Alasdair Gold has revealed in his latest column on Football London that Ange Postecoglou expects Brennan Johnson to shine during the upcoming campaign.

Postecoglou expects Brennan Johnson to shine next season

While Johnson was widely seen as an exciting young prospect at Forest, some eyebrows were raised when Tottenham paid £47.5 million (Sky Sports) to bring him to the club a year ago.

During the winger’s first few months at Spurs, it appeared as if he was struggling to cope with the weight of the big price tag as he seemed to be trying too hard and struggled to make decisive contributions in the final third.

However, the 23-year-old got better as the season went on, eventually finishing with 15 goal contributions in the Premier League.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Brennan Johnson has a high ceiling at Tottenham

Gold has now revealed that Postecoglou expects the winger to potentially do even better in his second season at North London.

The journalist states that the Australian coach has high hopes for the Wales international and believes in his qualities.

He also adds that there is a lot of belief internally at Hotspur Way that Johnson is ‘going to improve’ over the next couple of years.

Spurs Web Opinion

The most exciting thing about the current Spurs side is the fact that the likes of Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson, Pape Sarr, Micky van de Ven and perhaps even Pedro Porro are not at their peak yet and are going to continue to get better over the next few seasons.

Brennan Johnson should really be aiming for double digits in goals and assists across all competitions next season.

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham Hotspur will look at activating Eberechi Eze’s release clause in order to bring him to the club this summer.

Spurs want Eberechi Eze this summer

Over the past few weeks, the speculation linking Eze with a move to Spurs has been intensifying, with a number of outlets suggesting that the England international has emerged as a top target for Ange Postecoglou’s men (Football.London).

It was asserted by TBR Football on Tuesday that Tottenham had even reached out to the 25-year-old about a transfer and that the player was open to the move.

However, it was explained that the Lilywhites would have to meet the attacking midfielder’s release clause to prise him away from Selhurst Park.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham will look at activating Eze’s release clause

According to talkSPORT, the North London club will look at activating the release clause in order to bring Eze to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The report says that Spurs’ interest in the former QPR star is ‘serious’ and they may be willing to pay the £60m fee in his clause once they move some players off their wage bill over the coming weeks.

As such, it looks like this could be a sage that runs on and on this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham may have to shell out a club-record fee to land Eze this summer and it sounds like the club are willing to do that.

My fear is that the likes of Man City and Arsenal would show concrete interest in the Palace star, which might potentially turn his head.

Report: Spurs will have to convince 27

According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham are continuing to plot a move to re-sign Kyle Walker-Peters but they would have to convince the right-back about his role in N17.

Tottenham want a new right-back this summer

The report says that Spurs are considering multiple options across Europe as they search for a backup to Pedro Porro, with Emerson Royal expected to depart the club.

It is revealed that Monoca’s £34m valuation of Vanderson is deemed too high by Tottenham this summer.

Meanwhile, the Lilywhites also do not want to get involved in a bidding war with Liverpool for Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Could Kyle Walker-Peters return to Tottenham?

They could thus turn their attention to Walker-Peters, with the North London side thought to be willing to re-sign the player they sold to Southampton in 2020.

With the 27-year-old having just one year left on his deal at St Mary’s, he is allegedly seen as a ‘good low-cost option’ by Tottenham while the fact that he is considered homegrown and club-trained also makes him an attractive target.

However, the publication adds that the England international would have to be convinced about his role in Ange Postecoglou’s squad before he gives the green light to the move.

Spurs Web Opinion

Walker-Peters would not want to return to Tottenham to warm the bench and will likely ask for assurances of game time, which Postecoglou might not be able to offer him.

The 27-year-old is not going to have any shortage of suitors this summer and a deal might thus be difficult for Spurs to pull off.

La Liga sporting director says there is 'a remote option' they could sign Spurs player

Real Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo has confirmed that they want to re-sign Giovani Lo Celso this summer but admitted that the move is still a long way from being a reality at the moment.

Giovani Lo Celso is linked with a Tottenham exit

With Lo Celso having just a year left on his contract at Tottenham, it has been widely reported over recent months that the midfielder is expected to head out of the door at Hotspur Way this summer (The Times).

A return to Beits continues to be mooted as a possibility for the player, with his former side alleged to be quite keen on securing his services.

This claim was made earlier this month by Estadio Deportivo, who stated that the La Liga club are in constant contact with the Spurs star’s entourage, with the Argentine said to be keen on a return.

It was subsequently reported by the print edition of ABC Sevilla (via Sport Witness) that Betis have also held regular talks with Tottenham over a deal.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Lo Celso to Real Betis is a ‘remote option’

However, it was explained that the 28-year-old’s salary demands might be a potential stumbling block in the club’s efforts to take him back to the Estadio Benito Villamarin.

Fajardo has now spoken about the Spanish side’s pursuit of Lo Celso but he hinted that the player is far from certain to return to the club.

When asked about Lo Celso, the Betis chief told Mucho Deporte: “He is a Tottenham player, and we owe respect to his entity. He left very good memories here, but it is still a remote option.”

Meanwhile, the club’s vice president Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan indicated that they are not in a hurry to make any signings.

He stated: “It is an important market for our growth. A beautiful and exciting market. There is a roadmap. The objective is to improve the squad, to face the season in the best possible way.

“We face this market in a clearer way. There are two positions to cover. That of the centre back and the left side. That makes us start there. For the rest, operation by operation based on economic limitations. But there is a good base and that allows us to work without haste and panic.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Lo Celso has likely put off any talks over his future until after the Copa America.

The likes of Lazio and Betis might be waiting for the tournament to get over before making a concrete move for the midfielder.

Genoa CEO directly addresses transfer rumour

Genoa CEO Andres Blazquez has admitted that while the Serie A club would like to sign Djed Spence permanently, the deal is out of their hands.

Genoa wanted to re-sign Djed Spence from Spurs

Until a week ago, it looked like Spence was nailed on to complete a permanent switch to Genoa on the back of his loan spell at the club last season.

In fact, some reports even suggested last week that it was only a matter of time before the deal was agreed between the Italian and English club (GiveMeSport).

However, things seem to have changed completely over the last few days, with various sources now suggesting that Genoa are unable to pay the fee that Tottenham are demanding for the right-back.

This includes a recent update by Sacha Tavolieri, who stated that Spurs’ demands of €7m (£6m) are excessive for the Serie A side, who could turn their attention to other alternatives such as Napoli right-back Alessandro Zanoli.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spence is too expensive for Genoa

Blazquez has now revealed that Genoa want to deal while the 23-year-old also wants to return to the Luigi Ferraris Stadium but he explained that the transfer completely depends on Spurs.

He told Telenord: “I’d be happy to keep Djed Spence at the club, he was doing great here on loan… but it doesn’t depend on us. Spence would be happy to stay at Genoa. But Tottenham are a rich club.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Tottenham might have put the brakes on the negotiation with Genoa after being approached by a couple of Premier League sides over a deal for Spence.

Perhaps the Lilywhites now sense they can get around £10m for the 23-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur are known to be looking for a new, elite-level striker this summer, and it seems the club may have already made an approach for one of the very best in the Premier League.

Tottenham make ambitious bid for Newcastle man

According to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio, Newcastle United desperately need to sell a player before the end of the month to get their finances in order to appease Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

It is claimed Tottenham have been trying to take advantage of that situation by attempting to prise Alexander Isak away from the Magpies.

Newcastle are thought to have “received offers” for the Swedish striker, one of which came from Spurs. The exact nature and value of the proposal is unknown, but it is believed Newcastle were “offered Richarlison plus a balance.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Newcastle reject Tottenham bid for Alexander Isak

The offer was rejected and it remains to be seen whether Spurs will return with an improved deal in the future.

It has previously been suggested that Isak would be too expensive (The Athletic) and there is even a belief he will be signing a new contract with Newcastle in the near future (TBR Football).

However, according to Football Insider, Tottenham regard the 24-year-old as the perfect ‘marquee’ signing they have been looking for and it is thought the Lilywhites would be willing to break their transfer record to make it happen.

Isak scored 25 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies last season, 21 of which came in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

Obviously, Newcastle are going to be very reluctant to let Isak go, but we have to keep going back for him and get this deal done.

I’d rather us keep Richarlison, too, but if he has to go to make the transfer happen, then so be it. Isak would transform our team.

Dejan Kulusevski admitted that he is excited about Lucas Bergvall’s impending arrival at Tottenham and that he is looking forward to seeing how the midfielder adapts to life in the Premier League.

Lucas Bergvall will arrive at Tottenham soon

While Tottenham’s capture of Bergvall was hailed as a real coup back in January, the youngster’s outstanding displays for Djurgardens over the last few months have only made Spurs fans even more excited ahead of the teenager’s arrival at Hotspur Way this summer.

The Sweden international is seen by many back in his home country as a potentially generational talent but there is no doubt that adapting to the physicality and intensity of the Premier League will be a huge challenge for the midfielder.

Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe revealed on The Last World on Spurs podcast last week that the Lilywhites do not plan on sending the 18-year-old out on loan, with the newcomer expected to have a first-team role next season.

Dejan Kulusevski is looking forward to a Swedish link-up

His compatriot Kulusevski has now remarked that he is excited to link up with Bergvall, admitting that it will be special to share the dressing room with a fellow Swede.

When asked if he has been in regular contact with the young midfielder, the Tottenham winger told Aftonbladet: “No, but it is clear that I’m happy that I’ll have a Swedish teammate and be there for him and help him as much as possible because it’s a big step he is taking.

“It will be special, it will be fun. It’s nice to be able to speak Swedish too and talk to Lucas. We still have the same culture and the same background. It will be fun to talk to him and see his reaction to coming to the Premier League.”

When asked what advice he would give to Bergvall ahead of his move, Kulusevski responded: “There is a lot of stuff, see the big perspective day by day. Get better and don’t think too much, but just think about getting better every day.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It cannot be easy for an 18-year-old to move away from home and to adapt to a new country and a completely new footballing culture but Kulusevski’s presence at Spurs should ease the bedding-in process a little for Bergvall.

Report: Spurs are locked in a four

According to The Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in the thick of a major four-way battle for the signature of Lille striker Jonathan David this summer.

Tottenham are interested in Lille’s Jonathan David

Several outlets over the last couple of weeks have talked up Tottenham’s interest in David, with Football Insider even claiming a few days ago that the Lilywhites have already reached out to the striker’s representatives regarding a summer switch to N17.

The Guardian have now become the latest publication to report on the striker’s future, explaining that Tottenham are keen to add more variety to their attack and have identified the Lille star as a target.

It is explained that many in the Spurs’ recruitment department are big admirers of David and that the North London club have already begun exploring a move for him.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs have competition for Jonathan David

However, it is revealed that they have to see off competition from Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham to land the centre-forward.

Like Spurs, the other three Premier League sides have also allegedly made checks on the Canadian international’s availability over recent days.

The report explains that West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is particularly keen on landing the player since he wants to add more firepower to his frontline.

However, it is stated that David’s wage demands might be a roadblock for the Hammers, who are first expected to sign defensive reinforcements before pushing ahead with a move for the Lille star.

The Guardian assert that since the former Gent man only has a year left to run on his deal, he could be available for a fee as low as £20m.

Spurs Web Opinion

A player of David’s quality and goalscoring pedigree is rarely available for such a modest fee, which is why it is not surprising to see a whole host of clubs joining the queue for the Canadian’s signature.

It is perhaps up to Ange to work his magic and convince the striker that the current Tottenham set-up would be the ideal fit for the player of his attributes.

Alan Hutton thinks Spurs are about to trigger contract clause

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Alan Hutton is confident that Tottenham will soon activate the option to extend Son Heung-min’s contract by one year.

When does Heung-min Son’s contract run out at Spurs?

Son’s current deal at Spurs runs out in 2025 but Tottenham do have an option to extend the deal by a further year.

The 31-year-old continues to be linked with a move away from the North London club, with TEAMtalk suggesting a couple of weeks ago that Al-Ittihad could make a big-money move for the Tottenham man if they cannot push through a deal for Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

However, Son has emphatically denied those rumours, insisting that he has no intention of leaving the Premier League at this stage of his career (The Mirror).

Several outlets have reported over the last few months that the North London club plan on first activating the option to extend the South Koean’s contract until 2026 before opening talks with him this summer about a new long-term deal (The Athletic).

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs are expected to extend Son’s contract

Hutton is confident that the option will be exercised by Spurs sooner rather than later.

When asked about Son’s future and the clause in his contract, the former Tottenham right-back told Football Insider: “I think the club has put the clause in his contract to safeguard them. They’ll go and take that option up. It’s happening, 100%.

“He’s huge for Spurs. That will give you two seasons – and if someone comes in for him in that time, you can get a fee that Tottenham feel he is valued at.

“I think he’s still got a lot to give, whether that’s in the striker position or from the left. “We don’t know what Tottenham are going to do with the striker position.

“We’ve had the rumours linking them with Toney, and I don’t know how true that is. We need options. But Son is the captain, and to let him run down his contract – I don’t think it makes sense for anybody.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The only reason for Tottenham to activate the clause is to improve their bargaining position while sitting down with the forward’s representatives for talks over a new deal.

I fully expect the Lilywhites to tie the forward down to a new three or four-year deal before the start of the new season.

Description

It has now emerged that Tottenham Hotspur are willing to allow academy forward Jude Soonsup-Bell to leave on loan this summer as the interest in his services continues to mount.

Who is Jude Soonsup-Bell?

Soonsup-Bell arrived at Spurs from Chelsea with a big reputation 18 months ago and he has won many admirers at Hotspur Way since his move.

The versatile forward, who is a number nine by trade but can also play out wide, had an impressive season for the Under-21s last term, scoring 10 goals and registering a further seven assists as Spurs won the Premier League 2 title last season.

The 20-year-old is still waiting to make his senior bow for Ange Postecoglou’s side but that might not be too far away if he keeps progressing at his current pace.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham are set to loan out Jude Soonsup-Bell

According to The Mirror transfer blog update (14:22 25/6/24), a few clubs showed interest in signing Soonsup-Bell on loan in January but Tottenham turned down those approaches at the time.

It is revealed that several EFL clubs are once again showing ‘strong interest’ in signing the striker on a temporary deal ahead of the 2024-25 season.

The report explains that Tottenham are now willing to allow the forward to leave on loan so that he can get some competitive senior football under his belt.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Jamie Donley and Will Lankshear potentially set to stay at the club and perhaps get some minutes in the Europa League, I am not surprised that the club are willing to allow Soonsup-Bell to leave on loan.

Plenty of the top Spurs youngsters from last season will probably end up out on loan. I expect Mikey Moore to stay at Tottenham for significant first-team minutes though.
