary No. 1, even with Giorgi Mamardashvili in the squad.

Tottenham Injury Update

Alisson remains a doubt for today’s 16:30 GMT kick-off against Spurs at Anfield. He missed the midweek defeat to Galatasaray due to a "minor" muscle tweak felt while passing during training. Arne Slot stated on Friday that he is "hopeful" Alisson can return, but a late fitness test will determine if he starts or if Mamardashvili continues in goal. If he misses out, Slot expects him back "definitely" for the Champions League second leg on Wednesday.

Liverpool ASSURED that Andy Robertson to Spurs deal will still happen

Liverpool Transfer News: Reds ASSURED that Andy Robertson to Spurs deal will still happen - Anfield Watch
Description

Last week it appeared that Liverpool were close to selling Andy Robertson to Tottenham.

The 31-year-old has been short of starts under Arne Slot this season ever since Milos Kerkez was signed for £40m. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup around the corner it is understandable that Robbo wants first-team football.

And with Spurs undergoing a left-back fitness crisis this was a deal which worked out for everyone. But it hit the skids when Liverpool were unable to get their preferred replacement in.

Kostas Tsimikas, 29, has been on loan at Roma but had endured a difficult spell in the Italian capital. Therefore it looked a natural choice to recall the Greek and use him as Kerkez’s backup until the end of the season.

Roma however have been unwilling to let the left-back return to Anfield despite their own sparse use of him.

The Giallorossi need another left-back in the winter window and are believed to be close to reaching a deal for David Moller Wolfe - the Norway international at Wolves.

Moller Wolfe in Roma's sights

There is still a way to go before agreement is sealed between the two clubs but once that happens it is expected that Tsimikas will be released.

And that in turn will see Robertson’s proposed transfer to Spurs back ON.

That’s according to a report in TEAMtalk which claims that the Scotland captain is currently satisfied with the way events are progressing.

“Liverpool have informed Andy Robertson that a move to Tottenham Hotspur remains an option for the final week of the window,” the report reads.

“Liverpool are open to recalling Tsimikas from his loan in Italy, a move that would free Robertson to complete a high‑profile switch to Spurs.

“Roma have privately assured Liverpool that they are confident of landing a new left‑back.”

Liverpool ASSURED of left-back deal

So there are a few factors at play - and right now Wolves hold the keys. If they agree to sell Moller Wolfe to Roma for around £10m then Tsimikas’ short and unhappy spell will be at an end.

And once he comes back to base he will become Kerkez’s understudy while Robbo goes to Spurs.

Robertson’s salary of course will be removed from the books - with the player’s contract worth around £160k per week.

Liverpool will also bank around £5m from the deal - not a bad return for a performer who cost £8m from Hull City nine years ago.

Liverpool have golden chance to SIGN frustrated Tottenham Hotspur star - Anfield Watch
Description

Liverpool have a golden opportunity and it's not one they should waste. A frustrated Tottenham Hotspur star may just be available.

Liverpool simply need to look at centre-backs. Their current situation just isn't a workable one - and it may need sorting this month.

The plan was to sign Marc Guehi for this campaign, of course. Crystal Palace ended that plan right at the last moment of the summer transfer window, deciding they couldn't afford to lose their captain without a suitable replacement.

Signing Guehi would have helped Liverpool out immensely. Not only would they have a fantastic player for this season, boosting their depth significantly, but he'd have eased the situation around Ibrahima Konate.

Konate's contract expires at the end of the campaign and he may leave Liverpool for free. The club need to find a replacement if he's not re-signing - Guehi could have been that.

Joe Gomez's future is up in the air, too, as he nearly joined AC Milan in August. Then there's Giovanni Leoni - an unknown quantity as he recovers from a serious knee injury.

And so there's little choice but to consider the market. Be it now or the summer, Liverpool will assess their cenrte-back situation.

Micky van de Ven's frustrations

Perhaps there's an option waiting for Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur? Micky van de Ven is reportedly growing frustrated at Spurs, says the Telegraph, as they continue to struggle badly.

Last season was saved by the Europa League victory, of course, but Tottenham's league campaign was an absolute disaster. They're struggling to do much better this time around, sitting in 14th.

And so there is essentially zero chance of them qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season. They may not have European football at all - and that will hit their books hard.

Hard enough that selling someone like Van de Ven, especially if he's unsettled, becomes a very real possibility. The 24-year-old has been great for Spurs despite their struggles, boasting the physical profile that elite clubs want.

The Dutchman is rapid, after all. Not only that but he knows how to pass the ball - a 96 per cent pass completion over medium range. Similar over short range, too.

That is essentially the hallmark of what Liverpool want. Recovery pace and the ability to operate as a consistent deep player in possession.

If Spurs need to sell, Van de Ven is absolutely one for Liverpool to watch.

Liverpool star's early return CONFIRMED by club - Anfield Watch

One Liverpool star will return early from injury. Arne Slot has delivered the good news ahead of the Tottenham Hotspur clash.

Liverpool's form this season hasn't been good and while there are several reasons for that, one is absolutely the availability of players. Arne Slot hasn't had a full squad to pick from in months.

Article continues under the video

In fact, Giovanni Leoni's injury means he won't have one all season unless Liverpool move to sign a new centre-back in January. That's entirely possible, of course, but until someone arrives, the Reds are short at the back.

Other injuries will, thankfully, clear up without the need for signings. The Reds might need to wait a little bit before seeing certain players, though - Joe Gomez went off against Brighton and is out of the squad to face Tottenham Hotspur.

But Arne Slot moved to confirm some returns on Friday ahead of the Spurs clash. And one player who should return ahead of schedule later this month.

Cody Gakpo to make early return

Arne Slot confirmed on Friday that Cody Gakpo will return ‘early’ from his injury. Or at least, earlier than Liverpool planned for.

"Gakpo, had a scan that looks promising, so we're not that worried anymore that we were a few weeks ago,” said Slot in his press conference. "He will come back early but not tomorrow or next week."

So it certainly won’t be for the Spurs game and we may not even see Gakpo until early January - but it isn’t the long-term injury that Liverpool feared. That’s a boost, given Mo Salah will likely be gone until near the end of January.

The Reds need their attacking options and particularly those who can actually play. Alexander Isak is yet to establish himself as a regular, while Gakpo has shown he can be a regular starter.

In fact, only really the Dutchman and Hugo Ekitike have been trusted by Slot this season. Everyone else has suffered poor form and dropped out of the team.

A boost for Liverpool, then. Gakpo should be back in action before long.

Liverpool look to cement their spot at the summit of the Premier League for Christmas as they lock horns with Tottenham Hotspur.

The precursor to the last four clash will see Arne Slot’s men aim to extend their lead at the top of the table after back-to-back draws and a Merseyside Derby saw their healthy gap narrow down to just two points.

Postecoglou was full of praise for Slot and Liverpool in his pre-match press conference following the Dutchman’s start to life after taking over from the legendary Jurgen Klopp.

“Arne [Slot] has come in and it’s not easy when you’re taking over from somebody with the status of Jurgen Klopp. They’re very settled and as a team, they’ve got quality within the starting XI and squad,

“They’ve dealt with things; you saw last week they were a man down and they still had that overall belief. They’re the standout team in the competition so far, but again on our day when we play our football, we’re pretty good opposition,” the Australian said.
