Thomas Frank denies repeat Tottenham issue despite poor Bodo/Glimt performance - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has admitted that he was disappointed by a couple of aspects of Tottenham’s performance against Bodo/Glimt.

The home side had been on top and had deservedly gone 2-0 up, with the Lilywhites struggling to deal with the waves of pressure from the Norwegian outfit.

However, Tottenham Hotspur showed their character once again, battling back from two goals down to salvage a point for the second time this season.

Thomas Frank admits Tottenham should have been better in possession

The Tottenham head coach praised the character and fight his players showed in the final 25 minutes of the game, remarking that they kept fighting until the end.

However, he admitted that he expected his side to make better use of possession, particularly in the first period and be braver on the ball.

Frank said following Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Bodo/Glimt (via Football.London): “I think it’s definitely big character to fight back. I think that’s hugely important in any team that they have that and keep running, keep fighting, keep doing the right thing.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“And I also think we, even that I think after the 2-0 I think we were in a strange way better. Maybe because Bodo dropped back maybe we took more initiative, you know, sometimes that’s the momentum of the game. But I felt that we kept doing the right thing, we kept moving the ball, kept reducing the situation from the side.

“And showed great character to come back into the game, which I’m very, very pleased with. But big praise to Bodo. I think until the 2-0 they were the best team today. I think after that the game changed a bit and I think we got more on top. And of course scored the 2-1 and then scored the equaliser. So they just showed exactly what I expected from them today.

“Of course, I hope we could have done a little bit more first half. Got a little bit more into the high-pressure in situations. And I would say especially on the ball, I felt we could and should have kept the ball better in situations. Both a little bit of structure, a little bit brave. A little bit on the day where you just need better touches, better decisions, better passes.”

Frank denies Spurs have a first-half problem

Over the last few games, the Lilywhites have made it a bit of a habit to concede the first goal and fight back.

However, Thomas Frank denied that his side are having an issue in the way they start matches, insisting that some of their first-half performances of late have been good.

When asked why Tottenham are struggling to control games at the start, he responded: “That can be various reasons. I think against Wolves we had no problem controlling in the beginning. I think we were by far the best team against Wolves in the first half.

“I think Brighton was a different game. I think also we were by far the best team in the first half. Just conceded one fairly well played goal and as we talk about a game, a goal that should have been conceded. Today I felt we struggled in the first half.

“So I think that’s the only time we struggled in the three games against a very good Bodo team. Up here, a lot of teams will struggle when they play against them here. So it’s just fair play to Bodo.”

Tottenham star nominated for Premier League Goal of the Month after memorable moment - Spurs Web
Description

One Tottenham midfielder has been recognised for his stunning goal with a nomination for the Premier League September Goal of the Month.

Tottenham Hotspur had a mixed run of form in September, with the Lilywhites avoiding defeat across the month but struggling to convert performances into victories.

Their only win came in the London derby against West Ham United, where Thomas Frank’s men delivered a convincing display to secure a 3-0 triumph at the London Stadium.

It was a statement win for Spurs and one that saw three different players find the back of the net, with Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Micky van de Ven all getting on the scoresheet.

Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall nominated for Premier League goal of the month

The Premier League has now confirmed that Bergvall’s 57th-minute effort at the London Stadium has been shortlisted for the September goal of the month award, giving Tottenham supporters the chance to back their youngster in the fan vote.

Bergvall’s strike was a memorable one, and it carried extra significance as it marked his first-ever Premier League goal for Tottenham.

The move started from deep, with Cristian Romero picking out the Swede with a long ball forward, and the teenager showed brilliant composure and timing to meet it with a powerful header that left the goalkeeper rooted.

MORE SPURS STORIES

His goal is in competition with efforts from Martin Zubimendi (Arsenal 3-0 Nottingham Forest), Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool 2-1 Everton), Anton Stach (Wolves 1-3 Leeds), Tyrick Mitchell (West Ham 1-2 Crystal Palace), Harry Wilson (Fulham 3-1 Brentford), Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal 1-1 Manchester City) and Igor Thiago (Brentford 3-1 Manchester United).

Spurs must now build on September progress

While September brought moments of promise, there is still significant room for improvement, and Thomas Frank will undoubtedly be reminding his squad of the levels they need to maintain.

October offers a sterner test with league fixtures against Leeds United, Aston Villa and Everton, and Spurs will need to show greater consistency if they are to build momentum.

Tottenham sign forward to new contract after recent record-breaking appearance - Spurs Web
Description

Luca Williams-Barnett recently broke onto the scene at Tottenham Hotspur and the club have now revealed some exciting news about the teenage talent.

Everyone who follows Tottenham Hotspur will be aware of Luca Williams-Barnett by now. The midfielder, who celebrated his 17th birthday yesterday, has been impressing for the U21 team, and he recently made his Spurs debut.

In fact, Williams-Barnett broke a Tottenham record in the Carabao Cup. He came off the bench in the closing stages against Doncaster Rovers, becoming the youngest ever Spurs player to appear in the competition.

The youngster is yet to start a match for the senior team, but there is plenty of time for him to get his big moment, as confirmed by the club’s latest announcement.

Luca Williams-Barnett has signed a professional contract with Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Williams-Barnett has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The England youth international has been playing for Spurs since joining their under-10s team and it seems Tottenham fans will see plenty of him in the future.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The club statement read: “We are delighted to announce that Luca Williams-Barnett has signed his first professional contract with the club.

“The attacking midfielder, who turned 17 on Wednesday, has shone in our Academy set-up in recent years, having joined us in the Under-10s.

“He was a stand-out player for our Under-18 side last season while still a schoolboy, scoring long-range goals against West Ham, Leicester City and Aston Villa, with the Leicester strike named Under-18 Premier League Goal of the Season.

“He also netted a hat-trick in our 2024/25 Under-17 Premier League Cup final success against Charlton Athletic and recently registered his first treble at Under-21 level in a 6-3 win at Leicester.

“Having been named on the bench for the first team on four occasions last term, Luca made his senior debut as a second-half substitute in last month’s 3-0 home win over Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup.

“He has been capped by England at all levels between Under-15s and Under-18s to date.”

Williams-Barnett must succeed where other Spurs youngsters have failed

Williams-Barnett’s decision to put pen to paper and sign his first professional contract is excellent news, but success in the academy does not always mean a player will thrive in the Tottenham first-team squad.

Dane Scarlett is a player who was often praised for his prolific goalscoring for Tottenham’s under-21s team, but his future at the club looks uncertain.

Mikey Moore is another who looked like the next big thing, but he struggled for minutes in the senior team last season and has had a few dodgy displays since joining Rangers on loan. Although in fairness, the winger is still young and has time to find his feet.

The transition from junior to senior football can be tricky, but hopefully Williams-Barnett will be able to make the leap. If he can do for the Tottenham first-team what he has in Premier League 2, expect goals, creativity and excitement.

Supercomputer reveals Tottenham's chances of qualifying for Champions League knockouts after Bodo/Glimt draw - Spurs Web
Description

Opta’s Supercomputer has revealed whether Tottenham are favourites to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League and where they are likely to finish in the league phase.

Opta predicted that Spurs were favourites to win at Bodo/Glimt, but the Lilywhites had to settle for a point.

In fact, many would feel that they were even lucky to come away with a point as they were second best for large parts of the encounter in Norway.

However, several Tottenham players have said that they are proud of the way they fought back from two goals down against Bodo/Glimt to salvage a point, given that they were staring at the possibility of a defeat with less than 25 minutes left on the clock.

Are Tottenham favourites to make it to the next round of the Champions League?

Ahead of the clash on Tuesday, Opta predicted that Tottenham would finish ninth in the league phase, which means that they would have just missed out on direct passage to the round of 16 and would have made it to the play-off round.

Opta have now revised their predictions after Spurs’ draw at Bodo/Glimt, and their algorithm now predicts that the Lilywhites will finish in 11th place.

Their supercomputer gives Thomas Frank’s men a 63.96 per cent chance of making it to the playoff round and a 28.52 per cent chance of finishing in the top eight and making it directly into the round of 16.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Why Tottenham have to win their next two Champions League games

Tottenham’s last four Champions League fixtures are arguably their hardest, which means that it will be tough for them to make up a deficit in the latter part of the league phase.

The Lilywhites play Monaco away and Copenhagen at home in their next two games, and they would ideally want to win both to give themselves some breathing room.

Thomas Frank’s men will feel that finishing in the top eight is still very much within their grasp, but there are no easy games in this competition as the clash against Bodo/Glimt showed.

Tottenham starlet Yang Min-hyeok opened his account for Portsmouth with a beautiful volley against Watford.

The 19-year-old winger is yet to make his competitive debut for Tottenham Hotspur since arriving at the North London club in January.

Yang was shipped out on loan to QPR for the second half of last season, and he did reasonably well, considering that it was his first taste of English football.

Spurs decided to loan Yang back to the Championship again this summer, with the teenager joining Pompey on loan on this occasion, and he has now made his first significant contribution for the South Coast club.

The on-loan Spurs man made his third Championship appearance of the season on Wednesday, starting on the left wing for Portsmouth at Fratton Park against Watford.

Yang got 63 minutes under his belt as the two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.

The winger opened the scoring for the home side in the fifth minute, stroking an impressive volley from the edge of the box into the bottom corner after a long-throw routine fell kindly to him.

MORE SPURS STORIES

This could be the start of a turnout for Yang at Fratton Park

The Spurs youngster has not had the best of starts to his loan spell at Pompey, struggling to get regular minutes so far this season.

However, this goal will be a major confidence booster and will hopefully get him a run of starts for the Championship outfit.

Description

Tottenham return to Premier League action this weekend as Thomas Frank’s side travel to Elland Road to face newly promoted Leeds United, with Spurs aiming to bounce back after a run of frustrating draws. Here’s how to watch the clash between Tottenham and Leeds.

Tottenham Hotspur have secured three draws from their last four outings, coming from behind in each of those matches to salvage something late on.

Despite those setbacks, Spurs remain inside the top four and are just four points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, who have collected 15 points so far this campaign.

In midweek, Tottenham came from behind yet again to snatch a point against Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League, but the focus now shifts back to domestic duties as Leeds United awaits in the Premier League.

When and where is the game?

Tottenham face Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday, 4 October 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 12:30 (UK time).

How to watch Tottenham vs Leeds United in the UK

Supporters in the United Kingdom can watch Tottenham vs Leeds United live on TNT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate.

Tottenham and Leeds United team news

Spurs continue to deal with injury problems heading into this fixture. Cristian Romero is the latest to be sidelined, with the Spurs captain having not flown to Norway for Spurs’ last Champions League tie, and he remains a doubt for Saturday.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Kota Takai, Ben Davies and Yves Bissouma have returned to first-team training and may be in contention, but Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Radu Dragusin remain unavailable. Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani are also out with minor injuries.

Leeds United have concerns of their own. Goalkeeper Lucas Perri is sidelined with a muscle injury and is not expected back until early October, while forward Wilfried Gnonto is also ruled out with a calf problem, leaving Leeds without two key options for the visit of Spurs.

Spurs Web prediction for Leeds vs Tottenham

There is no doubt Thomas Frank will be demanding a response from his Tottenham players after back-to-back league draws, the most recent coming against bottom-placed Wolves, where Spurs produced a lacklustre second-half display that was nowhere near the required standard.

Leeds have made a spirited start to life back in the Premier League with eight points from their first six matches, and they are unlikely to be rolled over easily, particularly in front of their home crowd.

Spurs, however, have the best away record in the league so far, and if they maintain composure in both boxes, they should have enough to claim all three points.

Supercomputer reveals how likely Tottenham are to beat Leeds away in the Premier League - Spurs Web
Description

Opta’s Supercomputer has revealed whether Tottenham are likely to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United on Saturday.

The 1-1 draw against Wolves was the most disappointing result of the Thomas Frank era so far.

While the loss to Bournemouth could be written off as a rare off day and a case of the likes of Antoine Semenyo being on song, the Midlands side came to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium without a single point on the board.

Some pundits are now questioning if Spurs can break down low-blocks under Frank, and that is a concern shared by many supporters as the Lilywhites continue to struggle to fashion chances.

Can Tottenham overcome Leeds United on Saturday?

While many Tottenham supporters are prepared to be patient and give Frank time, the Spurs head coach will be aware that the criticism will start growing louder if his side fails to win in their third successive Premier League game.

According to Opta’s Supercomputer, the Lilywhites are favourites to emerge with all three points from Elland Road.

The algorithm gives Tottenham a 44.4 per cent chance of beating Leeds on Saturday, while the newly promoted side have been given a 30.6 per cent chance of beating Spurs and really piling the pressure on Frank.

MORE SPURS STORIES

How are Leeds shaping up ahead of Spurs clash?

Leeds have had a reasonable start to the season, having won two, drawn two and lost two of their first six league games.

They have conceded nine goals so far, while scoring six. Daniel Farke’s sides at home usually commit bodies forward in attack and look to take the initiative.

That may play into Tottenham’s hands as it did at the Amex Stadium two weeks ago, with Frank being good at exploiting the weaknesses of sides who like to play on the front foot.

Tottenham discover referee for Leeds clash, his last Spurs game was a disaster

Tottenham discover referee for Leeds clash, his last Spurs game was a disaster - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have discovered the referee who will take charge of their Premier League clash against Leeds United, but history suggests Spurs may not fancy their chances with him in the middle.

Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action this weekend with an away trip to Elland Road, where Thomas Frank’s side will be eager to steady themselves after a frustrating spell in the league.

Spurs have collected just two points from their last two matches, which is hardly the form expected from a side with top-four ambitions, and the pressure is on to turn performances into victories once more.

However, there is reason for encouragement as Tottenham boast the best away record in the division this season, with two wins and a draw on the road, leaving them with seven points from a possible nine when away from north London.

Tom Bramall appointed referee for Leeds vs Tottenham

As Frank’s men prepare for their league clash, the Premier League has confirmed the match officials, with Tom Bramall named as referee for the Tottenham versus Leeds encounter.

The 35-year-old only made his Premier League debut as a referee in August 2022, and for this fixture between Tottenham and Leeds, he will be assisted by Ian Hussin and Andrew Dallison.

Rob Jones has been appointed as the fourth official on the touchline, while in the VAR room, Jarred Gillett will take charge, supported by Akil Howson.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs’ history with referee Tom Bramall

While Thomas Frank will be hoping for strong officiating from Bramall, recent history does not inspire much confidence for Spurs.

The referee has only been in charge of one Tottenham match to date in the Premier League, which came in last season’s heavy 5-1 defeat away to Liverpool at Anfield.

On that occasion, Bramall showed just three yellow cards in the entire fixture, two to Liverpool players and one to Tottenham, though the manner of Spurs’ defeat meant officiating decisions were never likely to change the outcome.

Tottenham star is highest-rated Premier League player in his position this season - Spurs Web
Description

According to WhoScored’s metrics, one Tottenham Hotspur man has been more consistent than any player in his position across the entirety of the Premier League in the first six games of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur made seven new signings in the summer transfer window, but the jury is still out on many of them.

Xavi Simons is yet to deliver a statement performance for Spurs, while Randal Kolo Muani is still waiting for his Premier League debut for the Lilywhites due to injury.

Joao Palhinha has been praised by Thomas Frank for his impact, but there are question marks over whether the Portuguese midfielder offers enough on the ball, particularly against sides who defend in a low block.

However, one man, who was one of the first signings to arrive through the door at Hotspur Way this summer, has been a clear hit, and the numbers back it up.

Tottenham’s Mohammed Kudus has outperformed every other Premier League winger

Mohammed Kudus has played almost every minute of every game for Tottenham in the Premier League and the Champions League so far, and he has looked the Lilywhites’ most consistent attacking threat.

The Ghanian is still waiting for his first goal in a Spurs shirt, but he has already registered four assists.

MORE SPURS STORIES

WhoScored have revealed that, according to their metrics, Kudus has been the best-performing winger across the division this season, with an average performance rating of 7.45.

Thomas Frank has revealed what makes Kudus so special

It is not hard to see why the Tottenham boss likes the former West Ham man so much, as apart from his qualities in attack, he is also supremely fit and always puts in a shift for the side.

While the winger’s one-v-one qualities are there for all to see, Frank has also praised Kudus’ strength and hold-up play.

The 25-year-old offers Tottenham an out-ball all game, often relieves the defence of pressure, and his first touch is almost always spot on.

Tottenham’s top five bogey teams revealed as Wolves cause yet another upset

Tottenham’s top five bogey teams revealed as Wolves cause yet another upset - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur continued their winless run against Wolves last weekend but they are far from Spurs’ only bogey team in England.

Tottenham Hotspur were the clear favourites to wrap up all three points on Saturday night. Wolves were bottom of the Premier League table and had failed to secure a win or draw in their opening five league fixtures.

Despite this, the visitors managed to get a point from the game and would have won, had it not been for a stoppage-time equaliser scored by Joao Palhinha. This means that Spurs have now failed to defeat Wolves in six consecutive fixtures and are without a win against them since August 2022.

This confirms Wolves’ status as Tottenham’s latest bogey team, but they are by no means the first. Here are five other teams Spurs have struggled against over the past decade.

Spurs have been tested by West Ham

Tottenham fans like to joke that playing them is West Ham’s cup final. Barring their most recent meeting, it certainly appears true that the Irons always turn up in this London derby.

Spurs have won 13 times against West Ham in the past 10 years, while their rivals have accumulated seven victories.

Tottenham, therefore, hold the bragging rights, but West Ham have been an obstacle in the past, even when it would not be expected based on their position in the Premier League. The last few games between the teams indicate that the Hammers may not be as much of a problem these days.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham have a mixed record against Leicester City

Like they do with West Ham, Spurs beat Leicester more often than not. However, the Foxes have not always proved to be easy prey.

Despite Leicester’s decline in recent years, they have won two of their past three matches against Tottenham, including a surprise win away from home in January.

Leicester have got the better of Spurs seven times in the past decade, although they have been the losing opposition in some memorable Tottenham victories. The last-minute win in January 2022, thanks to Steven Bergwijn’s two injury-time goals, comes to mind, as well as the 6-1 thrashing at the King Power Stadium just two years after Leicester won the league.

Newcastle United are a tough opponent for Tottenham

Newcastle United have won five of their past six meetings with Tottenham, with 6-1 and 4-0 wins included. Spurs have battered Newcastle by heavy margins too on a few occasions, but it is the club from the north that have dominated the fixture recently.

Tottenham have been beaten three times in a row by Newcastle. The most recent competitive fixture between the sides took place in January this year and ended in a 2-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs have a chance to make things right in the Carabao Cup at the end of October, and it appears Thomas Frank is taking the competition seriously. Making a midweek trip up to St James’ Park and winning will be far from easy, but it’s something Tottenham must do to progress in the domestic cup, which they have looked most likely to win in recent years.

Spurs have a terrible record against Chelsea

Chelsea have won 16 London derbies against Tottenham in the past 10 years. This has included a run of five consecutive matches and two lots of four straight games.

Spurs have not defeated their bitter rivals since February 2023, when Oliver Skipp and Harry Kane were on target. The last win in the Premier League before this result came in November 2018.

Stamford Bridge in particular has been a problem for Tottenham and in April 2018, they won there for the first time in 28 years. This wait for a victory should have ended a couple of years earlier during the ‘Battle of the Bridge’ clash, when Spurs blew a two-goal lead to end their title hopes.

Chelsea are on a four-match winning streak against Tottenham and won 1-0 in their most recent clash.

Liverpool are Tottenham’s ultimate bogey team

Tottenham are without a win at Anfield since May 2011, and based on recent history, this will not be changing any time soon. Spurs conceded four goals during the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg last season and went on to lose 5-1 in the Premier League clash at Anfield, which handed Liverpool the title.

There was a particularly rough patch just over a decade ago when Tottenham lost 5-0 at home to Liverpool and were defeated 4-0 and 3-0 in the two fixtures which followed. These results were part of a 10-match streak where Spurs failed to beat the club from Merseyside.

It ended with a 4-1 Tottenham win at Wembley in 2017, but this was followed by 12 consecutive games where Spurs were unable to defeat Liverpool. This was concluded with the controversial 2-1 victory on this day two years ago, when Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota were both sent off.

Recent fixtures between the teams have seen Spurs regularly concede a high number of goals, including letting in six at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Of all the fixtures on their calendar, Liverpool is the team they must dread playing the most
