Real Madrid are preparing an £87m bid to sign Tottenham captain Cristian Romero in a stunning deadline-busting deal, according to Fichajes.

Spurs have had a terrible season so far in the Premier League, and currently sit 14th in the table with manager Thomas Frank facing intense scrutiny for his job. But the club did secure a place in the last 16 of the Champions League, defeating Frankfurt in Germany on Wednesday night to finish fourth in the league phase.

But the north London club could be about to be rocked ahead of next Monday's transfer deadline, with Real Madrid ready to make a mega offer for their skipper.

Real Madrid Prepare £87m Bid for Spurs Star Romero

Romero signed a new deal at the club in the summer, becoming their highest-earning player and taking the captaincy from the departed Heung-Min Son, and so far this season he has had a mixed campaign individually too.

Despite scoring six times this season, he has also been suspended on three different occasions for disciplinary problems, and his leadership has been called into question as a result.

However, the Argentine is still considered to be one of the best defenders in the world, and has been described as 'world-class', and now Real Madrid are prepared to make a sensational offer to take him to the Bernabeu this month in order to save their own season, after they sacked Xabi Alonso earlier in January.

Madrid are not ready to give up on their campaign, having fallen into the Champions League playoffs after defeat to Benfica, while they are also one point behind Barcelona at the top of La Liga, and owner Florentino Perez is now ready to pay £87m to bring Romero to the Bernabeu.

New manager Alvaro Arbeloa has given his full backing to the transfer, while Real Madrid are confident that Romero would be willing to make the move.

Tottenham Surely Can't Sell Romero

While Romero may well be struggling to play at his full potential recently, Tottenham simply cannot afford to let him go in mid-season.

An £87m bid will definitely be hard to turn down, but losing him at this stage of the window would be essentially admitting that they have nothing to play for this season. Getting in a replacement of the required quality will be nigh on impossible, and Frank has already got limited numbers to work with due to injuries.

Once we get to the end of the season, Spurs can reassess the situation and make a decision. But right now, the door must be closed no matter what.

The league phase of the UEFA Champions League concludes on Wednesday night with a feast of action as all 36 teams play at the same time.

Eighteen matches kick-off at the same time, making for some exciting twists and turns in how the table looks throughout the night, with teams swapping positions at will depending on results.

Only the top eight make it through to the last 16 automatically, with the teams finishing from ninth to 16th having to face off against the teams finishing 17th to 24th in a two-legged play-off in February for qualification to the round of 16.

Tottenham Impress In The Champions League

It is set to be a thrilling night of football in Europe's premier competition, with only six teams out of 36 knowing their fate - the top two and the bottom four.

Tottenham Hotspur currently hold one of the eight positions at the top of the table, following a fine league phase campaign - in stark contrast to their domestic form in the Premier League. Spurs have won four and drawn two of their seven Champions League games thus far - their only defeat coming to reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain, in a game you could argue they did not deserve to lose.

That leaves the Lilywhites fifth in the table, but they have work to do to ensure a top eight finish.

How Tottenham Can Reach The Last 16

Things are made a touch easier for Thomas Frank's side by the team they are up against on the final day - Eintracht Frankfurt. Spurs beat the German side on their way to UEFA Europa League glory last year and Frankfurt are struggling this season. They are eighth in the Bundesliga and one of the four sides at the bottom of the Champions League table who cannot qualify for the knockouts following a dismal campaign in which they have won just once.

So what do Spurs need to do to finish in the top eight?

They are already guaranteed being seeded for the play-offs, but they will want to qualify directly for the last 16. That is not going to be easy though as there are 13 teams within three points of each other in the race to finish in the top eight.

Three points separates third-placed Real Madrid from 15th-placed Juventus, meaning Spurs need to win to guarantee a spot in the top eight.

A draw would move Tottenham on to 15 points, and that would mean at least four of nine teams who are two points behind them presently, would need to win their games to overhaul them.

Only two of the teams chasing Spurs for a top eight spot are playing each other, with PSG hosting Newcastle, so both cannot win. That takes one team out of the equation, unless they draw and Spurs lose, which would see both of them leapfrog Tottenham.

Real Madrid, Atalanta, Sporting CP, Juventus, Chelsea and Inter all have tough-looking away fixtures, but Liverpool, Man City and Barcelona have favourable home matches.

It's going to be tight, but Spurs just need to do their job at win in Frankfurt and nothing else will matter.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has said that forward Randal Kolo Muani, who was involved in a car crash after the offside front tyre of his black Ferrari Purosangue blew out on the motorway on his way to Stansted Airport, is "fine" and is expected to join up with his fellow teammates in Germany to face Eintracht Frankfurt.

On Tuesday, pictures circulated of the 31-cap France international and Wilson Odobert standing next to a damaged Ferrari. Odobert, Kolo Muani's teammate and compatriot, was in a car behind the on-loan frontman, and he pulled over to make sure the 27-year-old striker was safe.

Said images showed major damage to the front of Kolo Muani’s expensive motor, with the windscreen also cracked and the driver's airbag having been deployed.

On loan until the end of the 2025/26 campaign from Paris Saint-Germain, the one-time Champions League winner – linked with a move back to former club Juventus – has flattered to deceive during his time in England. Spurs Striker Randal Kolo Muani Involved in Car Crash On Way to Airport

The accident happened as the French pair were travelling separately on their way to the airport for the club's Champions League trip to Germany and Wednesday's final league phase match at Eintracht Frankfurt (20:00 GMT). Frank has confirmed that both players will still be travelling to Germany.

While en route to the airport, it was reported the tyre of Kolo Muani's Ferrari blew out. Thomas Frank, ahead of his side's final European clash of the league phase, said: "That is my absolute understanding of everything. I haven’t spoken to them personally yet. They are fine. Everyone else involved in that accident was fine.

The rest of Frank's squad – including the likes of captain Cristian Romero – flew without Kolo Muani and Odobert, but both are expected to join up with the squad and be available for the game in Germany. "It was a tyre blowing up and so the two of them are a little bit delayed. They will fly out later, and I fully expect both to be available.”

Injuries are beginning to mount up for Frank and his entourage in tricky times, and he'll be counting on Kolo Muani and Odobert to make the trip to ensure the Spurs boss.

As things stand, Spurs – despite their substandard form on the domestic stage – are sixth in the league phase of the Champions League and will be in pursuit of three points against Frankfurt, a side they beat in the lead-up to last season's Europa League final win over Manchester United.

Frank's go-to choice at right-back, Pedro Porro, is out for a lengthy period with a damaged hamstring after he came off at half-time of their recent 2-2 draw with Burnley and Micky van de Ven has also not travelled to Frankfurt because of a "minor injury", leave Frank and his entourage with just 11 senior outfield players.

Kolo Muani's Spurs Future as Juventus Hold Interest in Frenchman

Yet to make a splash in England's top flight with zero goal involvements in 15 league encounters, Kolo Muani is being targeted by Juventus, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein. However, a deal to bring him back to Turin – a club he spent the latter half of 2024/25 at – will only come to fruition if Spurs terminate their agreement with PSG.

Elsewhere, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Juventus, managed by Luciano Spalletti, have made calls regarding the Frenchman's availability over the past week.

Romano claims there are two main stumbling blocks in terms of Kolo Muani returning to the Old Lady: first, Frank is not willing to lose any more players, especially in an attacking sense and, secondly, Juventus' relationship with PSG has been described as 'frosty', given that a summer move for the player in question fell through.

Tottenham Hotspur may just have their eye on one of the Premier League deals of the summer, according to reports - with the north London outfit keen on landing Robin Roefs from Sunderland if their own goalkeeping department is decimated.

The north London outfit have already spent close to £50million this winter, with Conor Gallagher joining from Atletico Madrid, as well as Brazilian starlet Souza joining from Santos. Although they won't be after a goalkeeper in the coming days, the summer may offer a different route.

The report by talkSPORT states that Spurs are eyeing a summer swoop for Sunderland's breakthrough young stopper, given the interest that is held in their own goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario.

It's thought that Italian giants Inter Milan are interested in bringing Vicario back to his home nation after a three-year stint in London, where he has largely impressed for Spurs as their first-choice goalkeeper, winning the Europa League along the way.

Any move to the San Siro would leave a void in their goalkeeping circuit, and with Roefs having been arguably the most-impressive goalkeeper in the Premier League this season, Spurs have made Roefs a target ahead of a potential summer swoop.

Roefs, described as 'quick', cost just £11million from Eredivisie outfit NEC Nijmegen over the summer, and he's been an ever-present for the Black Cats, recording seven clean sheets in the Premier League from just 23 games.

His impressive catalogue of saves have been a huge reason for Sunderland's form and their surprise rise up the league this season, but being under contract until 2030, the Dutchman could cost Tottenham a pretty penny if they are to sign him, should Vicario leave for the San Siro.

Roefs has made the second-most saves in the Premier League this season, behind only Burnley's Martin Dubravka - and when you compare where the two clubs are in the table, it's clear that Roefs' effect has stopped Sunderland sliding down the table.

At just 23 years of age, he's bound to earn a Netherlands cap in the future, having already been called up to the national team, and a move to Tottenham could propel him further at Premier League level.

European involvement is expected from the Lilywhites under the Lewis family - though that may not be the case this season due to poor form.

You could be forgiven for not knowing the name Mohamed Kader Meite. Tottenham Hotspur are well aware of the teenager, however, and are tracking his situation at Rennes ahead of making a transfer move.

Meite only turned 18 in October and is already turning heads in France. At 6ft 3ins he is a rangy striker who came to the fore as he was introduced to the Rennes first team in the second half of last season.

Brighton, Aston Villa, Brentford and Newcastle have all also scouted the talented teenager, while Crystal Palace seem the most eager to sign him.

Question marks remain over Jean-Philippe Mateta's future at Selhurst Park and the Eagles have already submitted a formal enquiry for Meite, according to Caught Offside.

Scouted writer Jake Entwistle described Meite as "one of the most exciting prospects in Europe" in a dive into the '21 minutes that broke the Internet'. That was in relation to his cameo against Lyon in September in which he scored one and helped create one in a dazzling display from the substitutes' bench. Al Hilal Make Bid For Striker

It is easy to see why there is such interest in the teenager, who could command a transfer fee of more than £30million, should any of the Premier League clubs make a move to sign him.

Saudi Arabia Pro League side Al Hilal have reportedly tabled a £35million bid to sign him, but he is thought to prefer staying in Europe to aid his development, as opposed to going to the Middle East at this stage of his career.

Improvement Imperative for Spurs' Recruitment

Tottenham will, of course, be desperate to turn things around in the coming weeks and months, and it's going to be imperative if they want to attract a higher calibre of player in the future. As it stands, Spurs are competing in the Champions League after winning the Europa League, but they are on course to fail to qualify for European competition.

As it stands, Thomas Frank's side are sitting in 14th position in the Premier League table, 10 points off the top four. They are still in with an outside chance of qualifying for Europe, but they've certainly not been good enough so far this campaign.

The report by TEAMtalk states that Spurs have seen an enquiry for Kang-in Lee knocked back in the past month, with Paris Saint-Germain making it clear that the South Korean star won't be leaving the Parc des Princes.

Spurs are thought to be 'actively searching' for an attacking star who can operate off the left wing, or across the front line of their attack.

And, although they have landed upon the likes of Kenan Yildiz, Rodrygo, Ademola Lookman and Savinho among others, Kang-in Lee is still seemingly their top target given his 'game-changing' qualities.

The South Korean is one of PSG's standout creative players, but with a host of players ahead of him in the pecking order, Kang-in could well decide to move to Spurs for first-team minutes.

He's not started in the Champions League, and has only started 11 of PSG's games in Ligue 1, registering just five goal contributions in all competitions as a result of his lack of minutes.

Spurs already have a good grasp of the South Korean market, having had the nation's best-ever player, Son Heung-min, in their ranks for over a decade. Kang-in could fill the void that Son left after departing for Los Angeles FC over the summer.

Luis Enrique Still Values Kang-in Lee, Squad Players Are Vital

However, PSG are adamant that Lee won't be allowed to leave, with Luis Enrique being a strong admirer of the 24-year-old star, especially his squad status given that PSG will be competing for silverware this season.

The French outfit went top of the league for the first time in almost two months over the weekend after beating Auxerre, and although they were knocked out of the Coupe de France by neighbours Paris FC, they'll still need Kang-in across the season.

That could be a major blow for Spurs, who have seen Thomas Frank struggle for goals this season, and it could impact the Dane heading into the campaign as he fights for his job.

The report by Fabrizio Romano, via The Spurs Express, states that Juventus have called about Randal Kolo Muani over the past 24 hours, with the striker having had a poor start to life at Tottenham.

There are two issues with any potential deal, though. Thomas Frank won't want to lose any more players, especially in an attacking sense - and Juventus' relationship with PSG has been described as 'frosty', given the breakdown in summer talks over Kolo Muani, who cost the Champions League holders £65million.

That makes PSG hesitant to negotiate with the Italian giants again, and so it may well be that Kolo Muani stays at Tottenham, even though he's yet to score in the top-flight.

Kolo Muani Has Been a Huge Negative for Spurs This Season

Kolo Muani's shortcomings are likely to be a major reason for Tottenham's poor form in the Premier League.

Kolo Muani has started 11 games in the league, with his first start in a Tottenham shirt coming against Everton in late October, though he has failed to score in any of his 15 appearances in the division.

Playing up front or off the left-hand side, he's been largely ineffective and as a result, was benched against Burnley at the weekend, being an unused substitute for the first time since mid-September.

In fact, with Dominic Solanke starting over him for the first time in the league this season, it was a sure-fire sign to his future - and with youngsters Mathys Tel and Dane Scarlett being preferred to come on instead.

Once Richarlison is back from injury, he is now seen as fifth-choice striker behind the Brazilian, Tel, Solanke and Scarlett. That may change under a new boss, with Thomas Frank being under the thumb after some poor results in the Premier League and in the domestic cups.
