Everton fans genuinely think David Moyes doesn't like one Toffees star after Tottenham defeat - everton.news
Description

Everton suffered a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday, and fans have made an interesting claim about David Moyes.

David Moyes’ side were poor from set-pieces, as they conceded two sloppy goals from corner kicks, but aside from that, it was a fairly even game.

Iliman Ndiaye was really impressive, and he was unfortunate not to get a couple of assists after delivering dangerous crosses.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall failed to make much of an impact, though, and that led many to question why Moyes didn’t make a change earlier.

Fans are finding his treatment of one Everton star quite baffling.

Everton fans baffled by David Moyes’ treatment of Tyler Dibling

Tyler Dibling arrived in a whopping £40m deal in the summer, however, Moyes has started him just once in the Premier League.

The former Southampton winger has barely been getting a look in off the bench, too, and against Spurs, he was an unused substitute.

With that said, Everton fans are now questioning whether Moyes likes Dibling and if he’s made the decision that he’s not good enough already.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

“I find it absolutely mind-boggling that we spent 40 million quid on a lad that gets nowhere near our first 11,” @adamsg1878 posted.

“Sick of the shouts players aren’t ready such as Aznou dibling etc just a load of s—- proper stuck in his ways Moyes,” @cd98233382784 added.

@LiamT30EFC commented: “Moyes begs the board for dibling and has given the lad f— all minutes, makes no f—— sense.”

“Obviously don’t sack Moyes but if all we really want is midtable this season we don’t lose anything by playing the younger players and letting them develop. Aznou and Dibling should have way more minutes by now, and we can actually deduce if Barry is s— or not,” @BillEvram said.

David Moyes has insisted he has a plan for Tyler Dibling

Moyes has maintained that he does have a plan for Dibling and is going to remain patient with him until he gets up to speed.

Speaking after the West Ham United draw last month, the Scotsman said: “We like Tyler a lot, but he’s another one we’ll bring on in time.

“My first time here I had lots of players I brought in. We took a bit of time with them, we didn’t rush them.

“We’ll just have to accept we’ll bring Tyler on when we’re ready. I thought he kept the ball well and did some good things.”

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer agree on whether Everton's goal should've stood vs Tottenham - everton.news
Description

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have given their verdict on whether Jake O’Brien’s goal should’ve stood for Everton against Tottenham Hotspur.

Jake O’Brien equalised for Everton shortly after Micky van de Ven’s opening goal for the visitors, however, referee Craig Pawson went over to the VAR monitor and overturned it.

Iliman Ndiaye was in an offside position, and referee Craig Pawson deemed him to be interfering with Guglielmo Vicario.

Gary Neville said he was split on whether O’Brien’s goal should’ve stood, and now Lineker and Shearer have had their say on the controversial decision.

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer not happy Everton’s goal was overturned

Speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker and Shearer admitted it didn’t sit easy with them when O’Brien’s goal was disallowed.

Lineker asked: “Al, about the disallowed goal for Everton disallowed goal?

“I mean, he wasn’t given as a foul, he was given offside. He was in an offside position, but he didn’t touch it. It was probably just about interfering with the goalkeeper.”

Shearer responded: “Yeah, I mean, it doesn’t sit easy with me. Well, it’s very difficult to argue with the laws because there’s no way the keeper is stopping that anyway, irrespective of whether someone’s in front of him or not.”

MORE EVERTON STORIES

He continued: “The keepers not stopping that, even if someone is in and around him, he’s just not stopping it.

Lineker: “I agree.”

James Tarkowski admitted Jake O’Brien decision was correct

Quite surprisingly, Moyes said the referee made the right decision in ruling out Everton’s goal, and James Tarkowski agreed.

“To me, if that was given against us, I would be disappointed. It’s a bit subjective but from what I have seen it was probably offside,” the Everton captain admitted post-match.

Attention very quickly turns to the Sunderland game next Monday, which is the penultimate game before the November international break.

Sunderland are flying high this season and have just gone to Stamford Bridge and beaten Chelsea 3-1, moving them up to fourth in the Premier League table.

Alan Myers laments key issue that’s costing Everton points in the Premier League

Alan Myers laments key issue that’s costing Everton points in the Premier League - everton.news
Description

So the Hill Dickinson Stadium has been breached, with Everton finally losing their first game at their new home.

And if there was any team that was going to do it, it was going to be Tottenham Hotspur – having won more games against Everton than any other team in the Premier League era.

It was disappointing for me though to lose the goals from set pieces, especially with the same player scoring two of said goals as Micky van de Ven popped up to net a brace in the 3-0 win for Spurs. Defensively Everton never coped with Tottenham’s attackers in the box.

Everton’s striker woes continue in defeat to Tottenham Hotspur

I know I’m probably beginning to sound like a broken record, but once again Everton failed to convert early chances. A penny particularly for Iliman N’Diaye’s thoughts, who put in a great performance and caused Spurs a whole host of problems from the right flank, but each time there was simply no one there to finish things off.

Everton and David Moyes really need to find another option from a striker point of view because it’s starting to cost them points. I’m not sure what the answer is, but I know it’s not happening at the moment and so will Moyes.

As I was driving away from the stadium, I heard one Everton fan describe Beto as that riderless horse in the Grand National that keeps going even though he’s never going to win the race.

Maybe that’s a bit harsh, but as I’ve said often his endeavor and hard work cannot be criticised but as a striker, you will be judged on goals and he just isn’t scoring enough of them.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Even when the manager mixed it up bringing on Thierno Barry, nothing changed. There is no threat in front of goal.

It’s important to say, though, that the whole responsibility for scoring goals shouldn’t be just on the strikers, Everton need more players to get involved. Good sides have always shared the goals around the team, and there is a responsibility there.

That’s why it was good to see Jake O’Brien take that chance – a goal that was eventually disallowed – with or without the infringement, it’s clear the goalkeeper was never saving it.

Merlin Rohl aiming to ‘keep improving’ after positive start to life at Everton

The second of the substitutes Moyes made was Merlin Rohl and I have to say, from the little I’ve seen of him, I’ve been impressed. He looks very comfortable on the ball and wants to take it forward at every opportunity which is great to see.

I spoke with the German midfielder after the game and he told me: “I’m delighted to get a few more minutes on the pitch, it’s good that the coach is trusting me. I want to keep improving.”

It’s very early days, but I honestly believe we have a player on our hands here. Sometimes you can just tell, and I really like the look of him.

He is calm and assured on the ball and isn’t afraid of putting himself about, I’m looking forward to seeing him progress in this team.

Overall, we shouldn’t be too down after the defeat. I didn’t think Tottenham Hotspur were that much better than Everton on the day, but they took their chances and if we can find a way to do that – especially as the busy period over November and December arrives – then we will start getting wins I’m sure.

Five things learned as Everton lose to Tottenham Hotspur in first Hill Dickinson Stadium defeat - everton.news
Description

Everton’s unbeaten run at Hill Dickinson Stadium is over after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

Micky van de Ven’s first-half brace left Everton in the mire, while Jake O’Brien had a first-half header disallowed.

Everton huffed and puffed, but couldn’t blow the Tottenham door down before Pape Matar Sarr added number three.

Everton’s striking situation won’t get better any time soon

Another game, another blank for Everton’s strike force.

Beto forced Guglielmo Vicario into one brilliant save, but he struggled for large spells against Micky van de Ven and Kevin Danso.

Thierno Barry has endured a slow start at Everton, and he wasn’t much better when he came on.

Everton’s situation up top won’t improve before January, and the winter transfer window may not solve the problems.

Toffees fans may remember the impact of Nikica Jelavic after his January 2012 arrival, but finding a player to make that instant impression is not easy.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

James Garner to right-back must be considered

David Moyes may need to consider changes to make Everton a little more dangerous going forward at home.

Jake O’Brien is a fine young defender, but he is not a natural right-back – and it shows when Everton are chasing games.

Seamus Coleman, perhaps, isn’t the solution, but James Garner has performed well at right-back in the past.

Alan Stubbs has suggested Garner to right-back and that is something Moyes must consider moving forward, whether from the start or after substitutions.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall under pressure

Moyes went with summer signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall as his number 10, as has been the case for most of the season.

Dewsbury-Hall is neat and tidy, but he keeps it ‘safe’ far too often in the final third.

Everton needed real thrust in the second half, but saw Dewsbury-Hall play safe and reserved even at 2-0 down.

Dewsbury-Hall was a significant addition over the summer, but Carlos Alcaraz is knocking on the door.

The former Chelsea man needs to step it up soon, or Alcaraz will take his spot.

Merlin Rohl catches the eye

Everton fans have been looking forward to seeing deadline day signing Merlin Rohl in action ever since his arrival from Freiburg.

Rohl is on loan from Freiburg with a permanent option teed up for 2026, but an injury has halted his impact.

The German is still settling for appearances off the bench, but he showed some flashes of real quality on the turn against Spurs.

Rohl also had a chance to score but missed the target, and we are excited to see him in action over the coming weeks and months.

Everton can still tighten up from set pieces

Everton boasted a strong record heading into Sunday’s game, sitting as the only Premier League club not to concede a set-piece goal this season.

Peter Drury championed that statistic on Sky Sports, just before Micky van de Ven headed in the opener.

As if one wasn’t bad enough, Everton then conceded from another set piece as Van de Ven buried another corner.

Everton had been strong from set pieces, but it’s clear that there is still work for Moyes and co today after Sunday’s goals.

Jake O’Brien had a goal ruled out as Everton suffered a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton’s unbeaten record at Hill Dickinson Stadium is over after losing to Tottenham Hotspur.

Micky van de Ven headed Tottenham in front before repeating the trick from another corner before half-time.

Everton couldn’t break Tottenham down in the second half, and Pape Mate Sarr’s header secured a 3-0 win for Spurs.

Everton have now tasted back-to-back defeats since the international break, and David Moyes will seek answers.

David Moyes on Jake O’Brien’s disallowed goal

Everton appeared to have scored an equaliser when Jake O’Brien headed home Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s corner.

However, the goal was disallowed after a lengthy VAR check, with referee Craig Pawson encouraged to take a look for himself on the sideline.

Pawson determined that Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish fouled Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from offside positions.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Everton fans booed loudly, but Toffees boss Moyes wasn’t too unhappy.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the full-time whistle, Moyes admitted his belief that Pawson got it right.

Moyes added that he would have been angry if such a goal had stood against Everton, so he had no complaints.

“Since I have seen it, I agree it was offside. If it had been the other way around, I would be claiming it was an offside goal, so I think they got it right,” said Moyes.

Everton almost got it right against Tottenham Hotspur

Everton enjoyed success from set pieces against Tottenham in 2024, and Moyes was looking to repeat the trick.

The idea was right enough; Dewsbury-Hall whipped in a fine inswinging delivery and O’Brien, one of Everton’s main aerial threats, created space to head the ball in.

Ndiaye was used to disrupt Vicario, a tactic which worked under Sean Dyche at Goodison Park last year.

The contact on Vicario surely wouldn’t have been enough for a foul if Ndiaye was onside.

Instead, Ndiaye and Grealish were both caught offside, and Everton paid the price.

Everton must continue to be dangerous from set pieces, though, and continuing to find O’Brien could bring rewards.

David Moyes must now make glaringly obvious change to his XI after Everton lose to Tottenham - everton.news
Description

Everton suffered a bruising 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

David Moyes will be really disappointed with his side as Everton gave away two really cheap goals from corner kicks.

The Toffees were unlucky not to get a goal through Jake O’ Brien, as he had one disallowed due to Iliman Ndiaye supposedly obstructing the goalkeeper.

Anyhow, there’s a lot to think about for Moyes, as his side looked bereft of ideas going forward at times, so it wasn’t just a poor defensive performance.

With that said, there is one very simple change to his starting line-up that he must make for the Sunderland game.

David Moyes has to bring Tyler Dibling into the XI

Ndiaye was the most threatening player on the pitch against Tottenham, and that’s despite the fact that he was playing out of position on the right.

To get even more out of him, Moyes should move Ndiaye into the middle and start Tyler Dibling on the right.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall just hasn’t done enough in that number 10 role recently, so perhaps he should drop deeper into the midfield.

Dewsbury-Hall said he’s better as an eight anyway, so these changes would probably bring the best out of all three of the aforementioned individuals.

Dibling, who arrived in a £40m deal in the summer, has only been afforded one Premier League start, so it’s time to give him the opportunity to bring something different now.

Tyler Dibling has been modelling his game on Arjen Robben

According to the Liverpool Echo, Dibling has been learning from Arjen Robben’s footage with Everton’s analysts behind the scenes at Finch Farm.

He’s also been studying tape from Franck Ribery, who is equally as good at finding a yard to cut in and shoot.

Moyes clearly wants more output from the teenager before putting him in the starting line-up, so hopefully his game has come on significantly over the last few months.

If Dibling isn’t quite there yet, perhaps Merlin Rohl could be considered in the number 10 role to offer something different to Dewsbury-Hall.

It’ll be fascinating to see if Moyes changes his line-up for the Sunderland game, with Everton having won just one of their last seven games.

How Everton fans greeted Richarlison as he arrived at Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time - everton.news
Description

Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison made his first trip to face Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.

Everton were back at home on Sunday afternoon after defeat at Manchester City last weekend.

Toffees fans are still settling into life at Hill Dickinson Stadium, and Sunday’s game saw an old favourite make his first visit.

Former Everton striker Richarlison made his first trip to Hill Dickinson Stadium, having previously been adored at Goodison Park.

How Everton fans responded to Richarlison’s arrival

Thomas Frank spoke about Richarlison before kick-off, believing that a game against Everton could be ideal for him.

The Brazilian forward started the season in strong form but the goals have dried up of late.

Richarlison spent four years with Everton after joining from Watford in 2018, and clearly remains popular with Toffees fans.

A video posted on social media by Ell Bretland showed Richarlison arriving at Hill Dickinson Stadium with his Spurs teammates.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Everton fans cheered and applauded Richarlison while singing the old chant from his time at Goodison Park.

‘He’s Brazilian, he only cost £50million, and we think he’s f——— brilliant, Richarlison,’ chanted some fans.

Richarlison shook hands and waved to some Toffees supporters before entering the stadium to prepare for the game.

Frank left Richarlison on the bench to start the game, instead preferring Randal Kolo Muani in the Tottenham attack.

Richarlison said an emotional goodbye to Goodison Park

Richarlison has always held Everton close to his heart, even after leaving for Tottenham in 2022.

Last season saw Richarlison say goodbye to Goodison Park as he played at Everton’s old home for the final time.

“I feel very fulfilled for all the 83 times I’ve stepped onto this pitch. Where I played the most and scored the most goals in my entire career. Today, for the last time. Thank you, Goodison Park!” said Richarlison.

Richarlison will have certainly valued his first visit to Everton’s new home, but made his return with a Tottenham win on his mind.

Everton suffered their first-ever defeat at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

David Moyes’ side were fancied to win by the supercomputer, however, Tottenham ran away 3-0 victors in the end.

Jake O’Brien had a goal controversially disallowed, with referee Craig Pawson deeming Iliman Ndiaye to be obstructing the goalkeeper.

Despite the defeat, one Everton player really rose in stock as Premier League fans were in awe of his performance.

Premier League fans blown away by Iliman Ndiaye vs Tottenham Hotspur

Iliman Ndiaye is quickly becoming one of the neutral’s most favourite players, and again, fans across the Premier League heaped praise on his performance against Tottenham today.

One even suggested he could win the Ballon d’Or one day if he had a more prolific striker.

“Ndiaye is 100 times the player Grealish is. By far the best Everton player,” @JacoCats posted.

@TacticallyMatt commented: “I think Ndiaye could win the Ballon d’Or if Beto could finish his chances.”

MORE EVERTON STORIES

@jb2forty added: “Many players have had good ball mastery but Iliman Ndiaye is THE master of ball.”

“Iliman Ndiaye you are phenomenal,” @TacticallyMatt said.

Iliman Ndiaye stats vs Tottenham Hotspur

Back in 2024. Ndiaye said he wants to become the best player in the world, and it’s clear he’s been building towards that goal.

Working with analysts and doing extra training has significantly improved him as a player, as he looks even better this term despite operating in his less favoured position on the right.

His Sofascore statistics against Tottenham amplify that he didn’t deserve to be on the losing team.

Perhaps when Tyler Dibling gets up to speed, Ndiaye will be utilised centrally, which is probably his strongest position.

Description

Everton had a goal controversially ruled out in their Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur, and Gary Neville has now had his say on the incident.

Micky van de Ven put Tottenham 1-0 to the good from a set-piece, and it seems as though Jake O’Brien responded with a headed goal himself just minutes later.

But, after being sent to the VAR screen, referee Craig Pawson decided to rule out the goal, deeming Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye to be in an offside position and obstructing the goalkeeper.

Speaking on the Sky Sports commentary, former Manchester United defender Gary Neville gave his verdict.

Gary Neville admits Jake O’Brien decision was 50/50

Neville admitted he was completely split on whether O’Brien’s goal should’ve stood for Everton and noticed that the VAR officials looked quite unsure at Stockley Park.

“I don’t think the VAR officials are sure themselves. It’s a 50/50 this one,” the 50-year-old said on commentary.

“From the VAR we were hearing, they’re having a right good look at it.There’s a little bit of contact and it’ll be overturned, I’m sure.”

After the goal was ruled out, Neville added: “It’s not gone down well. You could almost see the fear in the referee’s eyes!

“I don’t think he’s ever going to save it, but it’s a 50/50 one.”

Gary Neville said Jordan Pickford got ‘bullied’ for Tottenham second goal

Jordan Pickford has been earning lots of plaudits this season after his stellar performances for Everton and England.

As such, Pickford was rewarded with a new deal, which could keep him at the club until the day he retires.

However, he didn’t have his finest half against Tottenham, as Neville reckons he was completely ‘bullied’ for Spurs’ second goal from the corner.

“Pickford gets bullied. It’s wicked the delivery from Porro, it’s right on top of the goalkeeper. Pickford has to be stronger. Once he’s taken off balance, he has no chance.

“What a moment for Thomas Frank. His team haven’t been great these last 20 minutes but he’ll feel great going in at half-time.”

Description

Everton take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon as Richarlison faces off against the Toffees once more.

David Moyes’ side were beaten 2-0 at Manchester City last weekend and are looking to respond against Tottenham Hotspur.

Returning to Hill Dickinson Stadium should be a major boost, especially after beating Crystal Palace 2-1 last time out at home.

This meeting will see Richarlison play at Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time, as the striker returns to face Everton again.

Thomas Frank on Richarlison playing against Everton

Richarlison spent four years at Everton after joining from Watford back in 2018.

The Brazilian became a firm fan favourite at Goodison Park, scoring 53 goals in 152 appearances for the Toffees.

Tottenham snapped up Richarlison in 2022, but he has been unable to replace his Everton success in North London.

Now back to face Everton once more, the 28-year-old is looking to bag his fourth Premier League goal of the season.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has now told The Independent that he hopes playing against Everton will be the perfect motivation for Richarlison.

Frank praised Richarlison’s early-season form and believes that the striker is in a ‘good place’ ahead of facing Everton.

“Yeah, hopefully. I think Richarlison started the season very well and, touch wood, he’s in a good place,” said Frank.

“I can’t remember a spell this long where he hadn’t had anything, so big praise to the medical guys and the sport performance guys to put him in a very good place. Plus himself, working hard on that,” he added.

Everton should monitor Richarlison situation

Richarlison has been in and out of the Tottenham line-up and has struggled to live up to his price tag.

Reports suggest that Everton are interested in re-signing Richarlison amid questions over his Tottenham future.

A return to Merseyside would surely appeal to Richarlison, and Everton certainly need to explore another striking addition.

Beto frustrated Everton fans against City, while Thierno Barry has suffered a slow start.

Richarlison offers a more proven Premier League threat, and with just over 18 months left on his contract, Everton could offer him an emotional return.
