Tottenham have made a dream start to life under Thomas Frank, but the Dane isn’t resting on his laurels in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Manchester City saw them take maximum points from their opening two matches and lay down a marker on their ambitions.

After a disappointing 17th-place finish in 2024/25, supporters are hopeful that the arrival of Frank will deliver them a European finish at the very least this term.

However, despite making a brilliant start in the Premier League with some favourable fixtures on the horizon, Tottenham are planning more moves in the transfer window.

Tottenham submit £43m bid for Nico Paz

Following the injury to James Maddison, Spurs have been on the hunt for a new attacking midfielder, something that has caused them heartache thus far.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham were closing in on Eberechi Eze before he secured his dream move to Arsenal, while West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta has emerged on Spurs’ radar.

Frank is mainly scouring the Premier League for a new number 10, although interest in Como youngster Nico Paz suggests they’re willing to look abroad.

It was revealed on Sunday morning that Tottenham have made an approach for Paz, and now, Sky Sports Italia has reported that a £43million bid has been submitted for the 20-year-old.

Sadly, Como have already indicated that they want €70m (£60m) for the Argentine, with Tottenham currently far away from that valuation.

What Lionel Messi has said about Nico Paz

Paz is a playmaker capable of unlocking opponents using his low centre of gravity and creative talents, something Spurs could use in the final third.

Lionel Messi is also a huge fan of Paz, which demonstrates what an incredible player he is, with the 39-year-old praising saying: “Nico Paz has an incredible mindset, and that’s why he’s where he is,” he stated.

“Nico has a lot of quality and understands the game perfectly.”

If Tottenham are willing to meet Como’s valuation of the Argentine metronome, he could offer them a quality creative spark in attack.

What Tottenham are ‘willing to pay’ for Savinho as Man City set astronomical asking price

Tottenham are reportedly keen on signing Manchester City attacker Savinho ahead of the transfer deadline.

Spurs wanted to sign Eberechi Eze, but he ended up moving to rivals Arsenal, with the deal being made official on Saturday.

Tottenham even failed to sign Morgan Gibbs-White and he ended up signing a new contract at Nottingham Forest.

Manchester City want £69m for Savinho

Thomas Frank is keen on Savinho as he’s looking for more firepower in the final third for the 2025/26 season.

Despite signing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham and making Mathys Tel’s loan permanent, Spurs remain in the hunt for more attackers.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Son Heung-min’s exit and James Maddison’s injury leave them with two options short and if the Lilywhites are serious about finishing in the Champions League places, they still need to strengthen.

Give Me Sport journalist Ben Jacobs reported on 24 August that they are willing to offer £60.5million to Manchester City for the Brazil international.

However, if City are to part ways with the 21-year-old, they want a fee in the region of £69million.

Tottenham must agree personal terms with Savinho

Tottenham should prioritise agreeing personal terms with Savinho and securing his transfer from Manchester City to bolster their attacking options.

The Brazilian winger offers dynamism, pace, and creativity, perfectly suiting Frank’s high-pressing, fluid system.

Savinho’s ability to play on either flank, combined with his progressive passing and ability to take players on, makes him an ideal fit.

His desire to join Tottenham, where he could secure a more prominent role, enhances the deal’s appeal.

A £69million deal reflects Spurs’ ambition and signing Savinho could transform their attack, ensuring competitiveness in the Premier League and Champions League.

Alan Shearer hails ‘fantastic’ Tottenham signing after what he saw on Match of the Day

Description

Alan Shearer has heaped praise on Tottenham after their impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday.

The Lilywhites continued their perfect start to the Premier League season with a commanding display at the Etihad Stadium, as they continued their recent strong record against the Manchester outfit.

Spurs’ side turned in strong performances for Thomas Frank all over the pitch, in what was a hugely encouraging afternoon for everyone connected to the club.

The N17 outfit looked like an organised and effective unit as a collective, but Shearer chose to single out one man in particular for a key piece of praise.

Alan Shearer praises Joao Palhinha ‘masterclass’

Joao Palhinha’s arrival at Tottenham has sparked plenty of excitement over the summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Lilywhites took advantage of the midfielder’s lack of gametime at Bayern Munich and were able to swoop in and secure a loan deal for a player who was sold for over £40million just one year ago.

The Portuguese has already shown that he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League, after an impressive stint with Fulham prior to his switch to Germany.

Tottenham are yet to concede a goal so far in the league this season, and the 30-year-old has been integral to their efforts both with and without the ball in the middle of the park.

He has understandably been praised by Shearer after what was arguably his best display so far in a Spurs shirt.

Speaking on Match of the Day on 23 August, the Premier League’s record goalscorer was quick to emphasise the strength of the 30-year-old’s display.

“It was a midfield masterclass from those three, (Pape) Sarr, (Rodrigo) Bentancur and Palhinha,” Shearer said.

“They pressed, they were aggressive, and if they didn’t win the first tackle, they won the second tackle. That was a constant all afternoon from those three.

“Palhinha could be a fantastic signing for Tottenham.”

Joao Palhinha was everywhere for Tottenham vs Man City

Frank will be hugely pleased with Spurs’ performance across the board against City, but Palhinha’s impact on the team will be a particular bright point.

The midfielder covered every blade of grass across the 90 minutes and turned in a performance that made it very difficult to pick any sort of fault.

The former Sporting CP man used the ball well, bit into challenges and came out on top in the majority of his duels.

He also provided a crucial moment in the game, when he produced a calm finish in a crowded City box to double the visitors’ lead on the stroke of half-time.

Palhinha looked to be back to his best football that we saw so often during his time with Fulham, and if he continues to churn out performances of that level, then he will quickly become undroppable for Frank.

Description

Tottenham are up against time to secure an attacking midfielder before the transfer window closes.

Spurs’ primary target this summer was Morgan Gibbs-White, but Evangelos Marinakis ended any hope of signing him, citing an illegal approach.

Thomas Frank’s side have also missed out on Eberechi Eze after Arsenal swooped to steal the England international from their grasp.

Now, the Lilywhites face a decision on Morgan Rogers with the looming deadline of 1 September.

This story includes exclusive comments from football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham may be forced to spend big on Morgan Rogers

Spurs will be without James Maddison for an estimated six to nine months after he ruptured his ACL.

While that has accelerated the need for more creative flair, it is a position the North Londoners have been looking to strengthen all summer, offering nearly £70million for Eze only to miss out.

Now, football finance expert Dan Plumley – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has weighed in on their pursuit of Rogers, when asked if they could spend more money now.

“Well, it certainly puts the pressure on, doesn’t it?” he said.

“You get, as these kinds of things unfold and as you said, Gibbs-White, £60million was the figure we were told, Eze £68m, both of those have not gone your way, and you are openly in the market for that kind of player.

“You have a decision to make then as to whether you are going to go a little bit higher on the next one, and also the club that’s selling, if they are to sell, will also know that, so again, the premium goes up.

“It’s going to be an interesting one to have a look at in the next few days because it does put them into a position, Spurs, of having to go bigger, and we’ve seen in the past they’ve not been prepared to do that.

“But given everything that’s gone through the window and obviously with injury to Maddison as well, they might feel that they’re going to have to stretch the boat out a little bit and pay that little bit more to secure one of those players because, as you said, the previous two, decent fees but haven’t gone their way.”

Landing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa will be tough for Spurs

If it were the start of the transfer window, then there would be more optimism that Tottenham could land Rogers.

However, with the deadline set for the start of September, the Lilywhites face a race against time to get their man.

The PFA Young Player of the Year is Aston Villa’s prized asset, and the last thing they will want is to lose him.

Of course, if the North London outfit make a big enough bid, then Villa will have a decision to make on his future, with Tottenham suggesting £80million themselves.

One thing that is for sure is that if Tottenham managed to bag Rogers, then they would have to make him their club record signing.

Thomas Frank has not failed to impress since Tottenham appointed him as head coach.

There were questions about his ability to coach at the top level when Tottenham appointed Frank to replace Ange Postecoglou.

He has since proven most pessimists wrong. First came during Spurs’ defeat to PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final. While the Lilywhites lost on penalties, their initial 85 minutes sold fans dreams.

Now, after Tottenham’s 2-0 victory against Manchester City, there is an expectation that Spurs can win big things under the Dane.

Alan Shearer is the latest person who has been impressed with Frank’s approach since becoming head coach at the North London club.

Alan Shearer welcomes Thomas Frank’s response to Eberechi Eze transfer

Tottenham believed that Eberechi Eze’s transfer to North London was almost a done deal.

However, after Kai Havertz was sidelined due to injury, the Gunners reignited their interest in the Englishman. A couple of hours later, Eze was on his way to Arsenal.

This was humiliating for Tottenham after missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White, and CEO Vinai Venkatesham got caught up in the fallout of Eze’s failed transfer.

But Frank was adamant that players who do not want to play for Tottenham should not arrive in North London. Shearer seems to agree with the sentiment wholeheartedly.

Speaking on Match of the Day on Saturday, 23 August, he said: “I heard Thomas Frank say today that if players don’t want to play for us, fine. Forget them, we’ll move on.

“And he’s made a brilliant start to his Tottenham career.”

The Lilywhites have now moved on to other number 10 targets as Frank looks to strengthen that position.

Who should replace James Maddison at Tottenham?

James Maddison’s substitution against Newcastle United during pre-season and later confirmed ACL injury was a shock to the system.

As such, Tottenham have been left scrambling for a replacement. Morgan Rogers and Nico Paz are considered potential options for the Spurs.

They’re both good options for two very different reasons. What Rogers lacks in forward passes, he makes up for in ball carrying. While Paz excels in progressive passing.

Pape Matar Sarr cannot be ruled out as an alternative and was used by Frank as a 10 during Spurs’ defeat to Bayern Munich during pre-season.

While he is not a 10, as Tottenham’s recent Premier League win has demonstrated, the Dane can adapt his midfield to work around the Senegalese midfielder.

Last season, he outperformed his competition in several regards, including forward passes, duels, and possession won. With Sarr excelling in both attack and defence, Frank may already have Maddison’s replacement at home.

Tottenham beat Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium with a momentous performance.

Goals from Brennan Johnson and Joao Palhinha gave Spurs a deserved win, reaffirming their status as Man City’s bogey team.

Thomas Frank named an attacking line-up and it paid dividends for Spurs, who have won both of their opening Premier League games.

The result will have given Tottenham fans more reasons to be optimistic this season, despite the club’s struggles in the transfer market.

Jamie O’Hara makes grand comparisons of Tottenham midfield after Manchester City win

In typical fashion, Jamie O’Hara was sharing his optimism about Tottenham’s season with anyone who would listen during his shift as a pundit on TalkSPORT.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When questioned about the team’s performance, O’Hara dared to compare Spurs’ midfield three with the trio who won the Premier League for Liverpool.

He said: “The energy reminds me of Liverpool’s midfield three when they were flying high.”

While it might be a bit soon to make such grand comparisons, Joao Palhinha delivered a majestic performance that will make the rest of the league sit up and take notice.

Thomas Frank is giving Tottenham fans reasons to think big

Tottenham fans have seen this early promise before.

They were top of the league in October under Ange Postecoglou two years ago before it all came crashing down.

The club has built a reputation for delivering exciting performances, only for everything to collapse from underneath them.

But the early signs are that Frank is the man who can finally banish the ‘Spursy’ curse.

The team looks more organised, resilient and adaptive under the Danish manager. At the same time, they have retained the flair that can punish even the sternest Premier League defences.

The midfield trio of Palhinha, Sarr and Bentancur will be important going forward, but no-one at the club has contributed more to Spurs’ revival than Frank himself.

Frank has been Tottenham’s signing of the season, and he has given the fans more reasons to start thinking big.

Richarlison has endured a topsy-turvy time at Tottenham over the years, but things are changing in North London.

During his stint with the Europa League champions, the Brazilian has struggled to find the form he showed at Everton, with his career seemingly fizzling out through injuries.

However, Richarlison put in an eye-catching display against Paris Saint-Germain before scoring two for Spurs against Burnley.

Now, Daniel Levy owes the 28-year-old an apology after the latest developments at the North London club.

Richarlison starts for Tottenham after Crystal Palace links

Spurs reportedly included Richarlison in their offer for Eberechi Eze, with Levy seemingly happy to part ways with him.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The timing of that offer could not be more shocking, given how admirably the Brazilian has performed in recent weeks.

Now that that deal has been hijacked by Arsenal, it does make you wonder how Richarlison is feeling about such news.

The forward has only just started to find his feet again, with confidence flowing under new boss Thomas Frank.

Indeed, whatever Frank said to Richarlison must have worked a treat as he has effectively taken Dominic Solanke’s place.

The Brazilian retained his place in Frank’s starting lineup at Manchester City, and made his mark on the win massively.

Richarlison bags impressive assist against Man City

While he had a fairly quiet start against Man City, the Brazilian has continued his impressive early-season form.

As the first half drew to a close, the 28-year-old timed his run to perfection to get in behind the City backline.

After composing himself, the Brazilian international squared a perfectly timed ball for Brennan Johnson, who finished superbly.

Given the speculation around his future, the least Levy should do is offer an apology to his star player.

If it were not for the former Everton man, then the start of the season could have gone very differently for the North London club.

Tottenham have finally found the real Richarlison, and Levy should be red-faced as he watches on, with yet another huge three points picked up at Manchester City.

Tottenham are desperate to land a new attacking midfielder before the impending deadline, having missed out on several targets this summer.

Having failed to land Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze, Spurs are interested in signing Morgan Rogers.

However, given how tough it will be to secure him, Tottenham could turn to Leicester City’s Bilal El Kannouss.

Now, the 21-year-old’s immediate future has become a major talking point after the news coming out of Leicester.

Bilal El Khannouss left out of Leicester City squad

El Khannouss may represent an underwhelming acquisition for Spurs, but he may be the only option.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Thomas Frank has lost James Maddison for six to nine months after he ruptured his ACL in pre-season, and a replacement is needed.

With Eze opting for Arsenal, Crystal Palace require an alternative and are believed to be closing in on El Khannouss.

Indeed, the Moroccan was left out of Leicester’s squad to face Charlton Athletic on Saturday, as he nears an exit from the East Midlands club.

While he appears to be heading to Selhurst Park, there is every chance Spurs could complete a hijack of their own.

However, Dean Ashton, speaking live on talkSPORT (23 August, 11.45 am), has questioned his suitability.

He said: “I think he would be a better fit at Crystal Palace, and I think what they’ve tended to do is look for talent in the Championship and blood them at Premier League level, you know, Wharton, Eze, plenty of others to have done that with, that would definitely suit them.

“I don’t think he would suit Tottenham because that’s what they’ve got on the bench today, which is Tel and Odobert there, their 20-year-olds who need to develop, I don’t think they need another one.”

Thomas Frank does not need Bilal El Khannouss at Tottenham

Given the players Frank already has within his ranks, Spurs do not need to sign another player for the future.

As Ashton referenced, the Lilywhites already have several young forward players who are arguably better prospects.

What the North London club really need is an immediate big-name replacement for Maddison, and El Khannouss is not that yet.

However, with time of the essence, the 21-year-old may end up as the only realistic option for Tottenham.

Eberechi Eze mural vandalised ahead of Arsenal vs Leeds as Tottenham transfer hijacked

Tottenham have faced embarrassment in recent days after their pursuit of Eberechi Eze was hijacked by bitter rivals Arsenal.

Spurs were in talks with Crystal Palace over a deal for Eze for weeks, but with the move on the brink of completion, Arsenal swooped in to steal their former academy starlet from under Tottenham’s noses.

Many Tottenham fans are furious, both at Daniel Levy after another transfer blunder, but at the player after he rejected their interest in favour of a move to Arsenal.

The rivalry between Spurs and the Gunners has always been heated, but this transfer has sparked even more venom between the sides, and some Tottenham fans have now seemingly taken action.

Eberechi Eze mural near Emirates Stadium vandalised

While Eze’s pending move to Arsenal has not yet been announced, their fans have already created a mural painting of the attacking midfielder in a tunnel near the Emirates Stadium.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Arsenal and Tottenham are just 6.4 kilometres apart, and there will be Spurs fans living near the Emirates who would have had to walk past it every day.

However, the mural has now been destroyed overnight, with Eze’s face blanked out with white paint, and there was a controversial nickname used by Spurs supporters spray-painted on it.

Arsenal take on Leeds United in the late Saturday kick-off on 23 August.

One Arsenal fan shared a picture of the mural on X and described the vandalism as “pathetic”.

Tottenham’s rivalry with Arsenal even more heated now

Spurs and Arsenal have always been bitter enemies, but some believe the hatred in the derby may have slightly lessened in the last two or three years.

Tottenham’s poor recent North London derby record may have played a part, with no competitive wins in the fixture since 2022.

Arsenal fans found themselves supporting Tottenham against Manchester City in 2024, a game which saw Spurs lose and ultimately cost them the Premier League title.

While vandalism cannot be condoned, it is clear to see that the events surrounding Eze’s transfer have refuelled the sheer hatred between the two clubs and fanbases, and the midfielder is sure to receive a hostile reception from Spurs fans in the next North London derby.

Tottenham recorded a superb 2-0 victory away at Manchester City to make it two wins out of two in the Premier League so far.

Brennan Johnson and Joao Palhinha both scored, and Spurs held firm to keep a clean sheet in a tactical masterclass from Thomas Frank.

While there were several outstanding performers, including Pape Matar Sarr and Palhinha in midfield, the game was not totally without jeopardy.

There was one particularly nervy moment as Tottenham protected their lead, and fans have now expressed their frustration with Guglielmo Vicario.

Tottenham fans slam Guglielmo Vicario in Man City win

Goalkeeper Vicario made a few big saves as he kept a clean sheet at the Etihad Stadium, but his performance was criticised by fans in two key areas.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Vicario’s kicking and distribution have never been his strongest points, and he very nearly cost his side dearly with a woeful pass to Micky Van de Ven in the second half.

The centre-back was then robbed of the ball in the box directly as a result of the overhit pass, but Spurs managed to rescue the situation to prevent a goal.

Spurs fans took to social media to criticise Vicario’s kicking and cross claiming, as a very frustrating part of his game.

Tottenham have Guglielmo Vicario concern under Thomas Frank

Frank outsmarted Pep Guardiola as his side recorded a valuable win, and it is already clear to see the style of play he is trying to implement.

Spurs played superbly on the counter, while they also played out from the back with the defence dropping deep into their own box.

If Tottenham are going to play a short-passing game with their goalkeeper, then they may need someone better with the ball at his feet than the Italian, despite his strengths when it comes to shot-stopping.

For now, though, Tottenham have other transfer priorities, and Frank will have to make do with Vicario as his number one goalkeeper unless he chooses Antonin Kinsky, but with two clean sheets so far, it has otherwise been a good start to the season.
