Description

Tottenham are pushing hard to secure the signing of RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons, with reports suggesting the Dutch midfielder could be edging closer to a move as the club steps up their pursuit of a new number ten.

It has been setback after setback for Tottenham Hotspur, who still remain intent on finding the right player to take on the number ten role this summer.

Attention has now shifted towards RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, with the club keen to test Leipzig’s resolve as they continue their hunt for attacking creativity.

Chelsea have tracked the Dutchman for some time, but it is now Tottenham who appear ready to firm up their interest and potentially steal a march on their London rivals.

Tottenham schedule direct talks with Xavi Simons

According to Bild, Xavi Simons is currently in London discussing his future, with interest from Premier League clubs continuing to build.

At present, it is understood that everything points towards Spurs, who have retained their interest in the midfielder, having been linked with him earlier in the window.

Reports also suggest that Tottenham have already spoken with RB Leipzig regarding a potential deal and are now due to hold direct talks with the player himself.

Chelsea competition gives Spurs an opening

Chelsea have long been admirers of Simons, but with the Blues also monitoring Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez, Tottenham sense a genuine opportunity to push through a deal.

After missing out on previous attacking targets, often losing out to rivals at the final stage, Tottenham know they cannot afford to hesitate if they are serious about landing Simons.

Tottenham discover Champions League pot and potential opponents ahead of League Phase draw - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are set to discover their fate in the UEFA Champions League as the league phase draw takes place today, with Spurs now confirmed in a specific pot ahead of the ceremony.

Tottenham Hotspur are back in the UEFA Champions League thanks to their Europa League triumph last season in Bilbao, Spain.

The Europa League winners are one of six English sides set to compete in the competition this season, marking their first appearance in Europe’s premier club competition since the 2022/23 campaign.

With the play-offs now completed, attention swiftly turns to the draw itself, which is scheduled to be conducted later today.

Tottenham placed in pot three for Champions League draw

Ahead of the draw, Tottenham Hotspur now know which pot they are set to be in this evening when the balls are rolled out.

According to ESPN, Tottenham find themselves in pot three for the UEFA Champions League draw, with Spurs and Newcastle United being the only two English clubs not to make it into pots one or two.

The pots do not really matter in the new league phase format, as Spurs will face two teams from each pot before making it into the round of 16 or playoffs, depending on where they finish in the Champions League table.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, it is worth noting that they cannot play any English side in the League phase. Here are the teams in each pot:

What this means for Spurs in the Champions League

With only a few hours left before the draw commences today, fans in the UK will be able to watch the ceremony live on UEFA’s official website and YouTube channel.

This season will also mark Tottenham’s first campaign in the new Champions League format, and Thomas Frank will be hopeful that his side can make a strong impression as they look to progress beyond the league phase.

The road ahead is never straightforward at this level, but Spurs’ return to the top table of European football is one that their supporters will embrace with genuine excitement.

Why Tottenham should never have even attempted to sign Piero Hincapie

Why Tottenham should never have even attempted to sign Piero Hincapie - Spurs Web
Description

Another player linked with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur is about to join Arsenal, but Piero Hincapie should have always been at the bottom of Spurs’ priority list.

Tottenham Hotspur have had a remarkable transfer window, but for all the wrong reasons. Time and time again, the club have been linked with a player, only for a move to never occur.

This began with the Morgan Gibbs-White ordeal. It looked certain the 25-year-old would swap the City Ground for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but instead he ended up signing a new contract at Nottingham Forest.

Next came Eberechi Eze, who joined Arsenal, despite being backed to sign for Spurs. It now seems likely that Piero Hincapie could join him at the Gunners, yet another player who was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Tottenham sent a bid for Hincapie, which included a loan with an obligation to buy. However, Arsenal quickly stole a march on the race for the Bayer Leverkusen defender.

Tottenham should not have been pursuing Piero Hincapie

One of Tottenham’s biggest failures in the transfer window has been targeting players who only see the Europa League winners as their second choice.

Thomas Frank has already got off to a good start and he deserves a squad that gives their all. Spurs should show no interest in any player who treats the club as a safety net in the event that no other teams want them.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, there is another problem with Tottenham pursuing Hincapie and that is to do with his position. The Bayer Leverkusen man is a centre-back, a position where Spurs have already strengthened this summer with the signings of Kevin Danso and Koto Takai. On top of these, Luka Vuskovic joined up with the Tottenham first-team squad.

Despite plenty of rumours, Spurs managed to keep hold of new captain Cristian Romero, while both Ben Davies and Radu Dragusin remain at the club. In total, this leaves Tottenham with seven centre-back options, so while Hincapie would have been a luxury, he is certainly not a necessity.

Spurs have bigger needs further up the pitch

If Tottenham are to spend £50m+ in three different positions, then by all means go for another defender. However, the chances of this happening are almost impossible, particularly as Mohammed Kudus alone cost £55m.

Spurs are only likely to make one or two further signings and the main priorities have to be the left wing and attacking midfield.

Tottenham did sign Mathys Tel, but the sale of Heung-min Son cancels out that move and demands another signing. Brennan Johnson has two goals in his last two matches playing on the left, but should he really be relied on to be first-choice on his secondary wing when he was second choice last season on his primary wing?

The attacking midfield is perhaps an even greater issue. Pape Matar Sarr is in excellent form, but Tottenham need an attacker who can offer what James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski can up front.

Therefore, Spurs must abandon any pursuit of a centre-back at this point in the transfer window and just ensure the attacking positions are filled.

It is too late to be perfecting the squad across every area of the pitch. Right now, there simply needs to be at least one clear starter in every position and this is not yet true of the left wing or attacking midfield.

How to watch Tottenham vs Bournemouth in the Premier League, team news and prediction - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action this weekend as Thomas Frank looks to build on a perfect start, with a tricky clash against Bournemouth set to test Spurs’ early momentum. Here’s how to watch the clash between Tottenham and Bournemouth.

Tottenham Hotspur head into the clash against Bournemouth off the back of a statement 2-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

It was only Thomas Frank’s second win against the Spaniard in his managerial career, but it set the tone for what Spurs hope will be a season of consistency and conviction.

Two games into the campaign, Tottenham sit second in the Premier League table, boasting an impressive record of five goals scored and none conceded, a stark contrast to the frailties that plagued them last term.

Their next challenge comes against Bournemouth, who arrive with a mixed start to the season. After a heavy 4-2 defeat to Liverpool in their opener, they bounced back with a narrow but important 1-0 win over Wolves, showing they are capable of grinding out results when needed.

When and where is the game?

The clash between Tottenham and Bournemouth will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, 30 August 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 (UK time).

How to watch Tottenham vs Bournemouth in the UK

Unfortunately for Tottenham supporters, the match will not be broadcast live in the UK due to the 3 pm blackout rule. Highlights will be available later in the evening on BBC’s Match of the Day, while the club will also share key moments across their official social media channels.

Tottenham and Bournemouth team news

Tottenham are still managing several injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s encounter. Bryan Gil remains out with a knee issue, while Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison continue to be long-term absentees in midfield.

Destiny Udogie could be in line for a return after missing time with a preseason injury. Elsewhere, Kota Takai is nursing a foot problem, while Manor Solomon is recovering from his knock and is edging closer to full fitness.

Radu Dragusin is still working his way back from a cruciate ligament injury, and Yves Bissouma remains a doubt after sustaining a knock in training before the Burnley clash in gameweek one.

As for Bournemouth, they will also be without a few of their stars. Forward Enes Unal is recovering from a cruciate ligament injury and is expected back in early October, while midfielder Lewis Cook is doubtful with a knee problem, leaving their squad somewhat stretched.

Spurs Web prediction for Tottenham vs Bournemouth

Of course, so far, Thomas Frank has overseen a superb start, with Spurs looking sharp in both penalty areas, something that was sorely lacking in previous campaigns. The defence has remained resolute, while the attack has carved open chances with ease.

Bournemouth, on the other hand, still appears unsettled at the back, having lost several key defenders during the transfer window, and that vulnerability could be exposed by a Tottenham side in form.

This has all the makings of another strong result for Spurs, who may well enter the international break sitting at the summit of the Premier League table.

Predicted Tottenham XI vs Bournemouth as Thomas Frank eyes third straight win - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has enjoyed a flawless start as Tottenham manager, and with Bournemouth heading to north London this weekend, the Dane will be looking to extend his winning streak with another strong performance from his side. Let’s take a look at our predicted Tottenham XI to face Bournemouth.

Thomas Frank will be looking to make it three wins out of three when Bournemouth come visiting the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It has been nothing but a flawless start to life for Frank and his coaching staff, who, in a short spell, have turned 17th-placed Tottenham into one of the teams to beat already this season.

Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Burnley and, most recently, against Manchester City are proof that Frank’s side are ready to go toe to toe against any opponent in the league this campaign.

With Bournemouth up next, the Dane would be hoping to get maximum points over the Cherries, a side that took four points off Tottenham last campaign, with a win at the Vitality Stadium and a draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Let us now see how Thomas Frank could line up this weekend.

Predicted Tottenham XI to face Bournemouth

Goalkeeper – Guglielmo Vicario: The Italian has managed two clean sheets in the opening two games of the season and was exceptional against Manchester City last time out, making four saves. We expect Frank to stick with him once more this weekend.

Right-back – Pedro Porro: It is very unlikely that Frank would alter the backline that has looked impenetrable so far, so we expect Porro to continue at right back.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Centre-back – Cristian Romero: The club’s captain is without question one of the first names on the team sheet. The Argentine also impressed against a City attack that featured Erling Haaland in matchweek two.

Centre-back – Micky van de Ven: Thomas Frank would be hoping Van de Ven can stay injury-free for most of this campaign, as he is integral to Tottenham’s setup. However, we expect him to continue building on his partnership with Romero.

Left-back – Djed Spence: The full-back has been in impressive form so far this campaign, and it would not be easy for Destiny Udogie to displace him from the starting XI. Udogie, of course, is expected to return for the Bournemouth clash.

Pivot midfielder – Joao Palhinha: A first goal for the Portuguese international against Man City was the perfect icing on the cake for the midfielder, who put in a complete performance in the holding role.

Pivot midfielder – Rodrigo Bentancur: It could pretty much be a similar pivot partnership this weekend, which would see Bentancur feature alongside Palhinha. However, there is a case to be made that Lucas Bergvall could come into the side.

Centre-midfielder – Pape Matar Sarr: Sarr has impressed in that advanced role, as he is ready to put in a shift, covering plenty of ground, while also pressing relentlessly. He should continue as the makeshift ten until Spurs sign one this summer.

Right-midfielder – Mohammed Kudus: No goal contributions last time out against City, but he was still a great outlet for Tottenham whenever they looked to relieve pressure with his ball-carrying ability. He looks like he has the right wing spot to himself under Frank.

Striker – Richarlison: Two goals and an assist in three games is not a bad return at all for the Brazilian, who has a point to prove in a World Cup year. He would be eager to get on the scoresheet once more to keep the momentum going.

Tottenham Hotspur find out who they will play in Carabao Cup third round - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have found out who they will face in the Carabao Cup third round after the draw was made this evening.

In line with last year’s competition, this season’s Carabao Cup third round ties will be played across two weeks, due to European competition matches being played in the weeks beginning 15th and 22nd September.

A pre-draw took place and ahead of Manchester United’s second-round tie at Grimsby Town to determine whether the eight sides competing in the Champions League and Europa League will play home or away.

Ties in the third round are to be split across two midweeks due to European participation. The first set of matches will be played across the week commencing 15 September. The second will be held in the week commencing 22 September.

From this round of the competition, the draw is no longer regionalised into northern and southern sections.

Tottenham will play Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup

Tottenham have been drawn against Doncaster Rovers in the third round, with the tie taking place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham will be hoping to do better in the competition this season after they were knocked out in the semi-final in the previous campaign following an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at Liverpool in the second leg, having taken a 1-0 lead to Merseyside.

MORE SPURS STORIES

On Thursday, Tottenham’s Champions League draw will take place in what will hopefully be another season of success for the North Londoners.

Can Thomas Frank build on Ange Postecoglou’s trophy success

With Ange Postecoglou having ended the club’s long wait for silverware after Tottenham beat Manchester United in the Europa League final in May, fans will be hoping the next trophy isn’t over a decade away.

If Tottenham are to compete on multiple fronts this season, Thomas Frank needs the support of the board in the coming days to bolster the first-team squad with at least two more quality additions; otherwise it could be another physically-demanding campaign.

Carabao Cup third round draw in full

Carabao Cup Round Three fixtures will take place across two weeks (beginning 15 and 22 September), with fixtures in the Champions League (week beginning 15 September) and Europa League (week beginning 22 September) also scheduled during this period.

Tottenham have a clear two-target plan for the final days of the transfer window - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on getting two transfers through the door before the window slams shut, even though time is running out fast.

It was reported a little over a week ago that Spurs want to sign an attacking midfielder, a winger and a centre-back before the transfer deadline.

However, that now appears a hard ask for the Lilywhites, with just five days left for them to conclude their business.

Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on social media are losing hope that any other signings will arrive through the door, especially after the way the club have fumbled some deals this summer.

Tottenham remain intent on completing two signings

However, Football Insider have now said that Spurs are still exploring the market for a number ten and a wide player.

The outlet claims that the club are desperate to add a creative midfielder to their squad after missing out on Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White, while Thomas Frank also wants to sign one more winger.

The update suggests that the Lilywhites are continuing to explore the market of potential options and have not lost hope of delivering those two signings.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, the publication adds that a deal for Man City winger Savinho now looks difficult for Spurs to complete, given the cost of the operation.

Fabrizio Romano predicts a busy few days for Spurs

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano said on Tuesday evening that Spurs will be busy in the final few days of the transfer window.

He suggested that the Lilywhites are optimistic about finding solutions and will be the ‘ones to watch’ over the next five days.

Lucas Paqueta’s transfer stance revealed as Tottenham consider move for West Ham star - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are seriously considering raiding their London rivals West Ham United again this summer, this time for Lucas Paqueta, and a new report has revealed what the attacking midfielder is thinking about a move to N17.

The Brazilian has now been cleared of the spot-fixing allegations that have been hanging over him for nearly a year and will be keen to make up for lost time after returning to action.

It was first reported by The Daily Mail last month that Tottenham may raid West Ham for Paqueta, and the speculation linking the 27-year-old with a move to N17 has intensified over the last week after Spurs missed out on Eberechi Eze.

It was revealed by GiveMeSport a couple of days ago that Spurs would need to spend around £60m to land Paqueta this summer, but a new update has explained why West Ham may hold all the cards in the negotiations.

Lucas Paqueta will not push to leave West Ham despite Tottenham interest

According to talkSPORT, the former Lyon man has emerged as a target for Spurs, who are now contemplating raiding the London Stadium for the attacking midfielder, having secured Mohammed Kudus from their rivals earlier this summer.

The outlet also says that the Hammers are demanding in excess of £60m for Paqueta, who has two years left on his contract.

However, interestingly, the report claims that the Brazil international will not push to leave the East London club even if Spurs make a move.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is explained that Paqueta is thankful to West Ham for standing by him through the spot-fixing allegations and is thus not asking for a transfer.

Why it will be difficult for Spurs to get Paqueta

West Ham appear to be in turmoil at the moment, with the supporters turning on their players, manager, and the club’s owners.

Part of the anger stems from the fact that they sold Kudus to their rivals, and the Ghana international has hit the ground running at N17.

Interesting update emerges on Kobbie Mainoo amid links to Tottenham Hotspur - Spurs Web
Description

Kobbie Mainoo, who has been on Tottenham’s radar since the start of the summer transfer window, has made a big decision on his Man United future.

A whole host of attacking midfielders have been mooted as targets for Spurs over the last few days after Eberechi Eze snubbed the Lilywhites in favour of a move to the Emirates Stadium last week.

It emerged last week that Tottenham Hotspur are also considering a move for an energetic box-to-box midfielder who finds himself out of favour at a Premier League rival.

That update came from GiveMeSport, who claimed that Spurs may be ready to pounce on Kobbie Mainoo as Man United are considering a sale of the youngster to offset their huge summer spend.

According to a new update from talkSPORT, the 20-year-old is now open to an exit from Old Trafford in the final days of the transfer window.

Mainoo has been an unused substitute in Man United’s two league games so far, and the club’s efforts to tie him down to a new contract have failed.

This is because the youngster, whose current deal has two years left to run, is thought to be demanding a salary of £150,000-a-week, which the Red Devils are not willing to offer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The United academy graduate is now open to an exit from Manchester if a suitable offer arrives, with the midfielder eyeing a move to a club that can offer him Champions League football.

Premier League rivals hold an interest in Mainoo

Interestingly, talkSPORT make no mention of Spurs in their report but reveal that Newcastle United have held a long-term interest in Mainoo.

They say that Chelsea also previously showed an interest in the England international, who is also thought to be open to a move abroad.

The outlet adds that Rubem Amorim’s men could reluctantly agree to sell the midfielder since the money from his sale will go down as pure profit in their books for PSR calculations.

Tottenham could soon launch a late bid for midfielder with £13m price tag - Spurs Web
Description

According to reports from France, Tottenham Hotspur could soon make a move for an experienced French international who finds himself out of favour at his club after a controversial incident.

It emerged on Tuesday evening that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has emerged as a potential destination for Adrien Rabiot this summer.

Subsequently, it was clarified by Fabrizio Romano that Rabiot had been offered to Spurs and other Premier League clubs and is expected to leave Marseille before the transfer window slams shut.

Romano asserted that Tottenham Hotspur have not held any concrete negotiations with Marseille over the France international, but according to a new update, that could soon change.

Tottenham could launch an offer for Adrien Rabiot

L’Equipe have now provided an update on the 30-year-old’s future, revealing that he has been frozen out at Marseille after clashing with a teammate.

The outlet says that the Ligue 1 club are now ready to cash in on Rabiot for £13m, which is the same fee reported by other sources.

L’Equipe say that multiple clubs have expressed an interest in the former Paris Saint-Germain man, including Spurs. In fact, the outlet alleges that the Lilywhites could ‘soon make an offer’ for the experienced midfielder.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Rabiot does not want to leave Marseille

While this report claims that the midfielder is not wanted by Marseille, it has been suggested by other journalists that the player wants to remain at the club.

This was the information provided by Gianluca Di Marzio, who revealed that AC Milan want to sign Rabiot, but they feel that he does not want to leave Marseille.
