Everton should rival Crystal Palace for Tottenham outcast in January as Dwight McNeil upgrade - everton.news
Description

Everton’s recruitment team is expected to be busy throughout the January transfer window.

The Toffees are in a decent position (12th) halfway through the Premier League campaign, but there is plenty of room for improvement.

It has become abundantly clear that David Moyes does not have enough quality options beyond the starting eleven.

The Everton board are unlikely to spend big next month, but they should provide Moyes with enough funds to make a few shrewd signings.

Here, we have suggested a deal for an out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur player that would make perfect sense.

Is there a better option out there for Everton instead of Nicolas Jackson? 🤔

Everton should target Brennan Johnson in the January transfer window

Everton will probably not be in the market for any high-profile signings that would threaten their transfer record (£45 million).

Instead, they could explore opportunities to sign transfer-listed players for less than their market value.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

A prime example would be Brennan Johnson, who has struggled for minutes under Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

The Welshman is thought to be unhappy with his lack of playing time in North London and could be on the move next month.

Sky Sports are now reporting that Bournemouth have joined Crystal Palace in the race to sign Johnson, but why not Everton?

Johnson is a Premier League-proven goalscorer from the wing positions, which cannot be said about Dwight McNeil or Tyler Dibling.

So, if he were available on loan or as a cheap transfer, Everton would be wise to add him to their ranks ahead of the two south coast clubs.

It would represent a similar deal to the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea – a player not quite good enough to play consistently for a Big Six club.

Was it a mistake to let Dominic Calvert-Lewin go? 🤔

The former Everton striker is on fire at Leeds! 🔥

Everton should make at least three signings in January

Everton should sign at least three players in the January transfer window if they want to climb the Premier League table in 2026.

As it stands, the Toffees probably lack the strength in depth to maintain a position in the top half for all 38 games.

The priority for Everton has to be a new striker, as Thierno Barry and Beto have only scored two goals between them this season.

Meanwhile, a new right-back will also be on the agenda due to Seamus Coleman’s injury struggles and Nathan Patterson falling out of favour.

The third signing could either be a goalscoring winger, such as Johnson, or a central midfielder to avoid recalling Harrison Armstrong from his loan at Preston.

Everton are going to need to bolster their options in midfield during the January transfer window.

It has been issue after issue for David Moyes in recent weeks when it comes to his midfield options on Merseyside.

On Tuesday, Everton returned to winning ways, but the points were slightly tainted by Tim Iroegbunam’s fifth yellow card of the season.

Iroegbunam will now miss Everton’s game against Nottingham Forest at the weekend, leaving Moyes without the following midfielders:

Everton News columnist Alan Myers is hoping Everton sign another midfielder in the January transfer window.

One player believed to be on the radar is Tottenham Hotspur’s Yves Bissouma and he may have just dropped a clue over his future.

Yves Bissouma drops clue on his future amid Everton interest

Tottenham are open to selling Bissouma in January on the back of interest from clubs like Everton over the summer.

The Mali midfielder is currently working through an injury issue, but is set to see his contract expire at the end of the season in north London.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

As he works on his return, footage of Bissouma has surfaced on Snpchat, showing the midfielder to be wearing a Fenerbahce shirt.

Everton need midfielders, but would you want to see Yves Bissouma signed? 😬

Bissouma was linked with a potential move to Turkey with Galatasaray interested in working a deal for the 29-year-old.

That proposed move fell through and Bissouma is now wearing the shirt of their bitter rivals, Fenerbahce.

West Ham were also keen on Bissouma over the summer, with his future in north London seemingly done.

Whether he is hinting towards a move to Turkey or not, wearing another team’s shirt is not usually something that goes down well among fans.

Everton absolutely must invest in their midfield

Rohl is expected to return from injury in January, but the Blues will still be without Gueye for a few weeks.

Moyes has admitted that Everton will consider recalling Harrison Armstrong from his loan stint with Preston North End.

Use just one word to sum up this man’s performance vs Bournemouth!

Everton News understands that Moyes would like to leave Armstrong at Preston for the remainder of the season to continue his development.

More is going to be needed in January through some means.

The suspension to Iroegbunam is going to stretch Everton’s midfield options even more at the weekend.

Whether Bissouma is the answer remains to be seen, with the midfielder having not played a single minute this season.

Perhaps this could be one to revisit in the summer for Everton.

Jamie Carragher reckons sacked Everton manager could end up at Tottenham

Jamie Carragher reckons sacked Everton manager could end up at Tottenham - everton.news
Description

Everton have had seven permanent managers over the last decade, so it’s fair to say they’ve made their fair share of bad appointments.

Rafa Benitez was perhaps the worst, as the former Liverpool boss lasted less than seven months in charge.

Frank Lampard wasn’t brilliant either, although he did manage to steer Everton away from relegation in the 2021/22 season.

Lampard is now smashing it at Coventry City, and it looks as though he’ll be back in the Premier League next season.

With that said, Jamie Carragher actually reckons one of Everton’s other sacked managers could end up becoming Tottenham Hotspur boss after his career resurgence.

Jamie Carragher thinks former Everton boss Marco Silva could end up at Tottenham

Speaking on the latest episode of the Overlap, Carragher explained that Everton should never have sacked Marco Silva and he can see him managing Tottenham one day.

“I actually think he was the one manager Everton should have stuck with,” the Sky Sports pundit said.

“You know when Everton kept sort of changing manager with Moshiri and the owner, he was the one I sort of liked.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

“I’ve always seen Silva at almost Tottenham, I’m not saying Tottenham as in change Thomas Frank put Marco Silva in.

“The point I’m trying to make is not quite go from Fulham to like you know a Liverpool or Manchester City you think going to sort of compete for the league but sort of that sort of level just belong with it trying to get you know Champions League maybe, you know Aston Villa, that type of team that would almost be the next step for him in the Premier League. I think he probably deserves one of those jobs.”

Marco Silva has been linked with several jobs

Silva has gained promotion with Fulham and established them as a proper Premier League club, so he’s certainly earned a move elsewhere.

In the summer, it was reported that Silva had agreed to join Al-Hilal, but that move to Saudi Arabia never materialised.

Silva was also linked with the Spurs job before Daniel Levy and his staff decided to appoint Thomas Frank from Brentford.

The Portuguese head coach is out of contract at the end of the season, so he may well depart Craven Cottage after five years at the club.

How Everton could actually re-sign Richarlison from Tottenham in January - everton.news
Description

Everton’s search for a new striker in the January transfer window could lead them to the familiar face of Richarlison.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker has endured his own struggles since making the move from Merseyside to North London in 2022.

Richarlison became a fan favourite among many during his time at Everton but departed for Spurs in a deal worth around £60m.

Everton News understands that Richarlison would be keen on a potential return to Everton next year as he fails to nail down the starting striker role under Thomas Frank.

Important months lie ahead of the 28-year-old, who is fighting to retain his spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

As Everton target a January signing of a striker, just how the Blues could potentially reunite with Richarlison has now been shared.

Everton’s best chance of signing Richarlison from Tottenham shared

Ancelotti dropped Richarlison from Brazil’s starting XI for the recent game against Senegal at the Emirates Stadium.

With Richarlison needing solid minutes for the remainder of the term, and Everton needing a new striker, an interesting January awaits.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Speaking on BBC Sport, Everton reporter Giulia Bould has shared her thoughts on how Everton may be able to re-sign the Tottenham forward.

“The Blues boss has already stated he will look at strengthening his squad in January but he also warned it is a notoriously difficult window to operate in, with prices often hiked up,” he said.

Do you want to see Richarlison return to Everton?

“A loan could be a good fit for Everton if Spurs were open to it. The Brazil international has made just four league starts this term but there is no suggestion right now that they would be willing to let the 28-year-old go.”

There have been a lot of Tottenham fans urging Richarlison to leave for Everton in the January transfer window.

It has been a real struggle for the former Blues striker in north London, with injuries playing a big part in his struggles with the Lilywhites.

Everton could sign a hungry Richarlison in January

There would certainly be some risk in the potential re-signing of Richarlison, given Everton need a striker who is going to guarantee them goals.

It has been suggested that Richarlison is open to leaving Tottenham over the coming months as he eyes regular football.

This is a player who would land back on Merseyside with a real point to prove ahead of the World Cup next summer.

Is Troy Parrott the perfect January signing for Everton?

However, Everton News revealed last week that Everton have also been monitoring Troy Parrott, who is showing some incredible form.

At the age of 23, Parrott is scoring more frequently than Richarlison – albeit in the Eredivisie – and still has years on the Brazilian.

Everton have a big decision to make when it comes to signing a new striker in January.

Troy Parrott’s stance on re-signing for Tottenham revealed amid links to Everton - everton.news
Description

Everton have been heavily linked with a move to sign Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott over the last week.

David Moyes had scouts watching Troy Parrott for Ireland over the international break, as he netted two goals against Portugal and a hat-trick against Hungary.

Moyes is keen to sign a centre-forward to support Thierno Barry and Beto, who are both struggling to deliver.

Is Troy Parrott the perfect January signing for Everton?

Competition for Parrott is already growing, as Bayern Munich and Juventus have been keeping tabs on his situation.

There have, of course, been links with his former club Tottenham Hotspur, and now Everton have learned an update on that potential competition.

Everton target Troy Parrott unlikely to join Tottenham Hotspur

Parrott’s stock has risen dramatically over the last week after his hat-trick against Hungary went completely viral.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

The Everton target netted a stoppage-time winner to send Ireland to the World Cup play-offs, where they will play the Czech Republic.

As Parrott continues to net for AZ Alkmaar and The Boys in Green, more potential suitors are circling, but according to Ben Jacobs, Tottenham Hotspur won’t be rivalling the Toffees.

“A lot of people are asking me about Tottenham Hotspur as well, a return to Spurs is unlikely,” Jacobs told GiveMeSport’s YouTube channel.

“It’s been kind of ruled out by all parties, there’s no buy-back clause as far as Tottenham are concerned, but they do have a sell-on of 20%.”

So it looks as though Everton are actually in pole position to land his signature at the moment, with the window opening in six weeks time.

How would you rate Everton’s 2025/26 season so far?

How much do AZ Alkmaar want for Troy Parrott?

According to GiveMeSport, AZ Alkmaar are willing to sanction Parrott’s sale if a bid of around £30m arrives.

The Dutch outfit paid around £7m for the 23-year-old last summer, so they’d be in line to make a substantial profit.

Which do you prefer, the Hill Dickinson Stadium or Goodison Park?

Alkmaar’s current record sale is Tijjani Reijnders to AC Milan, which earned them just over £20m, so Parrott’s departure will likely trump that.

The current sticking point is whether Everton have the funds to spend £30m in January, considering they shelled out in excess of £100m in the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino got his Troy Parrott prediction all wrong, but Everton could now benefit

Mauricio Pochettino got his Troy Parrott prediction all wrong, but Everton could now benefit - everton.news
Description

What Mauricio Pochettino said about Troy Parrott back in 2019 hasn’t come true, but Everton could benefit from it.

Everton scouts are keeping a close eye on Troy Parrott ahead of the January transfer window, with David Moyes keen to sign a centre-forward.

Parrott scored five goals over the international break, with two against Portugal and a memorable hat-trick against Hungary to send Ireland to the World Cup play-offs.

Is Troy Parrott the perfect January signing for Everton?

Toffees scouts would’ve certainly been impressed by the 23-year-old’s performances, so it wouldn’t at all be surprising if he’s moved up to become the first-choice target, ahead of Ivan Toney and Joshua Zirkzee.

With that said, ahead of a potential transfer to Everton, we’ve looked back at the prediction Mauricio Pochettino made about the former Tottenham Hotspur frontman back in 2019.

What Mauricio Pochettino said about Everton target Troy Parrott back in 2019

Parrott was given his long-awaited Tottenham debut back in September 2019, as he started against Colchester United in the EFL Cup.

Speaking after the game, then Spurs boss Pochettino made the claim that Parrott will be a ‘very important’ player for the club.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

“He needs time,” the Argentine boss said.

“For sure he’s going to be a very important player for Tottenham Hotspur in the future but he needs time, maybe one year, two year.

“We need to create space for young ones to find their natural space in the squad. We need time with the new signings as well. We’ve been unlucky with them.”

Ultimately, that prediction never came true, as Parrott ended up making four first-team appearances for the North Londoners before leaving on a permanent deal to AZ Alkmaar in 2024.

Everton could now benefit from Troy Parrott’s unusual career path

Parrott has been forced to rebuild his career in the Netherlands after loan spells with Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons and Preston North End.

The 2002-born striker has become prolific in the Eredivisie with Excelsior Rotterdam and now AZ Alkmaar.

Parrott averages one goal every two games in Holland’s top flight, which is pretty impressive considering he’s not at one of the top clubs like Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord.

He also has a good record with the Irish national team, netting 10 in 33 caps, so his many different experiences will set him in good standing to become a Premier League striker at Everton.

Parrott’s success abroad has clearly given him much more belief and confidence in his ability, which is sometimes the difference maker in top-level football.

Joleon Lescott revealed why David Moyes rejected chance to sign Gareth Bale for Everton

Joleon Lescott revealed why David Moyes rejected chance to sign Gareth Bale for Everton - everton.news
Description

Everton actually had the chance to sign Gareth Bale during his first spell at Tottenham Hotspur, but David Moyes turned the deal down.

Gareth Bale is widely regarded as one of the best footballers Britain has ever produced, as he was a world class winger for several years.

Bale won five Champions League titles with Real Madrid, and scored perhaps the best goal in the competition’s history against Liverpool in the 2018 final.

The Welshman was probably the best player in the Premier League before he left for a world-record £85m fee in 2013.

That makes it all the more painful that Everton actually could’ve signed him in a swap deal years before that.

Everton had the chance to swap Leighton Baines for Gareth Bale

Speaking to Sky Sports in 2020, former Everton defender Joleon Lescott reflected on the time when David Moyes turned down the chance to sign a young Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur.

“I remember that time, it was around when he (Bale) was getting stick for his first 20 appearances or something like that ending in a loss,” Lescott explained.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

“Coming in after the game (against Spurs), Bainesy, who I was really close with, we were talking, and Harry Redknapp wanted to swap them.

“He pulled Baines to one side, had a conversation with him, so I asked ‘What was going on there?’

“He said they were interested in doing a swap for Bale.

“One of the main reasons that didn’t happen was because Bale’s record was so bad and David Moyes didn’t want to swap.”

To be fair to Moyes, very few would’ve predicted Bale to become the player he did at that time, as he was a left-back who was really struggling.

Meanwhile, Baines was an established top Premier League full-back, so there is important context around it.

Leighton Baines became an Everton legend

So, had Moyes accepted the swap deal, Baines would’ve become a Tottenham player, which is hard to imagine.

The left-back wouldn’t have then become a club legend at Everton, so it’s all swings and roundabouts really.

Baines ended up playing a whopping 420 times for the Toffees and collected a commendable 30 caps with England.

Baines is now part of Moyes’ coaching staff, and Steven Naismith previously said he plays a really important role behind the scenes.

“Bainesy is somebody who wants to make sure he’s making the right choice, and then when he’s done it, you do see his knowledge and his understanding,” Naismith told Everton’s website in April.

“I think the way he sees the game is different, and the way he teaches it. Even when I was playing with him, the way he would describe different situations, he delivered it in a different, really clear way.

“I know, 100 per cent, he will have helped the Academy players that he was dealing with, and now that he’s stepped up, it will be the same for the senior players as well because he’s very good.”

So, even though Everton missed out on signing Bale, they still benefited greatly from keeping Baines at the club for many years.

Report: Everton-linked Yves Bissouma learns latest Tottenham Hotspur contract stance ahead of January - everton.news
Description

Everton showed an interest in Yves Bissouma over the summer and may keep tabs on the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.

Everton brought in new midfield quality over the summer as David Moyes bolstered his engine room.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall came in from Chelsea before Merlin Rohl secured a deadline day move from Freiburg.

Moyes has loved Dewsbury-Hall’s impact further forward, though Rohl is still adjusting to Premier League life.

Everton may look for another midfield addition in January, with Yves Bissouma potentially still on the radar.

Tottenham Hotspur stance on Everton-linked Yves Bissouma

Everton were linked with Bissouma over the summer, but the midfielder ended up staying at Tottenham.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion man has proven himself in the Premier League and now looks ready for a fresh start.

Bissouma is out of contract at the end of the season, and a Tottenham exit looks to be inevitable.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Intriguingly, the Daily Mail claim that Tottenham are actually planning to activate a one-year option on Bissouma’s contract.

Spurs want to sell Bissouma in January, but are prepared to extend his contract if a buyer can’t be found.

Tottenham don’t want to lose Bissouma for nothing and will risk having him sit around for another year, just to try and bring in some cash for him.

That is quite the risk, and Everton will be watching Tottenham’s plans with Bissouma very closely.

Yves Bissouma would be a gamble for Everton

Everton may sense an opportunity to strike a bargain here.

Spurs will happily cash in on Bissouma, and his lack of playing time this season means they aren’t exactly in a strong negotiating position.

Bissouma could be a bargain addition, but Moyes must be wary.

Bissouma was axed by Tottenham earlier this season after a number of instances of being late.

Thomas Frank wasn’t impressed with Bissouma’s behaviour, and we can’t imagine Moyes would be a big fan either.

Add in Bissouma’s injury problems this season, and the Mali international would be a real gamble for Everton, even in a cut-price swoop.

David Ornstein makes Jarrad Branthwaite to Tottenham claim despite signing new Everton deal - everton.news
Description

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite inked his new deal over the summer, but David Ornstein has still discussed a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur.

David Moyes will be keen to make some exciting January additions at Everton to add to the encouraging work done over the summer.

Just as important as adding to the squad will be keeping the best players around on Merseyside.

After all, Moyes is targeting European qualification with Everton this season after being backed by the Friedkins in the market.

Branthwaite is a player who Everton will be stern on keeping at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the foreseeable future.

Despite it being claimed that Branthwaite is happy at Everton, Ornstein has now name-dropped the centre-back once again when discussing transfers.

David Ornstein name drops Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite amid Tottenham interest

Branthwaite has undergone hamstring surgery in recent weeks and is still yet to play a competitive game since signing his new contract.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

There has been no timescale placed on his potential return following numerous setbacks already this term.

However, speaking to Planet Futebol, Ornstein has said Branthwaite should be Tottenham’s dream transfer.

“Jarrad Branthwaite, because I think they’ve been looking for a while to upgrade in that defensive department,” said Ornstein.”

“They’ve looked at him [Branthwaite] and he’s somebody who’s been linked with a move away from Everton even though he’s signed a new contract. I guess he’s one to watch in the future for many of the top clubs.”

Branthwaite holds a shocking injury record over recent years over recent years, with his hamstrings causing him some major issues.

Fortunately, Michael Keane and James Tarkowski have formed a strong partnership at the back for Moyes, who will be keen to see Branthwaite make a full recovery.

Everton will not entertain an exit for Branthwaite

It has already been suggested that Manchester United and Liverpool hold an interest in Branthwaite.

However, there will be no rush for the Blues to allow their star defender to leave the club on the back of inking his new deal.

Branthwaite is now under contract until 2030, which will prove costly for any interested clubs to prise him away from Merseyside.

The young defender has endured a rough year when it comes to injuries, but he will be keen to repay Everton’s faith when he is fully fit.

Ironically, Rio Ferdinand thinks Leny Yoro is better than Branthwaite following the ongoing links to Old Trafford.

When the defender does return to action, he will be able to put to bed that suggestion.

Andy Burnham says Everton’s new stadium has something that Tottenham’s simply doesn’t - everton.news
Description

Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium has been a hot topic of discussion among fans across the country and Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has now joined in.

Three points were sealed by Everton at the weekend in their game against Marco Silva’s Fulham on the docks.

Everton News understands that Silva is under pressure at Fulham following the loss and Brendan Rodgers is being considered as an option.

With pressure being eased off David Moyes, there is mounting pressure on the local authorities to fix the transport links to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The new home of the Blues was rocking on Saturday, with the players putting on a performance the fans could really get behind.

Fulham fans loved the Hill Dickinson Stadium and there is something about it that Burnham thinks separates it from the likes of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Andy Burnham waxes lyrical about Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium

Even Moyes was wowed by the Hill Dickinson Stadium atmosphere at the weekend in the game against the Cottagers.

And that is a big part of what makes Burnham believe the new home of the Blues is far superior to its competitors.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Speaking to Everton News columnist Alan Myers on The Added Time Podcast, Burnham admitted he thinks the Hill Dickinson is better than Tottenham’s ground.

“I think Hill Dickinson is the first of a new generation of modern stadium, even more so than Spurs, I think, because that kind of noise factor is there, isn’t it?” Burnham told Myers.

“You know, the kind of soullessness of some of the modern stadia, I think, has sort of regenerated, but not in a way that, you know, look at West Ham fans, I think they’re feeling, you know, I think they felt pretty envious, didn’t they, when they came to Hill Dickinson recently.”

Everton fans were frustrated with the public transport at the new stadium once again at the weekend, with fans waiting hours to leave the docks.

However, the experience on offer inside the Hill Dickinson Stadium is something that is certainly living up to expectations.

Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium could get even louder

Steve Parish hailed the Hill Dickinson Stadium for surpassing his expectations having loved what Goodison Park offered.

The atmosphere at the weekend was fantastic and epitomised what the new stadium was built for.

But it could get even louder as Everton consider expanding the Hill Dickinson Stadium to around 62,000.

Burnham’s comments will not go down well with some in the media, though.

Jamie O’Hara slammed Everton’s stadium as a copy of Tottenham’s, with some really harsh criticism thrown the way of the Blues.

“Have you seen Everton’s Stadium? Have you seen inside it? It looks like a toy Spurs stadium,” said the 39-year-old.

Regardless of O’Hara’s opinion, Tottenham could only wish to replicate the form Everton have shown in front of their own fans this season.
