Description

Everton manager David Moyes has issued a statement ahead of the Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur at the Hill Dickinson Stadium this afternoon.

Everton welcome Thomas Frank’s inconsistent Tottenham side to the new 52,000-seater stadium later today.

Spurs are coming off the back of a dull goalless draw against Monaco in midweek, and that followed a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend.

The Toffees, meanwhile, will be keen to get back into the win column after Moyes’ side lost 2-0 to Manchester City.

Writing in his Tottenham programme notes, Moyes issued a rallying cry to Everton supporters.

David Moyes urges fans to give Everton ‘energy’ vs Tottenham Hotspur

Moyes made it very clear that he wants supporters at the Hill Dickinson Stadium to be right behind the team today.

“We need energy from the stands,” the Scotsman explained.

“We understand you will still be getting used to different seats and still finding your way around, but we now have more than 14,000 extra Evertonians in here.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

“We want you to be heard, we want you to be vocal and we want you to continue to make this start at our new home something we can keep talking about.

“We understand our role is to play well, to continue to make progress and build on a positive feeling around our club. Enjoy the game.”

David Moyes says Everton have now adjusted to Hill Dickinson Stadium

There were concerns about whether the Goodison Park atmosphere would translate to the new ground, but so far, those questions have been answered emphatically.

The Hill Dickinson has been able to harness a furious atmosphere, and when asked if it now feels like home, Moyes admitted he does feel very comfortable there.

“I think we’re all pretty comfortable,” the Scotsman said.

“We’ve won the games [played there] so it’s easier to speak well about it. Generally, I think it is something we have been hoping and waiting on at Everton so now we are there we are so glad we’ve got it.”

Description

David Moyes has just given an update on Jarrad Branthwaite’s condition ahead of Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been absent with a hamstring injury all season, but he was close to making a return this month.

However, Everton announced that Branthwaite suffered a setback in his recovery and was required to undergo surgery.

Ahead of the Tottenham game this afternoon, David Moyes gave a positive update on Branthwaite in his programme notes.

David Moyes hopeful Jarrad Branthwaite will be back soon

Moyes has revealed that Branthwaite’s operation was only a ‘small’ one and is hopeful he won’t be out for too long.

“Unfortunately the good news we received on Jordan and Tarky (contract extensions) was tempered by a setback for Jarrad Branthwaite,” the Scotsman wrote in the Everton programme.

“Jarrad’s injury had fully healed and he was back in full training, but he still felt a bit of discomfort. After seeing a specialist again it was decided the best thing to do was to have a small operation.

“We hope he won’t be out for too long because obviously he is a hugely important member of our team, and to be without him for such a long period was not what we expected.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

“We wish him well and hope for a speedy recovery.”

Jarrad Branthwaite certain he’ll come back stronger

Branthwaite released a statement after successfully undergoing surgery and admitted that he’s convinced he’ll be a better player when he returns.

“Operation completed successfully. Thanks to the medical team for their work and to everyone who’s reached out with messages of support,” the 23-year-old said on Instagram.

“It’s been the toughest spell of my career so far, but challenges build character. I’ll be back stronger and better than ever. Don’t doubt it.”

The England international will be keen to get back into Thomas Tuchel’s thinking ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the US.

There is certainly space for his profile, as Dan Burn is the only left-footed centre-back in Tuchel’s squads at the moment.

The Everton formation David Moyes needs to unleash vs Tottenham Hotspur

The Everton formation David Moyes needs to unleash vs Tottenham Hotspur - everton.news
Description

Everton manager David Moyes should seriously consider bringing back a different formation when his side welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.

Everton are up against a Tottenham side who have been quite inconsistent this term, although they’re sitting above the Toffees in sixth place.

Thomas Frank’s men were in Champions League action last night and played out a goalless draw away at Monaco.

So, Everton will be much fresher, and the Opta supercomputer does expect the Toffees to beat Spurs.

Although, David Moyes may want to consider changing his formation due to his concerning record against Frank.

David Moyes’ poor record vs Thomas Frank calls for change in formation

Moyes has come up against Frank eight times throughout his career, and interestingly, he’s lost five of those meetings.

The Scotsman managed to win two during his tenure as West Ham United manager, and in one of those games, he was forced to play a back-three formation.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Back in January 2023, Moyes’ side went away to Brentford and won 1-0 playing a 3-5-2 system, with Said Benrahma netting a 73rd-minute winner.

The 62-year-old will certainly have to consider implementing that same system this weekend, as clearly the 4-3-3 approach doesn’t match up well to Frank’s sides, usually.

The only question is, do Everton have the personnel to play it after Jarrad Branthwaite’s injury setback?

Everton’s potential starting XI vs Tottenham

If Everton were to line up with a three, it’d force Jake O’Brien to come back in as a centre-back, with James Garner playing the wing-back role.

James Tarkowski and Michael Keane make up the rest of the back three, and Vitali Mykolenko is deployed as the left wing-back.

Jack Grealish returns to the team after missing the game against Manchester City due to Premier League loan rules.

Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye could operate in a more central role just in behind Barry, who should get the nod after Beto’s unconvincing display at the Etihad.

Description

Everton take on Tottenham Hotspur at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday and there may already be some concerns ahead of the game.

David Moyes has seen his side pick up just one win since August in the Premier League after beating Crystal Palace at home.

However, it has not exactly been smooth sailing for Thomas Frank’s Spurs who have found themselves lacking any real consistency.

Tottenham were missing Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie again on Wednesday night against Monaco in the Champions League.

Everton are also suffering their own injury issues, with Jarrad Branthwaite sustaining another injury setback which will see him out for even more time.

Three points separate the two sides in the Premier League, but it is the fans of the Champions League outfit who are concerned ahead of Sunday’s clash.

Tottenham fans already worried about Everton duo

Everton fully backed Moyes in the transfer window to strengthen the quality and depth of his squad for this season.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

There have already been some standout performers in the opening eight games of the term, but two have stood out from the crowd.

After watching their side struggle against a depleted Monaco outfit, some Tottenham fans shared their concerns about Sunday’s game over social media.

With Archie Gray starting at left-back on Wednesday, one Spurs fan said: ‘Ndiaye licking his lips’. Another fan is already predicting an Everton win: ‘I feel a repeat of last season when we faced them.’

Clearly, there is not much optimism towards Tottenham’s full-backs as another fan said: ‘Grealish will be licking his lips.’ Whilst another also added: ‘Grealish will turn Porro upside down’.

Although Spurs are going into the game in sixth spot of the table, their fans are clearly uninspired with what they’ve seen.

One fan has been left far from optimistic ahead of Sunday, saying: ‘Got a very bad feeling about this.’ Whilst another is already sharing their concerns about the recently-appointed Frank, they said: ‘Scared for Frank.’

Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish will cause Tottenham issues

Eden Hazard has been so impressed with Grealish’s dribbling this season in an Everton shirt.

The 30-year-old has been leading the way in the Premier League with the most chances created and five goal contributions.

Between Gray and Pedro Porro, on Wednesday night, the two Spurs full-backs only made one tackle in the 90 minutes of Champions League action.

Monaco’s creative spark Maghnes Akliouche enjoyed a field day against Tottenham’s makeshift backline.

Iliman Ndiaye has been backed to play at the very top level after another impressive display at the weekend against Manchester City.

Both the Senegal international and Grealish have a big opportunity to really get at Tottenham’s defence this weekend.

Description

Ahead of Everton’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, David Moyes should seriously consider playing his wildcard and starting an untested player this season.

After Everton’s defeat to Manchester City on the weekend, supporters were making the same complaints about the number nine position.

The lack of an outlet up front is proving to be an issue, with Thierno Barry and Beto struggling to make the grade.

Indeed, Moyes is left with no other choice but to start one or the other this weekend, but he can make a change just behind, which could provide the Toffees with more of a focal point to play off.

David Moyes should start Merlin Rohl vs Tottenham Hotspur

Merlin Rohl arrived from Freiburg on a season-long loan with an option to buy worth £17m in the summer transfer window.

Rohl is yet to make his first Premier League start for Everton, although this weekend would be the perfect opportunity to do so.

The 6ft 3 midfielder can play a number of positions, but German football expert Ruairidh Petre reckons he’s best suited to the number 10 role.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Speaking exclusively to Everton News back in September, Petre said: “Most see Rohl as a natural central attacking midfielder, with his ability on the ball and comfort moving through defensive set-ups.”

If Moyes were to play Rohl just behind Barry or Beto, the German youth international would be able to use his physical attributes to bring others into play, taking a bit of pressure off the strikers to do that side of the game.

It’s the exact role Marouane Fellaini operated in under Moyes, so it’s certainly something the Scotsman should look at.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall would be pushed deeper

Rohl would replace Dewsbury-Hall as the attacking midfielder, which would force the former Chelsea star into a deeper role.

Although, Dewsbury-Hall admitted earlier this week that he feels his best position is as a number eight anyway.

“I can play all positions in midfield, but I’d say my strongest point is probably in box-to-box, number eight,” he told Everton’s website.

When Idrissa Gana Gueye departs for the Africa Cup of Nations in December, Dewsbury-Hall will probably be required to come further back into midfield, so why not get ahead of the curve and implement those changes now?

It’s a good option for Moyes to think about, and it’ll certainly become more viable if Beto and Barry falter again this weekend.

Beto has netted just one league goal this season and Barry is still yet to get off the mark.

Description

Everton return to the Hill Dickinson Stadium this weekend to face Tottenham Hotspur and James Tarkowski has admitted he’s already made a U-turn on the new ground.

Moving away from Goodison Park was always going to be a shock to the senses on Merseyside for the Blues.

However, The Friedkin Group have landed and are turning Everton into a much more sustainable football club through their work at the new stadium.

Everton have secured a huge stadium naming rights deal, which has dramatically improved the club’s PSR stance.

The Hill Dickinson Stadium has now seen four Premier League games played on home soil and no away team has taken maximum points yet.

A turbulent Spurs will be the next team to try on Sunday, but Tarkowski has now shared his early thoughts on the move into the club’s new home.

James Tarkowski makes Everton U-turn on Hill Dickinson Stadium

Former manager Sean Dyche was concerned for Everton leaving Goodison Park for the state-of-the-art new home on the docks.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

So far, the Blues have made a seamless transition into the new ground, with no away team able to win against Everton.

Speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast, Tarkowski has admitted he was a bit sceptical about leaving Goodison as well.

“And we’re probably a bit like yourself, probably a bit sceptical, like losing that edge of Goodison that we had, it was always a tough place to go,” he said.

“I didn’t like going there as an opposition player. We had some massive results there in the recent years.

“But so far, so good. And to say the atmosphere that I’ve been a part of so far has been amazing.”

Tarkowski was not alone as Danny Murphy also shared his Everton concerns ahead of the stadium move as the Blues left behind a big part of their history.

Amid the financial struggles of recent years, moving ground was huge for Everton and certainly played a role in the Blues being able to spend during the summer transfer window.

Everton’s record at the Hill Dickinson Stadium

The Toffees will be looking to keep their fine run at home going this weekend when Tottenham make the trip to Merseyside.

Tottenham look set to be without Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie as the pair miss their Champions League game following their absence at the weekend.

Having beaten a struggling Spurs last season, beating Thomas Frank’s outfit would mark a real statement on Everton’s record at the new ground.

Taking three points from the Lilywhites would arguably be Everton’s biggest result at the Hill Dickinson Stadium to date.

Having lost in the last outing against Manchester City, three points this Sunday would take Everton level on points with Spurs.

Everton take on Tottenham Hotspur this weekend and the Lilywhites are already suffering some major injury worries ahead of their trip to Merseyside.

Although results have not exactly been where David Moyes would have hoped, a win on Sunday would take the Blues level on points with Spurs.

There will be one big boost for Everton this week as Jack Grealish will return to the fold following his absence against his parent club on Saturday.

Of course, Everton were hit with the huge blow as Jarrad Branthwaite undergoes surgery on his injury setback this week.

It is the last thing which Everton fans would have wanted to hear to kick off the new week, but the Toffees have also seen this weekend’s opposition hit with their own issues.

On Tuesday morning, a significant injury update was shared out of Hotspur Way as Spurs prepare for their Champions League trip to Monaco.

Tottenham handed double injury blow ahead of Everton trip

Everton are currently without Nathan Patterson following his own issue picked up during the international break.

And it is in defence where Tottenham are also suffering, with two players expected to miss their midweek game against Monaco on Wednesday.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

During their open training session, neither Cristian Romero nor Destiny Udogie were spotted in action at Hotspur Way.

The pair returned from their respective international duties and neither featured in their loss to Aston Villa on Sunday.

Captain Romero was withdrawn from the starting XI during the warm-up and Udogie was not named in the squad.

Grealish will return for Everton against Spurs and the Englishman will be licking his lips at the prospect of facing an injury-stricken defence.

Whether either of the players can return in time for the game at the weekend remains to be seen, but it looks clear neither are fit enough to play in Europe on Wednesday.

Everton could exploit Tottenham weakness without Cristian Romero

Spurs also lost at the weekend in another home defeat against an Aston Villa side that has not exactly been firing this season.

After losing Romero during the warm-up, Frank admitted Udogie was also suffering with a minor issue.

“He came back from international duty with a minor irritation in the knee, so that just keeps him out for this game,” Frank said ahead of the game.

However, it is Romero who the Lilywhites will miss if he is to miss the game at the weekend on Merseyside.

Without Romero, Spurs have won just 24% of the last 25 Premier League games where the World Cup-winner has been absent.

There is a real opportunity for Everton to win back-to-back home games against Spurs this weekend.

Description

Opta’s supercomputer has made its prediction for Everton’s home clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

After Everton’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on the weekend, David Moyes will be keen to get back into the win column.

They’re up against a Tottenham side who most recently lost at home to struggling Aston Villa, so there is plenty of reason to be optimistic.

Plus, the Toffees are yet to taste defeat at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, having won three and drawn two across all competitions.

Here’s what the supercomputer reckons will happen.

Supercomputer predicts Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur

According to Opta’s supercomputer, Everton are actually the favourites to beat the reigning Europa League champions.

The software has given the Toffees a 41 per cent chance of winning, a draw 26.7 and a Tottenham win 32.2.

That’s despite Thomas Frank’s side currently sitting three points above them in the table in sixth place, interestingly.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Everton’s last five meetings vs Tottenham Hotspur

Everton actually won this fixture last season, with Moyes getting his first victory after replacing Sean Dyche.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Iliman Ndiaye and an Archie Gray own goal gave liftoff to Moyes’ second spell on Merseyside.

Aside from that, though, the recent meetings have favoured the North Londoners, with the Toffees only able to win one out of five.

Moyes will have Jack Grealish back, although Jarrad Branthwaite’s return from a hamstring injury is set to go on as he requires surgery this week.

Richarlison was a real fan favourite during his four years at Everton.

Everton signed Richarlison from Watford for around £50m in 2018, which turned out to be a really good piece of business.

The Brazilian scored 53 goals in 152 appearances for the Toffees, and many of those were really important goals.

Richarlison played a major role in retaining the club’s Premier League status in the 2021/22 season, netting 10 goals whilst laying on five assists in a struggling side.

The 28-year-old secured a £60m move to Tottenham Hotspur off the back of that, and now Jamie O’Hara has had his say on his career in North London.

Jamie O’Hara gives verdict on Richarlison’s time at Tottenham Hotspur

Richarlison has scored 23 goals in 101 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur since joining during the summer of 2022.

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Spurs playmaker Jamie O’Hara has admitted the former Toffees talisman just hasn’t been good enough.

“I think everyone believed that he was a good signing. He did a brilliant job at Everton. Kept them in the Premier League. He was a one-man band, but he’s not produced.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

“Injuries haven’t helped. But when he’s been fit, look, he started the season okay this season, he’s done alright, and I think he’s probably starting.

“I would have to say for what we spent for 60 million pound, it’s a massive miss. It’s a shame because he’s got some talent.”

David Moyes was reportedly interested in signing Richarlison

It was reported in the summer that David Moyes was exploring a deal to sign Richarlison and bring him back to Merseyside.

But, for whatever reason, that transfer failed to materialise, although he’s again being linked with a return to Everton ahead of the January transfer window.

Moyes wants to sign another striker, and Richarlison’s name is already being mooted as it usually is around transfer windows.

His wage demands, paired with the fee Spurs would want, may be a big stumbling block in any forthcoming negotiations.

Description

Everton have a number of players attracting interest from clubs in the Premier League and abroad.

Iliman Ndiaye was subjected to a late Inter Milan bid in the summer, but Everton swiftly turned down that approach.

The Serie A giants tabled a bid in the region of £40m for Ndiaye, so clearly his stock has significantly risen over the last 12 months, or so.

Another Toffees star was sought after in the window, and now the speculation around his future is continuing even into the autumn.

Tottenham Hotspur have now joined the race in a bid to land his signature.

Tottenham Hotspur eyeing move for Jarrad Branthwaite

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is being eyed by Manchester United and Merseyside rivals Liverpool ahead of the January window.

Branthwaite, who is currently sidelined through injury, was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer and in previous windows.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Now, according to journalist Mark Brus, Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank is keeping a close eye on the 23-year-old.

It’s claimed Branthwaite wants to play Champions League football at some stage of his career, and Spurs can offer that.

However, he isn’t pushing for a move by any means and recently signed a new contract with the Merseysiders, running through until 2030.

The Friedkin Group not expected to sell Jarrad Branthwaite

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Friedkin Group would not sell Branthwaite in 2026, so these fresh Spurs links will mean very little in the eyes of the American investors.

The Everton owners are extremely ambitious and are keen to return the club to Europe after a long absence from the competitions.

According to the CIES Football Observatory, Branthwaite is the club’s most valuable asset, worth around £52m.

That value will only rise as he matures into one of the best centre-backs in the world and a fully-fledged England international.
