Tottenham's transfer business may have taken a twist this summer, as Florian Plettenberg reports that Luka Vuskovic has agreed terms over a potential exit from the club.

According to reports from Portuguese outlet Record, via Sport Witness, Tottenham are showing a keen interest in Sporting CP star Maxi Araujo.

The 26-year-old is a versatile option, capable of playing at both left-back and left-wing for the Portuguese outfit, providing a handful of goals and assists along the way.

It's claimed that Spurs are joined by Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea in the race to land Araujo, while La Liga side Atletico Madrid have also been monitoring a potential deal.

Any move is unlikely to come cheap, as Sporting CP are wanting close to the defender's £69 million release clause to allow for any talks of an exit.

It's stated that the club are willing to prepare improved terms on his contract, which currently runs until 2029, but it may take some time to get to those possible discussions.

Sporting are only likely to assess Araujo's position after the World Cup, where he is set to feature for Uruguay in group games against Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Cape Verde.

Tottenham's Left-Back Balance

A move for Araujo may seem slightly unlikely at Tottenham, mainly due to the depth they already have in his primary left-back position.

Robertson's arrival strengthens that position, which is backed up by Destiny Udogie when he is available, Ben Davies following his contract extension, and Djed Spence when switching to that side.

Throw January signing Souza into the mix, and that makes for five players already taking up that one position, albeit with some versatility in there.

That may need addressing in the window, even before considering further signings, as Souza seems the most likely candidate to leave on loan.

It remains to be seen what De Zerbi will do with the strength in depth, considering the lack of European football for next season, but there may be an opportunity to mix and match his teams more.

Tottenham Eyeing Move for Marcus Rashford

After a stunning season on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United, it seemed likely that the La Liga champions would take up their £26m buy option to bring Rashford to the Camp Nou on a permanent basis.

However, Barca have turned their back on a deal for the 28-year-old despite reports that they could try and renegotiate the option, or try and take him on loan again next season, paying his £315,000-a-week wages at the same time.

The situation has been complicated by the fact that they have already brought in another left-sided forward in Rashford's England teammate Anthony Gordon, which leaves the Red Devils man in limbo.

Rashford does have Premier League interest in him though, according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Tottenham, Arsenal and Aston Villa are monitoring the situation of the forward, who scored 14 goals and registered 14 assists in just 26 starts for the Catalan giants.

Rashford is Way Better Than Savinho

Savinho may be six years Rashford's junior, but you only have to look at how they both performed this season to see who is ready to make the biggest difference for Tottenham and De Zerbi right now.

We've already mentioned Rashford's impressive record under Hansi Flick at the Camp Nou, while it was a much quieter campaign for the Brazilian.

The 22-year-old ended the Premier League season with one goal and two assists in 24 top flight outings for City, as he struggled to make a consistent impact under Pep Guardiola.

It's understandable that Spurs might be looking at what Savinho can offer them in the future, rather than right now, but Rashford looks like a confident, rejuvenated player who can bring strong goal contribution numbers for De Zerbi now.

While his wage demands could be high, if he can be purchased for anything around the £25-30m mark, then it is surely a no-brainer deal to pursue for Spurs.

Tottenham received a bid on Friday for one of their defenders, but not for the one you might think.

There has been a feeling around the north London outfit for some time now that club captain Cristian Romero would leave the club this summer.

De Zerbi is already revamping the squad he inherited from Igor Tudor and Thomas Frank, with two defender signings already through the door in Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi.

Now, with Spurs in talks to sign Jan Paul Van Hecke from Brighton, the Seagulls have thrown a counter punch by placing a £30million bid for the Croatian.

Spurs would surely demand more than that to sell one of their prized assets, who is contracted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2030.

And Spurs insider Paul O'Keefe revealed as much in reply to a Dutch journalist talking about Vuskovic potentially being used as a makeweight in the van Hecke transfer.

Vuskovic, like Romero, is out in the United States of America for the World Cup and some good performances on the biggest stage could add some numbers to his price tag.

The decision on the 19-year-old's future will ultimately lie with De Zerbi and what he sees in the youngster when he welcomes him back for pre-season training after the World Cup ends.

To make a decision before then, on a player with such a bright future, would seem foolish.

Savinho was another who was linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Spurs could not get a deal over the line after the Citizens backed out of an agreement.

And now Maghnes Akliouche, linked with Spurs last year, has given the green light for the Lilywhites to reignite their interest. Tottenham found a deal too difficult to get done last summer, but now, with Akliouche looking to move, they might find things easier.

According to a report in Get Football News France, the 24-year-old was asked about his club future, while on duty with France at the 2026 World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico.

Asked by Nice-Matin whether the next step for him would be a transfer, Akliouche responded in the affirmative, although he caveated that by saying: “But I am focused on the World Cup. [The World Cup] is a huge window of opportunity but I am focused on the national team’s objectives. I don’t want to disrespect my club by talking about the transfer window now.”

Akliouche will have plenty of suitors this summer

If Spurs do intend to reignite their interest in the highly-rated forward, they will likely face competition from the likes of Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City for his signature.

Akliouche has just two years left on his current contract at AS Monaco, with this summer being the perfect time for the French club to sell to get optimum value for his services.

Dutch reporter Joost Blaauwhof tweeted last week: "It's Spurs and only Spurs. The Oranje international is awaiting agreement between Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur, but is no longer speaking with any other club. Personal terms agreed."

And he has followed that up with his prediction that a transfer could be completed by this weekend.

He said on Friday: "The transfer of Jan Paul van Hecke is getting closer and closer. Possibly by Sunday. Brighton & Hove Albion wants to involve Luka Vuskovic in the deal and would value the Spurs defender at around £30million."

News emerged on Friday morning from the Athletic senior journalist David Ornstein that Brighton had made a bid of £30million to sign Vuskovic from Tottenham.

It is unclear as yet what Spurs' stance on selling Vuskovic is, having not yet played a single game for the club since arriving in 2025. He was sent out on loan to Hamburg this season, where he won the Bundesliga young player of the year award.
