Mohamed Salah sang Gakpo's praises a season ago, explaining why he feels he had been misunderstood by the Kop. The Egyptian, who left Liverpool earlier this summer, called him a 'very clever' attacker.

De Zerbi Wants to Keep Bergvall

One such player is central midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who has been heavily linked with a move away from the club amid interest from the likes of Nottingham Forest, who had a £38m bid rejected, Newcastle, who had a £46m bid rejected, and Brighton, who were preparing a club-record offer for the Sweden international.

The player had previously expressed his desire to leave Spurs this summer in search of regular football, and it was reported that Tottenham were willing to sanction an exit for around £60m.

However, it's now reported that after holding talks with De Zerbi behind the scenes, the Italian manager has convinced the board that they would be making a mistake by letting him leave, and the stance around the club has now significantly changed.

Bergvall has concerns about his place in the pecking order following the arrivals of Fernandes, Tonali, and Conor Gallagher in the last two windows, while Archie Gray has regularly been given the captain's armband during pre-season.

But De Zerbi has assured the 20-year-old that he remains a major figure in his long-term plans at the club, and Bergvall is now set to commit his future to the club until January at least, where he will then re-evaluate his situation.

It's very easy to forget that Bergvall is only 20 years old, considering how good he has been since joining the club as an 18-year-old. Described as 'incredible', the midfielder has all the attributes to be able to play in a number of roles, and that is hugely beneficial to De Zerbi and the way he wants to play.

With such quality, it would have been a tragedy for Spurs fans to lose such a talent so early on in his career simply because the club are prioritising winning now, rather than their future.

Now they have the chance to convince him that he is in the right place, and the team will be better for it at the same time.

Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about the possibility of signing Benjamin Sesko, but Manchester United are not prepared to sell the striker this summer, according to TEAMtalk.

Sesko experienced a mixed opening campaign in English football last term, although he found his feet toward the end of the season under Michael Carrick, ultimately finishing the year with 12 goals in 32 appearances. If Spurs were to stump up a proposal in the region of £100 million, there's every possibility that they would land Sesko this summer.

Tottenham Should Focus on Other Striker Targets

Tottenham could pay over the odds for Sesko, but they probably shouldn't. While he's certainly an impressive talent with all the tools to develop into something special, the Lilywhites cannot afford to take this expensive gamble after already spending big money on the likes of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes this summer.

Instead, they should explore other options on their striker shortlist. Junior Kroupi is no longer a candidate after sustaining a serious foot injury last week, although there are some more under-the-radar links which have surfaced in recent weeks.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham have made an approach worth £55m to sign Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen.

Tottenham have been linked with a number of different strikers in recent days, including Folarin Balogun and Nicolas Jackson, with a transfer likely to be pursued should either Dominic Solanke or Richarlison leave the club in the next few weeks.

It appears more like that the latter would leave than Solanke, who it has often been claimed De Zerbi is a big fan of, with the Brazilian consistently linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

While there has been no official approach or direct contact between Spurs and Galatasaray yet, they are sounding out potential offers for a player that the Turkish giants are said to value at £65m.

Osimhen is a Huge Nicolas Jackson Upgrade

While Jackson would join Tottenham with that Premier League experience that De Zerbi seemingly craves, there is no doubt that Osimhen has proven he is a level above his fellow African striker in recent years.

Since joining Chelsea in 2023, Jackson has scored 41 goals in club football, for the Blues and on loan at Bayern Munich last season.

In the same time-frame, Osimhen has 76, and he has been scoring at a rate of knots for Galatasaray across the two previous campaigns.

It was the Nigerian's spell at Napoli that was most impressive though, as he was one of the key figures in Napoli's historic 2023 Scudetto win, shining alongside Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in attack.

Tottenham Hotspur now have a 'very good chance' of signing Manchester City winger Savinho, with Fabrizio Romano issuing a new update on the club's pursuit of the Brazilian, as well as naming another new target.

Tottenham continued an impressive run of form in pre-season by beating Chelsea 2-1 in the Sydney Super Cup on Saturday, as their half-a-dozen new summer signings continue to get to grips with life in a white shirt.

Roberto De Zerbi previously claimed that Spurs' summer business was 60% done, which suggested that there could still be four new additions arriving before the deadline next month.

However, the Italian has since claimed that he hopes for two or three more arrivals by September 1, all of which look to be attacking players given the north London outfit are being linked with moves for two wingers and a striker as things stand.

While the two wingers look nailed on given the strong interest in signing both Savinho and Cody Gakpo from Liverpool, the likelihood is that the striker signing will depend on either Dominic Solanke or Richarlison leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the latter considered the most likely to leave.

Romano: Savinho Has 'Very Good Chance' of Joining Tottenham

Tottenham have been trying to land Savinho for most of this summer, after also trying the land the Brazil international 12 months ago too.

Spurs failed to convince Man City to let the 22-year-old, described as 'extraordinary' by Pep Guardiola, go in 2025, but they are more hopeful of finding an agreement this time around after the forward's minutes were more restricted last term.

Romano has issued a new update on the north London outfit's pursuit of Savinho, saying there is a 'very good chance' of the deal happening, and that he isn't expecting any surprises in regard to it potentially falling through.

The Italian journalist also revealed potential interest in Chelsea winger Pedro Neto, should they fail to sign Savinho.

He said on his YouTube channel on Tuesday evening:

"The priority, the number one, two, and three target remains Savinho, and I think at the end of the summer transfer window, Savinho has very, very good chances to join Tottenham.

"So I don't expect any surprises here. Eventually, if the deal is not happening for Savinho, Pedro Neto could become an option for Tottenham Hospur. So that could be an interesting situation to follow."

It was only on Tuesday morning that the Daily Mail claimed that Tottenham were considering a summer move for another Chelsea player in Nicolas Jackson.

The Senegalese striker is being heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, with Aston Villa understood to be very keen to reunite him with Unai Emery, although they may have to pay his £65m asking price to do given they are unable to loan both he and Alejandro Garnacho in the same window.

However, the Italian journalist confirmed at the same time that Spurs have also added the 'world-class' winger, as described by ex-Blues boss Liam Rosenior, to their transfer shortlist too, as they step up their bid to add to their attack ahead of the Premier League season getting underway later this month.

Chelsea signed Neto for £54m from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2024, and it remains to be seen how much they would demand to sell him now.

Tottenham Eyeing Another Premier League Winger

Tottenham are clearly lining up alternatives if they don't land their preferred targets, seemingly Savinho and Gakpo right now, after links to yet another Premier League forward.

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Iliman Ndiaye this summer, although Everton's purported £75 million valuation could deter the North London club from making a move, according to CaughtOffside.

The Toffees reportedly want around £75 million for the former Sheffield United man - a sum the Saudi club would be comfortable meeting, but a figure Tottenham may deem excessive.

United are said to be the Premier League side most aggressively pursuing Ndiaye, with Spurs' interest believed to be at a very preliminary stage for the time being.

Iliman Ndiaye Would Be an Astute Xavi Simons Replacement For Tottenham

It seems clear that De Zerbi is planning on using a mix of Conor Gallagher and James Maddison as his number ten options next season, in front of the newly-formed double pivot consisting of Fernandes and Tonali.

That likely means that Xavi Simons is pencilled in for a spot off the left once he returns, rather than a central role. The Dutchman sustained an ACL injury towards the back end of last season and will miss the majority of the upcoming campaign.

Thus, Spurs need a similar profile to Simons on this flank for the time being, and Ndiaye fits the bill. The Everton star is a creative wide forward, a prolific dribbler and excellent at operating in the left-half spaces, just like the former RB Leipzig man.

If Spurs can leapfrog the likes of United and Al-Hilal in the race to sign Ndiaye, they ought to do it.
