Micky van de Ven calls Tottenham’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou ‘strange’ - Spurs Web
Description

Micky van de Ven has revealed what he thinks of Tottenham’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou despite winning the Europa League trophy, and his comments suggest that the Dutchman certainly does not approve.

Tributes have been pouring in from Spurs players for Postecoglou since Tottenham confirmed that he had been relieved of his duties.

The reaction has proven beyond any doubt that the Australian retains the full support of the Tottenham Hotspur dressing room.

In fact, there have even been suggestions that some Spurs players could demand an exit this summer in light of how Postecoglou has been treated by the club.

Van de Ven’s latest comments about the 59-year-old do little to dispel the rumours that there is a lot of dissatisfaction in the dressing room.

Micky van de Ven says Ange Postecoglou showed his winning mentality

Many Spurs fans wanted to see Postecoglou given a chance to build on his Europa League success, and it appears that the Dutch defender feels the same way.

Following Netherlands’ 8-0 win over Malta in a World Cup qualifier, where Van de Ven chipped in with a goal and an assist, the Tottenham defender was very candid on what he felt about the decision to sack the Australian coach.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When asked about Postecoglou’s departure, he told Voetbal Zone: “That was ultimately a choice from the club. We, as players, have little to say about that. Of course, he is the first coach in a long time who has won a prize and has had success at Spurs. So if you look at it that way, it is of course a strange choice.

“It is a choice from the club about which we have little to say, so we will see what happens now. Of course, we see some rumours about the coach of Brentford (Thomas Frank), who it will probably be. So yes, it is a choice from the club about which we have little to say.

“I think a lot of players were good with him (Postecoglou). And of course, what I say, he is the first coach who has brought success to Spurs in a long time. That also shows that he has a certain quality. That also means that he has a winning mentality. 100 per cent.

“From that, you would of course say that it is strange that he was fired. What we have shown in the Premier League is, of course, unacceptable. That would, of course, have multiple factors, but that would not only have been the coach.”

Will Thomas Frank face a difficult challenge in winning over the players?

The noises coming out of the Tottenham squad certainly suggest that the players are very unhappy with the decision to sack Postecoglou.

That might add to the challenges that Thomas Frank is likely to face at N17, with the Dane needing to win the players over and prove that he is an upgrade on his predecessor.

That will become even harder if results are poor at the start of his reign. The fear is that the players and the fans could turn on him early, just like they did on Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, having said that, it is clear that man-management is one of the Danish coach’s best traits and he would back himself to be able to win over the Tottenham squad.

Description

Tottenham fans have even more reason to be excited about Luka Vuskovic’s arrival this summer as the teenage defender just achieved a major career milestone ahead of arriving at Hotspur Way.

Spurs signed the centre-back from Hajduk Split nearly two years ago but he will only link up with the Tottenham squad for the first time this summer after turning 18 years of age.

The Croat has had loan spells with Polish club Radomiak Radom and Belgian side Westerlo, particularly rising to prominence with his showing in the latter in the season just passed.

Luka Vuskovic is excited about training alongside some top-class players at Tottenham and the young defender is confident that he is ready for the challenge.

Vuskovic just made his debut for Croatia’s senior team

Vuskvoic earned his first senior call-up to the Croatia squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Gibraltar and the Czech Republic.

Many would have assumed that Zlatko Dalic merely called the teenager up to take a closer look at him in training as Vuskovic rubbed shoulders with the nation’s biggest stars.

However, to people’s surprise, Vuskovic actually made it onto the pitch in Croatia’s 5-1 win over the Czechs on Tuesday, coming on as a substitute in the 88th minute.

While the Tottenham man only got a few minutes under his belt, it is undoubtedly a huge honour to win his first cap for his country at such a young age, and it will only serve to boost his confidence ahead of his move to Hotspur Way.

What Tottenham think of Luka Vuskovic’s development

The centre-back faces an uphill task to get minutes at Tottenham next season, given the quality of defenders that the Lilywhites have at their disposal.

However, it was revealed by journalist Ben Jacobs recently that the Spurs decision-makers have been very impressed with Vuskovic’s development at Westerlo.

He suggested that they might consider loaning the defender out again, this time to the Bundesliga so that he can continue getting competitive minutes under his belt.

Description

Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven had what was one of his best outings for the Netherlands to date as they thrashed Malta in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

While the Tottenham Hotspur defender has made a fabulous impression since his move to North London two years ago, the big question mark about him has been to do with his fitness.

The Dutchman has suffered significant hamstring injuries in both of his seasons at Spurs, with Ange Postecoglou deciding to use him just in the Europa League in the final months of the campaign.

That decision proved to be the right one as the 24-year-old played a key hand in Tottenham’s win in Bilbao, with his goalline clearance ensuring that the Lilywhites saw off Man United and secured the trophy.

Micky van de Ven produces statement Netherlands performance

While the former Wolfsburg man is considered one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League when fit, he has been primarily used as a left-back by Ronald Koeman for the Oranje.

He started again at left-back against Malta on Tuesday and completed 90 minutes, getting a goal and an assist.

Van de Ven had a hand in the first goal as his marauding run down the flank and cross into the box resulted in Memphis Depay being brought down, with the former Man United man converting from the spot to put his side 1-0 up.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Tottenham man then set up Donyell Malen for his side’s fifth goal on 74 minutes, with the defender picking out the Aston Villa man with a perfect low cross, which was slotted into the back of the net.

Van de Ven then got in on the act himself in stoppage time, striking a fierce volley into the far corner after the ball fell kindly to him in the box.

We could see more of Micky’s attacking attributes under Thomas Frank at Tottenham

Even when he has been playing as a centre-back in a back four at Tottenham, we have seen glimpses of what Van de Ven can offer in attack.

His brilliant runs to set up Heung-min Son’s goal against Everton and Brennan Johnson’s goal against Man United are evidence of how unstoppable the Dutchman can be when he turns on the afterburners.

With Thomas Frank being no stranger to using a back three, we could see more of Van de Ven’s attacking flair on display if he plays as a left-sided centre-back.

That formation may allow him more freedom to make those runs with the ball when spaces open up, knowing that two other centre-halves can cover for him.

Heung-min Son receives tempting transfer approach amid Tottenham exit rumours - Spurs Web
Description

Amidst reports linking Heung-min Son with a move to the Saudi Pro League this summer, a new report has now provided a big update regarding Al-Hilal’s pursuit of the Tottenham captain.

The South Korean is 32 years of age and has just one year left on his Tottenham contract. If he does leave Spurs this summer, he will do so as the Europa League champion, having become the first captain since Ledley King in 2008 to hoist silverware.

His exit appears more than just a small possibility, with reports indicating that Tottenham may cash in on Son amidst interest from Saudi Arabia.

According to some sources, Al-Nassr and other Saudi clubs are keen on adding Son to their squad as the competition’s organisers look to attract more star names to the Middle East.

Al-Hilal have now approached Tottenham’s Heung-min Son

According to a report in Foot Mercato, Al-Hilal have now made an approach to the Tottenham man regarding a summer transfer.

The report claims that they contacted Son’s representatives about a move but does not reveal if they received any encouragement to push ahead with an offer.

It is explained that the Riyadh-based club want to add a world-class forward to their squad this summer and the Spurs man is not the only one they have approached.

MORE SPURS STORIES

They have compiled a big list of potential transfer targets and have also spoken to the representatives of Viktor Gyokeres, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Jadon Sancho.

How Son feels about a move to Saudi Arabia

It was reported by The Times last week that Son will need some convincing to agree on a move to Saudi Arabia this summer.

The outlet pointed out that he had turned down big-money offers from the Middle East last summer as he felt he had unfinished business in the Premier League.

However, The Telegraph claimed that after the end of the season, Son had left his teammates with the impression that he might leave Spurs. That suggests that the long-serving Tottenham star could now be more open to a move to the Saudi Pro League than he was 12 months ago.

Heung-min Son also refused to rule out a shock Tottenham exit this week, stating that he needs to ‘wait and see’ what happens over the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are not allowed to sign new players for the next five days - Spurs Web
Description

This summer’s transfer window is unique as it will happen in two phases, with the initial smaller phase officially coming to an end on Tuesday evening. Here is all that you need to know about when it will reopen and how long Tottenham will have to complete their business.

It has been a quiet transfer window for Spurs on the player front, but it has been anything but when it comes to changes to the management, backroom staff and at board level, with several departing and some new faces coming through the door.

In the meantime, Tottenham’s Premier League rivals have been doing some business, and the Lilywhites will thus be keen to get started on reinforcing their squad ahead of the new campaign.

However, they will have to wait for another week before completing any signings, given the way this transfer window is structured.

When does the transfer window close and when does it reopen?

It was decided by the authorities that the transfer window would be open from June 1 until June 10 so that clubs competing in the Club World Cup had a chance to sign players before the competition gets underway.

According to Sky Sports, the window closed at 7 pm on Tuesday evening rather than the usual 11 pm deadline, which means that signings cannot be registered over the next six days.

It will reopen again on Monday, June 16 and carry on until Monday, September 1, leaving Tottenham Hotspur and other clubs two and a half months to make their desired changes to the squad ahead of the 2025-26 season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

What does this mean for Tottenham’s transfer pursuits?

Although the window closed at 7 pm on Tuesday, clubs were given a two-hour grace period after the window shuts to complete deals as long the paperwork is submitted before the deadline.

That means that Tottenham and other Premier League clubs had until 9 pm on Tuesday to make any signings. With Spurs still failing to get going in the summer market, they will now not be able to register any player until the window reopens on June 16.

Spurs and other clubs around the continent can continue negotiating and working on deals over the next week, but they can only make transfers official when the window reopens again.

A highly regarded Serie A centre-back has emerged as a target for Tottenham Hotspur but they are not the only ones eyeing a move for the player this summer.

Cristian Romero continues to be linked with a move to Atletico Madrid and should the Argentine depart, Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a top-class centre-back this summer.

So far, it has mainly been Premier League defenders linked with a move to N17, with Marc Guehi and Jarrod Branthwaite featuring prominently on Tottenham’s wishlist.

It has now emerged that the Lilywhites could turn their attention to Ivory Coast international, who has been a consistent performer in Serie A over the last two years.

Tottenham eyeing a move for Evan Ndicka but will face competition

It has now been revealed by RMC Sport that Tottenham Hotspur also have their eye on Roma’s Evan Ndicka, who has impressed the Gialorossi since joining the club from Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer two years ago.

Tottenham are thought to have been left very impressed by the 25-year-old’s displays at the Stadio Olimpico in the season just passed, and they have now launched an enquiry into a potential transfer.

However, they are not the only ones to do so, with Manchester United also alleged to have explored a move for Ndicka, who has two years left on his contract at the Italian capital.

Many other Premier League clubs are also eyeing Ndicka

This is not the first time we have heard of the Lilywhites’ interest in the Roma man, with TBR Football reporting back in April that Tottenham are right in the thick of the race to sign Ndicka.

However, that report revealed that the Ivory Coast international was also on the radars of several other Premier League sides, including Brighton & Hove Albion, Bournemouth, and West Ham United.

Tottenham must move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha this summer

Tottenham must move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha this summer - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham need a proven destroyer in midfield this summer, and we believe Joao Palhinha could be the perfect answer to that pressing need.

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be looking to strengthen three positions this summer, with centre-back, midfield, and the forward area all expected to be bolstered.

With UEFA Champions League football now set to return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time since the 2022/23 season, Spurs must strengthen their squad this summer.

One area that remains a problem in this Tottenham team is the number six position, where Yves Bissouma and Lucas Bergvall currently occupy for Spurs.

It was reported that Spurs were in the running for Johnny Cardoso as a £21 million buy clause for the American was inserted in the deal that saw Giovani Lo Celso move to Real Betis two summers ago.

However, Cardoso looks set to remain in Spain according to recent reports, as Atletico Madrid have submitted a £25.5 million (€30 million) bid for the 23-year-old, with the possibility of players being included as well.

With Spurs set to miss out on Cardoso this summer, there is a need for them to turn their attention elsewhere and there could be a bargain signing lurking around at Bayern Munich.

Tottenham should target Joao Palhinha after Bayern struggles

Bayern Munich and Tottenham are no strangers to doing transfer business, with Harry Kane and Eric Dier moving to the German champions from Spurs in recent windows, while Leroy Sane has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham this summer window.

However, Spurs could look to poach a defensive midfielder who is currently out of favour in Germany since he completed his move from Fulham to Bayern last summer.

Joao Palhinha is reported to be considering his future in Germany after the former Fulham man managed just 17 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, playing only 667 minutes.

It is said that the Portuguese international is set to have talks with Bayern’s sporting director and head coach Vincent Kompany to see if he would have a chance at the Bavarian club, before deciding on his next move.

Joao Palhinha would be a smart option for Spurs midfield

Should Palhinha look elsewhere for consistent football, Tottenham Hotspur have to be in the running for the defensive midfielder.

Last season, Tottenham finished on negative goal difference, after conceding 65 goals in the Premier League.

While many would be quick to point to the defence as the issue given the injury crisis, that is not necessarily the case, as the midfield of Tottenham was subpar for most of last season.

Yves Bissouma was inconsistent throughout the last campaign, and his game was filled with errors, which ultimately cost Spurs. When the midfield cannot shield the backline, then a team would consistently have to defend.

We have seen the importance of having a top-class holding midfielder, as the absence of Rodri alone from Manchester City caused them a lot of trouble last term.

Yves Bissouma could be on his way out this summer, and Spurs would need a replacement, which makes Joao Palhinha a great option given that he has Premier League experience following his impressive spell at Fulham, which earned him a move to Bayern.

Tottenham want to sign homegrown midfielder Hayden Hackney for just £20m

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are still without a manager as the Thomas Frank deal edges closer to completion, but the Lilywhites are looking to sign a £20m-rated homegrown midfielder.

Tottenham are yet to appoint a new manager since Ange Postecoglou was sacked last Friday. Thomas Frank is rumoured to be the favourite to take over at Spurs and according to one report, Frank has already told Spurs to sign Bryan Mbeumo.

However, not all of Tottenham’s current transfer targets have been selected by Frank. Spurs appear to be interested in a midfielder competing at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, who looks to be a potential club signing.

Spurs have enjoyed signing young midfielders in recent times. Teenagers Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall were both signed last summer and each picked up a reasonable number of minutes in their debut seasons at the club.

Tottenham are scouting Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney

According to The Sun, Tottenham are considering signing Hayden Hackney, who could leave Middlesbrough after their failed promotion bid. It was reported earlier in the year that Tottenham were competing with two European clubs to sign Hackney.

The 22-year-old is currently in Slovakia for the UEFA U21 Euro Finals, where Spurs scouts will be keeping a close eye on his displays.

The player is valued at £20m, but Middlesbrough do not want to sell him and could increase their asking price depending on how well he performs on international duty.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Porto attempted to sign Hackney in January. However, Middlesbrough rejected their £9m bid. Stuttgart and Crystal Palace are also interested, but Tottenham’s scouts are said to be ‘running the rule’ over Hackney.

Who is Spurs transfer target Hayden Hackney?

Hackney came through the ranks at Middlesbrough and has spent his whole career at the Championship club, except for a loan spell at Scunthorpe United.

He primarily plays as a defensive midfielder, thus explaining his modest goal contribution stats from the past season. He registered five goals and three assists in 43 league appearances.

While Hackney now plays for the English youth team, he has made two appearances for Scotland under-21s, as he is eligible due to his Edinburgh-born mother.

In his last outing for England U21S, Hackney scored the opening goal in a 4-2 win over Portugal. He could be in action again on Thursday, as England take on Czechia, which will be broadcast in the UK on Channel 4.

Three possible reasons Daniel Levy has stayed silent on Ange Postecoglou sacking

Three possible reasons Daniel Levy has stayed silent on Ange Postecoglou sacking - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham’s surprise decision to part ways with Ange Postecoglou has raised eyebrows, but Daniel Levy’s silence on the matter has spoken even louder. Here are three possible reasons Levy has stayed silent on Postecoglou’s sacking at Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the sacking of Ange Postecoglou on 6 June for performance-related reasons, following a poor run of league form that saw the Australian coach pick up 78 points from his last 66 Premier League matches.

The decision meant Postecoglou became the 15th Tottenham manager to be dismissed under Daniel Levy since the chairman took charge in 2001.

It also ended the tenure of the only manager to deliver silverware to the club in the last 17 years, following Spurs’ triumph in the UEFA Europa League.

Understandably, Postecoglou’s sacking has drawn a mixed reaction from the Tottenham fanbase, many of whom did not believe the sacking was justified. Spurs’ official statement insisted the decision had not been made lightly, stressing it was not an emotional call.

However, one notable absence in that statement was any word from Daniel Levy himself – something that raised suspicion, especially given that the Spurs chairman has made a habit of addressing fans in such moments.

From Ryan Mason’s departure to previous managerial exits, Levy’s comments have been a consistent feature. So why the silence now?

MORE SPURS STORIES

Daniel Levy may be preparing his Tottenham exit

It may seem a stretch to suggest Daniel Levy is heading for the exit door at Tottenham, but the lack of his voice in the club’s announcement has inevitably fuelled that very speculation.

After all, if a chairman cannot bring himself to acknowledge the sacking of a manager who won the club their first trophy in nearly two decades, it begs the question – is he on his way out?

Back in 2023, The Telegraph reported that Levy would not step down from his role until he had succeeded at the club. With a European trophy now secured under Postecoglou, some are wondering whether that counts as success in Levy’s book – and whether he is now preparing to depart on what he may see as a high.

Of course, the reality is more complex. With Levy holding a 30% stake in ENIC, walking away is not so straightforward.

But talk of a shifting power dynamic within the club has grown louder, especially after ENIC director Peter Charrington was recently installed as a non-executive director at Spurs. The suggestion is clear – major internal changes could be coming, and a new chairman may well be one of them.

Postecoglou sacking may have gone against Daniel Levy’s wishes

Another plausible theory behind Daniel Levy’s silence is that the decision to sack Postecoglou may not have been one he supported.

While Levy remains the most powerful individual at the club, his control is not absolute. He owns just 30% of ENIC, while the majority lies with shareholders and the Joe Lewis family trust. If he was in favour of keeping Postecoglou but was outvoted, it could explain why he did not issue a statement.

While that might be the case, some reports have suggested that Postecoglou was not a signing that Levy was completely sold on.

Instead, it was Scott Munn, the club’s chief football officer, who is believed to have convinced Levy to bring in the Australian manager in the first place.

If Ange Postecoglou’s arrival was not driven by Levy, then it is possible that the club’s chairman did not want to issue a statement on a manager he was not totally sold on.

That could very well be another reason why he distanced himself from the announcement altogether.

Daniel Levy is avoiding backlash from Tottenham fans

There is also the simple theory that Daniel Levy did not include a statement because he feared the backlash. His popularity among Tottenham fans is at an all-time low, and any public comment may have only worsened tensions.

Levy has long been a target of supporter protests, and with many still bitter over the club’s lack of sustained success, there is a growing dissatisfaction with his leadership.

Thomas Frank of Brentford has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Postecoglou, and there appears to be an appetite for the Thomas Frank move among Spurs fans.

Many have pointed to Frank’s work at Brentford as evidence that he could be the right fit for Spurs going forward.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have been stepping up their interest in Brentford head coach Thomas Frank over the past few days.

On Friday, Tottenham decided to sack Ange Postecoglou as head coach following two years in charge of the club.

Despite guiding Tottenham to a Europa League final win over Manchester United last month, the Australian was unable to keep his job ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, having secured Champions League football.

Tottenham explained their reasons for sacking Postecoglou in a detailed statement, which did, however lack any comment from Daniel Levy.

The Spurs chairman is now on the lookout for the nineteenth person to lead from the touchline, and it appears that the search is nearly over.

Tottenham close to Thomas Frank head coach appointment

Tottenham have wasted little time in seeking a replacement for Postecoglou with Thomas Frank firmly in the frame as his successor.

BBC Sport are reporting that Tottenham’s new CEO Vinai Venkatesham and Levy have been heavily involved in the discussions with Brentford with those talks now progressing well.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is said that there is a growing expectation that Frank could be appointed as Tottenham head coach by the weekend, or even within the next 48 hours.

Frank wants to bring members of his coaching staff to Tottenham

Frank has worked closely with a number of the Brentford backroom staff and talks are underway between the two clubs over how many of the team which the Dane will want to take with him.

Tottenham will have to pay Brentford £10m to release Frank from his contract with the figure set to rise dependent on how many of his team also head out of the exit.

One of those who has been discussed about heading to Tottenham is Justin Cochrane, who previously worked at the club before his departure in 2018.
