Description

Atletico Madrid have now abandoned their pursuit of Cristian Romero and they now expect Tottenham Hotspur to make a big move regarding the Argentine.

The last couple of days have been filled with great news for Spurs fans, with the club making decisive moves in the transfer market.

Mohammed Kudus became Tottenham’s third signing of the summer, becoming the first player to move from West Ham United to Spurs since Scott Parker in 2011.

Even more excitingly, Morgan Gibbs-White could soon arrive through the door in what will be a statement of intent from the Lilywhites ahead of Thomas Frank’s first season in charge.

Additionally, we have heard news over the last 48 hours that Atletico Madrid have called off their pursuit of Cristian Romero, which is almost as good as another signing for the North Londoners.

Atletico Madrid expect Tottenham to make a contract offer to Cristian Romero

That update has now been backed up by The Athletic, who say that Atletico are no longer pursuing the Tottenham vice-captain.

The outlet says that in the end, the La Liga side did not even make a formal approach for Romero and have already started studying potential alternatives.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Interestingly, the outlet adds that Diego Simeone’s men believe that Tottenham will now try to tie the Argentine defender to a new contract.

However, The Athletic do add one caveat, stating that some of what happens at this stage of the window could be mere negotiating tactics, which means that we should not completely rule out the possibility of the Spanish side making an approach for Romero later in the window.

Daniel Levy is ready to break the bank to keep Romero

It was claimed last week that Daniel Levy is prepared to make Romero Tottenham’s highest-paid player to keep him at the club.

However, some sources from Spain have maintained that the centre-back is unlikely to sign a new deal at N17 and that Romero will demand to leave Tottenham this summer as he has his heart set on a move to Atletico.

How Tottenham could line up with Mohammed Kudus, Morgan Gibbs-White and Yoane Wissa in the XI - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank could be spoiled for choice when it comes to selecting his first Tottenham line-up of the new season if he has Mohammed Kudus, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Yoane Wissa to call on.

The Spurs squad is now slowly taking shape under new head coach Thomas Frank, as Tottenham begin to get some summer deals over the line.

Mathys Tel was the first new signing under Thomas Frank, with Spurs agreeing a £29.5million deal with Bayern Munich after the youngster’s six-month loan spell at Tottenham.

Kota Takai has also joined the ranks at Spurs, following his £5million move from Kawasaki Frontale, a transfer that makes him the most expensive J-League player ever to be bought.

Mohammed Kudus has now completed a £55m move to Spurs, with the winger signing a six-year deal that should keep him at Hotspur Way until 2031.

It is claimed that the signing of Kudus would not prevent Tottenham from doing more transfer business, as Yoane Wissa remains firmly on Spurs’ radar.

Should the Lilywhites complete the signing of the Brentford man who grabbed 19 Premier League goals last season, Frank is sure to have more options to work with in attack, and that could affect how Tottenham line up.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Not only that, but Tottenham fans also have Morgan Gibbs-White’s medical to look forward to on Friday, with the Nottingham Forest star set to join in a £60m deal.

We have now decided to put together a hypothetical line-up that shows how Spurs could set up with Kudus, Gibbs-White, and Wissa in their XI.

Tottenham predicted line-up with Mohammed Kudus, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Yoane Wissa

Goalkeeper – Guglielmo Vicario: Of course, in goal, we expect Vicario to be number one between the sticks as he was under Ange Postecoglou.

Right-back – Pedro Porro: Porro was a big part of Spurs’ set-up last season, as the full-back played the most minutes. He has returned to training early as well and should be Tottenham’s starting right-back.

Centre-back – Cristian Romero: The Argentine has been subject to numerous transfer rumours, but it is claimed that no offers have come in yet for Romero. We expect him to be at the heart of the defence should he not be sold.

Centre-back – Micky van de Ven: Van de Ven could be a tactical ace for Frank, as he could be used in a hybrid inverted full-back role and also as a traditional centre-back. His pace would make him indispensable.

Left-back – Destiny Udogie: At left-back, it would be a toss-up between Djed Spence and Udogie. But we would opt for Udogie in this line-up instead.

Pivot-midfielder – Lucas Bergvall: Bergvall will be looking to impress in pre-season, as Tottenham could very much be in the market for a new six, given Yves Bissouma’s inconsistencies.

Centre-mid – James Maddison: In the ten position, we could see Maddison feature there, especially with Dejan Kulusevski expected to return sometime during spring. Kudus could also be used in this position.

Centre-mid – Morgan Gibbs-White: Known for his creativity and impressive engine, Gibbs-White is arguably the perfect Thomas Frank midfielder, offering a consistent blend of flair and running.

Left-winger – Heung-min Son: While there has been talk about Son departing N17 this summer, it has since been revealed that Son is looking to remain at Spurs for at least one more season. Frank will be hoping to get the best out of his experienced winger, but there could be competition for that spot, with Tel waiting in the wings.

Striker – Yoane Wissa: Indeed, it is expected that Dominic Solanke would be the main man up top for Spurs. However, competition for places is essential. Wissa could offer that and would be an upgrade on Richarlison, as he is not as injury-prone as the Brazilian. The Brentford man is a different type of forward to Solanke, which would help Frank in different game scenarios. He could also play off the left, which is a bonus.

Right-winger – Mohammed Kudus: Brennan Johnson is now expected to have more competition on the right, with the arrival of Kudus. Of course, Wilson Odobert can do a job there too, as well as Kulusevski, which makes it very interesting for Tottenham. Johnson managed 18 goals in all competitions last term, while Kudus grabbed five. It would be interesting to see how that battle on the right plays out.

Thomas Frank reveals old-school coaching style as Tottenham step up pre-season training - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has offered a first real glimpse into his managerial approach at Tottenham, lifting the lid on his old-school coaching style and explaining what pre-season at Hotspur Way has looked like so far.

Thomas Frank’s first pre-season game is only just nine days away, as Tottenham Hotspur are set to face Reading on 19 July 2025 at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, Reading.

While it was reported a few days ago that 19 players had returned to first-team training, several others have since begun to link up with the squad and their new manager.

Preparations for the upcoming campaign appear to be going smoothly for Spurs, as Frank has now finalised his new-look coaching staff.

Transfer business is also well underway, with Mohammed Kudus, Takai and Mathys Tel the latest additions under the Danish coach.

Thomas Frank reveals pre-season details at Tottenham

Thomas Frank has opened up on what pre-season preparations at Hotspur Way have involved, and in doing so, he has revealed the type of manager he is, describing himself as somewhat old school in his methods.

The new Tottenham boss explained that his players have begun running drills on the grass before they even get a feel for the ball, adding that more physical work is still to come as he looks to instil a strong mentality within the group.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He said, as relayed by Football.london: “I do not know if I am a modern coach or not sometimes, but we started running today. I think old school is still good school, I think that is still important to have a bit of that.

“Now we had a running test today and we will have that again when the internationals are back and probably also a little bit later down the season.

“But, in general, that was just a short test, basically a 1km test. So if they did it well enough, they are below three minutes 15 seconds. So that sounds easier, with turns by the way.

“So that is one thing that is done and then it is football. Everything with the ball, everything is on that, and then we will top up with some runs because I believe there is a big bit in that mental part of pushing.”

Thomas Frank eager to unite with every Tottenham player

For the first bit of running training that was done, a surprise Spurs player came out on top in that aspect of the session.

Frank has also made it clear that he is eager to get as many players back as quickly as possible, to properly assess the squad and get familiar with his new group.

He stated that he wants to observe the dynamics between his players, particularly how they relate with one another on and off the pitch, as he looks to find what combinations work best for the team.

He continued: “That is what I want. I want everyone in, really compare them against each other, see how they make themselves a relationship.

“Of course, I know the group in terms of looking from the outside, but it is different when you are on the inside and you work with them, you feel them, you understand them better and we all have our own views on certain players or relationship and it is up to me to find that perfect combination that makes the team perform on the highest possible level.”

Tottenham receive worrying update on Destiny Udogie ahead of Thomas Frank era - Spurs Web
Description

In what comes as a huge transfer development, a new report has now revealed Destiny Udogie could ask to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, amidst interest from a Serie A club.

In his second season in North London, Udogie failed to hit the heights that he did in his debut campaign at Spurs, but the Italian did have a strong end to the season, playing a key role in Tottenham’s march to Europa League glory.

Earlier this summer, Udogie was linked with a move to Man City, but Pep Guardiola’s men have since signed Rayan Ait Nouri from Wolves.

Some sources from Italy have claimed over recent weeks that AC Milan could turn their attention to Udogie as they aim to strengthen at left-back this summer, and a fresh update has now revealed how the Tottenham Hotspur man feels about a move to the San Siro.

Destiny Udogie is open to swapping Tottenham for AC Milan

TBR Football have now backed up Milan’s interest in the Spurs left-back and consequently, they say that the 22-year-old is tempted by the chance to work with Massimiliano Allegri at the San Siro.

Udogie is said to find the project at Milan ‘appealing’ but Spurs would rather not sell the defender this summer.

The feeling at Hotspur Way is that the Italy international will continue developing and could take his game to a new level under Thomas Frank.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, it is asserted that should the Rossoneri push ahead with a move for Udogie, the Danish coach will have work to do to convince the full-back to stay at Spurs.

Milan are also looking at a Tottenham Hotspur target

TBR Football say that Udogie is not the only candidate that Allegri’s men are eyeing for the left-back role, with Oleksandr Zinchenko also on their radar.

While the Ukrainian has only one year left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium, his wages will make a deal ‘tricky’ for Milan.

Interestingly, it is alleged that the Italian giants are also admirers of Fulham’s Antonee Robinson but his price might be too high this summer.

Thomas Frank explains how Tottenham will tweak tactics based on opponents

Thomas Frank explains how Tottenham will tweak tactics based on opponents - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank is set to bring a more opponent-specific tactical edge to Tottenham, with coaching responsibilities clearly defined and analysis at the heart of his approach.

Thomas Frank has finalised his backroom staff ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, and his structure marks a departure from what was in place under former boss Ange Postecoglou.

There is now a more segmented approach at Tottenham, with each coach expected to focus on a specific area of the team, offering clearer roles and responsibilities.

In fact, in a recent interview, both Thomas Frank and technical director Johan Lange outlined the individual duties of the newly assembled coaching unit, as they looked to walk fans through some of the behind-the-scenes planning at Tottenham ahead of the new season.

Among those who have joined Frank’s coaching team is Joe Newton, who followed the Dane from Brentford. Newton is expected to operate as a coach analyst, and Frank has already laid out how he intends to use him as part of a more dynamic and fluid approach that will change depending on the opponent.

Thomas Frank explains Tottenham analysis structure with Joe Newton’s role

One of Thomas Frank’s trademarks is his ability to adapt his side tactically depending on the opponent, rather than rigidly sticking to a single system. That was a key feature of his Brentford teams, and it appears he is set to bring that same flexibility to Tottenham.

The Dane, now fully in charge of Spurs, has expanded on how he will implement tweaks through analysis depending on who the team is facing. At the centre of this approach is Joe Newton, who will act as the vital link between the analyst team and the coaching staff.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking to football.london, Frank said: “So in the analysis front, we also got Joe Newton in who came from Brentford as well and he will be like a coach analyst.

“So he will be the bridge between the analyst team and the coaching staff so we make sure that everything is aligned in terms of training, matches, debrief pre and post-match and how we prepare for the opponent.

“But just as in as much and how we debrief the game because it is the way we play, our principles, that is the most important thing, but with the twists we use or how we tweak it to the opponent.”

Spurs hoping for brighter season under Thomas Frank

It does look like exciting times for Tottenham Hotspur, as the club looks to get back to competing with some of the best in the Premier League and in Europe.

Last season, Spurs finished in a lowly 17th place, and now the expectation is that Frank can get Tottenham back into the top six, while also performing well in other competitions, including the UEFA Champions League.

Steve Caulker, a former Tottenham defender, described Frank as a brilliant manager and stated that he believes the upcoming season under the Dane will be exciting, as he believes Frank has earned the right to be the manager of a top club.

Tottenham Hotspur revenue expected to hit £650m next year, but it’s not all good news

Tottenham Hotspur revenue expected to hit £650m next year, but it’s not all good news - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s revenue is expected to grow substantially next year due to their participation in the Champions League, but the club are still expected to be in a negative cash balance, owing to their transfer spending.

Tottenham have posted cumulative operating losses of £232m over the last three financial years, despite generating one of the highest turnovers across the Premier League.

This is primarily due to the club’s transfer spending, with Spurs having accumulated a transfer debt of £280m over the past few years.

That is why Daniel Levy warned a few months ago that Tottenham cannot continue spending beyond their means, but the club’s situation has improved as a result of their qualification for the Champions League.

Spurs turnover is expected to rise by over £120m next season

TBR Football have now pointed out that for the financial year ending £528m, Tottenham Hotspur had a total turnover of £528m.

Given the continued rise of their commercial and matchday revenue, along with the Champions League income, turnover is expected to hit around £650m next year.

However, given their enormous transfer debt, the outlet says that the North London club will likely have a negative cash balance.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is pointed out that if Tottenham do secure a deal for Mohammed Kudus, that will already take their summer net spend beyond £100m.

That means that despite Tottenham having one of the lowest wages-to-turnover ratios in the Premier League, they will continue to post revenue losses.

Will ENIC invest funds into Tottenham Hotspur?

ENIC have invested just £122.1m into Tottenham since buying the club in 2001, which amounts to just £5.3m per season, with the club following a self-sustaining model.

However, it was reported last month by BBC Sport that ENIC may be prepared to pump funds into Tottenham, with the shakeup at board level this summer expected to be a prelude to them investing some money into the club.

Mohammed Kudus gives first Tottenham interview, names three reasons he joined - Spurs Web
Description

Mohammed Kudus has broken his silence following his move from West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur, giving fans an early taste of what to expect from the club’s first big-money summer signing.

Tottenham Hotspur fans have now seen their club complete their first big-money signing of the 2025/26 summer window, with Mohammed Kudus joining from West Ham United for £55million.

The versatile forward, capable of playing across the front line and also as a number ten, has put pen to paper on a six-year deal that is expected to keep him at Hotspur Way until 2031.

This latest acquisition means that Thomas Frank has now overseen the arrival of three players since taking charge of Tottenham on 12 June 2025. Spurs’ summer spending under Frank is now at £89.5 million. However, one of those came in the form of Mathys Tel, who was at Spurs on loan last season.

Mohammed Kudus gives first Tottenham interview after £55m transfer from West Ham

It has since been revealed that despite interest from a host of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, Mohammed Kudus only ever had eyes for Tottenham.

The recent transfer has left West Ham United supporters frustrated with the club’s hierarchy, as many are struggling to understand how one of their best players was allowed to leave for a relatively modest fee, especially when he had an £85million release clause.

Mohammed Kudus has now become only the sixth player to move from West Ham United to Tottenham in the last 23 years, and the first to do so in over a decade since Scott Parker made the same switch in 2011.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Now officially a Tottenham Hotspur player, Kudus has opened up on his decision to join Spurs, stating that he looks forward to giving his best in the Lilywhite shirt.

Mohammed Kudus told the official Tottenham channel: “I’ve always wanted to play at the highest level. How big the club is, the history, and the Champions League as well. It’s a big moment. I’m finally here. I’m very happy and can’t wait to start.

“The most important part of why I came here is the project and how the manager sees I can develop under him. Where he has come from and seeing the amount of talent he has developed to become great players is a big sign of why I wanted to work under him.

“I’m a very direct winger. Strong, good at taking players on and creating chances. There’s a lot of flair in my game, I like to entertain the fans as well. It’s putting memories in the heads of the fans that they have going back home. Fans are really going to enjoy what I bring to the team. That’s what football is about.

“Using my god-given talent to have an impact on where I come from and change the lives of people in my family as well. It takes a lot of hard work and 24/7 focus to play like this.”

Mohammed Kudus added that he is all about helping his Tottenham teammates: “Every game requires a lot of quality and focus, so I’m just here using my individual ability to help the team as far as we can. I’m very team-oriented, so my personal goals lies around helping the team get as many points as we can.”

Kudus to begin pre-season work with Spurs under Thomas Frank

With Kudus now in north London, it should not take long for the Ghana international to begin work with Thomas Frank and the rest of the Tottenham players during pre-season, having already reported for West Ham’s pre-season training before his move to north London.

However, it remains to be seen whether Mohammed Kudus will feature from the start in Tottenham’s friendly against Reading on 19 July.

If he does not, then he could well be introduced from the bench, giving Spurs supporters their first chance to see the former West Ham man in action in Lilywhite.

Description

Alejo Veliz will return to Rosario Central on loan and one of Argentina’s biggest modern-day stars is excited to play with the Tottenham striker.

After struggling to get regular game time and make the expected impact in his loan spells at Espanyol and Sevilla over the last two seasons, Tottenham Hotspur have decided to send the striker to an environment he is comfortable in.

Spurs have confirmed that Veliz will return to Rosario Central on loan, two years on from swapping the Argentine side for North London.

Tottenham have the option to recall Veliz at the end of 2025, and they have not given Rosario a permanent purchase clause.

Angel Di Maria is excited to play alongside Alejo Veliz

The youngster will be keen to get his career back on track at his boyhood club and he will now get to share the dressing room with one of Argentina’s greatest modern-day stars, Angel Di Maria.

That is something that Veliz will undoubtedly be excited about, but it turns out that Di Maria is just as excited about playing alongside the Tottenham man.

Speaking just before the move became official, the former Real Madrid man told ESPN (via Ole and translated by Sport Witness) about Veliz: “I was talking [to Veliz] while I was coming to the stadium. He told me to send his regards. I told him that if I did, it was because he was coming [back to the club]. He replied that I should send them his regards, ha.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I’m sure he’s watching me. It would be very nice if he could come back. I know it’s difficult; he’s young and has many offers. For him to have the initiative to want to come back and play with me at Gigante [Estadio Gigante de Arroyito, Rosario’s home stadium] would be very nice.”

Have Tottenham made the right decision regarding Veliz?

One can certainly understand why Veliz wanted to return to home comforts and experience playing alongside a legend like Di Maria.

Spurs perhaps wanted to give the forward what he wanted after he endured two difficult seasons in Europe. However, one can argue that it may have been much better for his development to loan him to a Championship club.

We already know that the 21-year-old can score goals in the Primera Division, and his market value is unlikely to improve considerably should he shine back at Rosario.

Tottenham officially announce their fourth most expensive signing of all-time - 'He only wanted Spurs' - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham have officially announced the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United as Thomas Frank bolsters his Europa League-winning front line with another star.

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer business was off to a slow start, but during the past few days, two new signings have come through the door.

On Tuesday, July 8, Spurs announced the signing of 20-year-old Japan international Kota Takai, who joined for a record fee of £5 million, the highest amount ever paid for a J-League player.

Spurs have not stopped there either, as Daniel Levy and his board have gone on to splash the cash on West Ham United winger Mohammed Kudus, making the Ghana international the first player to make a direct switch from West Ham to Tottenham since 2011.

In fact, it might be a classic case of London buses for Tottenham fans, as two big-name signings arrive at once after weeks of waiting. Spurs have Morgan Gibbs-White booked in for a medical on Friday, just 24 hours after Kudus had his at Hotspur Way.

Mohammed Kudus becomes Tottenham’s third summer signing under Thomas Frank

It is official, Tottenham Hotspur have now confirmed that Mohammed Kudus will become the third signing under new head coach Thomas Frank – subject to work permit.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The 24-year-old has completed his switch from West Ham to Spurs after the Hammers accepted Tottenham’s £55 million bid.

Kudus has reportedly put pen to paper on a six-year deal, which is expected to keep him at N17 until 2031. However, in the official announcement, Tottenham just describe it as a ‘long-term deal.’

Tottenham managed to secure the Ghanaian’s signature despite interest from Arsenal, Newcastle United and Chelsea, with Kudus only interested in making the move to Spurs.

The winger, who is capable of playing across multiple positions including right wing, left wing, number ten and centre-forward, now joins Kota Takai and Mathys Tel as the three confirmed summer arrivals for the 2025/26 campaign, taking Spurs’ spending so far to £89.5 million.

Spurs fans react as Kudus joins Tottenham for £55 million

Spurs fans have been left delighted with the latest signing, as some believe that Kudus would improve their attack next season.

West Ham fans, however, have expressed frustration after finding out that Tottenham secured the services of one of their best players for a price well below his £85 million release clause.

Kudus managed a modest return of five goals and three assists in the 2024/25 season, and while that could be attributed to West Ham’s inconsistency last term, Spurs supporters will be hoping he can rediscover the spark that saw him bag eight goals and six assists in his debut Premier League campaign.

Tottenham will adore Atletico Madrid’s final Cristian Romero transfer decision - Spurs Web
Description

Atletico Madrid have grown frustrated at waiting for Tottenham Hotspur to change their mind about Cristian Romero and the La Liga giants have now made a big transfer decision regarding the centre-back.

Regular readers of Spurs Web will be aware that Atletico Madrid have been pushing hard to land Romero over the last few months.

It has been widely reported that Romero is keen on joining Atletico and is not interested in signing a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the Lilywhites are not prepared to let the Argentine leave without a fight as Thomas Frank is keen to make Romero one of the central pillars of his side.

Atletico Madrid have given up trying to sign Tottenham’s Cristian Romero

According to a new report in AS, Atletico now realise that Tottenham are not going to sell their vice-captain and have turned their attention to other alternatives.

Diego Simeone’s men have been interested in the Argentine for a long time and made a formal approach for him some time ago, especially after finding out that the defender is keen on making a move to the Metropolitano Stadium.

Tottenham told Atletico a few weeks ago categorically that they will not be selling Romero and informed the Spanish side not to make any formal offer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs’ stance has not changed and the La Liga side have now ‘shelved’ their plan to land the World Cup winner as they are tired of waiting.

The outlet says that Romero will not be wearing the red and white shirt next season, and Atletico’s recruitment team have already started working on signing other alternatives as they are keen to add a centre-back to their squad.

This is because Daniel Levy has no intention of parting ways with the centre-back, who he sees as one of the stars of this Tottenham side.

Romero is back in Spurs pre-season training

The international players, including Romero, have now reported for pre-season training, with Thomas Frank having a full squad to work with.

Some sources have said over recent weeks that Romero could agitate for a move to Atletico if the Premier League side and the Spanish club are not able to agree on a deal.

We will thus surely find out over the next few days if the centre-back indeed demands a transfer or if this proposed move to Atletico this summer is well and truly dead.
