Description

Tottenham Hotspur face a daunting trip to Anfield this weekend, with Igor Tudor still searching for his first win in charge as Spurs attempt to end a long wait for victory on Liverpool’s ground. Let’s take a look at our predicted Tottenham XI.

Tottenham Hotspur managed a victory against Liverpool last season in the first leg of their Carabao Cup encounter.

In the Premier League, however, one has to go back to September 2023 for the last time Spurs beat Liverpool in the English top flight.

A victory at Anfield has also been hard to come by for the Lilywhites, who are winless on the Reds’ ground for 15 years.

That is the task in front of Igor Tudor, who is searching for his first Tottenham win. Picking the right personnel could improve his chances, and we have attempted to predict his starting XI ahead of Sunday’s clash.

Tottenham predicted XI vs Liverpool as Igor Tudor faces selection calls

Goalkeeper – Guglielmo Vicario: The Italian was dropped against Atletico Madrid for Kinsky, but the Czech did not take advantage of the opportunity, and Tudor replaced him in the 16th minute with Vicario. We do not expect such rotation on Sunday, and Vicario should start.

Right-back – Pedro Porro: The full-back was one of the Spurs players who showed some fight against Atletico Madrid, grabbing a goal and an assist, and he should continue here.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Centre-back – Kevin Danso: The Austrian continues to remain Mr Reliable and, with Cristian Romero a doubt after a clash of heads with Joao Palhinha and given concussion protocols, we expect him to fill in for the Spurs captain.

Centre-back – Radu Dragusin: Micky van de Ven is suspended following his red card against Crystal Palace and that should see Dragusin come in.

Centre-back – Djed Spence: The defender finally made his return after a calf injury against Atletico Madrid, which now puts him in contention for a league start here.

Centre midfielder – Archie Gray: The youngster remains one of the bright sparks at Tottenham and we do not expect him to be dropped for this encounter. If Spurs got with a back three, he will likely be a RWB. If Tudor goes for a back four, Gray will be in midfield.

Centre midfielder – Pape Matar Sarr: Spurs will need energy in the middle of the park and that is something Sarr offers, so we expect him to line up in midfield.

Centre midfielder – Conor Gallagher: Tudor will have to decide between Simons or Gallagher, but the former Atletico Madrid man might just edge it, especially if Tudor prefers to play with three central midfielders rather than using a No.10.

Left winger – Mathys Tel: The Frenchman remains the only natural wide option on the left and, as such, he could start here.

Striker – Dominic Solanke: The Englishman proved he can score for Spurs, having grabbed a goal from the bench against Atletico Madrid, and should start here.

Harry Redknapp names two managers who could rescue Tottenham from relegation - Spurs Web
Description

Harry Redknapp has weighed in on Tottenham Hotspur’s difficult situation, suggesting two familiar names he believes could help the club avoid relegation if changes are made in the dugout.

While Tottenham Hotspur believed that they did not want to make any more managerial changes following the recent appointment of Igor Tudor, the Croatian’s struggles could force their hand.

Relegation is now a real threat, with just one point separating Spurs and 18th-placed West Ham United, and one defeat combined with wins for West Ham and Nottingham Forest would see Tottenham drop into the relegation zone.

Tudor must ensure that does not happen, but if the former Juventus man cannot stop the rot, his place in the dugout could soon come under threat.

Tottenham relegation fight: Harry Redknapp names Glenn Hoddle and Tim Sherwood

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has now named the two managers he believes could genuinely save Spurs from relegation.

Speaking about possible managerial options who understand the club and could step in if required, Redknapp suggested both Tim Sherwood and Glenn Hoddle as potential figures capable of steadying the situation.

Discussing the matter, Redknapp told TalkSPORT: “Tim would be a good shout now. Tim would be, you know, I think someone like Tim or Glenn Hoddle, even.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Redknapp was also asked whether he would personally consider returning to the club if the opportunity arose.

Responding to that suggestion, he admitted, “Yeah, I’d do it for sure. I mean, I don’t see myself getting it, to be truthful.”

This is not the first time Redknapp has thrown his name in the hat as a managerial option for the Tottenham job.

Spurs may look to familiar faces amid relegation pressure

Glenn Hoddle and Tim Sherwood represent managers who understand what it is like to play for Tottenham, and they could help galvanise this group of players who are short of confidence.

We have seen clubs appoint former players as managers, and the effect it often has is positive. Manchester United, with Michael Carrick thus far this season, is one example.

Archie Gray is phenomenal for Tottenham: Solanke reveals influential behind-the-scenes voice - Spurs Web
Description

Dominic Solanke has highlighted the growing influence of Archie Gray, praising the Tottenham youngster for stepping up as a vocal presence during a difficult campaign.

While the manager in the Tottenham Hotspur dugout has often received most of the flak, there is no denying that this group of Spurs players must step up.

Last season was just as bizarre, but the cracks were papered over by the Europa League triumph that ended Spurs’ near two-decade run without silverware.

However, when there is no improvement on the pitch, no one is totally shielded from criticism, and the Tottenham players have had their fair share of it this campaign.

Tottenham star Dominic Solanke praises Archie Gray leadership

Results need to improve, and performances must be better if Spurs are to avoid the drop this term. Dominic Solanke has now opened up on how impressive Archie Gray has been for Spurs in their fight for survial this season.

Gray has received praise from Tottenham fans for his recent displays, with many seeing him as the best of a poor bunch.

The youngster has now turned 20 but has delivered performances beyond his years on the pitch, showing how far he has developed and how quickly he is becoming a leader.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking to Sky Sports about Gray’s impact, Solanke praised the young midfielder and highlighted both his versatility and his growing influence within the squad.

He said: “He’s a phenomenal player, great guy and he’s one of the boys that has been speaking as well, which he has every right to. I think you have seen him play all over the pitch this season, so he is such a versatile player and he is still so young.

“So it is great to have him in the team and he has got so much potential. Even now you can see how much he adds to the team as well.”

Spurs dressing room unity highlighted by Dominic Solanke

Solanke also offered an insight into the Tottenham dressing room as the squad looks to navigate a difficult period with relegation concerns looming.

Discussing whether Gray has been vocal inside the dressing room, Solanke explained how players across the squad have been encouraged to speak up as they attempt to pull together.

He added: “Yeah, 100 per cent. I think, like I mentioned, us older boys have been talking but recently we know that the position we are in we need everyone to speak and everyone to help each other.

“Because it is not just a few of us that are going to try to get us out of it, it is the whole team, so we want to try to build a bigger connection with everyone and everyone has the right to speak.”

One defeat and Tottenham are relegated: Martin Keown sends huge warning to Spurs - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s alarming run of form has intensified relegation fears, with Martin Keown now weighing in on the club’s chances of survival.

Tottenham Hotspur’s inconsistencies from the start of the Premier League season have landed them in hot water as they run the risk of losing their Premier League status.

The Lilywhites have managed just seven wins in 29 league games this season and have lost a staggering 14 matches.

In their last 11 outings in the Premier League, Tottenham have not tasted victory and remain winless in 2026.

In fact, since the turn of the year, Spurs have statistically been the worst team in the English top flight, and it is no surprise they are embroiled in a relegation scrap.

Tottenham relegation fears addressed by Martin Keown

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has now given his prediction on whether Tottenham will be able to avoid going down to the Championship this season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking to talkSPORT during a studio discussion, Keown shared his honest assessment of Spurs and their fight for survival.

During the conversation about Tottenham’s position, Simon Jordan first suggested the club are in danger before Keown gave his own view on the situation and the challenges ahead for Igor Tudor’s side.

Speaking on whether Tottenham are in mortal danger, Simon Jordan said: “Yeah I think they are. The only thing that will keep Spurs up at this moment in time is if the other teams beneath them do not close the gap.”

Commenting on Tudor’s time so far, he added: “He went hard after the players and it did not get much of a reaction did it.”

Keown then chimed in: “I think he has been put in a perilous position. Liverpool away next in the Premier League, I mean that is a huge game for them. Then they play Forest, you know what I mean, that is like a winner takes all match. If they lose that game then I think they are gone.”

Spurs face crucial fixtures in relegation battle

Of course, the former Arsenal man is right in his assessment of what comes next for Tottenham. With nine games left in the league, the margin for error is extremely low for the Lilywhites, especially when those below them are in much better form.

One point is currently the difference between Spurs and West Ham United in 18th place, and that is far from a comfortable lead.

Should Tottenham drop points against Liverpool at Anfield, they run the risk of slipping below those dreaded dotted lines.

However, their blushes might be spared this week, as West Ham themselves are up against Manchester City.

How Tottenham could line up in Sean Dyche 4-4-2: Richarlison and Solanke up top

How Tottenham could line up in Sean Dyche 4-4-2: Richarlison and Solanke up top - Spurs Web
Description

Sean Dyche has been mentioned as a possible option for Tottenham Hotspur, and if the experienced manager were to arrive in north London, his preferred system could bring a very different look to the Spurs side.

Sean Dyche is one of several names that have been linked with a move to Tottenham this season, given the struggles of Igor Tudor.

The former Burnley and Everton boss has built a reputation as someone capable of keeping a struggling team afloat during the course of a season.

That is exactly what Tottenham are in desperate need of as they look to retain their Premier League status this campaign.

But should the 54-year-old make the switch to north London, how could he set his team up? Let us find out.

Tottenham line-up Sean Dyche could use in a 4-4-2 system

We do know that Sean Dyche’s teams are hard to beat and that is down to them being defensively solid.

Spurs could very much benefit from that, given how fragile they have been at the back in recent weeks, conceding a whopping 15 goals in their last four games under Tudor.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Dyche also prefers to set up in a 4-4-2 formation, and that could be ideal for the players he has at his disposal.

We could very much see him go with Guglielmo Vicario in goal, given that he will place little emphasis on building from the back, which is far from the Italian’s strength.

In defence, we can expect a back four comprising Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Kevin Danso and Djed Spence.

Romero’s no-nonsense style could work well under Dyche, and Danso’s reliability could be favoured over Micky van de Ven, who is struggling for form. Romero could take on the Tarkowski role.

In the middle of the park, the former Everton boss could well turn to the energetic Conor Gallagher, while Archie Gray plays alongside him, with both midfielders offering offensive and defensive cover.

Out wide, Mohammed Kudus, who is nearing a return, could be deployed on the right, with Mathys Tel the only wide left option to cover in that spot.

We could then see Richarlison and Dominic Solanke lead the line for Dyche, who often prefers physicality in his attack, as was the case with Chris Wood during his Burnley days.

Thibaut Courtois reveals message he sent Antonin Kinsky after Tottenham horror show - Spurs Web
Description

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has revealed he reached out to Tottenham’s Antonin Kinsky following his tough Champions League outing against Atletico, while also suggesting another factor may have contributed to the result.

Tottenham Hotspur suffered an embarrassing 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash on Tuesday night.

It was a chaotic evening at the Metropolitano Stadium, where the surface appeared unusually slippery throughout the match. In fact, three of the goals conceded came after players lost their footing, with two of those unfortunate moments involving Spurs debutant Antonin Kinsky.

Much to the request of many Tottenham supporters, Igor Tudor opted to drop Guglielmo Vicario from the starting XI after weeks of inconsistent performances domestically, handing the 22-year-old Kinsky his first-ever Champions League start.

However, it quickly turned into a night to forget for the Czech. Kinsky gifted two goals to the hosts inside the opening 15 minutes after slipping while attempting to play out from the back, prompting Tudor to hurriedly bring Vicario on as his replacement.

Despite the nightmare debut, the young goalkeeper received widespread backing across the football world. Spurs supporters were joined by several big names, including David De Gea, who publicly voiced support for the youngster.

Now, Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois has also joined the list of players rallying behind Kinsky.

Thibaut Courtois reveals message he sent Tottenham’s Antonin Kinsky

After Real Madrid’s 3-0 victory over Manchester City in their own Champions League round of 16 fixture, Thibaut Courtois revealed that he had privately reached out to Kinsky on Instagram to offer support.

“I sent him a message on Instagram because it’s tough. It’s hard mentally… But he’s well surrounded by his club, so this will work out.

“I also made mistakes at Atletico and Chelsea. And when Messi once nutmegged me twice in the same game, I got a lot of flak too.

“It wasn’t as bad as it was for him, but I know this is very difficult. I told him to see it as a learning experience. He has talent and needs to keep working hard. That’s the way.

“The fact that he was in goal also means the coach had a lot of confidence in him.”

Courtois also suggested that the conditions at Atletico’s stadium may have played a role in the chaotic evening. He said: “Ultimately, I think the pitch is causing more problems, not just for Tottenham but for many teams that have played there.”

Thibaut Courtois questions Igor Tudor’s handling of Antonin Kinsky

The Belgian was also among those who appeared unconvinced by Igor Tudor’s decision to substitute Kinsky so early in the match.

Courtois joined the likes of Joe Hart, who strongly criticised Tudor’s man-management and labelled the decision “Sunday league action”, as well as legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, who accused the Croatian boss of ‘killing the youngster’s career’.

“That was a tough one, because he could easily have had another great match afterwards and no one would talk about those blunders anymore,” Courtois added.

“But being a goalkeeper is just a difficult position. We’re so vulnerable, which isn’t always easy. If we make a mistake, it usually leads to a goal.”

Ange Postecoglou Tottenham return: Europa League winner gives two word response

Ange Postecoglou Tottenham return: Europa League winner gives two word response - Spurs Web
Description

Europa League-winning manager Ange Postecoglou has addressed the possibility of returning to Tottenham amid growing uncertainty surrounding Igor Tudor’s future in North London.

It has been a disastrous start for Tottenham’s interim boss Igor Tudor, whose side have now lost all four of his opening games in charge.

Having taken over what was already a difficult situation following Thomas Frank’s departure last month, Tudor’s task was a fairly simple one on paper: keep Tottenham in the Premier League. Yet the reality is becoming increasingly uncomfortable, with Spurs now sitting just one point above the relegation zone.

Doubts around the Croatian’s future intensified further after Tottenham’s embarrassing 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie earlier this week, although the result was largely down to costly individual errors.

Despite the pressure, no immediate action is expected from the Spurs hierarchy. The club have already confirmed that Tudor will remain in the dugout for Sunday’s trip to Anfield – a ground where Tottenham have not won since 2011.

Another defeat there would only increase the scrutiny surrounding the interim manager, who has already found himself at the centre of criticism following the events in Madrid.

Tudor’s decision to substitute 22-year-old Antonin Kinsky just 15 minutes into his Champions League debut after two costly errors sparked backlash from several high-profile figures, including Joe Hart, Peter Schmeichel and Thibaut Courtois.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Croatian boss also drew attention for failing to acknowledge the young goalkeeper as he walked down the tunnel in tears, accompanied by a few teammates and a member of the coaching staff.

In fact, Tudor did not acknowledge any of Tottenham’s substitutes on the evening, with the exception of Djed Spence – whose unusual interaction with the manager on the touchline caught the eye of supporters.

Reports have since suggested that a number of Spurs players are already beginning to lose faith in Tudor as the uncertainty around his future continues to grow.

Ange Postecoglou responds when asked about a possible Tottenham return

One man who still remains a hugely popular figure among Tottenham supporters and inside the dressing room is Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian was only recently in charge of the North London club before being dismissed just weeks after leading Spurs to Europa League glory. Postecoglou is currently a free agent, which has naturally led some fans to wonder whether a return could ever be on the cards.

Appearing on TNT Sports in Paris ahead of the Champions League clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, Postecoglou was asked a rather direct question: ‘Would you ever go back to an ex?’

The Australian burst into laughter before giving a very brief answer. “No comment,” he said.

Postecoglou repeated the two-word response three times despite those around him jokingly encouraging him to “take your time” before answering.

Ange Postecoglou may not be a favourite among Spurs hierarchy

While many Spurs supporters would welcome Postecoglou back with open arms, the feeling may not necessarily be shared inside the club’s hierarchy.

During an appearance on The Overlap last month, the Australian made several eye-catching remarks about his time in North London, including suggesting that Tottenham are not a “big club” and claiming the club does not spend enough in the transfer market.

Those comments caught the attention of Spurs sporting director Johan Lange, who was rather dismissive of the remarks.

In the same interview, Postecoglou also revealed that returning to previous clubs is not something he has done throughout his managerial career.

Kota Takai returns to Tottenham: Spurs injury crisis extends to loan players

Kota Takai returns to Tottenham: Spurs injury crisis extends to loan players - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham’s Kota Takai has returned to North London after suffering an unexpected misfortune while playing his football in Germany.

Despite joining Tottenham Hotspur last summer, Kota Takai is yet to make an appearance for the club, as he was injured for the first part of this season.

Takai then joined Borussia Mönchengladbach in January in hopes of building up his fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

However, the defender has only made three starts for the Bundesliga team and last month he encountered another problem, which is hindering his development.

Kota Takai returns to Tottenham with another injury

According to Rheinische Post (as relayed by Sport Witness), Takai missed training on Monday in preparation for a weekend clash against St Pauli.

This is because the 21-year-old suffered a strain, which has already caused him to be absent from matches against Union Berlin and Bayern Munich.

As a result, Takai has travelled back to London so Tottenham can conduct ‘further examinations’ on his problem.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The German club’s manager Eugen Polanski said: “He [Takai] was running on Saturday. If he can’t train individually with the ball on the pitch today, it probably won’t be enough. But I’m happy to be proven wrong.”

This comes after Takai struggled during his opening Bundesliga games, but Mönchengladbach saw enough in training to want to keep him long-term.

Spurs do not have a good track record getting players up to speed

It is interesting that Takai is being seen to by the medical staff at Tottenham, considering how badly the club are performing in that area.

Spurs have been absolutely laden with injuries, many of which seem to last for a lot longer than the initial timelines given. Even if the Japanese youngster does get back to match fitness, it is certainly a concern to see how often he picks up injuries.

Harry Redknapp reveals what Daniel Levy told him in ‘strange’ Tottenham chat last week - Spurs Web
Description

Harry Redknapp has revealed he recently spoke with former Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, with the ex-Spurs boss sharing what was said during the conversation about the club’s current situation.

It is safe to say Tottenham Hotspur are in a crisis as they continue to struggle this season amid several changes made within the club.

The changes higher up at Spurs have been well documented, with a new chief executive arriving, Daniel Levy’s departure, and the two sporting director model that lasted for a while before Fabio Paratici’s exit.

On the pitch, changes were also made in the dugout despite Ange Postecoglou’s silverware exploits last season, with Thomas Frank taking charge before he was axed after eight months.

Igor Tudor now reigns, but his tenure has been just as bleak, with Tottenham losing all four of their matches under his tutelage.

Tottenham crisis: Harry Redknapp reveals Daniel Levy conversation

There are still cries for change as the so-called ninth richest club run the risk of losing everything, with Tottenham embroiled in a relegation scrap that has them just one point above 18th-placed West Ham United.

Harry Redknapp has now confirmed that he has spoken with former chairman Daniel Levy. Apparently, if it were in his hands, the ex-Tottenham supremo would turn to Redknapp to help the club through what is a dire situation.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking on talkSPORT, Redknapp explained how the conversation with Levy unfolded and how the unexpected call came about.

He said: “I got a phone call last week from Daniel, funnily enough.

“I think I spoke to him once since I left all that time ago, and I was in the car last week and suddenly the phone goes, it’s Daniel Levy.

“I thought ‘that’s strange’ and I was on the phone to him for about half hour, chatting to him and he was explaining what happened to him, and how he got marched out of there, which was really strange.”

Redknapp then said Levy suggested he would have brought him back to help Tottenham through the current situation.

He continued: “And he did say to me ‘If I was there now, and I’m not just saying it, I would bring you back in until the end of the season, Harry’ – so it would have been interesting.”

Jermain Defoe is ready to help Spurs’ relegation fight

Former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe also phoned in to the Breakfast Show to discuss Tottenham’s current plight.

When asked if he would want to be part of a potential rebuild should Spurs succumb to relegation, the 43-year-old said: “100%, obviously with the boss (Redknapp)!”

Redknapp then replied by joking about the idea of a reunion, adding on the same programme: “He’s my first signing! Do not hold your breath waiting for it to happen, J, because I do not think I will get the phone call, but if I did, I would bring him back for sure.”

Description

A defender who has made 34 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur this season has now joined Destiny Udogie on the radar of Juventus.

It appears that several top clubs in Europe are sensing a market opportunity as Tottenham fight for Premier League survival.

It has been widely reported that both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero face uncertain futures at Spurs, while it has also been claimed that Pedro Porro is in the sights of the European elite.

It has now emerged that another key member of Tottenham’s defensive line has also become a top summer target for a Champions League club.

Juventus eyeing summer move for Tottenham’s Djed Spence

According to a report in Gazzetta dello Sport, Djed Spence is now on the radar of Juventus.

The Bianconeri are expected to offload Andrea Cambiaso and might do the same with Pierre Kalulu, with a full-back high on their agenda, and they have turned their attention to the Tottenham man.

The Old Lady hierarchy sees Spence as a Champions League-proven player and value his versatility very highly.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The report adds that the Lilywhites are expected to demand around €30m (£26m) for the 25-year-old even though he signed a new contract at N17 just last year.

Juventus are also fans of another Spurs full-back

Spence is not the only Tottenham full-back on Juve’s radar, with the Serie A club also being fans of the player currently competing with the England star for Spurs’ left-back spot.

It has emerged over recent days that the Bianconeri are preparing a significant offer for Destiny Udogie ahead of the summer window.
