Forget Simons and Kudus: Tottenham Best Summer Business Wasn’t a Signing - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur fans ended the transfer window absolutely delighted by the business they did during the summer, but it's fair to say that keeping Cristian Romero was arguably the best thing they did.

After Ange Postecoglou led the team to Europa League success and the Champions League he was sacked and replaced by Thomas Frank, who made it a priority to put his stamp on the squad ahead of a big first campaign in north London.

But while the club splashed the cash to bring in Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich, Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig and Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain, their best signing was convincing the Argentine to sign a new contract.

Romero Staying is Tottenham's Best Business

The transfer window saw arrivals, but it also saw captain Heung-Min Son depart after a decade with the club as he moved to join LAFC, which left question marks over the leadership that remained in the dressing room.

Further concerns were raised as it was heavily reported that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid were looking to sign Romero to bolster their defence, with some reports even claiming that the defender had already agreed personal terms.

He also didn't rule out a move, admitting during a public interview that he dreamed of playing in La Liga at some point in his career.

But Spurs worked hard to convince him that the Premier League and Spurs are the place to be for the key years of his career, and eventually the World Cup winner signed a new long-term contract until 2029, which has made him the club's highest-paid player.

In addition to that he has been made the permanent captain of the club, cementing himself as a key player in the manager's plans and now Spurs will be heading into the Champions League with no question marks over the future of key players.

It would likely have gone a long way to convincing some other players to join and stay at the club, as it shows that a world-class player is prepared to commit his prime years to the club, which will always look good.

Spurs have started the season well, with Romero in strong form once more, and that has further contributed to the belief that while they had a great transfer window, keeping him at the club was the best bit of business Tottenham did.

Fabrizio Romano: Update on Tottenham Selling Yves Bissouma

Fabrizio Romano: Update on Tottenham Selling Yves Bissouma - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are not trying to actively offload Yves Bissouma as it stands, with his situation going quiet, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed, writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter.

Bissouma has struggled for minutes at Spurs recently, and is yet to feature for Thomas Frank's side in the Premier League this season. Tottenham boss Frank previously admitted that he was forced to leave Bissouma out of their squad to face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup due to persistent lateness...

"Bissouma isn't here because of disciplinary reasons. He has been late several times, the latest one too many. We need to give love and have demands but there have to be consequences. There's a been a consequence, we will follow it up when we get home and park it for now."

It might come as a surprise that he remained at Spurs past the English transfer window deadline, and there's a chance he remains with the club until at least January.

Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano has confirmed that Tottenham aren't trying to actively offload Bissouma as it stands. The Spurs midfielder's situation has gone quiet, meaning he could remain at the club over the coming months. When asked if Spurs were trying to sell Bissouma, Romano responded...

"No, at the moment it’s gone quiet."

Bissouma is reportedly earning £100,000-a-week at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and considering he's not featuring in Frank's plans at the moment, it would make sense for the two parties to head in different directions. The signing of Joao Palhinha has pushed Bissouma further down the pecking order in north London, and it seems unlikely that he's going to break into Frank's side.

Tottenham travel to West Ham United this weekend as they prepare for the return of Premier League action. Frank's side suffered defeat last time out, losing 1-0 at home to Bournemouth after a disappointing performance. Spurs started the season in superb fashion, beating Burnley comfortably on the opening day before winning against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in their second game.

New signings Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani, who both joined towards the end of the summer transfer window, could be involved, but they won't have trained too much with Spurs due to the international break.

Tottenham Eyeing Move to Sign Former Player to Help UEFA Homegrown Quota

Tottenham Eyeing Move to Sign Former Player to Help UEFA Homegrown Quota - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are considering a January transfer window move to re-sign former player and Sunderland full-back Dennis Cirkin, according to a report from TBR Football.

Although Spurs brought in a host of new players to improve Thomas Frank's squad, they failed to add another defender. Joao Palhinha, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Randal Kolo Muani all signed on the dotted line at Tottenham, with all four players likely to make an immediate impact and become regular starters under Frank.

Despite the summer transfer window closing last week, work will already be underway for clubs to get their ducks in order ahead of the winter market. Spurs will be hoping to see their side in a strong position heading towards January and in a place where they don't need to make drastic changes to their squad, but they'll need to plan ahead just in case things don't go as planned.

Tottenham Eyeing January Move to Sign Dennis Cirkin

According to a report from TBR Football, Tottenham are eyeing a January move to sign Cirkin frrom Sunderland, with the north London club currently assessing left-back options in preparation for the winter window. Spurs are looking to bring in players to help bolster their homegrown quote for UEFA competitions, after they were forced to omit Mathys Tel from their Champions League squad.

Tottenham could only name a 22-man squad for their group stage of the competition due to their lack of homegrown and club-trained players, and with Cirkin coming through the academy at Spurs, he would count as a club-trained player. Frank's side were considering a move to sign Cirkin in the summer, but a move failed to materialise, and they could now reignite that interest when the winter market opens.

Cirkin, who left Tottenham in 2021, is out of contract next summer, and he's unwilling to sign a new contract, he could be available at a reasonable price. The 23-year-old is no longer a guaranteed starter at Sunderland after the summer transfer window, with Reinildo brought to the club. As a result, it wouldn't be a surprise if he was keen on a departure, but it certainly wouldn't be easy for him to break into the Spurs starting XI, with the likes of Djed Spence, Destiny Udogie, and Ben Davies as left-back options.

Ange Postecoglou Accepts Nottingham Forest Job After Lengthy Marinakis Talks

Ange Postecoglou Accepts Nottingham Forest Job After Lengthy Marinakis Talks - GiveMeSport
Description

Ange Postecoglou has accepted the Nottingham Forest job following the departure of Nuno Espirto Santo on Monday evening.

The former Tottenham Hotspur head coach will take charge of Saturday's trip to Arsenal after being named the preferred choice of Tricky Trees owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Postecoglou Held Discussions Since August

Informal talks between Marinakis and Postecoglou have been ongoing since August. Nuno's position at Nottingham Forest has been viewed as untenable since he spoke of a broken relationship with Marinakis, which sources say caught the hierarchy by surprise.

The arrival of Edu as global head of football caused a change in dynamic, with Nuno no longer viewed as a fit. He was unhappy with some of the club's business this summer, including the failure to sign Adama Traore, which led to a row with Edu despite the Brazilian making it clear it was Fulham who were blocking a deal and not him.

Postecoglou has been out of management since leaving Tottenham after winning the Europa League, the north Londoners' first major trophy in 17 years. But a 17th-place finish in the Premier League, with a club-record 22 losses, ultimately still led to his departure.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Ange Postecoglou guided Tottenham Hotspur to 47 wins during his 101-match reign

Marinakis was recently pictured with Postecoglou at an awards ceremony in Greece and praised the 60-year-old on stage.

"What I want to say about Ange is that he is proud to be Greek and, in the great success he had with Tottenham by winning the Europa League, he spoke about Greece,” said Marinakis. "He is a man who not only does not hide his origin but is proud of it. What he achieved, he did with a [Tottenham] team that has not won any titles."

Nottingham Forest see appeal in Postecoglou's attack-minded style of play. Marinakis is believed to have held concerns over Nuno's football philosophy even though he guided the Tricky Trees to Europe and was one of the managers of the season last campaign.

Marinakis is keen to implement a more fluid and eye-catching style of football that can be replicated across his entire group. Postecoglou is expected to bring several members of his Tottenham coaching staff with him. His former assistant Mile Jedinak is one name under discussion.

And former Spurs chief football officer Scott Munn is another name in line for a role, with Postecoglou intent on linking up with the Australian again.

As Marinakis expands his mutli-club network, and with Nottingham Forest sporting director Ross Wilson widely expected to move to Newcastle United, it is believed Marinakis is open to Munn's arrival in the coming weeks or months.

Tottenham Receive Injury Boost Ahead of West Ham as Star Back in Training

Tottenham Receive Injury Boost Ahead of West Ham as Star Back in Training - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur's defensive ranks will be improved upon in the coming weeks, the club have revealed - with footage on their X (formerly Twitter) account showing that Romanian defender Radu Dragusin is back in team training after a huge injury layoff.

Spurs massively struggled with injuries last season in their worst-ever Premier League campaign, only managing to finish 17th in the top-flight under Ange Postecoglou - and whilst performances weren't great, that was due to the likes of diminutive teenager Archie Gray having to fill in whilst out of position at centre-back, essentially seeing them plummet in the Premier League.

Video: Tottenham Star Dragusin Now in Training, Could Return This Weekend

However, Dragusin is set to return to action in north London after an injury eight months ago - and he's taken the current international break to prove his full fitness, with Tottenham releasing a 43-second-long video of Dragusin being back in training.

Dragusin's injury has been ongoing since the end of January, where he suffered a cruciate ligament tear in the Europa League home win over Elfsborg - but he'll now return to action to help out at the back, starting with the weekend's Premier League clash with London rivals West Ham United.

Spurs star Dragusin joined them 18 months ago from Serie A side Genoa, and made his mark by stepping into their ranks from the get-go as they finished fifth under Postecoglou in 2023/24.

Starting four games in the Premier League, he won two and lost two of those, whilst he was also one of their starting defenders in the Europa League, as well as being a regular feature after Micky van de Ven's layoff from injury, before suffering a knee injury himself.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Radu Dragusin has 27 caps for Romania, scoring once.

Dragusin, on paper, is likely the backup to Cristian Romero and Van de Ven, but there is no denying that Tottenham will look to benefit massively from Dragusin playing in the top-flight and the Champions League for rotation, alongside other backup star Kevin Danso.

Dragusin already has a lot of experience at the age of just 23. 40 appearances in Serie A, 25 in the Premier League and eight in European competitions have seen him marked as one of Romania's finest products in years - and he'll be hoping to tally up those appearances under Frank this season with Tottenham competing on all fronts.

Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham's Transfer Strategy Changing After Daniel Levy Exit

Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham's Transfer Strategy Changing After Daniel Levy Exit - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are set for a new era without Daniel Levy, but it's unclear how their transfer business will now be impacted, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed, writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter.

It was confirmed last week that Levy would be leaving Tottenham after more than 20 years at the club. Spurs are now set to head in a new direction, with rumours swirling that a takeover could be imminent. Reports later confirmed that Tottenham sources have said that the Lewis family won't be selling the club, while Amanda Staveley is set to release a statement suggesting that she won't be looking to purchase Spurs.

Tottenham and Levy have gone hand-in-hand in their recent history, and it's going to be strange to see the parties not associated going forward. Whether it will be a positive for the club remains to be seen.

Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham Transfer Business After Levy Exit

Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano was asked whether Levy's departure could impact Tottenham's transfer business going forward, after reports claimed they could start to offer higher wages. Romano suggests that it's too early to tell how their business will change, as we have to see how the new management will handle their recruitment.

"Nothing about this is decided yet; now we have to see how new management will be handling this, but it’s too early to say."

It was a relatively strong summer transfer window for Spurs, who heavily focused on bringing in players to instantly improve their starting XI. Over the last few years, Tottenham's recruitment strategy has been to sign up-and-coming stars for the future, but this summer, they leaned more towards signing ready-made players after a disappointing 2024/2025 season.

Joao Palhinha, who signed on loan from Bayern Munich, and Mohammed Kudus, who joined the club from London rivals West Ham United, have already made an instant impact under Thomas Frank. Randal Kolo Muani and Xavi Simons also signed on the dotted line later in the window, but they are yet to make their debuts for the club.

Tottenham are now heading in a new direction without Levy at the helm, and it's going to be interesting to discover whether their recruitment strategy drastically changes in the near future, especially if a takeover does take place over the next few years.

Tottenham Turn Down Two Takeover Approaches Following Levy Exit

Tottenham Turn Down Two Takeover Approaches Following Levy Exit - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur owners ENIC have rejected two approaches to buy their 87 per cent stake following the departure of executive chairman Daniel Levy.

Amanda Staveley's PCP International Finance and a consortium called Firehawk Holdings Limited, led by Dr Roger Kennedy and Wing-Fai Ng, both made initial outreach to buy Spurs last week. But, in a statement, the north Londoners say both preliminary expressions of interest were "unequivocally rejected".

Staveley Set to Release Statement Over Spurs

“The Board of the Club and ENIC confirm that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale and ENIC has no intention to accept any such offer to acquire its interest in the Club,” a Spurs statement read.

Former Newcastle United owner Staveley and Hong Kong-based Firehawk Holdings Limited are now both obligated under UK takeover rules to make a statement by October 5, regardless of whether they intend to bid or not.

Staveley is expected to release her statement imminently, with confirmation that she won't proceed. Although there may be caveats, if she confirms she has no plans to place an offer, Staveley can't change her position for six months.

Sources close to the Lewis family insist, as per the club statement, Tottenham is "not for sale". ENIC owns almost 87 per cent of the capital club. British businessman Joe Lewis and his family own the majority of ENIC, while around 30 per cent is held by Levy and his family.

Levy’s departure means the Lewis family are now taking a more hands-on role in running Spurs. Lewis' children Charlie and Vivienne are particularly involved, as is his grandson-in-law Nick Beucher, who is co-chief executive of Tavistock.

New non-executive chairman Peter Charrington and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham are viewed as the key and most influential day-to-day figures. Charrington already held several meetings with staff to assess the club prior to Levy's exit.

Since just over 13 per cent of Tottenham's non-ENIC shares are publicly traded, the club is duty bound to disclose expressions of interest, while potential suitors must also declare their intentions regardless of whether they bid.

Suggestions there is also a Qatari bidder waiting in the wings, following the failed attempt by Sheikh Jassim to buy Manchester United, are denied by sources.

BBC Journalist: Lewis Family Say Tottenham 'Not for Sale' After Levy Exit

BBC Journalist: Lewis Family Say Tottenham 'Not for Sale' After Levy Exit - GiveMeSport
Description

The Lewis family insist that Tottenham is not for sale, despite questions over the club’s hierarchy arising after Daniel Levy’s shock exit, BBC journalist Sami Mokbel has revealed.

Levy departed his role as executive chairman last week, ending his near 25-year tenure in North London, which made him the Premier League’s longest-serving chairman.

The 63-year-old’s departure triggered speculation that a takeover bid could be imminent, but, according to Mokbel, sources close to the Lewis family insist the club is not on the market.

The Tottenham board issued a statement on Sunday, claiming it had ‘unequivocally rejected’ two expressions of interest in acquiring the club – one from former Newcastle United shareholder Amanda Staveley’s PCP International Finance Limited.

Staveley is expected to release a statement on Monday declaring she has no intention of lodging a bid for the club, despite recent speculation linking her Qatari-backed consortium with a takeover.

Staveley Set to Issue Tottenham Statement

Mokbel, writing on X, revealed that the Lewis family maintain their stance that Tottenham is not for sale, with Staveley expected to confirm she does not intend to bid for the club:

UK businessman Joe Lewis and his family own the majority of ENIC, which holds almost an 87% stake in Tottenham, with the remaining shares owned by a group of minority investors.

Levy, who departed his role as Tottenham’s executive chairman on Thursday, reportedly owns a stake of almost 30% in ENIC, while Lewis, ENIC’s majority owner, transferred control of his stake in Spurs to his family trust in 2022.

Staveley was repeatedly linked with a move to buy Tottenham through PCP International Finance over the past 12 months, while early in 2023 Iranian-American billionaire Jahm Najafi was also said to be readying an approach, reportedly worth £3.1bn.

Any potential takeover of Spurs, no matter the bidder, would reportedly have to exceed £3.5bn in value to be considered acceptable, according to reports.

Bid Made: Tottenham Have Chance of Signing 'Superstar' After Daniel Levy Exit - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur could have the perfect opportunity to sign Real Madrid winger Rodrygo now Daniel Levy has left the club, with Spurs now set to increase their wage budget.

It was confirmed earlier this week that Levy would be leaving the club after more than 20 years at the helm, in a move that came as a huge shock to many Tottenham supporters. For a large portion of fans, Levy being in charge of the club is all they've known, and they are now set to enter a new era without him.

It was an impressive summer transfer window for Spurs, bringing in four senior players who are all likely to have a major impact this season and have every chance of becoming regular starters. Mohammed Kudus, Joao Palinha, Randal Kolo Muani, and Xavi Simons have all arrived through the door at Tottenham as they prepare for a campaign back in the Champions League.

Tottenham Have Chance of Signing Real Madrid's Rodrygo

During the summer transfer window, reports claimed that Tottenham had submitted an offer to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid, worth in the region of £87m. The Brazilian's high wage demands ruled Spurs out of the running, with many pointing aim at Levy for Spurs struggles to attract players in recent years due to not offering high enough wages.

That could all be about to change after Levy's exit, with Football Insider claiming that Tottenham are now set to offer higher wages to new additions. This could boost their chances of signing a player of Rodrygo's calibre, with a previous report claiming that he could demand in the region of £350,000-a-week.

If Tottenham are set to break their wage structure in order to attract new signings, then it wouldn't be a surprise to see them make a move to sign Rodrygo, who was described as a 'superstar' by former team-mate Luka Modric, again. Spurs won't want to alter their strategy completely and spend too much on wages, but it could allow them to shop in a different market.

Levy did an excellent job of keeping Tottenham ran well as a business, but there's certainly an argument to suggest he could have done more in terms of being able to attract a higher calibre of player.

Tottenham could reignite their interest in Aston Villa star midfielder Morgan Rogers in 2026, journalist Dean Jones has revealed.

The North London side were looking at a potential move for the England international in the summer transfer window, and could reportedly re-emerge as more serious contenders next year.

Rogers is a player Tottenham admire greatly, as they gave serious thought to signing him in the closing stages of the market before turning their focus towards Randal Kolo Muani, who joined on loan from PSG on deadline day.

Spurs are believed to have made contact for Rogers through intermediaries late in the window, but ultimately withdrew from talks, as Villa were reluctant to sell the 23-year-old midfielder at the time.

The Lilywhites splashed over £180m on new arrivals this summer, with Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha also joining, while permanent deals were struck for Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso.

Spurs Target Villa’s Morgan Rogers

According to Jones, Villa are expected to increase their valuation of Rogers to around £100m from the new year onwards, as they want to reflect his growing importance under Unai Emery.

Although such a fee was seen as unrealistic under Daniel Levy’s reign, Tottenham are now suggested to be willing to push their finances to secure a marquee signing, potentially of Rogers’ calibre and overall potential.

The North London side saw Levy depart his role of executive chairman after almost 25 years at the club on Thursday, with director of ENIC, Peter Charrington, named as Tottenham’s new non-executive chairman.

Levy was the Premier League's longest-serving chairman, having been appointed in March 2001.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Rogers has won six caps for England to date.

Jones claims Tottenham are not the only ones looking at Rogers as a potential addition in 2026, as Premier League rivals Chelsea are also interested and monitoring the 23-year-old’s situation very closely.

Rogers has blossomed into one of the Premier League’s best attacking midfielders since joining Villa in January 2024 from Middlesbrough, winning the PFA Young Player of the Year last month.

The ‘incredible’ England international has scored 17 goals and provided 17 assists in 73 appearances for Villa to date, including 19 goal contributions in the Premier League last term.
