Ange Postecoglou arrived at Tottenham Hotspur last summer and quickly started about rebuilding his squad and is expected to continue his work during the current window with hopefully plenty of incoming and departures.

AC Milan are mulling over Hojbjerg transfer

AC Milan are still considering whether or not to push ahead with a move for Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer,

While there has been a lot said and written about Milan’s talks with Tottenham over a potential deal for Emerson Royal over the last few weeks, many Italian outlets have also credited the Serie A giants with an interest in Hojbjerg.

This includes an update by TuttoMercatoWeb, who revealed late last month that the Rossoneri are admirers of the Dane, but Spurs’ €15m asking price and the midfielder’s €3.3m per year salary might prove to be a stumbling block.

Tottenham’s asking price for Hojbjerg could be an issue

MilanNews24 have now said that Hojbjerg is still very much on Paulo Fonseca’s shortlist after his name was ‘proposed’ to the Milan boss earlier this summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, the report adds that the club’s hierarchy ‘has not yet decided to sink the blow’ due to the high fee demanded by Tottenham for the player.

MilanNews also relay a quote from journalist Gianluigi Longari on SportItalia, where he suggests that Hojbjerg’s move to the San Siro could accelerate once Spurs bring more signings through the door.

The journalist is quoted as saying: “At the beginning of May we reported that the Rossoneri had also been offered the possibility of signing Hojbjerg.

“The Dane is not untouchable for Tottenham, but his price tag remains high at the moment.

“If Spurs were to complete some incoming signings, the discussion with Milan could be reinstated, after all his qualities are not to be questioned.”

Hojbjerg made the Tottenham starting eleven on just eight occasions in the Premier League last season and was brought off the bench 28 times having fallen behind the likes of Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur in the midfield pecking order (transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

One would expect Hojbjerg’s future to be sorted out within the next few weeks as neither Spurs nor the midfielder would want the saga to drag on.

At this point, it is unclear what the 28-year-old’s next destination is going to be, with none of the interested clubs appearing to have made an offer.

Report: Spurs could sign Bundesliga striker for £42m

Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a striker could go right down to the wire in the summer transfer market, but the North London club would be able to sign one of their targets for a fair price, even if they wait until nearer deadline day.

Frankfurt would sell Omar Marmoush this summer

The Lilywhites have been linked with a number of forwards so far this summer, but they could be able to snap up Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for a fee of £42m.

According to a report from SportBILD, the German side would be willing to let their star striker go and would accept an offer of around €50m (£42.6m), and they’d be happy to wait until later in the transfer window to make it happen, too.

It is thought such an offer would be welcomed by Frankfurt, who are set for a busy summer as they look to replace several players in their squad, all while dealing with financial restrictions.

The Bundesliga outfit reportedly have a €27m (£22.8m) deficit to make up in order to balance their books.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham are on the search for a striker

In light of this, Frankfurt expect “transfer attacks” to ensue this summer, with bids believed to be incoming from August right up until the transfer deadline.

Marmoush, who only signed for Frankfurt on a free transfer last summer, scored 17 goals in 41 games for the club last season (Transfermarkt).

Frankfurt believe interest in the 25-year-old is “slowly gaining momentum,” with particular attention coming from the Premier League.

BILD has previously claimed both Tottenham and Liverpool are interested in Marmoush, and Spurs have been cited again this time around.

Spurs Web Opinion

Omar Marmoush is a good player, and he would be a decent squad player for Spurs, but I do not believe he would be the elite level striker we need to lead our line.

I’d rather us pay £40m for Ivan Toney, who is a Premier League-proven forward and would ad the physicality to our attack which is desperately lacking.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed their Premier League clash against Newcastle United at the start of September will kick off in the early afternoon

St James’ Park has been a difficult venue for Spurs recently

The preparation for the new 2024/25 campaign has now officially begun, with the majority of the Tottenham squad now being put through their paces at the club’s Hotspur Way facility having returned for pre-season training last weekend.

We are now just a little over a month away from the start of the new season, with Spurs set to travel to the King Power Stadium to take on Premier League newcomers Leicester City on Monday, August 19 for their opening fixture.

They will host Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium five days later, before making the trip up to St James’ Park on September 1st.

Newcastle v Spurs kick-off time confirmed

It has now been announced that Spurs’ clash against the Magpies will kick-off at 1.30 pm on the Sunday.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs also have big clashes coming up against Arsenal and Manchester United later in the same month and it was confirmed last week that all three of those fixtures have been selected for TV broadcast in the UK.

St James’ Park has not been a happy hunting ground for Tottenham in recent times, having suffered respective 6-0 and 4-1 defeats on their last two visits.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would expect Tottenham to beat both Leicester and Everton, although a trip to a newly promoted side is never easy.

The first big test of the season for Postecoglou’s men will be the Newcastle clash and it will set the North London derby up nicely if we can emerge with three points from Tyneside.

Description

According to Sky Germany, Manchester City are now plotting a move to sign RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo, who has been heavily linked with a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

Dani Olmo is attracting interest this summer

A number of outlets over the past few months have backed Olmo to depart the Red Bull Arena this summer in search of a new challenge.

This includes a report from Sport BILD (via Sport Witness) back in May which stated that both Barcelona and Spurs were set to battle it out for the 26-year-old’s signature.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano subsequently claimed later in the same month that Bayern Munich were also eyeing a move for the Leipzig player as they look to add more firepower to their attack.

Man City enter race for Dani Olmo

Sky Germany have now revealed that Manchester City are the latest club to express an interest in the Spanish international, who is gearing up for the Euro 2024 final this Sunday.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The report claims that Leipzig will be willing to listen to offers for the attacking midfielder but they have no intention of letting him leave on the cheap.

The publication adds that the Bundesliga side have not been contacted yet by any club for Olmo, but that is soon expected to change.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the various transfer updates over the last few weeks, it does appear as if Spurs have abandoned their pursuit of Olmo and are now prioritising a deal for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and Rennes’ Desire Doue.

The print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (10/7/24) have revealed that AC Milan are still some way from reaching an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur over the transfer of Emerson Royal.

The Emerson Royal and AC Milan saga rumbles on

A number of Italian outlets appeared relatively confident until a few days ago that it was only a matter of time before Emerson Royal completed a switch to Milan.

This includes Corriere Dello Sport (via TuttoMercatoWeb), who claimed on Monday that the Rossoneri were readying a bid of around €15m after seeing their opening offer of €12m turned down by Spurs.

The report claimed that negotiations are expected to accelerate following the second bid, with a deal potentially set to be agreed in a matter of days.

However, Gazzetta have now suggested that there is still a chance the move could fall through, with an agreement not being close at the moment.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Both clubs appear to be some distance away from agreeing a fee

It is revealed that AC Milan have offered just ‘a little more’ than €10m for the Brazilian, while Tottenham are continuing to demand double that fee.

The publication adds that ‘the next appointment’ between the two clubs is key to finding out if an agreement is feasible, with one of the two parties needing to cave in.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Tottenham might be willing to meet Milan in the middle, they would not want to give a huge discount to the Italian side as there is not going to be any shortage of interest in Emerson over the next few weeks.

rated German has met Tottenham ‘three times for talks’

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have garnered a track record of attracting promising young talent in recent times with a number of talented players having arrived at the club.

Tottenham have been attracting promising talent to the club

Jude Soonsup-Bell, Will Lankshear, Ashley Phillips and George Feeney are among those to have been brought to Hotspur Way to push for a place in the first team.

Lum, who currently plays for Hertha Berlin’s under-19’s, despite being just sixteen years of age, a feat that has caught the eye of both Hertha’s first-team coaching set-up as well as talent spotters within Tottenham Hotspur.

BILD in Germany has revealed that Lum has caught the eye ahead of Hertha Berlin’s 2024/25 season, where the club aims to return to the Bundesliga after slumping to a disappointing 9th place finish in Bundesliga 2 last season.

New manager, Christian Fiel, was reportedly amazed by the teenager’s ability in first-team training sessions with such displays making it possible that the defensive midfielder, at the very least, continues to train with his first team next season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham aren’t the only club interested in Lum

BILD’s report also revealed that Spurs had met with Boris Lum not just once, but three times over a potential switch to North London, even visiting Hotspur Way and watching the Spurs first team play live at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As with any top youth talent, there is plenty of interest in Lum, with European giants such as Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Ajax all watching the 16-year-old closely.

Lum currently has two years remaining on his deal with Hertha, but it is believed that his deal contains a €5 million release clause, leaving the door ajar for the host of interested clubs to snatch the teen away from the capital.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s always hard to judge with youth players how their careers will take shape, but the fact that Lum is playing three years above his age both nationally and at club level is undoubtedly a telling sign that the midfielder has plenty of talent.

His next move will be crucial though as to how grounded he stays and motivated to reach his potential, Spurs could be an attractive proposition given the youth team’s recent success and the plethora of young players that have been signed as of late.

Description

According to Relevo reporter Matteo Moretto, there is not a significant distance between Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan as talks over Emerson Royal continue between the two clubs.

AC Milan and Spurs are continuing talks

Wednesday’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) suggested that AC Milan are far from certain to clinch a deal for Emerson Royal as they had not come close to meeting Spurs’ valuation of the defender.

The outlet explained that the Rossoneri are only willing to offer a little more than €10m (£8.4m) for the right-back while Tottenham continue to ask for double that fee.

The report suggested that the next meeting between the two parties could be decisive in the deal, with one of the two clubs needing to soften their stance.

The South American has had to contend for limited first-team football last season with Ange Postecoglou preferring Pedro Porro at right-back.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Emerson Royal’s future continues to attract headlines

Moretto has now taken to social media to state that the two parties are only ‘slightly distant’ on the transfer fee following their latest discussion.

In fact, it is revealed the Rossoneri are willing to offer €15m (£12.6m) for Emerson, which is only €5m (£4.2m) short of the fee that the Lilywhites are demanding.

The former Real Betis man is thought to have reached a full agreement on personal terms with the Serie A giants, with negotiations between the two clubs set to continue over the next few days.

Spurs Web Opinion

A difference of €5m is not an insurmountable amount and it is conceivable that the two sides can meet halfway over the coming days.

Agreeing to a deal with performance or appearance-based add-ons could potentially help to get this transfer over the line.

Coach suggests Man Utd should consider spending big on Tottenham star this summer

Description

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has suggested the Red Devils should consider an attempt to sign Micky van de Ven from Tottenham Hotspur rather than Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.

Manchester United are on the hunt for a central defender

There is plenty of excitement at Tottenham about van de Ven’s potential, with the Dutchman winning many admirers in his debut Premier League season following his switch from Wolfsburg 12 months ago.

Ange Postecoglou is certainly convinced that the 23-year-old can evolve into one of the best in the world, telling Spurs’ official website earlier this year that the defender has ‘no ceiling’.

Apart from his technical quality, raw pace and composure, Van de Ven has also showcased his versatility, having primarily operated as a left-back for the Netherlands at the Euros.

Meulensteen, who served as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant at Old Trafford, has urged Erik ten Hag’s men to look beyond De Ligt and spend big on the Tottenham defender this summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Micky van de Ven had an impressive first season at Tottenham

Referring to United’s rumoured interest in the Bayern centre-back, the 60-year-old told Free Bets (as relayed by The Metro): “They [United] do need another centre half, but it surprises me it’s a right-footed one.

“I’ve been very impressed with Micky Van de Ven for Tottenham Hotspur, he’s a left-footed player and very quick.

“I’m not saying it wouldn’t cost you a lot of money and dealing with Tottenham is difficult.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If even Man Utd are somehow able to convince Levy to sell Van de Ven (which we know is impossible), there is no reason for the Dutchman to agree to the move.

Ange Postecoglou’s project at Spurs seems far more exciting at the moment than that of ten Hag’s at Unite.

Description

Emerson Royal has now admitted that he is likely to be looking for an exit route from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, revealing that he has already communicated his desire for regular football to Ange Postecoglou.

Pedro Porro was Tottenham’s first-choice right-back last season

With many expecting Tottenham’s newest signing, Archie Gray, to be Pedro Porro‘s understudy at right-back next season, the writing seems on the wall for Emerson, whose three-year spell at the North London club could come to an end this summer.

The 25-year-old failed to make the Brazil squad for Copa America this summer and he is now back in pre-season training at Hotspur Way.

The former Real Betis man confessed that his main aim is to get back into the Selecao set-up, which is why he wants to play regularly at club level and held talks with the Tottenham manager over his dissatisfaction.

Emerson Royal spoke to Postecoglou about lack of football

Emerson told Globo about his future: “I’ve always made it clear. I’m very competitive and it bothers me a lot to be left on the bench. I was upset and I told the coach about it.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I’ve always been very professional, put the most intensity into training, but this situation doesn’t work for me. I don’t know what my future will be. I am not a player who sits on the bench.

“I want to play, and if it’s not here, I understand that, but I want to go somewhere I can play. I want to play for the Brazil team and that is unlikely if I don’t play at club level, so I have to look for new places.”

It has been widely reported over the last couple of weeks that Emerson is keen to complete a switch to the San Siro as AC Milan and Tottenham hold negotiations over a deal for the defender (Calciomercato).

When asked about the Serie A side’s interest, the full-back said: “It is very special, knowing that teams of this magnitude want me. Milan is a real reference point for us Brazilians.

“I don’t know what the future holds. I just hope I can get back to playing and getting into the national team.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One can certainly understand Emerson’s keenness to join Milan but Tottenham have no reason to offer the Italian side a major discount.

Spurs will be hoping that other top sides enter the race and force the Rossoneri to increase their offer.

Description

According to Football Italia, Napoli have successfully seen off competition from Tottenham Hotspur and two more clubs to land Alessandro Buongiorno from Torino.

Buongiorno is set to seal move to Napoli

Buongiorno has emerged as one of the most reliable central defenders in Serie A over the last couple of years and earlier this summer, it was widely reported that Tottenham were one of the clubs circling over the player (Tuttosport via Sport Witness).

However, the Italian international is now seemingly on his way to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, with Football Italia claiming that Napoli have agreed a deal worth €35m plus €5m in add-ons for the 25-year-old.

The report states that Antonio Conte‘s side beat competition from Spurs, Juventus and Inter Milan to land the Torino player, who ‘only had his sights on Naples’.

Defender wanted Napoli move despite interest from the likes of Spurs

The outlet adds that the centre-back will now undergo his medical over the coming days before signing a long-term contract with the club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

This information has also been backed up by Fabrizio Romano, who has revealed that Buongiorno will sign a five-year contract with Napoli, with his contract set to include a €70m release clause that can be activated from June 2027.

Spurs Web Opinion

A deal from Buongiorno never looked likely from the start for Tottenham while the Calafiori pursuit was always going to prove difficult on the back of the performances he delivered at Euro 2024.
