Description

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is still expected to leave the club in the coming weeks, according to Miguel Delaney’s ‘Reading the Game’ newsletter.

The 2024/25 Premier League season was a dire one for Spurs, who lost a staggering 22 games out of a possible 38. Were it not for the trio of promoted sides being relegated long before the campaign’s end, then Spurs could have been in a genuine relegation battle, almost unthinkable for a club of their stature.

Exits from both domestic cups combined with such poor form in the league has seen pressure rise on manager Ange Postecoglou all season. The Australian was, at least from the turn of the year, entirely reliant on the Europa League, a competition in which the Lilywhites looked like a different team.

For all of their problems last season, Postecoglou finally ended Spurs’ 17-year long trophy drought, guiding Spurs to the Europa League title by beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final. Postecoglou looked set to leave Spurs at the end of the season regardless, but now many are wondering whether Tottenham can really part ways with the man who, finally, ended their time without a trophy.

Now, it would appear that there has been an update on Postecoglou’s immediate future.

Still ‘No Official Decision’ on Postecoglou

Australian looks set to depart

Writing in his ‘Reading the Game’ newsletter, Miguel Delaney has explained that, while Spurs have not yet reached an official decision regarding Postecoglou’s future, it still looks likely that the Australian will depart. Delaney said:

“As of Friday morning, Tottenham Hotspur still hadn’t made an official decision on Ange Postecoglou but the chances of staying had apparently gone down from last week’s ‘five percent.’ His departure is still expected, whenever that may be.”

Tottenham have been linked with a number of managers that could replace Postecoglou, who looks all but certain to leave the North London club. Given their form in the Premier League, it would perhaps be best for Postecoglou to depart having done the job he was drafted in to do, finally winning Spurs another trophy.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is becoming more open-minded about showing ambition and luring a big-name acquisition to Hotspur Way during the fast-approaching transfer window after boss Ange Postecoglou succeeded in ending the lengthy wait for silverware, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

Spurs added to their trophy cabinet for the first time in 17 years thanks to Brennan Johnson's first half winner in the Europa League final against Manchester United last week, resulting in the north Londoners being increasingly eager to build on the achievement by upgrading their squad.

A final decision still needs to be made on whether to keep Mathys Tel, with there being a £45million option to turn his initial loan move into a permanent switch from Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich, but Tottenham are also aiming to tempt fresh faces to the capital as preparations are made for next season.

Levy Open to Completing Ambitious Business

North Londoners looking to capitalise on ending trophy drought

Tottenham are considering making a marquee signing during the summer, according to GMS sources, after booking their place in the Champions League resulted in Levy and other influential figures behind the scenes being involved in an internal meeting to discuss exciting transfer plans earlier this week.

Although £20.9million of the budget will be spent on Kevin Danso, due to Spurs having an obligation to retain the central defender following his initial temporary arrival from Lens, it has been acknowledged that Postecoglou's current crop of players need fresh competition for places.

GMS sources have been informed that Tottenham have contemplated upping the ante for the likes of Jack Grealish and Eberechi Eze, who are currently at Manchester City and Crystal Palace respectively, even though it is increasingly likely that they would have to make either their club-record signing in order to get the deal over the line.

The latter has a £68million release clause written into his contract, which will become active when the transfer window officially reopens, but Spurs are on course to face stiff competition for his services if they decide to push ahead with attempting to convince him to relocate across the capital.

Grealish's wage demands would be a major stumbling block for Tottenham to overcome, GMS sources have learned, but Levy has refused to rule out the possibility of splashing the cash on an eye-catching arrival as he aims to take advantage of the feelgood factor behind the scenes as a result of winning the Europa League.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Jack Grealish made two key passes and got his name on the scoresheet during Manchester City's win over Leicester City last month

Simons Still Likely to be Beyond Spurs' Reach

Netherlands international has hefty price tag heading into summer

GMS sources have been told that Tottenham want to make two attacking signings and also bring in a midfielder, resulting in it being expected that these will be looked at as areas for a special acquisition rather than the backline, but RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons is still likely to be beyond their reach.

The Bundesliga giants have slapped a price tag in the region of £68million on the Netherlands international, having missed out on European qualification on the final day of the season, and Spurs are on course to turn their attentions towards alternative options as the summer transfer window edges closer.

Tottenham will have to play the waiting game if they decide to focus on landing Leroy Sane as he is locked in ongoing talks with Bayern Munich over a new contract, GMS sources understand, but the north Londoners have altered their stance over transfer plans after initially intending to target emerging talent holding good value.

GMS sources recently revealed that Spurs are aiming to convince Cristian Romero to remain on board instead of pushing for a summer switch to Atletico Madrid, while they are determined to secure reinforcements capable of spearheading them towards further silverware in the coming seasons.

Tottenham are showing concrete interest in a summer move for Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed.

The Lilywhites have reportedly made an enquiry about the French attacker and are showing the strongest interest among Premier League clubs, despite recent links with Liverpool and Newcastle.

Nkunku is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer and would welcome a return to the Bundesliga, where he spent four seasons with RB Leipzig before joining Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

He was targeted by German champions Bayern Munich in January, when the Blues were asking for more than €60m (£51m) for the 27-year-old.

Tottenham Make Christopher Nkunku Enquiry

He is expected to depart Chelsea this summer

Writing on X, Jacobs revealed that Nkunku would be open to staying in the Premier League amid growing interest from Tottenham:

Nkunku, who earns £300,000 per week at Stamford Bridge, has struggled for regular opportunities under Enzo Maresca this season, making just nine Premier League starts and another seven in Europe.

He was left on the bench for Chelsea’s 4-1 victory in the Conference League final over Real Betis on Wednesday, having been sidelined with a knock for most of May.

The Frenchman has made 42 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 14 goals and providing five assists.

He signed a six-year contract upon his arrival from Leipzig in 2023 and has just over four years remaining on his deal, which runs until 2029.

Tottenham Must Convince ‘One of the Best’ to Replace Postecoglou, Talks Planned - GiveMeSport
Description

Ange Postecoglou's dismal season as Tottenham Hotspur boss on domestic soil may not be enough to save his skin in terms of being in charge next season - and the Lilywhites must swoop to bring in another top-class manager to replace him after recent developments.

Postecoglou's men finished in a club-record low of 17th in the Premier League, were dumped out of the FA Cup in the fourth round and blew an aggregate lead in the League Cup semi-final against Liverpool by four goals - but winning in the Europa League in Bilbao means they'll play in the Champions League next season, despite finishing just one place above relegation in the Premier League table.

Tottenham Should do All They Can to Land Simone Inzaghi

Simone Inzaghi has been one of Europe's most esteemed coaches for years

With that in mind, Postecoglou's job isn't safe as a result of their domestic downfalls - and it could see them opt for a move for Simone Inzaghi, who is set to enter talks over his Inter Milan future next week.

Inzaghi has dragged Inter to the Champions League final for the second time in three years, and although they missed out on the Serie A title by a single point, he's well-respected in Italy, having transformed Lazio from a mid-table outfit to Champions League qualifiers after a struggling few years in Rome.

They'll face Paris Saint-Germain in Munich on Saturday, in a bid to win their fourth-ever Champions League/European Cup - and only after that will Inzaghi's future become clearer, once he has sat down for talks after the final to discuss his next move.

Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal have registered their interest, whilst clubs in Italy and Europe have also made their intentions clear. But if Spurs are to return to being perennial top-four challengers, they need to land someone in Inzaghi's ilk.

There is little doubt that when Postecoglou's style of play pays off, it's unceremoniously some of the best football to watch throughout the world, with teams being put to the sword at mercy when they're on form - but too often, his persistence at keeping the same mantra has harmed the squad and that is where Inzaghi offers something different to the former Celtic boss.

The Italian has been famed for his utilisation of different tactics, both in transition and when behind the ball, and that has made Inter a tough side to beat with just eight losses all season in all competitions, coming up alongside a 63 percent win rate - marking him as 'one of the best managers in Europe' for quite some time

His teams are extremely tough to beat, as evidenced by their routes to the finals, and Tottenham are in need of their guard being up to stop becoming too easy to cut through, having tasted defeat in 22 of their 38 Premier League matches, a shambolic total.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Simone Inzaghi has won 275 of his 467 games in charge of both Lazio and Inter Milan - his only two jobs.

Inzaghi has only lost 34 of his 216 games in charge of Inter in all competitions, taking five major trophies in the process, including two consecutive Coppa Italia winner's medals - and, with Tottenham having tasted silverware for the first time in almost two decades, they'll hope to do so again on a more frequent basis if they sign the Piacenza-born boss.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou and influential figures behind the scenes are determined to persuade Cristian Romero to resist the temptation of completing a move to Atletico Madrid and remain at Hotspur Way after gaining interest as the summer transfer window edges closer, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

Although Spurs bolstered their defensive options midway through the 2024/25 campaign, thanks to Kevin Danso sealing an initial loan switch which included a £20.9million obligation to become permanent, there is a desire to ensure key members of the squad will stay in their current surroundings.

Romero played a key role in Tottenham ending their 17-year wait for silverware as he started the Europa League final victory over Manchester United last week, but the north Londoners are desperate to avoid a situation where he heads through the exit door as preparations are made for next term.

Spurs Desperate to Persuade Romero to Stay

Argentina international has been gaining interest from La Liga

Tottenham are aiming to convince Romero to make a U-turn over his future and snub advances from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, according to GMS sources, and there is fresh hope that bagging Champions League qualification will be enough to ensure he opts to stay on board.

The World Cup-winning Argentina international is preparing to enter the final two years of his £165,000-per-week contract, which has resulted in admirers sniffing a potential opportunity to tempt Spurs into sanctioning his departure when the transfer window officially reopens for business.

But GMS sources have been informed that Tottenham are refusing to give up on their attempts to retain Romero, who shone during the Europa League final win over Manchester United, even though he had begun readying himself to embark on a fresh challenge before adding to the trophy cabinet.

The central defender has been described as 'world-class' by Spurs teammate Micky van de Ven, emphasising that he would be seen as a significant loss by members of the dressing room, and remained at the forefront of Postecoglou's plans despite there being uncertainty over his long-term future.

Romero had initially seemed to have made his made up that he was ready to leave Tottenham and the Premier League, GMS sources have learned, leading to Atletico Madrid being among the leading contenders to acquire his services after they had been seeking to progress talks as soon as the season ended.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Cristian Romero averaged five ball recoveries and 2.9 clearances per Premier League outing during the 2024/25 campaign

Levy Among Figures Hoping to Tempt Romero

North Londoners seeking to show ambition after winning silverware

GMS sources have been told that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and other significant figures in the corridors of power are wondering how ambitious they can become after ending their trophy drought, leading to there being a strong desire to sway Romero towards remaining in north London.

The 27-year-old fuelled speculation that he was interested in leaving Spurs by publicly confirming a desire to head to Spain, making Atletico Madrid increasingly confident of being able to reach an agreement for his signature, but there remains a serious possibility of him not being among the names to depart in the coming months.

Tottenham are determined to do everything they can to maintain the mood behind the scenes after enjoying Europa League glory, GMS sources understand, leading to them being eager to keep Romero even though he was valued at £65million when they had initially accepted that it was likely they would find a buyer.

Spurs had been planning to keep their spending to sensible levels, highlighted by GMS sources recently revealing there is doubt that they will meet Hugo Larsson's price tag despite the Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder being on their shortlist of targets, but clinching silverware has changed their plans for the backline.

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the sides showing an interest in signing Monaco attacking midfielder Maghnes Akliouche, according to a report from CaughtOffside.

After such a disappointing season in the Premier League, it could be a busy summer transfer window for Spurs as they look to bring in reinforcements. A host of new signings will be necessary to steer them back in the right direction, despite them lifting a trophy.

Ange Postecoglou's side rescued something from a disastrous campaign by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final. Although an incredible achievement, their Premier League displays can't go unnoticed.

Tottenham Eyeing Maghnes Akliouche

Could cost £59m

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are one of the sides who are showing an interest in signing Monaco attacking midfielder Akliouche. The Ligue 1 outfit could demand in the region of £59m to allow him to head through the exit door this summer, while the Premier League could be a likely destination for the 23-year-old.

Akliouche, who has a 'left foot made of gold' according to talent scout Jacek Kulig, has been described as an 'insane' talent, bursting onto the scene in Monaco's first team at the age of 19. The young playmaker has become a key player for the Ligue 1 outfit this season, so it's no surprise that they are set to demand a hefty fee to allow him to depart.

Akliouche's versatility could make him a useful option for Postecoglou. The French international plays as an attacking midfielder or winger, and he's a major creative threat in the final third. The 23-year-old produced 10 assists in La Liga this season, scoring five goals along the way.

The Monaco star also made an impact in the Champions League, featuring in 10 games for the French side, providing four goals and assists combined in the campaign.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-Min Son is likely to be approached about a move to Saudi Arabia this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The Lilywhites have secured Champions League football for next season after winning the Europa League final 1-0 against Manchester United, despite finishing the Premier League in 17th place after a remarkably poor campaign.

But now captain Son faces a major decision over his future with big-spending Saudi clubs looking at attracting him to the Middle East.

Saudi Clubs Eyeing Son Move

Son prefers to stay in London

The Saudi Pro League are looking to add a new array of talent to their ranks this summer and are keen to bring in new superstars with Victor Osimhen, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah all targeted for moves.

But after Salah opted to stay at Liverpool instead after winning the Premier League, Son has now emerged as a target for the club following his most recent success.

Son, dubbed "world-class" by Ange Postecoglou, is regarded as one of Spurs' best players in the modern era and finally lifted his first trophy last week despite not starting in the final, having recently recovered from a foot injury.

But after failing with a big-money bid for Brighton star Kaoru Mitoma in January, the club are now eyeing Son as their Asian superstar for the league with a new international TV deal set to kick in this season.

However, talkSPORT report that Son would have to have a change of heart about his stance on a move to Saudi as he would currently prefer to stay in London for another year at least.

Son, who will turn 33 this summer, saw his contract with Spurs extended by a further 12 months earlier this season. There are question marks about the futures of Richarlison, Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel who all play in attack, and that could also be a factor in Son's future at the club.

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a blockbuster summer move to sign RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons, according to ESPN FC.

The Lilywhites overcame their worst domestic season in decades as they finished 17th in the Premier League to secure Champions League football by winning the Europa League, ending their 17-year trophy drought in the process.

Now Daniel Levy is keen to bolster the squad ahead of the new campaign, and Netherlands international Simons is someone they are said to be keeping an eye on.

Tottenham Want to Sign Xavi Simons

Player wants to leave RB Leipzig

With plenty of change expected in North London this summer, the club are planning their transfer window carefully. However, with no final decision made yet on the future of manager Ange Postecoglou, no moves have been made yet.

According to ESPN FC though, the club are paying close attention to Netherlands international Simons, who has made it clear that he wants to leave RB Leipzig this summer.

The playmaker, who has been described as 'one of the best no.10's in the world', made his loan move from Paris Saint-Germain permanent in January with the intention of leaving this summer in a mega-money move.

Spurs are expected to strengthen the attack this summer, with question marks over the futures of Heung-Min Son, Richarlison, Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert, while midfielders James Maddison and Yves Bissouma could also be on the move.

With Champions League football now in play for next season, the club have much more money to spend now and will also be able to attract a better calibre of player, which is where Simons fits in.

Xavi, who has been labelled a 'superstar', is also said to be attracting the interest of several other top European clubs including Barcelona, but their financial situation means a deal to see him return to the Camp Nou is unlikely.

Tottenham are also looking to bring in Southampton star Tyler Dibling alongside Angel Gomes and new defenders, with Cristian Romero potentially set to leave.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Hugo Larsson as it has been confirmed that Eintracht Frankfurt will not entertain lowering their demands for the Hotspur Way target during the fast-approaching summer transfer window, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

Spurs ended their 17-year wait to add to the trophy cabinet by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final last week, leading to boss Ange Postecoglou and members of the recruitment department being desperate to show ambition as preparations are made for next season.

A final decision still needs to be made over whether to make Mathys Tel a permanent member of the squad, with there being a £45million option to buy him from Bayern Munich after an initial loan spell, but Tottenham have been giving indications that they want to improve their options in the middle of the park.

Spurs Discover Larsson Has a Hefty Price Tag

Sweden international will not head to north London for bargain fee

Tottenham are facing an uphill battle to seal a summer deal for Larsson, according to GMS sources, as influential figures behind the scenes have discovered that they will have to fork out £50million in order to convince Eintracht Frankfurt to sanction his departure after playing a key role in qualifying for the Champions League.

The Bundesliga giants have been expecting offers for the Sweden international, thanks to Spurs not being the only side to have shown interest ahead of the transfer window reopening for business, and that has resulted in them being determined to hold out for a hefty fee instead of entertaining the possibility of accepting a cut-price offer.

GMS sources have been informed that it would come as a shock if Tottenham choose to meet the demands for Larsson, who has been among the first names on the team sheet for Eintracht Frankfurt, but they are still contemplating whether to try their luck by entering discussions in the coming weeks.

The central midfielder's current employers are in a strong negotiating position thanks to there still being four years remaining on a contract which allows him to pocket in excess of £30,000-per-week, complicating matters for Spurs, and they are determined to avoid a situation where their squad is decimated as they prepare to return to the Champions League.

Tottenham have been tracking Larsson with a view to lodging a formal offer this summer, GMS sources have learned, but their hopes of being able to reach an agreement for a lower figure have gone up in smoke due to Eintracht Frankfurt being adamant that they have priced him at fair market value.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Hugo Larsson won six ground duels and made five tackles during Eintracht Frankfurt's Europa League quarter-final first leg draw with Tottenham Hotspur last month

Postecoglou Must Meet Demands for Larsson

Replacement already being lined up ahead of 20-year-old's exit

GMS sources have been told that Eintracht Frankfurt are prepared to sell Larsson to Tottenham if Postecoglou and key decision-makers are willing to meet the German side's financial expectations, meaning the possibility of him embarking on a fresh challenge in north London has not been ruled out.

The 20-year-old, who has been described as 'exceptional' after taking his game to another level in his current surroundings, will unite with fellow countrymen Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Bergvall if he is given the green light to become the latest addition to Spurs' squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Eintracht Frankfurt have already been preparing for Larsson's potential departure from Deutsche Bank Park by attempting to recruit Jobe Bellingham in the aftermath of sealing promotion to the Premier League with Sunderland, GMS sources understand, and that may open the door for Tottenham to pounce.

GMS sources recently revealed that Roony Bardghji is open to completing a summer move to Spurs, having been assessing his options as he edges towards entering the final six months of his Copenhagen contract, highlighting that it could be a busy summer for technical director Johan Lange and chairman Daniel Levy.

Description

Tottenham are eyeing a summer move to sign Jacob Ramsey this summer with Aston Villa facing the potential scenario of being forced to sell, according to talkSPORT.

The Lilywhites had their worst domestic season in decades after finishing 17th in the Premier League, but secured Champions League football for next season via the back door after winning the Europa League and ending a 17-year trophy drought in the process.

That has hugely boosted the club's transfer budget and chances of signing new talent this summer, and now Spurs are eyeing a move to bolster their midfield with proven talent.

Tottenham Want to Sign Ramsey

Aston Villa could be forced to sell him

After qualification for the Champions League was secured, Spurs have begun to put their plans into place for the summer transfer window and Ramsey has emerged as a target.

Aston Villa missed out on qualifying for the Champions League on the final day of the season after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United, and that will now greatly effect their summer transfer window as they have got major concerns with PSR and FFP limits.

According to talkSPORT, the club may now be forced into a major sale to balance the books, and Ramsey being an academy player means that any money made from his sale will be recorded as 100% profit on their books.

Tottenham are reportedly keen on bringing him in, and with Villa rating Ramsey, who has been described as 'unbelievable', at £50m there is scope for a deal to be done now.

There are still question marks over the future of manager Ange Postecoglou, with some still expecting him to be sacked after poor results in the Premier League, although it's understood that a final decision is yet to be made.

There is expected to be plenty of business done in north London this summer, with midfielder Yves Bissouma expected to be on the move despite coming back into contention in the final run of the season. Ramsey could be the perfect addition to the side as a replacement.
