Igor Tudor kicked five players out of training as Tottenham concerns grow - Daily Express
Description

Tottenham Hotspur manager Igor Tudor encountered turmoil and squad discord at previous club Marseille that resulted in five players being expelled from training. Spurs' campaign reached a striking new nadir on Thursday evening when they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at home, leaving them hovering perilously close to the relegation zone. Tudor has been unable to ease any of the mounting tension in north London after Spurs severed ties with Thomas Frank in February following a sequence of disappointing results.

The Croatian has been defeated in all three of his fixtures at the helm thus far and his nightmarish stint somewhat mirrors the ill-fated period he experienced in France between 2022 and 2023. Despite guiding Marseille to third place in Ligue 1, Tudor, 47, departed the club 12 months after joining them, citing "tiredness." His tenure at the Velodrome was characterised by friction and internal strife. It was perhaps inevitable it would conclude in disaster. The Marseille squad were believed to hold affection for previous manager Jorge Sampaoli, who departed having disagreed with the club's transfer policy.

Upon his arrival in France, there were clear signs that the squad were instantly dissatisfied with Tudor's appointment, with noticeable unease reportedly brewing between the coach and his players during a gruelling pre-season.

What ensued was nothing short of complete bedlam. Brazilian midfielder Gerson was believed to have engaged in a fiery confrontation with Tudor and was excluded from training.

French full-back Jordan Amavi was subsequently excluded from the first team squad altogether following a disagreement with Tudor on the same day. Turkish winger Cengiz Under also had differences with his head coach, though he wasn't thought to have been dismissed from the sessions.

Former Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares was similarly ejected from a training session. Senegal striker Bamba Dieng was reportedly removed as well, though the circumstances behind that remain uncertain.

Another ex-Gunner, Matteo Guendouzi, had a confrontation with Tudor and likewise experienced his manager's fury. Guendouzi purportedly had a "lively altercation" with his boss during the team's 2-0 pre-season loss to AC Milan.

This led to the Frenchman leaving the pitch for a shower, gathering his kit and failing to emerge for the second half. Addressing his approach to discipline, Tudor said: "In my football, there is a feature, you have to run. And if you don't... If I see one player that doesn't run in training, I'll say it once, twice and then on the third time of asking, I'll intervene."

Discussing a player, who was subsequently revealed to be Tavares, Tudor stated the international was not making "necessary efforts" as the justification for sidelining the current Lazio star.

Tudor's turbulent spell also took a bizarre twist after former Italian international, Mauro Camoranesi, lasted merely a week as assistant coach, despite Tudor presenting him to his players as his "right arm."

Following Tudor's departure for Lazio, where his tenure lasted just three months, Marseille president Pablo Longoria told Calciomercato: "I wouldn't wish what Igor suffered on my worst enemy.

"He found himself at a club where everyone was against him, from the inside and outside. Many people organised themselves to increase the tension against him. People were asking for Jorge Sampaoli to return, whilst others wanted to give power to the players.

"There were requests to fan groups to oust the coach. When I returned to Marseille, I felt that pre-season was like the 37th matchday of the championship, you had to play your life. It's not normal."

After the Palace defeat, Tudor's remarks indicated he is prepared to take action against those Spurs players who fail to swiftly embrace his approach, echoing his rigid discipline in France. "I will tell you now, maybe it will sound strange, but I believe more after this game than I believed before," said Tudor.

"I saw something. I need to choose the right guys because the boat is going in the direction that I want to go, and needs to go, and who is in the boat can stay. Otherwise they can leave the boat."

Matters don't become any simpler for Spurs next week. They travel first to Atletico Madrid for the opening leg of their Champions League last-16 clash, before heading to Liverpool in the league.

Tottenham job conditions for Roberto De Zerbi whose feelings are clear

Tottenham 'job conditions' for Roberto De Zerbi and he's already made feelings clear - Daily Express
Description

Roberto De Zerbi remains linked with the manager's job at Tottenham Hotspur, with his previous remarks suggesting such an appointment might be feasible. Spurs are currently in a relegation battle in the Premier League, though they do have a Champions League last-16 fixture against Atletico Madrid approaching.

Igor Tudor was brought in by Tottenham as caretaker manager for the remainder of the campaign, but has suffered defeat in all three Premier League matches since taking charge in north London. This run of results leaves Spurs sitting in 16th position in the top-flight table and merely one point clear of the relegation zone.

Consequently, there has been speculation regarding Tudor's future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, despite the club only confirming his arrival last month.

De Zerbi's name emerged in The Telegraph's report, which suggested that Tudor's position at Tottenham is uncertain, with the ex-Brighton manager identified as a possible replacement.

The 46-year-old has remained without a club since departing Marseille earlier this year, and was strongly linked with the Tottenham job prior to Tudor's appointment.

The report indicates that De Zerbi is being considered for the Tottenham managerial role from the summer onwards, but only if the club retain their Premier League status and escape relegation.

Following De Zerbi's departure from Brighton nearly two years ago, he expressed his thoughts about a potential Premier League return, with Manchester United previously amongst those reportedly considering an appointment.

"There isn't any club – no one offered [anything]. At the moment, nothing," De Zerbi told Match of the Day at the end of the 2023/24 season.

"I hope to work in the Premier League again. I don't know where or when. But it was an honour to work in the Premier League."

This wasn't the sole occasion De Zerbi has discussed his future and speculation linking him with Tottenham, having previously addressed such rumours whilst at Brighton.

"I have a long contract and I am happy to work here [Brighton],” De Zerbi said during his time on the south coast. "I'm enjoying working with these players, and I'm pleased with their performance. I cannot ask for more from them.

“We have a dream, and we know very well [that can] write a new history for the club. For us, that is very important and a very nice challenge."

Tottenham next manager decided as Spurs urged to sack Igor Tudor immediately

Tottenham next manager decided as Spurs urged to sack Igor Tudor immediately - Daily Express
Description

Igor Tudor is under intense pressure at Tottenham following a disastrous start to life in north London. The Croatian was appointed as Thomas Frank's interim replacement last month, until the end of the season. But, after losing his first three matches in charge, speculation has increased on Tudor's position as Spurs' Premier League relegation woes deepen. Indeed, a 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Thursday left Tottenham down in 16th, one point above 18th-place West Ham and Nottingham Forest in 17th.

There is now real concern that Spurs could be relegated and drop down into the second tier for the first time since the 1977/78 season. It would mark a disaster for Tudor and Tottenham, who still remain in the Champions League and face Atletico Madrid in a last 16 first-leg tie next week. After that, Spurs make a daunting trip to Liverpool, but there is a possibility that Tudor might not even be in the hot seat for that game, as some have called for him to be sacked already.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

With that in mind, our Express Sport writers have delivered their opinion on Tudor's future and who Tottenham could appoint as their next manager, should the club opt to make a change...

Connor O'Neill

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

Firstly, I can’t believe I am saying this, but the Tottenham Hotspur hierarchy have been left with little choice but to sack Igor Tudor.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

That feels like a mad thing to say given Tudor has literally only been in charge for three games. But at the end of the day, he was brought in to make an immediate impact, and he hasn’t. If anything, Spurs have got worse under his watch.

He is clearly out of his depth. Prior to getting the job, he had no experience of managing in the Premier League, and that is showing already.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

When you are in a battle to avoid the drop, it is about experience and knowing how to get results; under Tudor, Spurs currently look destined for the Sky Bet Championship.

It says everything that Spurs’ current only hope of staying up is West Ham and Nottingham Forest not picking up enough points between now and the end of the season.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

Don’t get me wrong, Spurs’ players have a lot to answer for, and they shouldn’t be let off the hook too easily, and all the blame can’t be on Tudor.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

But the harsh reality for the Italian is that if Tottenham want to be certain they will be playing in the Premier League next season, then they need to sack Tudor today.

Kieran King

I think Tottenham need to sack Igor Tudor TODAY. Yes, the Croatian has only been in for three matches, but I can’t see Spurs staying in the Premier League with him as manager. There has been zero improvement since he replaced Thomas Frank and I think West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are better equipped than Spurs for a relegation fight, both from a playing standpoint and in the coaching department.

And because Tottenham cannot sign or sell players now until the summer, the only way I can see Spurs improving is by sacking the manager. It would mean that the club have to axe Tudor, despite only appointing him less than a month ago.

For me, I would go and get former Everton and Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche as a short-term fix until the end of the season. While I don’t think Tottenham fans would get on board with his style of football, I don’t think they would care as long as he keeps them in the Premier League - and I believe he would do that.

Kieran Horn

I honestly don’t think it overly matters whether Tudor stays or goes; this team is going to go down because they’re simply not good enough and don’t have the bottle for a relegation battle.

Supposed senior players are showing themselves as cowards and it seems like most have already checked out ahead of likely summer transfers.

Spurs may as well just start playing the kids and players like Souza, Richarlison and Mathys Tel, who have actually shown over the last few weeks some intent to get the club out of this perilous position.

While most of it is on the playing squad, Tudor has certainly not helped himself with some baffling team selection decisions and his reluctance to accept relegation is a possibility.

He was brought in to make an immediate impact and he has done the complete opposite. It is no use going for a head coach that does not understand either the club or what it is like to be in a battle to avoid the drop.

I wouldn’t go near any of those so-called ‘relegation experts’ which leaves the club with minimal options should Tudor be sacked.

The only one I can think of is Ryan Mason. Back in for another interim spell because at this point it feels like Spurs haven’t really got a choice.

Scott Trotter

Igor Tudor is the third manager that Tottenham have looked like a relegation candidate under. Spurs may not have been close to going down under Ange Postecoglou, but they did finish 17th, so any surprise at this season’s struggles has to be tempered by that result.

Tottenham’s start to this season under Thomas Frank is certainly starting to look like an anomaly and current form is looking like a truer reflection. Something is going wrong with a group of players who perhaps believe they are better than they are, and the rumoured lack of discipline is coming home to roost.

Igor Tudor? There’s been little good to make of him. A new manager? With the people making the choice and the lack of inspiration this current squad appears to have, is there any point?

Charlie Malam

Yes, he should be sacked. He might have only been in the job 20 days and it's awfully brutal, but Tottenham have managed to regress even further under Tudor and he should go. Look at the half-time reaction against Crystal Palace. The full-time reaction might have been even worse - there was hardly anyone left.

If Spurs want to stay up, they need a united front. Their fans first need something to believe in, and Tudor isn't giving them that. Who should they get to replace Tudor? The options are limited. Most coaches will steer clear.

Perhaps Ryan Mason, because of his affiliation with the club and the need to improve his reputation after his West Brom failure, steps back into the breach. If he can scrape three wins from nine, Spurs should stay up.

Igor Tudor reacts to Spurs fans walking out of stadium in their thousands

Igor Tudor reacts to Tottenham fans walking out in thousands as crowd turns on boss - Daily Express
Description

Igor Tudor says he has "more belief" that Tottenham will avoid relegation even after supporters turned against their own team. Spurs were embarrassed by Crystal Palace following stand-in captain Micky van de Ven's red card, leaving them just one point above the drop zone.

Thousands of supporters departed at half-time and stewards were forced to restrain others as they hurled abuse at the club hierarchy at the directors' box and club analysts positioned in the stands. The loss to Palace marks a record 11 Premier League matches without a victory, and interim manager Tudor has lost all three fixtures since taking charge, with Spurs shipping nine goals during his short tenure.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

Tudor said: "It sounds strange but I believe more after this game than before. I saw something, I need to choose the right guys. Who is in the boat can stay the others can leave the boat. When the others come back I am sure we have a good team.

"I want to be positive because I cannot tell them nothing after this. They gave everything. With all the problems we have missing defenders, missing full backs, don't want to speak about that but we need to stay together. It's about believing and growing. Still nine games to play."

And Tudor also said he understood the supporters who left early and those who turned on the players with boos and furious shouts. "Understand the fans, it's normal to happen in football. They're disappointed, they wanted more. We're away. This is the moment one red card changed everything," said Tudor.

It has been a catastrophic start for Tudor, who declined to say whether he expects to stay in his job. He added: "No comment on that question. I don't think in that direction. I have my job to do and that's all."

Four managers Tottenham can appoint if Igor Tudor is sacked after Palace loss

Four managers Tottenham can appoint if Igor Tudor sacked after Crystal Palace disaster - Daily Express
Description

Tottenham are in a full-blown crisis after suffering a fifth straight Premier League defeat, extending their winless run to 11 league matches, against Crystal Palace. Not since 1975 have suffered such a long run without three points. Dominic Solanke put Spurs 1-0 up in the 34th minute but by the half-time whistle, the hosts were down to 10 men and trailing 3-1. Micky van de Ven was sent off for pulling the shirt of Ismaila Sarr, who scored the resulting penalty. Jorgen Strand Larsen and Sarr, with his second goal, punished Spurs before the break to kill the game.

The north Londoners produced a spirited effort in the second half after a half-time rollicking from Igor Tudor but still failed to score again. They now sit just one point above the relegation zone with nine games to go. And interim boss Tudor, who has only managed three matches in charge so far, is in real danger of being sacked, like his predecessor Thomas Frank, before the campaign is out. After heavy boos at half-time, the stadium was near empty at full-time against Palace, which felt like an early death knell for Tudor. Express Sport pick out four managers who could come in immediately if Spurs do wield the axe on another head coach...

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

Ange Postecoglou

Out of a job since being sacked by Nottingham Forest in October after only 40 days in charge, one available option for Spurs is to turn to a former manager of theirs - Ange Postecoglou. The Greek was controversially given the boot by Spurs last June, two weeks after winning the Europa League and promising an exciting third season in charge.

His style of play, though it was high-risk, could help Spurs get an all-important two or three victories between now and May 24. But Postecoglou has suggested he wouldn't return to Celtic, where things ended far more positively than in north London, nevermind Spurs. So there is no telling he would answer the club's call in their time of need. And even if he did arrive, his chaotic approach could be a hindrance rather than a help.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

Ryan Mason

Perhaps the likeliest option, ex-Spurs midfielder Mason was dismissed from his first senior job by West Brom in January. He lasted a mere seven months in charge and departed with the Baggies hovering above the Championship relegation zone. But he has been Spurs' caretaker head coach twice previously, and has the affiliation with the club. In his first spell, in 2021, he won four and lost three of seven games.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

In his second stint in 2023, he won two, drew two and lost three. That gave him a 33 per cent win percentage, the exact same record he left West Brom with. If he won 33 per cent of Spurs' final nine games, they add a minimum of nine points to their current total of 29. That could be enough to save them.

Sean Dyche

Postecoglou's Forest successor Sean Dyche was also dismissed last month despite a 40 per cent win ratio and some decent results while at the City Ground. Dyche ultimately lost the support of the club's fans due to his dogged style of play, but as a short-term fix, Spurs fans would put up with dull games of football, so long as they win a few to stay up.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

Dyche would be a 'break glass in case of emergency' type appointment but the Englishman would feel he has something to prove given how it ended in Nottingham. Especially given Spurs face relegation rivals Forest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on March 22.

Marco Rose

Another unemployed coach, Marco Rose would actually be a bit of a coup in Spurs' current situation. He was sacked by RB Leipzig a year ago for underperformance but throughout his managerial career has had some real success, especially at Red Bull Salzburg while he took Borussia Monchengladbach to the Champions League and won the DFB Pokal at Leipzig.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

Whether German Rose, who also managed Borussia Dortmund previously, could effectively employ his aggressive pressing style in such a short space of time is uncertain. But he was on Spurs' shortlist before they appointed Tudor so is clearly a manager whom they appreciate.

Tottenham decision confirmed after 'dropped' claims as Igor Tudor makes decision

Tottenham star 'dropped by Igor Tudor vs Crystal Palace' after Premier League controversy - Daily Express
Description

Tottenham manager Igor Tudor has decided not to drop Guglielmo Vicario for Spurs' clash with Crystal Palace as he seeks his maiden Premier League victory. The Croatian was reported to be turning toward back-up Antonin Kinsky.

Vicario has faced mounting criticism as the Lilywhites find themselves embroiled in a Premier League relegation scrap, with one blunder from a free kick even being singled out by a Premier League social media account. It has subsequently been removed following a complaint from Spurs.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

Meanwhile, Kinsky has not featured in a competitive fixture since October. He was reportedly set to be charged with protecting the goal for a Tottenham outfit desperate for victory after West Ham and Nottingham Forest narrowed the gap to them to just a single point, according to The Sun.

Vicario has featured in every Premier League minute this campaign but has shipped two or more goals in each of his previous eight matches in the division. Kinsky made six top-flight appearances last term.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

The 22-year-old has turned out twice in 2025/26 against Doncaster and Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

Tudor's call would have removed Vicario from the spotlight after criticism of him reached its peak with the Premier League's ridicule. The Italian has committed errors with both hands and feet this season before his wayward free kick came under fire.

Spurs believed such mockery or 'banter' ought not to have originated from an official league account. Tudor condemned the division's original decision during his press conference.

"I'm sure they are aware of the mistake they made and they will not do in the future," stated the Tottenham boss. "Not nice, not nice. Vicario is a fantastic guy, a fantastic player. I spoke with him. He's OK. It's part of the job, with the social media.

"For sure it is not good, but we are living in an era of information. Every day, hundreds of new information bombarding these players.

Amad drops worrying 13-word Man Utd transfer statement

Amad drops worrying 13-word Man Utd transfer statement after Michael Carrick decision - Daily Express
Description

Amad has taken to social media in what could be interpreted as a signal regarding his Manchester United future, following the weekend's Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace. Having featured from the start in every league match under interim boss Michael Carrick thus far, Amad found himself relegated to the substitutes' bench for Sunday's encounter.

Forward Benjamin Sesko took his place in the starting line-up. The Slovenian netted what proved to be the decisive goal for the second consecutive match as United emerged 2-1 victors. Amad has since shared an image of himself celebrating in a United kit on his Snapchat profile, accompanied by text which reads: "What is meant to grow does not stay in the same place forever."

The message could suggest he is contemplating his future, although not necessarily in the short term. Alternatively, it might relate to personal growth and act as inspiration to reclaim his starting berth.

Nevertheless, the timing of the post, which arrived immediately after his demotion to the bench, may spark concerns about his current mindset within the squad.

Amad has been a consistent starter for United throughout this campaign. Across his 23 outings in all competitions, he has found the net twice whilst contributing three further assists.

His most recent goal contribution came when he scored in the 4-4 draw with Bournemouth in December. That fixture preceded his departure to represent the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations, resulting in his absence from five Premier League fixtures.

Carrick's choice to bring on Sesko in place of Amad during the Palace match followed suggestions from pundits, including United icon Gary Neville. "I think now on Sunday Michael Carrick starts him (Sesko)," he said on Sky Sports following United's victory over Everton.

"Just feeling how Michael would look at that, I think it would kill the lad if he didn't start. I think what you'll see on Sunday is Cunha to the left, Mbeumo to the right, Sesko up top and Bruno in behind. I think Amad will just slip out for a game, he has been really good but I think Sesko starts."

Amad will be eager to make his mark, whether from the first whistle or as a substitute, when United resume their campaign on Wednesday evening.

Carrick's squad head to St James' Park to face Newcastle (8.15pm kick-off). A brief respite from fixtures follows due to the FA Cup fifth round before they welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, March 15 (2pm).

Tottenham avoid relegation nightmare as contract details emerge

Tottenham avoid nightmare relegation catastrophe as clever contract details emerge - Daily Express
Description

Tottenham have safeguarded themselves financially in the event of relegation, with clauses included in contracts that would trigger a reduction in salaries. As reported by The Athletic, former chairman Daniel Levy incorporated a provision into most players' contracts that would result in their wages being halved should Spurs find themselves in the Championship next season.

The report indicated that this was an agreement reached in most contracts by Levy prior to his exit, providing some financial relief should Spurs face the unfortunate fate of relegation. Sunday's loss to Fulham means that Spurs are yet to secure a Premier League victory in 2025 and are deeply embroiled in the battle against relegation alongside West Ham and Nottingham Forest.

Tudor offered a damning assessment following Spurs' most recent loss but declined to discuss the prospect of relegation in his post-match media briefing. He said: "Not enough, not enough. They were better, they deserved to win, nothing is smart to tell you in this moment.

"We need to forget this game and focus on training tomorrow. Difficult moment, difficult situation, but only way is to come tomorrow on the training and try to do better, better things. I don't want to speak about relegation, but all the time I comment this and I always give the same answer, so I will not respond to the answer. My answer is always the same."

Regrettably, it is a subject that can no longer be sidestepped with one of Spurs, Forest or West Ham almost certain to accompany Burnley and Wolves in the relegation zone. Liverpool have £57m reason to hope Tottenham get relegated after Fulham loss

Liverpool have £57m reason to hope Tottenham get relegated after Fulham loss - Daily Express
Description

Liverpool might privately be hoping Tottenham are relegated from the Premier League this season. Spurs' fourth successive defeat, a 2-1 reverse away at Fulham, leaves them four points above the relegation zone with 10 games to play - including a trip to Anfield on March 15. They remain winless in the league in 2026 and have lost six of their 10 matches this year.

If Spurs are demoted to the Championship, there is sure to be serious upheaval at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Already, they are looking for a new long-term manager. Igor Tudor was installed only as a temporary boss and has since been heavily critical of the squad and the club. On top of the playing staff, the squad will be heavily restructured too - with many international players unlikely to want to play in the Championship.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

Among those who could leave is Liverpool-linked centre-back Micky van de Ven. Despite Spurs' disastrous season, Van de Ven's personal stock remains high. The Netherlands international has scored seven goals this term and captained the team during Cristian Romero's recent suspension.

Van de Ven is said to be on Liverpool's shortlist as they seek to strengthen their defence. Ibrahima Konate is out of contract at the end of the season, while Virgil van Dijk is 35 this July and his deal expires in 18 months. Giovanni Leoni will not be fit until the summer after an ACL tear and Joe Gomez has also been dogged by injuries again. Jeremy Jacquet is joining from Rennes but the 20-year-old also recently suffered a season-ending problem.

Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT

That should make signing one more centre-back a priority for the Reds this summer. Turning 25 next month and with an extraordinary physical profile, as one of the fastest defenders in Europe and an excellent ball-player, Van Dijk's international team-mate Van de Ven ticks plenty of boxes for the Merseyside club.

He now has 84 appearances for Spurs and 179 at club level in his career. Liverpool became known under Jurgen Klopp for signing talented players in their early-to-mid-20s, with a solid bank of senior appearances under their belt (ideally 150-200), and crucially the potential to go to new heights in a better team.

Van de Ven fits that mould. And prising him away from Tottenham would become a lot easier and cheaper if Tudor's team were relegated. Transfrmarkt estimates the Dutchman's value at £57million. If Spurs remain a top-flight team, Liverpool would do well to get him out of north London for less than £70m. Spurs paid Wolfsburg an initial £34.5m, rising to £43m, for him in 2023.

If Spurs were bumped into the second tier, clearly Van de Ven is far too good to play in the Championship. And Liverpool might feel they can bring their big six rivals down to £50m or less, given the player would presumably be keen on the move.

Liverpool signing the defender is not entirely reliant on Spurs' relegation but a move may ultimately hinge on Konate's future. Should the Frenchman leave Anfield as a free agent, they will need a suitably experienced replacement if they are to challenge for the Premier League title again next year. Van de Ven could be that replacement.

But if Konate opts to sign a new deal, Liverpool may decide that, with Van Dijk, Konate, Jacquet, Leoni and Gomez (if he stays), they have enough options in the position. The Reds will keep a keen eye on Spurs in the meantime, knowing they can contribute to their potential relegation at Anfield this month.

Premier League blasted for mocking Tottenham star with sarcastic post after Fulham defeat - Daily Express
Description

The Premier League have faced backlash from supporters after sharing a video that openly ridicules Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. Spurs' woeful run persisted with a 2-1 loss to Fulham on Sunday - and their followers were far from pleased to witness the league's official account delivering further blows. Igor Tudor's team found themselves trailing 2-0 within 34 minutes at Craven Cottage thanks to strikes from Harry Wilson and Alex Iwobi. They clawed one back via Richarlison's second-half header but were unable to secure a leveller.

Their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat means they have now gone 10 league matches without victory and sit only four points clear of the drop zone. Tudor was incensed that a shove by Raul Jimenez on Radu Dragusin in the build-up to Wilson's opening goal went unpunished by the match officials - and supporters' frustrations intensified when they logged onto social media on Sunday evening.

The official Premier League account, which boasts 44.9m followers on X, uploaded a 13-second segment from the match, displaying Vicario launching a long free-kick directly out for a Fulham goal kick.

The accompanying text stated: "Just how the play was drawn up..." It then added: "An interesting free-kick from Vicario" with a grinning emoji, followed by "Whoops" with another grinning emoji. Posted at 10.55pm on Sunday, the clip had amassed nearly 400,000 views by Monday morning.

Whilst some relished the chance to revel in the unfortunate moment, others were far from impressed. One reply read: "I'm not even a Spurs fan but this just seems ...mean? Like an opposing team account taking the p*** I can 100 per cent understand and appreciate but the official PL account? Yikes."

"Official PL account... good job lads," another replied. "Being made fun of by official PL account is wild," a second wrote. "Aren't you supposed to be neutral and unbiased?" a third asked.

Another concluded: "I don't think its proper for the premier league to try to be a banter account. It should be above that."

Numerous others were quick to highlight that the Premier League has no shortage of its own blunders to answer for, with many incensed over the failure to disallow Wilson's goal.

Tudor was seething during his post-match press conference. "Of course it's a foul, I think - 99 out of 100 people will say it's a foul, I believe, because it's so obvious, you know," he said, before drawing comparisons with the decision to disallow Spurs' goal against Arsenal the previous weekend for Randal Kolo Muani's push on Gabriel.

"Sometimes the criteria don't have consistency, last week what happened in our game against Arsenal, same thing, also one situation before, we conceded a goal, they didn't get a foul after they give, so, incredible.

"Sometimes they don't understand it's enough, even small contact, you know, if it gives you advantage to score the goal, you need to cancel this, finish it. It's not about normal duel when he's soft, no, when he pushes with the hands and don't watch the ball, no. Sometimes it's just easy to get advantage.

"So, this is ridiculous to not give the foul, because the consequence is too big. It's not a small foul in the middle of the pitch, it's a goal after."
