Six-time La Liga winner has no intention of joining Tottenham, as huge wages prove tricky - Spurs Web
Description

Journalist Dean Jones has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have to overcome a couple of big obstacles to sign a six-time La Liga winner in January.

Reports indicate that Spurs have started looking for potential replacements for Guglielmo Vicario, which may not come as a surprise to Tottenham fans, given the unforced errors the Italian has made this season.

Various names have been put forward as potential replacements for the former Empoli man, including a big-name Barcelona star.

It has been suggested that Tottenham are eyeing a move for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has now fallen behind Joan Garcia in Hansi Flick’s pecking order.

Tottenham face big obstacles in Marc-Andre ter Stegen pursuit

Some sources have claimed that Ter Stegen is waiting for Tottenham to make a move, with the German international wanting to play in the Premier League.

However, journalist Dean Jones has now explained that the 33-year-old’s salary may be prohibitive for Spurs and revealed that the experienced goalkeeper is not too keen on a January exit.

When asked about the speculation over Ter Stegen’s future, Jones told TEAMtalk: “It’s not going to be straightforward, as his high wages are going to prove to be an obstacle as well as his desire to move.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“He returned to the Barcelona side this week for his first game in a long time, yet there is no long-term plan for him at the club.

“As one of the highest-paid players in the squad, it’s not ideal to just have him on the bench, but there does not seem to be much intent from him to move.”

Barca are hoping Spurs make an offer for Ter Stegen

While the Germany international may not be keen on an exit from Camp Nou, Jones revealed that Barca are intent on getting him off their wage bill.

The club are hoping that at least a loan offer arrives from the Premier League, but as things stand, no English club has made a concrete move.

Jones added: “I’m told Barca have been hoping that an English side might show interest – even on loan – to cover some of the financial hit.

“Indeed, the Premier League has the most spending power, so it’s seen as one of the most likely destinations he could consider. But at the moment, there are no concrete signs of a move.

“Barcelona attempted to offload Ter Stegen during the summer and brought in Joan Garcia, and the hope has been that he shows a renewed willingness to move in order to secure regular playing time ahead of the World Cup.

“In England, the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea and West Ham are viewed as potential destinations that could be targeted. Indeed, that follows up on information also gathered by my colleague Fraser Fletcher surrounding Ter Stegen’s future. However, at present, I’m told there is no active interest in the 33-year-old Germany international.”

Tottenham fans voice ‘relegation’ frustration as Christmas 2025 reality becomes clear - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham fans are facing a miserable festive period as recent results have seen their side tumble down the Premier League standings ahead of the busy Christmas schedule.

Tottenham Hotspur fans did not receive any Christmas cheer last weekend as they witnessed their side lose 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Liverpool.

It was a mixed performance from the men under Thomas Frank, who showed some grit and looked to make it difficult for the visitors; however, ill-discipline proved costly as they were reduced to nine men.

That defeat has now pushed Spurs further down the table heading into Christmas, as they currently sit in 14th place, only four points above 17th and nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham fans vent frustration as Spurs slump in Premier League table

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been left frustrated with how the season has panned out for their side, and many have taken to social media to voice their dissatisfaction regarding how far the team has fallen.

When comparing the current situation to previous regimes, one fan stated: “Pochettino, a club legend was sacked for being in this position btw.”

while another noted: “Those bottom three teams will likely save us. But a second season finishing 17th? It is definitely possible as it is hard to think of many winnable fixtures for Frank’s Spurs.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Expressing concern about the depth of the squad, one more added: “Unless we buy quality in January there is a chance relegation could be on the cards,” as another commented: “We will finish in 17th again, the next few years are going to be grim.”

A further supporter claimed that the players are not as good as they think they are, suggesting that the club is light years behind everyone else.

Spur fans must be patient with struggling Thomas Frank

Thomas Frank has barely fixed any of the problems that were plaguing Tottenham Hotspur in the past since his appointment as manager.

Defensively, Spurs are still far from elite, with clean sheets in recent weeks hard to come by, and there is also an argument to be made that offensively, the Lilywhites have taken a few steps back under the Dane.

Thomas Frank reveals whether Tottenham will hire a new coach after fresh exit - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have lost another member of their coaching staff, but Thomas Frank has chosen to deliver a positive message regarding his departure.

It has been a season of change at Tottenham Hotspur, beginning with Ange Postecoglou’s sacking and the subsequent appointment of Thomas Frank.

Spurs then made a decision which stunned the club’s fanbase, as Daniel Levy left his role as executive chairman after almost 25 years.

In more recent news, Fabio Paratici has been at the forefront of rumours to end his role at Tottenham, with potential changes still on the horizon.

To add to all this, Spurs have confirmed the departure of Matt Wells, as he takes up his first senior manager role with Colorado Rapids.

Thomas Frank believes Tottenham will survive without Matt Wells

Wells has a long history with Tottenham, having played for their academy, and he most recently served as an assistant coach to Frank.

The 37-year-old’s move is a blow, but the Spurs manager believes his team will cope without Wells in the period where a replacement has not yet been selected.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Reflecting on Well’s exit, Frank said (Football London): “I’m very happy for Matt. It’s a great opportunity for him.

“I think he’s a very talented coach and I think he’s got a good potential to be a good head coach. It’s different when you stand out there on your own. But I think he has all the abilities to do well.

“We will definitely look into replacing him. When and how and how that will look is not clear yet.

“When someone leaves, others need to step up and take on more responsibilities. That will be up to Cameron, Justin and Andreas. Justin and Andreas have been doing that already. There will be a little more to fill in, but I’m sure they are capable of that. Back in the day, you’d only have one assistant, so I think we’ll survive.”

Spurs fans are calling for another coaching change

While Wells departed of his own accord, some elements of the Tottenham support have called on the club to move on from Frank after just a few months in charge.

The former Brentford boss has failed to get his team performing, and they now sit 14th in the Premier League table at Christmas.

Frank will need to sort things out in the new year, or else he might not be too far behind Wells in leaving Hotspur Way for the final time.

Tottenham Hotspur player hailed a ‘hero’ for life-saving action after ‘super quick-thinking’ - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic was quick to jump into action when a dangerous situation occurred in Hamburg’s clash with Eintracht Frankfurt, and his quick thinking may have saved a player’s life.

Vuskovic has seen his market value double since the start of the season and is now considered the sixth most valuable player in the Tottenham squad.

Such has been his growth over the last few months in the Bundesliga, with the 18-year-old showing maturity beyond his years on the pitch.

The centre-back’s latest actions prove once again that he has an extremely wise head on his young shoulders.

Tottenham youngster Luka Vuskovic stops player from swallowing his tongue

Hamburg played out a 1-1 draw at home against Frankfurt on Saturday, and there was an extremely scary incident during the game.

Former Leeds United player Rasmus Kristensen, who plays for Frankfurt, was left in serious danger after a collision with Hamburg’s Miro Muheim, with the Danish defender knocked out cold.

European football expert Andy Brassell has revealed that Vuskovic was quick on the scene to ensure that Kristensen did not swallow his tongue.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Brassell told talkSPORT‘s Joe Brophy about the on-loan Tottenham Hotspur man: “He was a hero at the weekend when they played Eintracht Frankfurt. Rasmus Kristensen smashed into Muheim, one of Vuskovic’s Hamburg teammates, and they both looked in a pretty bad way.

“Despite only being 18, Vuskovic ran across and made sure Kristensen wasn’t swallowing his tongue. He was super quick-thinking and lauded for that. It’s just in keeping with the way that he’s been, not just really good for a team, their aim really is to avoid relegation.”

Andy Brassell makes confident Spurs prediction for Vuskovic

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have been closely monitoring Vuskovic’s development this season, and they are delighted with the way he has progressed.

Brassell is convinced that the teenager will be a first-team fixture at Spurs next season.

He added about the centre-back: “He’s having a brilliant time in Hamburg, so there’s no reason for him to go anywhere. Even though one of his first games was like a 5-0 thrashing at Bayern, he’s looked super comfortable.

Tottenham set for more disappointment after Antoine Semenyo snub due to ‘overambition’

Tottenham set for more disappointment after Antoine Semenyo snub due to ‘overambition’ - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur could be about to miss out on two of their other top attacking targets during the January transfer window.

It was widely reported that Spurs were willing to shatter their wage structure to land Antoine Semenyo, as the club wanted to signal their ambition.

However, the North London side are set to lose out on the Bournemouth winger, who has now narrowed down his choice between Liverpool and Man City.

It has now been claimed that Spurs are also expected to be unsuccessful in their pursuits of two other top-class wingers.

Tottenham expected to miss out on their top Antoine Semenyo alternatives

It emerged a couple of days ago that Tottenham may turn their attention to Maghnes Akliouche after missing out on Semenyo, with the club’s scouts said to have been impressed with the Monaco man.

Some sources have claimed that Spurs have held advanced talks over a deal for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, who has set the Bundesliga alight this term.

However, Dean Jones does not believe Tottenham have a chance of getting either player, suggesting that the club are going after overly ambitious targets.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Jones told TEAMtalk: “Tottenham’s plans for 2026 are already beginning to look too ambitious. They have had a couple of tough moments this year, first with Eberechi Eze going to Arsenal, Morgan Gibbs-White staying at Nottingham Forest, and now they’ve been given the cold shoulder by Antoine Semenyo.

“I don’t think he will be the last. They are scouting players like Maghnes Akliouche (Monaco) and Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig) but those players have top, top teams looking to sign them. The likes of PSG, Bayern Munich… and no one is likely to choose Spurs over those clubs, are they?

“I like the fact that Spurs want to raise the ceiling of what is possible but obviously they are not helped by the fact this season has not started well.”

Dean Jones claims 21-year-old is a realistic target for Spurs

It has been suggested that Tottenham could reignite their interest in Savinho after trying their best to lure him away from Man City in the summer.

Some journalists have said that Man City may be more open to selling Savinho in January than they were in the summer, and Jones also believes that the Brazilian may be a realistic target for Thomas Frank’s side.

He added: “They want a new attacking edge, but they know they also need a backup list of options. Savinho is one player who is part of that.

“The feeling is he might be more attainable than the others, but the problem will be finding a price-point that is agreeable to Manchester City.”

Two reasons Tottenham will be hoping Man City win the race for Antoine Semenyo - Spurs Web
Description

Manchester City winning the race for Antoine Semenyo could aid Tottenham Hotspur in the pursuit of two of their targets.

Spurs Web has relayed several reports over the last few days suggesting that Tottenham are now unlikely to land Semenyo in January.

Liverpool and Man City have now moved ahead of Spurs in the race for the Bournemouth star, who is expected to make a decision on whether to move to the Etihad Stadium or Anfield.

It turns out that if the Ghana international does end up joining Pep Guardiola’s side, that could end up benefiting Spurs.

Tottenham’s move for attacking duo could depend on Antoine Semenyo deal

Some sources have suggested that Spurs could reignite their interest in Savinho if they miss out on Semenyo in January.

Over recent days, some sources have also claimed that Tottenham are increasingly tempted to make a move for Omar Marmoush, who has found game time hard to come by at Manchester this term.

Journalist Dean Jones has now taken to social media to reveal that City are likely to cash in on one of their attacking players, potentially Savinho or Marmoush, if they win the race for the Cherries star.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Jones wrote on X: “Man City will allow for an attacking departure if they win the race for Semenyo. Savinho? Bobb? Marmoush?”

Spurs have identified two other alternatives for Semenyo

It has been claimed that Tottenham are also big fans of RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, who is emerging as one of the best young attackers in the Bundesliga.

However, Spurs would have to break the bank for Diomande, who is also on the radar of many of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Thomas Frank reveals whether Tottenham will appeal Xavi Simons suspension, ‘I want to’ - Spurs Web
Description

Xavi Simons has been slapped with a three-match ban in the Premier League for his red card against Liverpool, and Thomas Frank has revealed whether Tottenham Hotspur will challenge this decision.

Tottenham Hotspur have had a rough ride with injuries, including players who have remained sidelined since last season.

Problems with the availability of players in the Tottenham first-team squad continues to be an issue, and recently this has been due to suspensions.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven will each miss an upcoming fixture for Spurs, and Xavi Simons is out for three Premier League matches after receiving a straight red card during his team’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.

Tottenham will not appeal the ban on Xavi Simons

Thomas Frank believes the decision to send off Simons was incorrect, and he would like to appeal the midfielder’s suspension.

However, the Spurs manager has acknowledged that there is little use in the club challenging the decision to ban Simons, because nothing positive will come from this action.

Speaking to Tottenham Hotspur on whether he would like the decision to be appealed, Frank said: “Yeah, I would like to do it. But I know it does make sense [not to appeal] with the way the rules are.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“We can appeal but we’ll get nothing out of it, as I’ve been told. That is what it is.”

Spurs must survive without Simons

Frank may have his opinions on the incident involving Simons, but a challenge of that kind is going to be a red card more often than not.

Spurs fans will point out that this was not the case in a previous fixture with Liverpool when the offending player was wearing red, but the Dutchman cannot really have any complaints.

Tottenham will have to cope without Simons and this means the attacking line must step up and cause a threat. There has to be more creative output if Spurs are to get results and move back up the table.

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank hits back at Arne Slot over Micky van de Ven comments - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham’s Thomas Frank has now hit back at Arne Slot over Micky van de Ven’s tackle on Liverpool’s record signing Alexander Isak.

It was yet another defeat for Tottenham Hotspur on their own turf when the reigning champions, Liverpool, came visiting to secure a result that has added further pressure on the North London club.

Spurs looked to cause the Reds plenty of trouble throughout the match with their play, but their efforts were ultimately not enough as the side under Arne Slot went away with a 2-1 win.

The encounter was certainly not void of talking points, with Tottenham picking up two red cards, while record forward signing Alexander Isak was forced off right after scoring following a crunching challenge from Micky van de Ven.

Arne Slot criticises Micky van de Ven for tackle during Tottenham defeat

Arne Slot was far from satisfied with the challenge that ended the afternoon for his striker, and he chose to highlight the danger of such tackles when addressing the media after the game.

The Liverpool manager compared the incident to the red card shown to Xavi Simons earlier in the match, suggesting that the tackle from the Dutch defender carried a much higher risk of causing a significant injury to the opponent.

Speaking about the tackle on Alexander Isak, Slot said: “I have said a lot about the tackle of Xavi Simons, which for me was completely unintentional. I do not think you will ever get an injury out of a tackle like that. But the tackle of Micky van de Ven, if you make a tackle like that 10 times, 10 times there is a serious chance the player gets a serious injury.”

Thomas Frank defends Micky van de Ven after Alexander Isak injury

Thomas Frank was quick to offer a different perspective on the incident, choosing to defend the actions of his centre-back as a necessary and fair part of the responsibilities required of a top-level defender.

The Spurs manager argued that the momentum of the transition forced van de Ven into a split-second decision to block the shot, which unfortunately resulted in the collision as the forward planted his foot.

Addressing the comments made by his opposite number, Frank explained his disagreement and praised the competitive nature of his player.

He told the official Tottenham channel: “Obviously, I am disagreeing. In many ways, we are talking about a defender that will do everything to avoid conceding the goal.

“It is a transition so he is sprinting back in. There is a ball slid down in the side and he does everything he can to block that shot. Unfortunately, Alexander Isak has planted his foot straight there which makes it look worse than it is.

“That would be a natural reaction for any defender. Or, put it this way, if my defender does not do that, I do not think they are true defenders. I do not see that at all.

“I think reckless challenges, normally, you have not seen any from Micky, as I remember it. I see him as a very fair and competitive player. That is one thing. I also know the two players have sorted it out so that is a good sign.”

Thomas Frank delivers blunt update on Tottenham duo Kulusevski and Solanke - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has now shared an injury update on Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski ahead of Tottenham’s last game of 2025.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to complete the first half of the season without either Dominic Solanke or Dejan Kulusevski featuring in any meaningful capacity for the North London club.

Kulusevski has been sidelined since the semi-final of the Europa League last season under Ange Postecoglou, having suffered a patella injury that has prevented him from taking to the pitch for Spurs ever since.

While Solanke managed a handful of minutes off the substitutes’ bench earlier in the campaign, the forward has yet to kick a ball for Tottenham since August as his recovery continues behind the scenes.

Thomas Frank has been characteristically blunt in his recent communications regarding the recovery of the two players, and the manager has consistently given very little away to the waiting media.

The Spurs boss has once more shared an update on the fitness of the two forward players ahead of the upcoming game against Crystal Palace, and he has again refused to provide any substantial detail or a definitive timeline for their return.

When pressed for news on whether the duo are nearing a comeback, Frank told the official Tottenham channel that the situation remains unchanged from his previous briefings: “Same as I said before. Both of them, I will be very happy when I can announce now they are part of the squad. That is where it is.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Impact of Kulusevski and Solanke’s absence on Tottenham squad

This latest update from the manager comes after Dejan Kulusevski himself refused to comment on a potential return to action when he was spotted by journalists following the recent league encounter with Liverpool.

Spurs now have just one more Premier League fixture remaining before 2025 comes to a close, and it appears increasingly likely that the calendar year will conclude without either of the two attackers enjoying a consistent run of games.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have now confirmed the departure of one of Thomas Frank’s assistant coaches following interest from the MLS.

Tottenham Hotspur have been going through changes both on and off the pitch, with managerial and board-level adjustments reshaping the club behind the scenes over the past year.

Ryan Mason departed last summer to take up a first-team coaching role at West Bromwich Albion, while Thomas Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou and arrived alongside several members of his Brentford backroom staff.

We reported earlier this month that Spurs could be set to lose another figure from the dugout, with Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids interested in offering one of Tottenham’s assistants a full-time role.

Tottenham confirm Matt Wells departure to Colorado Rapids

Tottenham Hotspur have now confirmed that Matt Wells has taken up a full-time position with MLS outfit Colorado Rapids, bringing his time in north London to an end.

The former Spurs assistant will become head coach of the American-based side, marking the first senior first-team managerial role of his career.

Wells, who worked under Ange Postecoglou and also spent a brief period on Thomas Frank’s coaching staff, departs following a two-year spell at Tottenham, during which he was heavily involved in first-team preparation and development work.

Spurs coach Matt Wells set for first senior managerial role

Colorado Rapids are securing a coach with significant experience at the top level in Europe, with Wells set to become one of the youngest managers in the division.

Despite being just 37, the former Tottenham coach has built up an extensive coaching CV, including a 100-game spell as Postecoglou’s assistant and a run of more than 20 matches working alongside Frank.

Before his move to Spurs, Wells also held assistant manager roles at Club Brugge, Fulham and Bournemouth, working closely with Scott Parker during those spells.

His first taste of leading a side came with Tottenham’s under-18s, where he oversaw 17 matches and posted an impressive points-per-game return of 2.59.
