Tottenham still haven’t fixed Dominic Solanke’s biggest issue as relegation looms - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Dominic Solanke is staying positive, even with Tottenham Hotspur on the brink of oblivion.

“When we are all together, I think we can fly,” was his optimistic verdict after leading Spurs’ fightback against Manchester City back in February. Solanke had indeed taken flight, scoring an inventive, jaw-dropping scorpion kick that left Gianluigi Donnarumma pawing at thin air.

Before then, he hadn’t netted a single Premier League goal all season, with his brace in 17 breathless minutes belatedly opening his account. However, any expectations that he would use this moment of magic as a springboard quickly fizzled out, as did Spurs’ campaign.

Solanke has long been accused of only performing in fleeting moments, but with the club teetering on the cusp of dropping into the Championship, what they need more than anything is consistency. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to offer that.

Tottenham next travel to Wolves in a must-win match on Saturday afternoon, and Solanke is expected to start again despite failing to score under Roberto De Zerbi.

Tottenham can’t rely on Dominic Solanke

Solanke remains extremely well-liked in the dressing room and was just as popular at Bournemouth, too. He is admired for his bright and amiable personality, which he has successfully maintained despite the pressure that came with his £65million switch to Spurs.

He had been Tottenham’s club-record signing and was therefore unable to escape the spotlight. Luckily, he caught the eye under Ange Postecoglou in his debut campaign, scoring 16 goals in total and playing his part in the Europa League success.

This term has proved much more difficult, though. Ankle surgery in August restricted him to a watching brief for much of Thomas Frank’s tenure. Spurs were woefully blunt in his absence, while James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski were also recovering from injury.

Solanke will be lucky to start against Wolves, but he offers plenty to the frontline. He is just as adept at dropping deep and feeding through his team-mates as he is turning and sprinting directly at the heart of opponents. This, though, is where Spurs’ headache lies.

They are desperate for more goals – and lots of them.

The 28-year-old quickly won over supporters with his willingness to hassle defenders and force turnovers. He is, however, in his prime and the goals – the driving force behind the big-money swoop for him – are not exactly flowing.

This will concern De Zerbi. The Italian would also have every right to be scratching his chin at the sheer bemusement of it all. Solanke possesses an all-round skillset that should make him a natural poacher, but he has netted just once in his last nine matches.

Tottenham need him to step up if they are to stave off relegation.

This season, Solanke has scored three goals in his 14 Premier League appearances to date. There are caveats, of course. His ankle procedure in September ruled him out of a total of 33 matches for club and country, and he required time as he built his match sharpness back up.

What De Zerbi must now decide is whether Solanke’s strengths outweigh his drawbacks.

In the top-flight, he has taken just 20 shots on goal, 55 per cent of which have been on target. This points to both a wider creativity issue at Spurs, but also the frontman’s individual flaws. The statistics suggest that he is not arriving in dangerous positions at the right time.

His pass accuracy of 73.5 per cent demonstrates that he is working well in tandem with his team-mates, but his tally of six chances created raises a big issue: is it really worth him dropping deep and not attacking the posts? His recent performances would suggest not.

There are numerous positives. His 48 per cent dribble success places him in the 75th percentile in comparison to other Premier League strikers – an impressive achievement. On the flip side, his 30.5 per cent aerial duel success needs drastic improvement.

Spurs have big striker problem

This is not to say that Solanke is solely to blame for Spurs’ profligacy.

It could be argued, in fact, that all of Tottenham’s striking options have major question marks hanging over their heads. Richarlison has blown hot and cold too frequently, while Randal Kolo Muani has been poor and will leave regardless at the end of the campaign.

Mathys Tel is understandably frustrated with his limited opportunities, but when he has played, he hasn’t hinted that he can solve the club’s scoring problems.

It’s clear, then, that a refresh is required. The only problem is that this will depend on the league they will be playing in next season, making their final matches all the more crucial.

Tottenham fans will have fingers crossed as Gary Neville predicts five-year first vs Wolves - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur fans are going to have their fingers crossed after Gary Neville’s latest prediction.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side are preparing to make the trip to Wolves, knowing that anything but three points is a huge disappointment.

Saturday’s hosts had their relegation officially confirmed on Monday as a result of West Ham’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace.

It has been a dismal term for the Old Gold, who have spent the entirety of the campaign in the bottom three.

However, they carry a fantastic record against Tottenham, and will look to further damage Spurs’ survival hopes as the season reaches the final weeks.

Gary Neville has say on Wolves vs Tottenham outcome

Since Wolves’ promotion to the Premier League in 2018, they have largely had Tottenham’s number.

Both at home and away, the Midlanders have proven a real thorn in the Lilywhites’ side, and go into the weekend unbeaten in six matches against Spurs.

And alongside the unbeaten run, Wolves have not fallen to defeat against Saturday’s opponents in five matches on home soil spanning five years.

Winning just three times at Molineux since 2018, the place has not been a happy hunting ground for Spurs, though pundit Neville believes that De Zerbi’s side will finally bring this period of misfortune to an end.

“I don’t think Wolves will win,” he said on The Overlap. “I think Tottenham are going to score a late winner – 2-1.”

In the last two seasons, Wolves and Tottenham are the two ever-present sides with the fewest points, racking up 59 and 69 respectively. They have also suffered the most defeats in the division, with 42 and 38.

Further damage will be inflicted on Saturday, and fans of the North London outfit will be praying that they are the ones celebrating come the final whistle.

Although it is also worth pointing out that Wolves have lost 22 Premier League games this season. Only in four previous top-flight campaigns have they lost more, most recently in 2011-12.

Tottenham fans will want one final memory at Molineux

With relegation confirmed for Rob Edwards and his side, Tottenham will be looking to rub salt in the wounds at the weekend, and go a long way to confirming that it is not going to be themselves joining Wolves and Burnley in the Championship.

Molineux has been a horrible place for the Lilywhites since 2018, with Spurs losing in some almost-comedic ways.

Fans will remember the last-minute chaos of 2023, when goals from Pablo Sarabia and Mario Lemina saw Wolves come from a goal behind to win in injury time, or when Adama Traore rattled in a late winner off the crossbar earlier that year.

Tottenham’s most recent league win at Molineux came in 2021, with Dele Alli scoring from the spot under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Should results elsewhere go in their favour, De Zerbi’s side could climb out of the relegation zone this weekend.

Though, that is reliant on a win in the Midlanders, finally bringing an end to this poor run before Wolves’ relegation.

Will Lankshear: Tottenham future examined as double relegation on the cards - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Will Lankshear’s future at Tottenham Hotspur may hinge on the outcome of their relegation battle.

With just five games to be played, Spurs remain in the bottom three of the Premier League and are still searching for their first domestic win of the year.

Quite a remarkable statement when you consider the fact that we are just over a week away from entering May.

There’s a case to be made that the long-term future of Spurs will be decided by these next five games, with the North Londoners likely to face severe financial issues if they are relegated.

However, the future of several youth players will also be considered, and after Lankshear looks set to suffer relegation with Oxford, he will be one of them.

Does Will Lankshear have a future at Tottenham?

Lankshear has had an excellent season with Oxford, despite their seemingly impending relegation to League One, having scored ten goals for them.

He showcased his physicality, ability in front of goal, and willingness to work hard for the team even in the hardest situations.

The Englishman will return to North London in a matter of weeks, where he could find himself relegated again, but this time with Tottenham.

Should that be the case, then Lankshear will almost certainly be the starting striker for Spurs in the Championship, though it’s unlikely he’d have the same role to play in the Premier League.

Would Tottenham survival spell the end for Lankshear?

Having just turned 21, Lankshear has still only made six first-team appearances for Tottenham.

That speaks volumes about where he sits in the pecking order, despite their struggles over the last 12 months.

If Spurs are to avoid relegation, that seems highly unlikely to change, and another loan move would make very little sense.

Survival would be huge for Tottenham, but it could be the end of Lankshear in North London.

Tottenham should heed Leicester warning as relegation promises wages misery

Tottenham should heed Leicester warning as relegation promises wages misery - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

When signing for Tottenham Hotspur, new players probably wouldn’t have looked too closely at the relegation clause written into their contract. After all, why would they?

Last summer, and perhaps even as recently as January, the prospect of dropping into the Championship still looked an impossibility, even if it did lurk on the horizon. But over the course of several legacy-defining months, Spurs have tumbled closer to oblivion.

An eye-opening contrast lies at the heart of the problem. Spurs are sitting pretty in ninth in Deloitte’s Money League in comparison to other elite clubs across the world, but it is their precarious position in the top-flight that will define them. Money truly isn’t everything.

Just look at Leicester City. Premier League champions just a decade ago, they will now be playing League One football next season. Saddled with a truly eye-watering wage bill, they have sunk deep into the abyss. It now falls to Spurs to avoid the same punishing fate.

Roberto De Zerbi won’t want to dwell on it, but Tottenham really are in deep, deep trouble. They have taken steps to slash wages if they are relegated, but haven’t gone far enough.

Tottenham relegation clause not enough

According to Capology, only Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa have a larger wage bill than Tottenham this season. There is, then, the most powerful incentive for Spurs’ players to step up: protecting their own income.

Supporters would, of course, prefer them to play for pride and to represent this historic institution, but they will also know that money is the biggest motivator. It is just as well that the club has plenty of it, with revenue up to £565million in their 2023-24 accounts.

But at the same time, the squad’s payroll also shot up from £222m to £256m across the same period. It goes without saying that that is now a significant problem.

To counteract this, strict financial contingency clauses are in place, which will see every first-team player take a sizeable hit to their wages if they are relegated. According to The Athletic, the squad’s weekly earnings could be slashed by as much as 50 per cent.

That is a significantly higher reduction than the industry standard. Indeed, players typically lose around 20 to 30 per cent of their salary after dropping into the second division.

But with Spurs’ wage bill standing at an inflated £2.63m gross per week – almost double that of West Ham (£1.43m) – it could be argued that 50 per cent is still not enough.

The hierarchy are likely to have already figured this out for themselves, but will also be expecting a host of players to leave the club in a mass exodus to avoid playing in the Championship. This, in turn, would bring down the overall wage bill to a manageable level.

While Spurs will be able to weather the financial storm, the commitment of their biggest players will be put to the test. Do they truly love the club? Would they give every drop to steer them back into the Premier League if the unthinkable does happen?

Their reputations are on the line.

If money really is the biggest motivator, a handful of first-team regulars could suddenly find themselves sapped of all enthusiasm next season. Players who currently take home six figures per month would see their incomes drop to five digits. No one is exempt.

Xavi Simons and captain Cristian Romero would have to shoulder the biggest cuts, with their respective £195,000 contracts to be reduced to £97,500 per week. James Maddison, sorely missed this season, would also take a hefty hit, from £170,000 a week down to £85,000.

Staggeringly, ill-fated winter arrival Conor Gallagher was entrusted with a weekly salary of £160,000. A 50 per cent reduction would see it become just £80,000 next season.

Rightly or wrongly, other big earners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium include Mohammed Kudus (£150,000 down to £75,000) and Dominic Solanke (£140,000 down to £70,000).

But there is a flip side. Players who currently don’t earn enough to reflect their importance this campaign could end up taking home even less in the event of relegation.

That will do nothing to unite a wounded dressing room.

Micky van de Ven’s £90,000 wage would be reduced to just £45,000, while Pedro Porro would earn only £42,500. Bizarrely, that would be the same amount as Radu Dragusin. Djed Spence would be on one of the lowest Championship wages: £20,000 per week.

This clearly would not be sustainable.

Who could leave Spurs after relegation?

Ultimately, there would be a knock-on effect, leaving Tottenham with no choice but to sell players. This might be necessary even if they do manage to avoid the drop.

There are concerns around the club that they will lose their prized assets – including Archie Gray, Van de Ven and Solanke – for drastically below market value.

It is also worth remembering that Romero has three years remaining on his deal and is valued at around £50m. This, too, makes him ripe for the culling. However, potential suitors will know they would likely be able to snap him up for a fraction of his standard asking price.

The easiest solution to this mess, of course, is to avoid relegation. But with Spurs without a top-flight win since December, that is proving worryingly difficult.

Liam Rosenior sack: Roberto De Zerbi among favourites to leave Tottenham for Chelsea job - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Liam Rosenior is on the brink of the sack at Chelsea, with their woes giving Tottenham Hotspur fans a brief respite from their own troubles.

In a shock twist, though, it may not all be good news with the latest surrounding Roberto De Zerbi.

Tottenham are in a rut of their own, currently stranded in the Premier League relegation zone by two points after a 2-2 draw against Brighton on Saturday.

That was De Zerbi’s first home game in charge, with the Italian falling to that 1-0 defeat at Sunderland in his debut for the Lilywhites.

Despite only being two games into his tenure, he has been linked with the Chelsea job.

Roberto De Zerbi among favourites for Chelsea job

Rosenior hasn’t been sacked yet, but crisis talks have been held at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea appear to have thrown away qualification for the Champions League, with serious doubts over whether they can beat Leeds in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley on Sunday, too.

That may be the final straw for Rosenior, if he makes it that far.

But, given De Zerbi is only two games into a five-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, there is absolutely zero chance he is going to Chelsea.

According to major bookmakers, the Italian is 6/1 to take over as their next permanent manager.

Right now, the only thing that matters is the next game in North London.

Tottenham face Wolves at Molineux on Saturday afternoon, and if they do not win that game, then relegation is more than likely.

Tottenham’s final five games in Premier League

After Wolves, there are huge games against Aston Villa and Leeds.

With the latter currently eight points ahead of Spurs, it would take a massive swing over the next two games to make that more important than it currently looks.

Ironically, then comes a trip to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea in the penultimate game of the season, with Rosenior highly unlikely to still be in charge for that.

De Zerbi will be there, and despite the odds, he will be in the away dugout trying to pick up three points at a not-so-happy hunting ground for Tottenham over the years.

Then Everton come to town on the final day of the season, with De Zerbi concentrating on what’s ahead of him and Spurs rather than other jobs, especially the Chelsea role.

Tottenham predicted XI vs Wolves – Mathys Tel to step up as Spurs flop axed - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need of three points as they take on Wolves at Molineux.

Saturday’s opponents were put out of their misery on Monday, with West Ham’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace officially confirming their relegation to the Championship.

As a result, Spurs will feel confident of picking up their first win of 2026, but they must still navigate a tough test at Molineux, with Wolves unbeaten in their last two home league games.

Tottenham played out a 2-2 draw with Brighton on Saturday, with a late dagger from Georginio Rutter levelling the scores in Roberto De Zerbi’s first home match.

Sitting two points behind West Ham, the Lilywhites are in desperate need of a win as they look to get their survival charge up and running.

Roberto De Zerbi to axe Randal Kolo Muani after poor spell

Arriving over the international break, De Zerbi inherited a squad that was not just downtrodden but riddled with injuries, too.

Without any orthodox wingers, the Italian has deployed Paris Saint-Germain loanee Randal Kolo Muani in both of his matches, though it has been evident on both occasions that it just hasn’t worked.

With this in mind, the French flop could be in line for an appearance from the bench on Saturday, with compatriot Mathys Tel coming in.

Tel was previously of interest to De Zerbi at Marseille, but he has come off the bench in both matches under the new boss thus far.

While he, like Kolo Muani, is not an orthodox winger, he should be handed an opportunity against Wolves after a much livelier performance against Brighton.

Alongside this, Archie Gray could come in for Yves Bissouma, who made his return in the recent Brighton encounter, rounding off two Spurs changes.

Rodrigo Bentancur would also return in the 2-2 draw, putting in a promising performance, meaning that he could retain his spot after completing 86 per cent of his passes and winning five of his six duels and all of his four tackles.

James Maddison also found himself back in the squad after missing the entirety of the current campaign, though it is likely too soon when it comes to starting a match.

Wolves will present a tough test despite relegation

While Spurs go into Saturday’s clash as firm favourites, the match itself could be a big banana skin for the visitors.

Wolves have spent the entirety of the campaign in the bottom three and have finally been put out of their misery this week.

Though the improvement has been clear under Rob Edwards, recent home wins over Aston Villa and Liverpool have shown that three points are never a guarantee at Molineux.

Alongside this, the Old Gold have been a thorn in Tottenham’s side for the majority of their time in the top flight, with the Lilywhites winning just twice in the Black Country since 2018.

With relegation finally confirmed, the pressure is off for Edwards’ side, who will want to end the season somewhat on a high with three home matches remaining.

Wolves have picked up big results against Arsenal, Villa and Liverpool at home, while they played out a 1-1 draw with Spurs in the reverse fixture.

De Zerbi’s side are the favourites, but Saturday will be far from an easy day out for the visitors.

Yves Bissouma: Roberto De Zerbi audition may have also been his Tottenham farewell - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Yves Bissouma had a shocker for Tottenham Hotspur in their latest draw with Brighton.

It wasn’t a day to remember for either Roberto De Zerbi or for Bissouma against their former club, with the Italian boss becoming only the second manager from the last 13 to fail to win his first home game, while Bissouma failed to impress.

The Mali international has been linked heavily with an exit from Spurs over the last 12 months, and based on his showing against the Seagulls, you can see why.

He was way off the pace, which has been a sentence that has held true for far too many players this season, especially in midfield.

Bissouma is almost certain to leave Tottenham this summer, and his lack of quality in his recent performance will only accelerate that exit.

Yves Bissouma’s game vs Brighton by the numbers

The main issue that Spurs have in midfield is that none of their options specialises in any area of their game.

They have a lot of average qualities, but nothing capable of changing a game at either end of the pitch, and Bissouma’s display showcased that perfectly.

He completed 22 of his 24 attempted passes, but that was the only positive outcome of his performance.

Bissouma failed to complete his only attempted dribble in the game, failed to create any chances, and, more worryingly, failed to win any of his four duels in the clash.

The 29-year-old made no tackles, interceptions or blocks, despite having been on the pitch for 57 minutes.

Not only was it his first chance to impress De Zerbi, but it may also prove to have been his last chance to extend his stay in North London.

Tottenham have clear priority heading into the summer window

Regardless of the outcome of their fight against relegation, Spurs’ midfield needs a complete overhaul.

They have far too many passengers in that area of the pitch, and it is hindering their ability to showcase quality attacking-wise or defensively.

Getting Bissouma’s wages off the books will help, as will that of several others who have underperformed massively, but the work will only be partly done.

Rodrigo Bentancur tipped for starring role in ‘massive lift’ for Tottenham survival hopes - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have been told to start Rodrigo Bentancur for their last five Premier League matches.

Roberto De Zerbi‘s side sit in the relegation zone, two points behind West Ham with a total of 15 left to play.

The Uruguayan midfielder made his return to the pitch in the 2-2 draw with Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He had missed three months of action with a hamstring issue, and his absence was sorely missed as shown by his performance against the Seagulls.

Tottenham fans loved to see the midfielder back among the action, and will want to see more of him after an impressive display.

Why Bentancur has to play in the rest of Tottenham’s games

John Wenham believes Bentancur has to play in all five of Tottenham’s remaining games, in their bid for survival, after what he saw in the game against De Zerbi’s old side.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “The return of Rodrigo Bentancur, who gave a sort of authoritative leadership style performance in the centre of midfield, was brilliant.

“He brought real calmness to our play, he gave Kinsky an outlet from the short goal kicks, he’s there, he picks up the ball, he doesn’t lose possession, and he keeps you in control of the game.

“I think Rodrigo Bentancur being back was a massive lift that’s sort of gone under the radar, he will be a key player for Spurs, and Roberto De Zerbi over these next five games.

“I expect him to start every one.”

How did Bentancur perform vs Brighton?

Bentancur offers so much more to Spurs when he is in the side, as he is comfortable on the ball, completing 86 per cent of his 35 pass attempts against the AMEX Stadium side.

That is especially true defensively, as he has a steel to his game that others lack.

He made four tackles, two clearances, two interceptions and four recoveries in the contest, according to data from Fotmob.

The 28-year-old won five of the six ground duels that he contested, for an 83 per cent success rate in his comeback.

If he can continue that, he could help to drag the Lilywhites out of the difficult situation that they find themselves in at the moment.

Tottenham shouldn’t look past Wolves as Premier League record demands respect - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Molineux to play Wolves on Saturday, with Spurs having failed to beat Wanderers in the Premier League since 2022.

Wolves are a wounded animal at the moment, with their relegation to the Championship now confirmed.

Rob Edwards has been unable to keep Wanderers in the top flight, with little but pride to play for in the remaining weeks of the season.

So, with nothing left to play for by way of their Premier League status this season, opposing fans will likely view their team’s game against them as a ‘guaranteed’ three points.

However, with Tottenham taking on Wolves this Saturday, everyone connected with Spurs must not go into the match with that mindset.

What is Tottenham’s Premier League record vs Wolves?

Tottenham are now winless from their last 15 Premier League games: their worst-ever run in the competition.

Roberto De Zerbi‘s side came awfully close to three points against Brighton last time out, but threw the win away in the dying seconds of the match.

So, with Wolves next on the agenda, surely this has to be nothing less than three points for Tottenham, right?

Well, there’s no such thing as a guaranteed win in football, and certainly not when it comes to this Spurs side.

As poor as Wanderers have been this season, the history books enable them to cite clear evidence as to why nobody from N17 should be looking past them on Saturday.

Indeed, Tottenham haven’t beaten Wolves in any of their last six Premier League meetings, with Spurs’ most recent league win over them coming in August 2022.

The Old Gold have claimed victory four times over their last six league games with the Lilywhites, and the misery doesn’t end there for Tottenham either.

In fact, Spurs also haven’t won at Saturday’s venue, Molineux, in any of their last three visits in the league, so De Zerbi’s side have some seriously bad form with Wanderers to overturn this weekend.

Tottenham could be playing Wolves at the worst time

With relegation confirmed, the pressure is now totally off Wolves for the rest of the season, with no expectations from their supporters, who are largely feeling apathetic towards their team now.

However, Edwards isn’t the kind of manager to simply let the season peter out, as he’s too emotionally connected and invested in that football club to allow that to happen.

He will be telling his players that even if results don’t matter now, performances certainly do, as he looks to find out who he can rely on to take with him to the Championship, and which players he won’t.

Sometimes, it can be these sorts of teams that pose considerable problems for sides feeling the pressure of needing points, and that’s the situation Tottenham are entering on Saturday.

They know that anything but a win at Molineux will, for many, hammer home one of the final nails in their Premier League coffin, considering Spurs’ final four consist of: Aston Villa, Leeds, Chelsea and Everton respectively.

Wolves can just go out and play without any fear now, whereas Tottenham nerves are jangling, and so whilst they are where they are for a reason, Wanderers might not be the ideal team Spurs want to be playing right now.

Roberto De Zerbi has claimed Tottenham Hotspur can win five Premier League matches in a row.

Speaking after drawing versus Brighton, the Spurs manager stated, “This team is able to win five games in a row.” However, the Italian’s word will only be viewed as merely a hollow motivation tactic based on this season’s form.

Things have gone dramatically wrong in N17, with the officials in North London making countless errors after error, leading the Lilywhites into the relegation battle.

As Tottenham manager, De Zerbi will look to increase spirits, and doing so through his comments in the dressing room and media is one way to go about it.

But his latest claim about Tottenham’s remaining games is a feat not seen in North London since the days of Mauricio Pochettino.

Any Tottenham fan this season will tell you that there is little confidence Spurs can win one match, let alone go on a five-game streak.

It is a feat not often achieved in the Premier League and, for the Lilywhites, one not completed since the days of Pochettino.

The 2018-2019 campaign is the last time the Lilywhites faithful have been able to celebrate victories five times on the trot.

This came during December, with Pochettino’s side defeating Southampton, Leicester, Burnley, Everton and Bournemouth.

During that stretch of games, the N17 outfit did face a myriad of sides, with both Southampton and Burnley within the bottom four at the time of the fixture. While Leicester, Everton and Bournemouth were in the top 9.

That run of matches saw Tottenham average 3.4 goals per game while conceding just 0.6 per game. It is form that the Lilywhites could desperately do with right now.

This season, Spurs would have to improve drastically in both categories. In the Premier League, they average just 1.2 goals per match and 1.6 conceded per match.

When did Tottenham last win five games in a row?

While it has been a while since Tottenham won five Premier League matches in a row. They have more recently done so in all competitions.

In fact, it was last season when Ange Postecoglou managed this feat, beating Coventry, Brentford, Qarabag, Manchester United and Ferencvaros.

Over that period, Postecoglou’s outfit averaged 2.6 goals scored per game, and conceding 0.6 per game

However, only two of those matches came in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, both instances showcase how difficult a five-match win streak can be, and truthfully, De Zerbi’s words may be nothing more than wishful thinking.

Although De Zerbi has shown early signs he could keep Tottenham up.
