Tottenham Must Use Champions League Windfall to Sign £325,000-a-Week Star - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur's win in the Europa League final means that they'll have a huge windfall ahead of next season's Champions League campaign - and they should look to sign one out-of-contract star to massively bolster their ranks in north London.

The 1-0 win over Manchester United in Bilbao means that the Lilywhites will play Champions League football for the first time in three seasons next year, despite their dismal Premier League campaign which sees them currently sat in 17th in the table.

Opinion: Tottenham Must Sign Leroy Sane amid Champions League Windfall

The Germany international would be just the calibre of signing for progression

Many stars will be linked over the coming weeks, and former targets who became unattainable thanks to their poor form will likely crop back onto their shortlist. But one star they should go for is Leroy Sane, with his time at Bayern Munich set to come to an end in the coming weeks.

Sane has previously torn up the Premier League for Manchester City, and he'd evidently adept to the league if he were to return to England. 90 Premier League appearances under Pep Guardiola saw him register 25 goals and 30 assists, with the Etihad Stadium outfit winning two top-flight titles from three attempts in that time, including their 100-point season in 2017/18.

His current form at Bayern hasn't wavered, either. Recording two double-figure league hauls for City, this season has marked Sane's first-ever 10-goal haul in his home nation, effectively seeing him hit his prime on German soil - and with his contract up, there is no better time to make a move for the speedy winger.

Sane has been linked with other Premier League clubs, including top-two Liverpool and Arsenal, but they are flush with starting wingers such as Bukayo Saka and Mohamed Salah, amongst others. Tottenham, meanwhile, have an array of wide talent, but none compare to Sane - and so he would be guaranteed first-team minutes in the capital.

He's not the only player Spurs could sign from the Bundesliga champions in the summer. Current loan star Mathys Tel joined in January, and he has a reported £45million option to buy clause in his deal - and although he hasn't been as good as expected, landing the 20-year-old would mark good business for Spurs - and with a proper pre-season under his belt, the club could have Son Heung-min, Wilson Odobert, Tel and Sane lining up for them next season which shows massively impressive depth.

It's likely that Sane will have huge wage demands as he's estimated to be on a contract of around £325,000-per-week at Bayern - but with their financial windfall and the potential departures of Richarlison, Manor Solomon, Bryan Gil and Timo Werner, money will be available to bring him in.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Leroy Sane has 14 goals in 69 games for Germany.

Ange Postecoglou will need experience and quality alongside his squad of top young players in the coming weeks, and Sane would certainly add to that, alongside his 73 appearances at Champions League level seeing him record 42 goal contributions for Bayern, Schalke and City.

If he joins, it could see Spurs put their dreadful domestic campaign behind them with a view to success in the coming years.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are adamant that securing Champions League qualification has boosted their hopes of being able to fight off stiff competition and convince Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi to embark on a fresh challenge at Hotspur Way ahead of next season, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

Although Kevin Danso is on course to become a permanent member of Spurs' squad in the coming days, thanks to the north Londoners having a £20.9million obligation to buy him from Lens at the end of his initial loan spell, boss Ange Postecoglou remains in the market for another option at the heart of the backline.

A first half goal from Brennan Johnson ended Tottenham's 17-year wait for silverware earlier this week, with Manchester United being seen off in the Europa League final, and there is determination to show plenty of ambition when the transfer window reopens for business in the summer.

Spurs Hoping Trophy Win Can Convince Guehi

North Londoners remain interested after failed bid earlier this year

Tottenham have fresh confidence over their ability to win the race to sign Guehi after adding to their trophy cabinet, according to GMS sources, and there have been indications that he would be open to completing a switch if it becomes clear that Crystal Palace are prepared to sanction his departure.

Spurs are long-term admirers of the central defender and, having been frustrated when a £70million proposal was rejected by his current employers midway through the campaign, are eager to eventually get the deal over the line as they aim to strengthen their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.

GMS sources have been informed that Guehi, who has enjoyed a productive campaign and got his hands on the FA Cup last week, would be interested in listening to what Tottenham have to say in the event of Crystal Palace showing a willingness to cash in during the summer transfer window.

The England international is preparing to enter the final 12 months of a contract which allows him to pocket £50,000-per-week, resulting in Spurs and other suitors sniffing a potential opportunity to pounce as it has been acknowledged that their Premier League rivals will not want to run the risk of him walking away as a free agent at the end of next term.

Tottenham are certain that winning a major trophy and being able to offer Champions League action has put them in a much better position to land Guehi, GMS sources have learned, and there is complete confidence in the overall project thanks to having a youthful squad along with a stadium and training facilities that counterparts envy.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Marc Guehi won six ground duels and made five clearances during Crystal Palace's victory at Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month

Guehi's Price Tag Set to Drop Due to Contract

Central defender in line to become free agent at end of next season

GMS sources have been informed that Guehi's contract situation has resulted in Tottenham having a serious chance of being able to recruit him for less than the offer they made a matter of months ago, with Crystal Palace likely to entertain bids which fall short of £50million as they aim to avoid a situation where he leaves as a free agent.

But Spurs are not the only side chasing the 24-year-old, who has been described as a 'superstar' by Eagles chairman Steve Parish, resulting in Postecoglou being on course to face stiff competition for an agreement if he remains in the hot-seat after tasting Europa League glory.

Tottenham have identified centre-back as a key position they want to strengthen, GMS sources understand, but Guehi is calm over his future as domestic rivals Newcastle United and Chelsea have also been credited with a serious interest and Liverpool have been keeping tabs on his situation.

Although GMS sources recently revealed that Spurs are expected to miss out on signing Eberechi Eze, there remains a desire to raid Crystal Palace as they are aiming to lure his Selhurst Park teammate across the capital as they prepare to feature in Europe's elite club competition.

Description

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro is fit to play in the Europa League final and will start for the Red Devils, according to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic.

The £52m centre-back has had his struggles with injury since joining Man United in the summer transfer window but when fit, has been a strong performer for the Red Devils. Yoro missed the club's latest Premier League clash, when they lost 1-0 at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea and the defender was a doubt for Man United's major mid-week fixture.

According to Whitwell, however, the defender will be starting for Man United when, on Wednesday night, they face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final. Spurs will be desperate to end their 17-year trophy drought, but Yoro's return to the fold will serve as a massive boost for manager Ruben Amorim.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are not expected to stump up the cash required to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace and are on course to turn their attentions towards luring Lyon star Rayan Cherki to Hotspur Way during the summer transfer window instead, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

The Europa League finalists will have to fork out £20.9million in order to make Kevin Danso a permanent member of their squad in the coming weeks, thanks to the terms agreed with Lens when he initially joined on loan, but Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou and influential figures behind the scenes are in the market for attacking reinforcements.

Fresh creativity is wanted by Tottenham and, despite having an option to buy Mathys Tel for £45million from Bayern Munich, Eze and Cherki have been on the north Londoners' radar after deciding to make plans to upgrade a side which could end their lengthy wait for silverware on Wednesday.

Spurs In Line to Miss Out on Sealing Eze Deal

England international expected to be out of north Londoners' reach

Tottenham are facing frustration in their pursuit of Eze, according to GMS sources, as there is an internal feeling that they will not have the finances to get the deal over the line even though there is already an awareness of what it would take to force Premier League counterparts Crystal Palace into agreeing terms.

The England international has a £68million release clause written into his Selhurst Park contract, which will reactivate when the transfer window officially reopens for business, meaning the Eagles are in serious danger of being left helpless if Spurs or another interested party ups the ante in their pursuit.

GMS sources have been informed that Tottenham are fearful that Eze, who showcased his ability by putting in a match-winning performance for Crystal Palace in their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City last weekend, will be out of their reach and there is little chance of paying what it will take to recruit him.

The 26-year-old playmaker has been described as a 'superstar' by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher and, having been long-term admirers, Spurs have been keeping tabs on his current situation ahead of potentially heading to the negotiating table with a formal offer during the summer.

Tottenham have decided to continue looking into better value deals as they seek an exciting attacker and creator ahead of next season, GMS sources have learned, and that has resulted in Cherki being firmly in their sights as an alternative to Eze as preparations are made to invest in the squad.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Eberechi Eze made two key passes and got his name on the scoresheet despite being restricted to a nine-minute substitute appearance for Crystal Palace against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this week

Meetings Held With Cherki's Representatives

Capital club attempting to discover terms winger wants to join

GMS sources have been told that Tottenham have already held initial meetings with Cherki's representatives to uncover more on his situation and the terms he will be looking for, but they will only have a better idea of what they can offer him after the Europa League final against Manchester United.

Ligue 1 outfit Lyon have confirmed that the winger - who has been labelled as a 'future Ballon d'Or winner - will leave the Groupama Stadium ahead of next season, giving Spurs additional hope of being able to secure his services, and the north Londoners have intensified their pursuit by entering conversations with his entourage over a potential switch.

Tottenham have declared their interest at a time when Cherki is continuing to assess his potential landing spots, GMS sources understand, and Crystal Palace could prove to be among the capital club's leading competitors for his signature as they prepare for a campaign which will include European action.

GMS sources recently revealed that Spurs are expecting to quickly tie Mikey Moore down to a new contract, which would end Borussia Dortmund's attempts to tempt him to the Bundesliga in the coming months, but there remains an eagerness to bring in fresh competition for a regular starting berth on the left flank.

Who Fans of Every Premier League Club Are Supporting in Europa League Final

Study reveals who fans of every Premier League club are supporting in the Europa League final - GiveMeSport
Description

Neither Manchester United nor Tottenham Hotspur have impressed on the domestic stage – but one of the Premier League sides will secure Champions League action for the 2025/26 campaign by winning their Europa League final showdown.

Reigning victorious in Bilbao on Wednesday night would merely paper over the cracks for both sides – but it would offer, despite their dismal domestic campaigns, a route into Europe’s top table. But who do fans of other clubs want to win the all-English affair?

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: In 2024/25 alone, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have faced one another on three occasions. Spurs have won all three.

The folks over at The Athletic used a series of polls to ask their readers – those who support one of the other 18 clubs in England’s top flight – who they would rather win if they had to choose one of Manchester United, 16th in the Premier League table, and Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently placed just below in 17th.

Europa League Final: Who Fans of Other Clubs Want to Win

Arsenal in favour of Man Utd; Liverpool fans want Spurs to win

There have been recent calls to suggest that neither side, by virtue of their woeful positions in the Premier League table, should be issued Champions League football for next season – with supporters from other clubs, understandably, peeved.

Alas, one of Manchester United or Spurs will be rubbing shoulders with the continent’s big dogs in 2025/26.

Of the thousands that answered The Athletic’s poll, a total of 68.4 were in favour of Ange Postecoglou – who has claimed to always win silverware in his second season at every club he’s been at throughout his managerial career – coming out on top.

A victory for the Londoners is the preference for fans of 14 of the other sides that occupy the top tier. Only Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham United – due to their proximity to Spurs – voted in favour of the out-of-sorts Red Devils.

Incredibly, there was just one fanbase who were equally split down the middle. Brentford, based in west London, voted evenly for both clubs, while – perhaps unsurprisingly – Liverpool were 95.9% in favour of Spurs lifting gold in Spain.

Supporters of Wolverhampton Wanderers, too, will not be pleased if Lisbon-born Ruben Amorim – widely regarded as one of the best young managers in world football – secures silverware in his maiden campaign, as 95.7% of the Molineux faithful voted in favour of a Red Devils defeat.

Maybe, just maybe, Matheus Cunha’s inevitable move to Old Trafford might have something to do with that.

Not a single voter of an Everton persuasion was willing to entertain the prospect of the Manchester-based outfit getting their hands on the trophy, while just shy of 50% - 48.1%, to be precise – of the Chelsea fanbase would like to see Spurs win.

Elsewhere, 93/1% of the Magpies faithful are hoping that Amorim's men fall the final hurdle in the Basque Country. That was expected, however, given that Newcastle United are widely regarded as one of Manchester United's biggest rivals alongside Liverpool and Leeds United.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in appointing Fulham boss Marco Silva as Ange Postecoglou’s successor this summer, talkSPORT has revealed.

The Lilywhites reportedly retain interest in the Portuguese tactician’s services, despite being heavily linked with a move for former Ajax coach Francesco Farioli this week.

Silva recently rejected a big-money move to Saudi Arabia and wants to continue his career in Europe after yet another impressive campaign at Craven Cottage.

Fulham are on course to finish mid-table for a third season in a row under the Portuguese manager, as they sit 10th in the Premier League with one game to play.

Tottenham Retain Marco Silva Interest

He is an alternative to Francesco Farioli

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham see Silva as an alternative to Farioli, who is highly admired by their former managing director of football, Fabio Paratici.

The 52-year-old executive, who is closing in on a return to North London, is reportedly a huge fan of his Italian compatriot, now a free agent after leaving Ajax this week.

Silva, meanwhile, has a year left on his deal with Fulham and has been heavily linked with a departure in recent months amid growing interest from Tottenham.

The ‘genius’ manager, who won titles in Greece and Portugal, was even named among the ‘main names’ to replace Postecoglou at Spurs by Fabrizio Romano last month, alongside Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Tottenham have won just 11 out of 37 league games this season.

Tottenham could part ways with Postecoglou regardless of the Europa League final outcome on Wednesday amid their woeful domestic campaign.

The Lilywhites are on course for their worst-ever Premier League finish, as they sit 17th in the table with one game to go, having won just once in their last 11 matches.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will go head-to-head in a crucial clash in the Europa League final on Wednesday night. Floods of supporters from both sides will already be in Bilbao, enjoying themselves as they get ready for the game.

Ange Postecoglou and Ruben Amorim's sides have struggled in the Premier League this season, particularly over the last few months with focus on Europe, sitting 17th and 16th in the table respectively.

It's an opportunity for either side to salvage something from a disastrous campaign, with the pressure mounting up on both managers heading into the game.

Tottenham Team News

Maddison to miss out

Postecoglou will be without a host of players heading into this crucial encounter. The Tottenham boss will have a decision to make in the attacking midfield position, with James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall, and Dejan Kulusevski all on the treatment table.

Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin are also unavailable, while young striker Dane Scarlett, although rarely given a chance in the senior squad, will be watching from the sidelines.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Postecoglou has shared an update on team news for Tottenham.

"Pretty much the same as last week. Lucas isn't available. Pape is fine."

Tottenham Predicted XI

Tel and Odobert benched

Tottenham Predicted XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma, Bentancur; Johnson, Solanke, Son.

Tottenham Predicted Substitutes: Kinsky (GK), Danso (DEF), Davies (DEF), Spence (DEF), Reguillon (DEF), Gray (MID), Odobert (FWD), Tel (FWD), Richarlison (FWD).

Although Postecoglou has a host of midfield injury issues to deal with, the fitness problems in other positions have improved in recent weeks. We could see Spurs deploy a full-strength defence, with an attacking trio of Heung-min Son, Brennan Johnson, and Dominic Solanke.

Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert could be dropped to the bench despite starting in the previous Premier League match, along with the likes of Djed Spence and Archie Gray.

Manchester United Team News

De Ligt and Yoro missed the previous game

Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro have both been on the sidelines in recent weeks, so they could be in a race against time to make the Europa League final. Lisandro Martinez and Joshua Zirkzee, but the former has travelled with the squad.

Diogo Dalot is a also a doubt for the Red Devils, but once again, he has flown to Bilbao, while Jonny Evans was also unavailable for United when they faced Chelsea last week.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Europa League final, Amorim has provided an update on who could be available to face Spurs.

"Me neither [didn't expect Joshua Zirkzee to be fit]! They recovered quite well. They pushed. Of course, we respect the feeling of the player but we pushed a little bit. They can help us win the game. De Ligt is out."

Man Utd Predicted XI

Yoro to start

Man Utd Predicted XI: Onana; Yoro, Maguire, Lindelof; Mazraoui, Ugarte, Casemiro, Dorgu; Diallo, Fernandes; Hojlund.

Man Utd Predicted Substitutes: Bayindir (GK), Shaw (DEF), Heaven (DEF), Dalot (DEF), Collyer (MID), Mainoo (MID), Mount (MID), Garnacho (FWD), Zirkzee (FWD).

With the lack of defensive options United have due to Martinez and De Ligt being out injured, we could see Yoro come straight back into the starting XI. It could be too soon for Dalot and Zirkzee, but we may see them take their place among the substitutes.

Description

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been given a huge boost ahead of Wednesday's Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur - with the trio of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro and Diogo Dalot all in training for the Red Devils ahead of their crunch clash in Bilbao.

United know that a win would somehow save their season in the most unconventional of routes. Their domestic form has been shambolic, but last season's FA Cup win over local rivals Manchester City handed them a place in the Europa League, and by reaching the final, a win would put them into the Champions League despite finishing lower than 7th in both of their two previous seasons.

Just one game away from lifting the trophy, Amorim will need every available player to see the game over the line - and he's been given a boost with two of his star defenders and one of his striking force being available for the clash in northern Spain.

A post on X (formerly Twitter) by @SamC_reports states that Yoro, Dalot and Zirkzee are all back in training after suffering injury woes over the past few weeks.

United have been light on player availability in recent weeks, with consistent injuries blighting their campaign on domestic soil to leave them 16th in the Premier League. But that is set to change ahead of their huge game against Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham outfit, with the trio back in training in their bid to force United over the line and into next season's Champions League as a result.

Yoro has been a revelation since joining from Lille in the summer, one of INEOS' best buys in Amorim's preferred three-back formation - and having seen Luke Shaw feature on the left side of the three, Yoro's return will offer more defensive stability.

Tottenham vs Man United Injury News: 13 Players That Could Miss Europa League Final - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have both had dismal Premier League seasons, with them currently sitting in 17th and 16th respectively. But, against all odds, both sides have been impressive in Europe and have reached the Europa League final.

Spurs will be looking to win their first trophy in 17 years in Bilbao, while United are hoping to win silverware for the third consecutive season.

Both sides will not be at their strongest, however, with injuries mounting. In fact, according to the Mirror, as many as 13 players could miss the final through injury. View the players that could miss or have already been ruled out of the final below...

Tottenham Hotspur

Including James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski

Spurs appear to have bigger injury problems than their Premier League rivals. James Maddison, arguably Tottenham's best player, suffered a knee injury at the start of May and was ruled out of the Europa League final shortly after.

However, he was included in Spurs' travelling squad for the match, sparking rumours he could be fit to play a part. Whether he is fit enough to feature remains to be seen.

Another of Spurs' most influential players, Dejan Kulusevski, will also miss the final. The Swede suffered a knee injury against Crystal Palace earlier this month which required surgery. Radu Dragusin and Lucas Bergvall are also sidelined, having suffered knee and ankle injuries respectively, while Timo Werner will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Youngster Dane Scarlett, who has made a handful of appearances this season, has a groin injury, while Spurs are sweating on Pape Matar Sarr's fitness after the midfielder went off with a back complaint against Aston Villa last week. He could still make the final, though, with Postecoglou saying he did not think his injury was serious.

Manchester United

Including Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro

United have several issues in defence. Lisandro Martinez will miss the final after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee back in February. The injury is expected to rule him out until the end of the year.

Both Matthijs De Ligt and Leny Yoro could also miss the final after recent injuries. Speaking about the duo, Amorim said on the defensive pair: "I don't know if they're going to be available, we'll try to push, it's a final, all the players want to play really bad."

Diogo Dalot has been out of action for the last month after picking up a calf injury. He has resumed individual training, though, and could be selected if he passes a fitness test. Jonny Evans has not played for United since December 2024 and is expected to be unavailable.

Tottenham Make Major Ange Postecoglou Sack Decision Before Europa League Final

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are set to announce the return of Fabio Paratici as sporting director, according to reports - and his appointment back in the hot seat will see the Italian opt to immediately replace Ange Postecoglou after a dismal season on domestic soil, regardless of their achievements in the Europa League final.

It's set to be their worst Premier League season to date, having finished 15th in the 1993/94 campaign, and that will see Postecoglou lose his job with only the bottom three having lost more games than Tottenham in the current campaign - and despite reaching the Europa League final, Ange is set to be given the boot, with Francesco Farioli and more reportedly to be pursued to replace him.

Report: Tottenham Have Made Their Big Ange Decision

The Aussie is set to leave in the days after the final

The report by The Sun states that Paratici's return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is set to be confirmed, as the Italian director's first task looks to be lining up a replacement for Postecoglou - and that will see the Aussie relieved of his duties as Spurs boss, regardless of whether he wins the Europa League or not.

Spurs have lost 21 of their 37 Premier League games, and can only finish in a maximum 14th place in the division, whilst a draw would see them finish only as high as 16th should Manchester United lose their final game of the campaign.

The north London club are one game away from winning their first trophy in 17 years, but a poor domestic campaign has meant that the Aussie gaffer is teetering on the verge of the exit door - and that will see Paratici reportedly make a move for Farioli to replace him despite Ajax crumbling in the Eredivisie title race.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Ange Postecoglou has won 46 of his 99 games in charge of Tottenham.

Paratici's influence on who Tottenham will add to their ranks in the coming weeks will be huge, and although Simone Inzaghi is 'close' to him, the Inter Milan chief is set to stick with the Champions League finalists next season - and that will see Farioli come into the mix. The former Nice boss is highly regarded for his work in France on a tight budget, as well as his ability to drag Ajax back to the Champions League after a dreadful campaign last time out.
