Tottenham can exploit loophole to hand De Zerbi a transfer warchest this summer - Spurs Web
Description

Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed why Tottenham Hotspur can afford to back Roberto Der Zerbi with big funds this summer if they do manage to stay in the Premier League.

Reports indicate that Spurs are ready to undertake an ambitious rebuild of their squad in the summer if they manage to avoid relegation.

Roberto De Zerbi has been given a big say on Tottenham’s squad building, as the Italian gets set to put his own imprint on the squad he inherited.

However, the Lilywhites cannot afford to think about the summer window for now, with the club having a lot of work to do to secure their Premier League status after falling to yet another defeat at Sundland.

Many experts have pointed out that Spurs have a major cash flow problem at the moment, which could limit their ability to spend big in the summer unless their owners inject more money into the club.

However, journalist Ben Jacobs has now explained that missing out on European football will mean that Tottenham do not need to worry about complying with Financial Fair Play next season, thus allowing them to spend up to 85 per cent of their revenue on transfers.

Jacobs told The United Stand (as relayed by GiveMeSport): “Tottenham will be able to exploit this loophole of no European football, where you’re under Squad Cost Ratio but not Financial Fair Play.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“You can spend 85% of your revenue on transfers and for Spurs even without Champions League football they’ll have pretty decent revenue because of the size of their stadium and their brand has always brought in decent capital and they won’t be bound by Financial Fair Play but also they won’t be bound by that many potential domestic sanctions because in the first year of Squad Cost Ratio you’ve got 30% extra leeway on top of that 85% number, so 115% of total revenue [can be spent] on transfers, without really incurring anything as it’s viewed as a transition year.”

Relegation would mean financial disaster for Spurs

While the lack of European football could give Tottenham some breathing space in the transfer window if they stay up, going down will have disastrous consequences on the club’s balance sheet.

Some believe that Spurs could see their revenue drop by a whopping £250m if they get relegated from the Premier League.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur officials appear to be doing their homework ahead of the summer transfer window, with the club’s scouts spotted in a big European clash in Portugal last week.

Planning for the summer transfer window may be very tricky for Tottenham, given that the club do not know which league they are going to find themselves in next season.

Spurs are currently in the bottom three with six games to go, and their current predicament may make it hard for them to advance talks with top-quality players, who are likely to have plenty of suitors.

However, that does not appear to be stopping the North Londoners’ scouts from continuing to run the rule over the best young talents around Europe.

Tottenham scouts were in attendance for Porto’s clash against Nottingham Forest

Both O Jogo and A Bola (as relayed by Sport Witness) are now reporting that representatives from Spurs were in attendance at the Estadio do Dragao last week alongside several European sides to watch Porto take on Nottingham Forest in the Europa League.

They speculate on which player Tottenham may have been keeping an eye on and suggest that it may have been winger William Gomes.

The 20-year-old has established himself as a regular in Porto’s starting eleven this season, and has netted 13 goals in 40 outings, including four in 10 Europa League games.

MORE SPURS STORIES

One of those came in the clash against Forest, as Gomes impressed in front of the Tottenham officials, ending the match with three shots, two successful dribbles and six duels won, as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw.

Spurs explored a move for another Porto star in January

Interestingly, this report comes after one Porto striker was heavily linked with a move to N17 in the winter.

It was reported in the January window that Tottenham made advances towards Samu Aghehowa, who is alleged to have an £87m release clause in his contract.

Description

Opta’s supercomputer has now predicted Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of beating Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League this weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur’s turbulent 2026 only got worse on Sunday afternoon as their winless run stretched to 14 games this year following Sunderland’s 1-0 victory.

That defeat was a devastating one for Spurs, who now find themselves firmly rooted in the bottom three for the first time this season and for the first time since 2009.

These are difficult times for the Lilywhites, who need to get their season back on track with six crucial games left before the curtain is drawn on the 2025-26 season.

Tottenham chances vs Brighton and Hove Albion revealed by Opta supercomputer

For the second time this campaign, Spurs have failed to take the opportunity to create some breathing space between themselves and their relegation rivals.

Against Nottingham Forest, Tottenham needed a victory to give themselves a cushion in the survival battle, but instead they suffered a devastating 3-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

MORE SPURS STORIES

On Sunday against Sunderland, a win could have seen Spurs leapfrog both Forest and Leeds into 15th place – an opportunity that has once again gone begging.

Next up is a clash against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League, and Opta’s supercomputer has given its prediction on Spurs’ chances of securing a win.

The AI’s forecast gives Tottenham a 31.8% chance of beating the Seagulls, while De Zerbi’s former side has a 42.9% chance of securing a victory.

Spurs running out of margin for error in relegation battle

With the season quickly drawing to an end, Spurs simply cannot afford to lose any more games, as that could all but seal their relegation fate.

As it stands, Tottenham are the worst of all the sides currently embroiled in a relegation scrap, as they are the only ones without a win this year.

Nottingham Forest, Leeds and West Ham United have been picking up points, which is helping them pull away from the Lilywhites.

In matchday 19, Spurs were 12 points clear of the Hammers, but that has since changed, with West Ham now two points above Tottenham in the league table.

Tottenham's Andy Robertson transfer takes twist despite early verbal agreement with free agent - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham’s pursuit of Andy Robertson is gathering pace, with another major hurdle cleared as the summer transfer window approaches.

Andy Robertson could end up being Tottenham Hotspur’s first signing of the summer transfer window, with the full-back set to become a free agent this summer.

Robertson has chosen not to renew his deal with Liverpool, and that decision has accelerated Spurs’ pursuit of the full-back.

Tottenham are now said to have reached an agreement with Robertson after the defender confirmed his departure from Merseyside this summer, despite five clubs showing an interest in the Liverpool man.

Tottenham given green light to sign Andy Robertson as rivals emerge

Many Spurs fans, however, are not best pleased with the club’s pursuit of Robertson, with many far from convinced that he is what is needed at this moment in time.

Interest in the full-back began during Thomas Frank’s time in the dugout, leading many supporters to believe the potential signing is a club-driven move rather than one influenced by the current manager.

TeamTalk has now revealed that new Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi has given the green light for Spurs to push on with a move for Robertson. It is claimed that the Scottish international’s experience is seen as valuable to the Tottenham dressing room.

Spurs face competition for Andy Robertson deal

But Spurs will still face competition if they are to land Robertson this summer. We reported earlier that any Robertson move will depend on Tottenham’s Premier League status, as relegation could see the deal fall through.

Celtic are still understood to be keen on the full-back, while Hull City, who are in the last Championship play-off spot, are also considering making an offer for the Liverpool man should they reach the Premier League next season.

However, TeamTalk adds that Robertson’s camp has reaffirmed that their agreement with Tottenham, initially reached in January, remains intact and unaffected by recent developments.

Even in the event of relegation, the Liverpool full-back would still be open to a move to north London, highlighting the strength of the understanding already in place.

Arsenal hero Samir Nasri wants Tottenham to avoid Premier League relegation, Eden Hazard does not agree

Arsenal hero Samir Nasri wants Tottenham to avoid Premier League relegation, Eden Hazard does not agree - Spurs Web
Description

Former Arsenal forward Samir Nasri has explained his surprising reason for wanting Tottenham Hotspur to remain in the Premier League next season.

It has been a terrible weekend for Tottenham Hotspur as West Ham thrashed Wolves, while Nottingham Forest earned a point against Aston Villa.

Spurs themselves were unable to match their relegation rivals, as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Sunderland.

The Black Cats created 1.02xG in the first half alone and got the job done in the second thanks to a shot which was heavily deflected by Micky van de Ven.

Now, Tottenham are two points inside the relegation zone and only have six matches remaining to turn things around.

Samir Nasri wants Tottenham to stay up

The fact Spurs could genuinely be relegated to the Championship has been met with jubilation from the supporters of rival teams.

MORE SPURS STORIES

This is particularly true of Arsenal fans who might only have Tottenham’s failings to shout about by the end of the season, considering their own team’s recent struggles.

Despite this, ex-Gunner Samir Nasri actually wants the Lilywhites to survive the drop in order to preserve the biannual North London derbies.

“Even though I played for Arsenal, I wouldn’t want Tottenham to be relegated. It’s too big a club… we’d lost the derbies,” he told the Canal Football Club programme (as relayed by Get Football).

Former Chelsea winger Eden Hazard responded: “Don’t say Tottenham is a big club, it’s a mid-table club.”

Spurs have been appalling in recent North London derbies

If there is one positive to take from a potential relegation, it is surely the absence of two fixtures against Arsenal. Tottenham have lost seven of their past eight fixtures against Mikel Arteta’s team, failing to beat them since Antonio Conte was in charge.

There were hopes Thomas Frank would end this streak, as the Dane oversaw a 1-0 victory over Arsenal in pre-season. However, both meetings between the sides during the 2025/26 campaigns ended in 4-1 defeats.

This is by no means a reason for Tottenham fans to favour dropping out of the Premier League, but fans need something to be positive about. After all, if Roberto De Zerbi cannot turn things around quickly, then the fate of this once great club has already been sealed.

What Tottenham need to do to get to magic 40 point mark in Premier League relegation scrap

What Tottenham need to do to get to magic 40 point mark in Premier League relegation scrap - Spurs Web
Description

With six games left to play in the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur need ten points if they are to reach that magic 40-point total and avoid relegation. We have now identified the fixtures they could target as they look to get wins on the board.

Several Tottenham Hotspur fans believe that their club is set to play Championship football next season, given the injuries they have to contend with.

However, it is not just injuries that are the worry for Spurs, with results on the pitch the biggest concern for the Lilywhites at the moment.

Tottenham are yet to win a game in 2026 and have now seen their 12-point cushion over 18th place completely disappear – one they held in matchday 19.

West Ham United’s improved form since the turn of the year has allowed them to close the gap, overtake Spurs, and open up a two-point buffer, leaving Tottenham in the relegation zone.

Tottenham wins needed to reach 40 points in Premier League survival bid

At the moment, Spurs’ fate is no longer entirely in their own hands as they battle to retain their Premier League status. They will need results elsewhere to go their way if they are to climb out of the relegation zone with six games remaining.

However, Tottenham must start putting wins on the board. With just 30 points from 32 matches, they likely need nine or ten more points to give themselves a good chance of survival. That means Spurs need to win half of their remaining games, despite only winning twice in the last 22.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In previous seasons, 30 points has often been enough, but given how competitive the relegation battle is this term, Spurs may need to push closer to the 40-mark to avoid the drop.

Spurs face uphill task to hit safety mark

But with a run of 14 games without a single victory in the last four months, the big question is where Tottenham will find an extra ten points.

With six games left, Spurs need three wins and at least a draw to guarantee themselves 40 points for the season.

In their final six, Tottenham have tough games coming up, including matches against Brighton and Hove Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa, Leeds United, Chelsea and Everton.

Simply put, the games against Wolves and Leeds United are must-wins, which should give Spurs six points if they get wins on the board.

They must then find a way to get one more win in the games against Brighton, Everton, Aston Villa and Chelsea.

If they manage a win against Brighton and then a draw against Everton, that seals their fate and could guarantee them safety.

But if they pick up four draws after beating Wolves and Leeds, that will also see them secure 11 points in their final games of the season.

Jamie O’Hara completely disagrees with Roberto De Zerbi’s latest Tottenham claim - Spurs Web
Description

Jamie O’Hara has disagreed with new Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi on his side’s performance against Sunderland as well as the Lilywhites’ chances of staying in the Premier League.

While the threat of relegation has been present for a couple of months now for Tottenham, following Sunday’s result, many, for the first time, are coming around to the realisation that the Lilywhites are genuinely on course for the Championship.

The North Londoners are in the bottom three, and as per Opta’s Supercomputer, Spurs are now the favourites to join Burnley and Wolves in the second tier next term.

One former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has now given an extremely worrying assessment of the club’s relegation chances ahead of their final six league matches.

Jamie O’Hara sees no signs that Tottenham can stay in the Premier League

After the game, Roberto De Zerbi declared that Tottenham did not deserve to lose and praised the spirit his players showed, especially in the first half.

However, O’Hara has now disagreed with the Spurs boss, labelling the Lilywhites’ performance on Sunday as “shocking” and blasting the players for a lack of fight.

The former Tottenham midfielder told Sky Sports: “Absolutely shocking. Spurs didn’t deserve anything from the game. It sums up Spurs this season. They did absolutely nothing, offered nothing. Non-existent performances all over the park. Connor Gallagher, shocking. Randal Kolo Muani, shocking. Dominic Solanke, shocking. Richarlison, shocking. Destiny Udogie, shocking.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“You can’t carry six players when you are fighting relegation! You have to fight and put in a performance. Absolutely woeful again. I can’t believe how bad this team have got. De Zerbi is a good manager but he can’t produce miracles; the players have to produce for him. Nowhere near good enough. The quality on the pitch is non-existent. These players have fallen so far off from where they think they are as footballers.

“I am not seeing anything from this team that warrants staying in the Premier League. There is nothing that says they can stay up. There isn’t enough fight, quality or passion. For the majority of the game, I couldn’t believe what I was watching. These players are nowhere near it.”

O’Hara cannot see Spurs winning another game this season

De Zerbi has remained positive about Tottenham’s survival chances, suggesting that his side just need a win to get their confidence back.

However, O’Hara cannot see where the Lilywhites’ next win is going to come from and suggested that the Italian simply does not have the players to get the club out of their current predicament.

The pundit added: “They have not won this year. It will be April 18 next weekend and Spurs haven’t won in the Premier League. Where are the points coming from? They need seven or eight points. Where are they coming from? I can’t see it. The players are not good enough and are not producing. Pumped by Nottingham Forest and beaten by Sunderland. West Ham have got fight. Forest picked up another point. Leeds have fight and have energy at home.

“I don’t see anything from Spurs to say they can get out of this. I cannot believe how bad this team have got. De Zerbi hasn’t got the players. I think you could see a style of play from Tottenham; he knows what he is doing in terms of how he wants them to play. A slower build-up and possession-based. You could see what he is trying to do but you have to rely on the players to put in a performance.

“What can you do as a manager? You are waiting to get beaten as they are not producing quality on the pitch. There is not enough quality. The players, it’s remarkable, the performances they are putting in at this stage of the season and what is on the line.

“Solanke, £60m Spurs paid for him! He was meant to be Harry Kane’s replacement but it looks like he’s forgotten how to play football.

“Solanke’s performance today needs to be studied. It’s one of the worst performances I’ve seen. It’s remarkable some of the football I’ve seen. De Zerbi must be scratching his head. We don’t deserve anything from the game – Kinsky was the best player! I couldn’t believe what I was watching. De Zerbi is not a miracle worker.”

‘I support Tottenham’ – Alex Scott says it was extra sweet to score winner vs Arsenal

‘I support Tottenham’ – Alex Scott says it was extra sweet to score winner vs Arsenal - Spurs Web
Description

Alex Scott has spoken about why his winning goal against Arsenal on Saturday was particularly sweet given his Tottenham past.

Tottenham Hotspur are in a crisis, and excluding their Europa League triumph last May, this has been the case for the best part of two seasons.

Therefore, while Arsenal’s recent failings cannot compensate for the pain Spurs fans are feeling, it is nice to watch the Gunners implode.

Mikel Arteta and his team met their match against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final and have since suffered defeats to Southampton and Bournemouth, respectively.

Arsenal’s most recent defeat has had massive implications on the Premier League title race, and it was inflicted on them by a player who was all too happy to sink Tottenham’s bitter rivals.

Alex Scott reveals his Tottenham dream

The Cherries were triumphant on Saturday thanks to Alex Scott, who silenced the Emirates Stadium with a goal in the 74th minute.

For the 22-year-old, this was a huge moment and one he dreamed of as a child, as he grew up supporting Spurs.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Scott told the Mirror: “Yes, I support Tottenham, though that doesn’t have much to do with today. But growing up as a kid, it was definitely a dream for me [to score against Arsenal].

“Bournemouth are my team at the minute but I was a Tottenham fan growing up, so as a kid growing up, I would have been really happy with that.”

Spurs have previously been linked with Scott

Ahead of the January transfer window, Tottenham were interested in Scott as a potential signing further into the future.

The midfielder, who received his first England call-up last year, would likely be interested in a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, this would only be on the basis that Spurs remain in the Premier League, which is no guarantee with how things are looking.

It might be that a move to North London is not in Scott’s future, but at least he has given his fellow Tottenham fans a reason to smile after another largely disappointing weekend.

Big difference between Tottenham training under Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi revealed - Spurs Web
Description

A report has shed light on the approach Roberto De Zerbi has taken to the training sessions at Tottenham and how they are different to the ones under his predecessors.

According to reports, it did not take long for De Zerbi to win over the Tottenham squad, with some players raving about the Italian’s methods to their friends.

It was also claimed by Miguel Delaney a few days ago that many Spurs players feel De Zerbi’s methods are ‘elite’, and his arrival had injected new enthusiasm and spirit into the club.

However, the 46-year-old received a reality check regarding the difficulty of his challenge at Tottenham on Sunday as they fell to a 1-0 loss at Sunderland and dropped into the relegation zone.

Why Roberto De Zerbi is avoiding double sessions and limiting instructions at Tottenham

The Daily Mail have now revealed that the new Spurs head coach is currently living at the Lodge in Hotspur Way, which has enabled him to work long hours.

The report states that the Tottenham boss has been careful to ‘limit the instructions he has passed on’ to his players to avoid overburdening them with information.

Additionally, training sessions under De Zerbi have been shorter than they were under Frank or Igor Tudor, but the sessions have always been focused on ball work.

MORE SPURS STORIES

This is because the new Tottenham head coach wants his players to display courage on the ball, keep possession and play in an attacking style.

The Italian has not had a double session so far at Hotspur Way, as he is mindful of the cumulative workload and physical strain on the players at this stage of the season.

De Zerbi remains positive about Spurs’ survival chances

The Tottenham boss did not have the start he would have hoped for, with the Lilywhites falling to a loss at Sunderland and losing Cristian Romero to an injury.

However, De Zerbi defended Tottenham’s performance in the North East, insisting that his side did not deserve to be on the losing side.

The Italian praised the spirit his players showed at the Stadium of Light and insisted that “everything will change” once they get a win under their belt.

Jamie O’Hara says one Tottenham star was a 0/10 vs Sunderland, two others were 1/10 - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s latest defeat to Sunderland has sparked fierce criticism, with Jamie O’Hara delivering some brutal player ratings.

It was yet another disappointing outing for Tottenham Hotspur in their clash against Sunderland in the Premier League.

Roberto De Zerbi’s men fell to a 1-0 defeat away from home at the Stadium of Light, a loss that leaves Spurs in the bottom three of the Premier League table for the first time this season.

Relegation to the Championship now looks very likely for the Lilywhites, who need to turn their fortunes around rather quickly with six games left to spare.

Tottenham slammed by Jamie O’Hara after Sunderland defeat

Many Spurs fans will no doubt have been left frustrated watching their side lose yet another game this calendar year.

Sunday’s defeat now leaves Tottenham winless in their last 14 outings in 2026 in the English top flight, a poor run that has led them into a full-on relegation scrap.

Jamie O’Hara was just as frustrated as every other Tottenham supporter on Sunday, and he was vocal about it, taking to social media to hand out his player ratings.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The former Spurs midfielder labelled the display “absolutely woeful” as he delivered harsh assessments of those involved.

Dominic Solanke received the lowest of all ratings, getting a 0/10, with Randal Kolo Muani and Richarlison also rated poorly, receiving 1/10 respectively.

A few other players were handed more respectable ratings after their performances, with Antonin Kinsky given a 7, Pedro Porro a 5, Lucas Bergvall a 5 and Archie Gray a 5.

Spurs attacking struggles highlighted in Sunderland defeat

While some might label O’Hara’s ratings as overly critical, he is not wrong to question the Tottenham attack.

Spurs should have bagged at least one goal against Sunderland, given some of the chances they created, with the majority falling to Richarlison.

The Brazilian seemed to have left his shooting boots at home, as most of his efforts on goal were tame against the Black Cats.

FotMob, however, rated Solanke as the second-worst performer for Spurs, handing him a 6.1 match rating, with Bergvall ranked lowest with a 5.2.
