According to Football Insider, Celtic want a club-record fee for midfielder Matt O’Riley, who was mooted as a target for Tottenham earlier this summer.

Postecoglou coached Matt O’Riley at Celtic

Ange Postecoglou knows O’Riley well, having taken him from MK Dons to Celtic back in January of 2022.

The Denmark international has gone from strength to strength in his two-and-a-half years at Parkhead and he is thought to be on the radar of several sides across Europe.

It was reported by GiveMeSport back in May that Postecoglou could reunite with the 23-year-old at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the outlet also crediting West Ham with interest in the player.

Last week, Football Scotland reported that Atalanta had submitted an offer of £15m for O’Riley, which was swiftly turned down by Celtic.

Second-offer expected for Matt O’Riley

Football Insider have now revealed that the Italian side are ready to step up their pursuit of the midfielder and are set to return with a second bid.

It is explained that Celtic’s previous record sale is the £25m Al-Ittihad paid for Jota last year, with the Scottish giants wanting a bigger fee for O’Riley.

The publication adds that Leicester are also interested in the Dane but with Champions League clubs vying for the player, the Foxes’ chances of landing him appear slim.

Spurs Web Opinion

The O’Riley to Spurs links earlier this summer seemed to be purely down to the Postecoglou factor.

There is very little evidence to suggest that Tottenham are seriously considering a move for the Celtic star.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have just been handed a potential boost in their pursuit of Ivan Toney, with The Daily Mail revealing that Manchester United are expected to pull out of the race for the Brentford star.

Where will Ivan Toney end up this summer?

Toney has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs all summer, with GiveMeSport reporting last week that the Lilywhites are expected to make a ‘serious push’ for the striker once he returns from the Euros.

The outlet claimed that Ange Postecoglou’s men are hoping to land the centre-forward for around £40m while Brentford are continuing to insist on £60m.

However, over the weekend, SportBILD offered Spurs a blow by suggesting that Man Utd are also intent on landing Toney and that the player was keen on a switch to Old Trafford.

Ivan Toney is no longer a target for United

If The Mail’s latest update is to be believed, Toney is no longer a target for United after they acquired Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Having spent £36.5m for the Netherlands international, the report says that Erik Ten Hag’s men are not in a position to spend big to sign another centre-forward.

The publication adds that as things stand, Toney is not currently viewed as a ‘realistic signing’ by the Manchester club.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Arsenal focused on other alternatives and with Man Utd now out of the running, it seems like only West Ham and Chelsea are Tottenham’s competitors for Toney’s signature this summer.

The route does seem to be clearing for Spurs to pull off a sensational deal.

The Malian international posted himself decked out in England gear after the Three Lions lost 2-1 in the final, issuing an interesting message after the game.

Spurs had no England internationals at the EUROss for the first time since 1992

James Maddison was agonisingly close to joining England on their EUROs trip to Berlin after being named in the provisional 33-man squad in the lead-up to the tournament.

Maddison even featured in the Three Lions’ penultimate EUROs warm-up game, just to be axed from the squad days after. (Sky Sports)

England still managed to reach the final without Maddison, facing Spain in Berlin, who had won all six of their games in the tournament leading up to the final. Southgate’s side fell short on the night, suffering a 2-1 defeat.

The loss meant it was back-to-back EUROs final losses for Southgate and England, with the Three Lions manager announcing that he would leave his position just days after the defeat.

Bissouma appeared deflated after England’s loss

As relayed by HITC, Tottenham midfielder, Yves Bissouma appeared devastated when the Three Lions lost, despite none of his Spurs teammates being a part of the squad.

Bissouma has lived in England for six years now, after joining Brighton from Lille back in 2018, and posted himself in being in the national spirit, donning a retro England shirt with the look topped off with another retro kit wrapped around his head.

The midfielder was filmed expressing his sadness at the result, stating “I can’t believe it. I am so sad right now. Oh my god. That’s crazy. I think the better team one. Sad, I am sad.”

Bissouma then pleaded with fans to be forgiving to England’s players as he said: “but I think the guys worked really hard, so we need to support them. They wanted to win as well. It’s life, it’s cruel. Oh, come on boys. It’s hard.”

Tottenham’s Malian midfielder may have been sympathising with his ex-Tottenham teammate, Harry Kane, whose wait for a trophy continued as he was substituted just after an hour had passed in the final.

Spurs Web opinion

It’s nice to see Bissouma adopting and supporting the nation of which Tottenham are based and his compassionate support will likely please some English Spurs fans.

Bissouma was likely calling for fans to support the players after experiencing national backlash himself after Malia exited the AFCON in 2023 at the quarter-final stage.

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to make a number of big signings this summer, but one of the most important deals they could strike appears to be getting closer to completion.

Sonny will stay at Spurs for an extra 12 months

After months of speculation and suggestions it would happen, Ben Jacobs has revealed Tottenham will be tying their captain, Heung-min Son, into a further one-year contract extension very soon.

Jacobs tweeted: “Spurs will trigger a one-year contract extension for Son this summer keeping him at the club until 2026. Current deal expires in 2025, but the Spurs captain will be extended by a further 12 months.”

Son’s current contract was signed in 2021, but it has been widely believed for some time that his stay in North London would be extended without any real issues.

A report from Football Insider last month claimed Spurs were preparing to make concrete plans for the ‘long-term future’ of their star attacker and would be triggering that extension soon.

According to The Athletic, the plan is to confirm the extension, and then negotiate a new, bigger contract with Son at some point.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Former Spurs full-back, Alan Hutton, had told Football Insider that the renewal would ‘100%’ be happening at some point as Son is such a ‘huge’ player for the club.

Heung-min Son loves it at Spurs

Having joined the club in 2015, Son has gone on to become a modern icon and club legend at Spurs.

As per GiveMeSport, the South Korean has loved his time at Tottenham, citing the decision to sign for the club as the best move of his career, and playing down the idea of any possible exit this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no way we would go through this summer without sorting Son’s contract out, and I would expect it to be wrapped up very soon indeed.

It’s a no-brainer for all parties, and I’d be surprised if we didn’t give him a brand-new contract before the season is over.

Report: Chelsea may use Gallagher as bait to sign England star

Description

Tottenham Hotspur may miss out on Conor Gallagher as Football Insider have revealed that Chelsea are set to use the midfielder as a makeweight in order to land Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa this summer.

Spurs continue to be linked with Conor Gallagher

Gallagher has been mooted as a target for Spurs for the past 12 months and with the Euros now over, it will be interesting to see if the Lilywhites do test Chelsea’s resolve with an offer for the England international.

In fact, just a few days ago, 90min reported that the Blues are ‘waiting to see’ if Tottenham make an offer for the 24-year-old, who they value at around £35m-£40m.

Whatever the case, it appears the links between Spurs and Gallagher are going nowhere.

Chelsea’s new plan for Conor Gallagher

Football Insider have now suggested that the West London club could use Gallagher as a sweetener in order to land one of their top targets.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is revealed that Enzo Maresca’s men are now plotting a move to bring Watkins to Stamford Bridge as they are keen to revamp their attack ahead of the new season.

With Villa having previously expressed an interest in Gallagher, Chelsea are now allegedly ready to offer the midfielder plus cash for the 28-year-old striker.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no chance that Villa would consider letting Watkins leave and the England striker is unlikely to push for a move, given that Unai Emery’s men have qualified for the Champions League while Chelsea failed to do so.

I expect Gallagher to play hardball and stay for another season, then perhaps force Chelsea into handing him a new contract rather than letting him leave on a free.

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a blow in their pursuit of Nico Williams, with Fabrizio Romano now revealing that Barcelona are preparing to push ahead with a move for the winger this week.

Nico Williams was on fire at the Euros for Spain

While Willaims might be the dream summer signing for plenty of Spurs fans, it became clear over the weekend that the Lilywhites have their cut out to land the 22-year-old, who was one of the stars of Spain’s victorious Euro 2024 campaign.

This was because several reports emerged that the Athletic Club Bilbao star had agreed to join Barcelona this summer (Mundo Deportivo).

In fact, CaughtOffside, even asserted that the winger had ‘verbally accepted’ the Catalan side’s offer of a five-year contract.

Barcelona are ready to make their move

Romano has now taken to social media to state that Barca are now prepared to enter into ‘advanced talks’ with William’s camp regarding a summer switch to Camp Nou.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The journalist claims that the Blaugrana have identified the Spain international as their number one target, with manager Hansi Flick having already approved the signing.

However, Romano adds that Barca have to wrap up the deal quickly as some Premier League sides are still circling over Williams.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that no Premier League side has made a concrete move for Williams is perhaps evidence that the winger wants to remain in La Liga.

It does appear as if he has his heart set on a move to Barca.

Liverpool are eyeing a move for Pedro Neto but journalist Graeme Bailey insists that it is Spurs and Newcastle who are at the front of the queue to land the Wolves star at the moment (Rousing the Kop).

Pedro Neto has been linked with Tottenham

Neto has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham for many months and the speculation shows no signs of slowing down.

Just last week, GiveMeSport asserted that Spurs were leading the race to land the 24-year-old and were optimistic about beating Newcastle and other Premier League clubs to the winger’s signature.

It has now been claimed that Neto has also been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time and the club could push ahead with a move for the player this summer.

Liverpool could enter the race for Pedro Neto

It is revealed that Arne Slot’s men may be on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah and the Portuguese star may fit the bill, having plenty of Premier League experience under his belt.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, Graeme Bailey insists that while the race for Neto’s signature remains wide open for the time being, it is the Lilywhites and the Magpies who appear particularly keen on signing the former Braga man.

When asked about the Wolves star, the journalist said: “I don’t think there’s particularly a favourite yet. Wolves will let him go but I think he’s got a lot of options out there.

“Recently in the last few weeks, it’s been more Newcastle and Tottenham talking to Neto, but Liverpool are keeping abreast of the situation. He’ll cost £60m.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see Tottenham being prepared to pay £60m for Neto, particularly if the club also want to sign one of Eberechi Eze or Desire Doue, along with a centre-forward (potentially Jonathan David).

Spurs would likely want to do a deal for the Wolves star for around £45m.

Report: Spurs could hijack Newcastle's pursuit of player Postecoglou is 'obsessed with'

Description

According to MSN, Tottenham Hotspur are expected to hijack Newcastle United’s pursuit of Jonathan David, with Ange Postecoglou extremely keen on adding the Lille star to his squad.

Spurs and Newcastle want Jonathan David

It was reported by TEAMtalk last week that Newcastle had stepped up their pursuit of David as the club look for a number nine to replace Callum Wilson, who is expected to leave St James’ Park.

It was revealed that the Magpies had identified the Canadian international as their top summer target and were ready to push ahead with a move for the player.

David recently finished 4th at the Copa America with Canada, playing against Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur in the third-place play-off.

Spurs to enter race for Jonathan David

However, MSN have now claimed that Tottenham have no intention of allowing Newcastle to have a free run at David and will try to hijack the move.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The outlet explains that Postecoglou is ‘obsessed’ with the idea of signing a top-class centre-forward and has identified David as someone who fits the bill.

It is revealed that the 24-year-old is a particularly lucrative target for Spurs since he is available for just £25m, which would mean that the club have enough funds to reinforce other areas of their squad this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Copa America now done, one would expect the race for David’s signature to heat up over the coming weeks.

It seems clear that the striker is Premier League-bound but it is anyone’s guess which club he will end up at, with a host of English sides seemingly chasing him.

Report: Tottenham rejected an £8.4m bid last week

Description

AC Milan finally made their opening offer for Tottenham right-back, Emerson Royal, after weeks of speculation but the first bid is half of what Tottenham have asked for.

Emerson has expressed his desire for regular game time

It feels as though AC Milan have been chasing Emerson Royal for an age with Fabrizio Romano announcing all the way back in mid-May that the Brazilian is one of many Spurs players expected to be heading for the exit door this summer.

Emerson himself has done his bit to try and hurry along a deal by stating to Globo in July ‘I’m not a player to sit on the bench. I want to play. If not here, I understand but let me go to a place where I can play’.

Postecoglou only started the Brazilian eleven times in the league last season with Pedro Porro clearly favoured ahead of the ex-Barcelona defender. (TransferMarkt)

It’s not a surprise Emerson has talked up a move away from N17 after Fabrizio Romano’s reports that the right-back has already agreed to a five-year deal with Milan, making personal terms not an issue.

MORE SPURS STORIES

AC Milan offered half of Tottenham’s valuation for Emerson

Alasdair Gold revealed on the 12th of July that AC Milan had made an opening formal bid for Emerson, however, the offer fell short of Tottenham’s €20 million (£16.8 million) valuation of the defender, also stating that Borussia Dortmund holds an interest in the player too.

A fresh update from Alasdair Gold has revealed that Milan offered only €10 million (£8.4 million) for Emerson.

The value of the bid was believed to have first been verbally rejected, only for Milan to formally offer the same amount, subsequently meaning yet another rejection, this time formally.

The large difference in valuations between the sides has reportedly caused a deal to go cold with no advancements on a move since Milan’s opening offer was rejected, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs Web opinion

I am in agreement with the opinion that Tottenham in general needs to be more ruthless with their sales and secure transfer fees to allow Postecoglou to move his squad in the direction he wishes, however, Milan’s opening offer is way below what Emerson is worth.

The 25-year-old has been capped ten times by Brazil and has experience with both Barcelona and Tottenham. Emerson still has two years remaining on his current deal, meaning, in my opinion, Spurs are well within their rights to reject such a low-ball offer.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have been on the search for a new sleeve partner this summer in what has been a busy few weeks on the sponsorship side of things.

Tottenham have a new sleeve sponsor

The club have today revealed they have partnered with crypto platform provider Kraken to become the new official Sleeve Partner of the Men’s and Women’s teams.

The deal sees Kraken take over from Cinch who took the mantle of becoming Tottenham’s first-ever sleeve partner in 2021, however, the online car retailer decided to trigger an early exit in their multi-year agreement with the Premier League side to end their sponsorship.

It has been a busy month for Spurs’ commercial department

Football.London reported earlier this month that the new sponsorship would dwarf the £10million per year which Cinch were paying Tottenham.

At the beginning of the month, Tottenham confirmed their partnership with BetMGM to become their new official Front of Training Wear Partner for the men’s team and betting partner.

MORE SPURS STORIES

BetMGM took over from grocery delivery company Getir, who were reported to owe Tottenham £5million having decided to quit the UK market (Sky News).

Ryan Norys, Chief Revenue Officer, Tottenham Hotspur, said: “As a Club that aims to drive innovation in everything we do, we are delighted to partner with yet another forward-thinking brand in Kraken – a true leader in its field, recognised throughout the web3 industry for its emphasis on education around the crypto ecosystem. We look forward to bringing our fans a range of exciting events and experiences throughout the course of the partnership.”

Throughout this partnership, it is claimed Kraken will engage with the Club’s global fan base through exclusive content, fan pop-ups, and provide behind-the-scenes access to both Kraken and Tottenham Hotspur events.

SpursWeb Opinion

While some fans may not agree with the choice of sponsorship partners, they have come into focus more in recent times due to the large amounts of money now playing a key part in complying with the Profit and Sustainability Rules and the ability to spend in the transfer market.
