Micky van de Ven became the latest Tottenham Hotspur player to sustain an injury during this international break after being stood on during the Netherlands' Nations League match against Serbia.

Luka Jovic landed on the Spurs player's left arm after challenging for the ball in the final few minutes of Sunday's game. Van de Ven remained down after the incident, holding his left hand in pain.

National team captain Virgil van Dijk went over to check on his team-mate, followed by two members of the Netherlands' medical staff. They helped Van de Ven off the pitch after assessing his injury.

When Tottenham players will return to training ahead of Man Utd as international breaks nears end

Dutch head coach Xavi had made his fifth and final substitution minutes earlier, leaving the team down to ten players. However, they held on to win 2-1.

The Netherlands are now top of Group A2, ahead of Greece on goals scored. They have also avoided direct relegation to League B, as they can no longer finish below Serbia, who are on zero points.

Xavi was asked about Van de Ven during his post-match press conference in Eindhoven. The former Barcelona coach said: "He's OK, he felt dizzy because he suffered (an injury) in the finger, it's not a big injury."

Spurs' captain is the second of their Dutch defenders to be stepped on in a Nations League match against Serbia during this international break. Jan Paul van Hecke was the first one to experience it during their reverse fixture in Belgrade a week earlier.

He managed to stay on the pitch and see out their 2-1 win. Van Hecke, however, lasted just seven minutes of an open training session in Zeist before being seen in conversation with Xavi.

The player then sat down in the dugout without taking any further part. An announcement of his withdrawal then arrived soon after.

Van Hecke returned to Spurs instead of travelling to Thessaloniki last week for their match against Greece. He started their first two Nations League matches alongside Van de Ven.

Xavi explained : "During the match against Serbia, someone stepped on him. He didn't realise it during the match, but afterwards it was impossible for him to play.

"He really wanted to try, but he was in a lot of pain. That is why we decided to take him off the list. He tried to participate in recovery training [on Tuesday]. He tried again today (Wednesday), but he couldn't touch the ball."

What Dutch media have said about Tottenham ace Micky van de Ven after 'nasty' injury vs Serbia - Yahoo
Description

Tottenham Hotspur's Micky van de Ven was forced off with an injury for the Netherlands against Serbia on Sunday.

The Dutch beat Serbia 2-1 to go top of Group 2 in the Nations League, which concludes a successful international break for them.

Van de Ven had already played all three of his nation's previous games, but featured at left-back.

Roberto De Zerbi sees the 25-year-old as a centre-back, a position which he returned to against Serbia.

Spurs have had a horrid time with injuries in recent years, and the break hasn't been kind to them already.

With Jan Paul van Hecke already an injury doubt for Tottenham, De Zerbi now has another problem on his hands after what happened to Van de Ven.

How Dutch media reacted to Micky van de Ven's display and 'nasty' injury

Van de Ven technically had to come off before the final whistle, though he was not replaced, as Xavi Hernandez had already made his fifth and final change in the 82nd minute.

The defender boasted a 97 per cent passing accuracy in the match, misplacing just three of his 86 attempted passes

He made four accurate long balls, had 100 touches and won 100 per cent of his ground duels.

He made two tackles, three clearances and four recoveries, as his performance proved why he is so important to De Zerbi at Tottenham, which only makes his injury more worrying.

Voetbal Primeur gave him a 6/10 rating, writing: "First as a left back, then van de Ven operated from the centre of defence.

"Useful and reliable, but also a performance that will soon disappear from the collective memory. Due to a nasty wrist injury, he did not make it to the end of the match."

Sportnieuws.nl handed him a 6.5/10 rating and wrote: "Van de Ven had a difficult time in his previous three international matches as a left back, but came into his own better against Serbia.

"In possession, he often played more centrally, which immediately looked more natural. Defensively, he hardly got into trouble and recovered with his speed several times when things were not right at the back."

Finally, vi.nl explained van de Ven's injury, writing: "In the final phase of the duel between Orange and Serbia, things went wrong for van de Ven.

"The left-footed player came into a duel with Luka Jovic, who accidentally landed with his full weight on the arm of Van de Ven. How serious Van de Ven's injury is remains to be seen."

Gabby Agbonlahor calls out 'shocking' Micky van de Ven after Tottenham contract development The debacle De Zerbi now has on his hands

Though van de Ven only picked up a wrist injury, it was an issue that forced him off the pitch in the game for his national side.

This means he could be a doubt for Spurs' first game back against Manchester United, with van Hecke also in a race against time.

The pair have played a combined 12 games for the Lilywhites already this campaign, while the likes of Marcos Senesi and Tosin Adarabioyo have played four times combined.

De Zerbi has to decide his centre-back pairing soon for Man United, and it could be one that Tottenham fans have not seen before.

Tottenham's Antonin Kinsky sticks up for himself after Lamine Yamal moment on Czechia debut

Tottenham's Antonin Kinsky sticks up for himself after Lamine Yamal moment on Czechia debut - Yahoo
Description

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky made his Czechia debut against Spain on Saturday.

The 23-year-old has represented his country across numerous youth levels, but has required patience at senior level.

He's been called up to the senior side before, but heading into Saturday's Nations League clash with Spain, was yet to make his debut.

No longer is that the case, as the Spurs shot-stopper was finally granted his first cap against the world champions.

Luis de la Fuente's side ran out 3-1 winners, however, marking his first Czechia game with a defeat.

But Kinsky wasn't too harsh on himself after the game, and he had every right to be proud of his performance despite conceding three goals.

What did Antonin Kinsky say about stopping Lamine Yamal's goal?

Spain took the lead after just six minutes in Oviedo, with prodigal talent Lamine Yamal firing past Kinsky in the Czechia goal.

Rodri made it 2-0 on 35 minutes before the Czechs got one back with 20 minutes to play in the second half.

However, Ladislav Krecji was sent off with five minutes to go, and that enabled Spain to seal the three points through Mikel Merino on 89 minutes.

Speaking via Czech outlet iDNEZ, Kinsky doesn't believe he could've done anything to prevent Yamal's opening goal.

"I don't think there was much you could have done. Good shot, he wrapped it around me, he even tightened it up, even though he was shooting from a step," he said.

"We know his quality and we expected him to get into the chances.

"We didn't want to give him space and time, but they're setting up like that around the penalty area and he knows how to use it.

"I have to focus more on strength and speed to get there next time."

So, apart from conceding three goals, why does Kinsky actually deserve his flowers from his Spain performance?

Roberto De Zerbi's perfect message to Antonin Kinsky will only benefit Tottenham How many saves did Kinsky make vs Spain?

It would be very easy to look at the fact Kinsky conceded three goals against Spain and draw a conclusion on his display based on that.

That, however, would be highly unfair on the Tottenham keeper, as his underlying numbers from the defeat prove.

Per FotMob, Kinsky made a whopping seven saves on Saturday from Spain's 10 shots on target, which saw him produce a goals prevented number of 0.72.

He was also accurate with 74 per cent of his pass attempts, played five accurate long balls and made five saves from shots taken inside the box.

Kinsky made seven throws, 12 recoveries and took 58 touches, which was the most of any Czechia player on the pitch.

Czechia may have conceded three, but if it wasn't for Kinsky it could've been a cricket score in Spain.

Roberto De Zerbi must be thrilled at Kinsky's numbers from his Czechia debut, and should convince him that this a young keeper worth backing.

Liverpool and Tottenham told they should have appointed their managers as 'assistants'

Liverpool and Tottenham told they should have appointed their managers as 'assistants' - Yahoo
Description

Andoni Iraola at Liverpool and Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham Hotspur would have been more suited to initial roles as assistants.

That is the opinion of experienced former Everton, Tottenham and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Michael Carrick at Manchester United, too, was part of a wave of Premier League sides employing young managers this summer.

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is just 44 - the same age as Iraola - while De Zerbi is 47 and Carrick is 45.

The success of Mikel Arteta has certainly shown that age is not everything, however, with the Spaniard having been just 37 when he took over Arsenal, becoming a Premier League champion at 44.

It remains to be seen whether his age mates will be as successful in their new roles, but the faith is certainly there.

'Man United need an experienced figure'

It has been a mixed bag for the so-called 'big six's' Premier League managers this season so far.

Enzo Maresca, 46, and Iraola have started well, with Alonso having struggled more in recent weeks. For De Zerbi and Carrick, the international break could not have come quicker.

"Seriously, Manchester United need an experienced figure. People always spoke about [Carlo] Ancelotti. Somebody like that coming in and putting things right," King told Football Insider.

"The small clubs, Brentford. Thomas Frank went to Tottenham from there. The Bournemouth manager, Iraola, who went to Liverpool.

"The Tottenham manager now, De Zerbi. They've all come from small clubs. Maybe the clubs should have appointed them in the capacity of being assistants or learning what the clubs are about.

"Because as good a job as they've done at the smaller clubs, they can't seem to get it together at the bigger ones."

Tottenham set for Roberto De Zerbi talks over upcoming Spurs friendly clash - Insider Premier League cycle to continue

While the likes of Man United and Chelsea were previously focused on appointing heavyweight managers like Jose Mourinho and Ancelotti, the times have changed.

Now, the aim is to find young managers already capable of coaching at the top level of today's game.

If their limited experience includes having managed in the Premier League - all the better. The likes of Fabian Hurzeler, 33, at Brighton are already being earmarked for future interest in that respect.

Success will dictate if the trend continues in the coming years, but Arteta has certainly proved the value behind keeping faith.

Luca Williams-Barnett has more than Tottenham promotion on cards after latest England U19s exploits - Yahoo
Description

Luca Williams-Barnett has been making his own case to start for Tottenham Hotspur over the international break.

The N17 gem is highly rated at Hotspur Way, with many fans eager to see him given a chance in the first team.

Roberto De Zerbi has claimed that youngsters will be given a chance, but only if they are good enough, as several youth products have been in and around Spurs' first team since his arrival.

Mikey Moore started in the Lilywhites' opening Premier League game of the season, while Williams-Barnett has been in multiple matchday squads.

The versatile forward was called up to England's U19s squad ahead of the break, scoring in a 2-1 win over Norway in a friendly.

Williams-Barnett played once again for England's U19s on Friday, as the Tottenham youngster helped his nation to a 2-1 win over the USA this time.

Why Luca Williams-Barnett is not only due Tottenham promotion

Williams-Barnett has been flirting with Tottenham's first team so far this season, but also plays for the U21s.

He played in pre-season friendlies against MK Dons, Auckland FC, Sydney FC and Chelsea, making his first appearance of the season for the first team in the 5-1 win over Charlton in the Carabao Cup.

The 18-year-old last played for Tottenham's U21s before the international break, scoring and grabbing an assist in a 4-2 win over Manchester City in the Premier League 2.

The attacking midfielder earned an 8.7 FotMob rating for his performance, continuing to show why he deserves a full-time promotion to Spurs' starting squad.

However, Williams-Barnett got on the scoresheet once again for England's U19s against the USA, scoring the decisive goal on the hour mark to give the young Three Lions the win.

The teenager is now starting to show that not only does he deserve a promotion at Spurs, but he should also be allowed to take the next step up in England's academy.

England have U20s and U21s teams, and Williams-Barnett has surely done enough to earn a promotion for the next international break.

Why Roberto De Zerbi pressure has grown on Luca Williams-Barnet as England footage emerges How Williams-Barnett outshone record-breaking Arsenal youngster for England's U19s

Williams-Barnett is arguably Tottenham's most valuable youngster right now.

Tottenham are struggling in attack, which only makes the youngster's case for being in the team even stronger, as his flair and dynamism could add another element for Spurs in the final third.

He played in the same England U19s team as Max Dowman against the USA, though the Arsenal kid was sent off in the 74th minute, almost costing the Three Lions the game.

He holds the record as the youngest scorer in the history of the Premier League and is highly rated by Mikel Arteta and others.

If Dowman is good enough to play for the Gunners, then how is Williams-Barnett not good enough for Tottenham yet?

Dejan Kulusevski's 'nasty injuries' have 'taken a toll' - Tottenham's fears revealed - Yahoo
Description

Tottenham Hotspur forward Dejan Kulusevski has suffered injuries over the past 18 months that will have taken a serious toll on his body and mind.

That is according to former senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The 26-year-old appears set to return to first team action for the first time since the end of the 2024-25 season, when he suffered a knee injury.

Kulusevski had surgery and several set-backs in his attempts to return to action, with Tottenham and Roberto De Zerbi keen to not rush him back and risk further injury.

The Sweden international cost the Lilywhites just £25million in 2023 when his loan move was made permanent following a hugely exciting six months.

The winger scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions in the 2024-25 season, with Tottenham keen to see if he can rediscover that type of form.

'Dejan Kulusevski has had a serious injury'

When Kulusevski suffered his injury in 2025, there was disappointment that he would be missing the Europa League final.

Never could anyone at Tottenham have imagined that he would still be waiting to return to the pitch around 18 months later.

"Kulusevski had a serious injury and he's on the way to recovery, that's for sure. It's very similar to the way [Rodrigo] Bentancur came back," King told Football Insider.

"He had a nasty injury. A very good player, but these injuries, they take a toll on the player, I tell you.

"No matter how the surgery technique or the way that the medical teams can handle these injuries, it's still a big injury when it comes down to playing football or rugby or any physical running sport like that.

"It was the same with Bentancur. He got that nasty injury, which he's recovered from. Then he got banned while with the Uruguayan team. You don't need something like that when you've been out for a long time and you're just coming back.

"You don't need another break, you need matches, and this is the thing with Kulusevski, because he's been a good player for Tottenham."

Tottenham expert reveals how long Dejan Kulusevski needs to return to best after 'kick in the face' What has Kulusevski said?

It remains unclear when De Zerbi plans to give Kulusevski his return to the pitch for Tottenham, but it will be undoubtedly be an emotional moment for him.

It has been a long battle for the Swede, and there may still be problems to overcome.

"After 477 days I came back to full team training," Kulusevski wrote on Instagram at the start of the month.

"Everything is impossible until is not. Want to see a miracle? Be one. See u soon."

Scottish media react as Tottenham star Andy Robertson 'man possessed' on landmark night - Yahoo
Description

Tottenham Hotspur full-back Andy Robertson made history for Scotland against North Macedonia.

Saturday night saw Robertson become only the second ever Scotland player to reach 100 caps.

The only other player to do that for Scotland is of course Celtic and Liverpool legend, Kenny Dalglish.

Robertson has enjoyed a hugely impressive start to life as a Tottenham player after joining on a free from Liverpool in the summer.

He's been silencing a lot of his doubters regarding his ability to still be a top starting left-back in the Premier League at this stage of his career.

And his performance for the Tartan Army in Skopje will delight Roberto De Zerbi even more.

What did Scottish media say about Andy Robertson's display vs North Macedonia?

Scotland ran out 2-0 winners over North Macedonia in the Nations League on Saturday night.

Kieron Bowie and John McGinn scored the goals to help Sebastien Pocognoli's side to their first win of the group stages.

Scottish media were all in unison with their praise over Robertson's display too.

The Scotsman wrote: "A landmark game for the captain as he won his 100th cap.

"He was mightily impressive until the 83rd minute when a short pass put McKenna in trouble, otherwise his mark would be higher.

"Rampaged up the left flank and looked in the mood to score, with three efforts raining down on Dimitrievski. A night to remember for a Scotland legend. Eight."

The National said: "A performance befitting of becoming Scotland's second-ever centurion.

"Showed his intent with four strikes in the first half as he blitzed forward and caused North Macedonia problem after problem. Rarely challenged defensively, meaning he had the freedom to charge forward and do his best work in the opposition half.

"A professional display, especially after Scotland reduced to ten, in the words of James McFadden, 'A man possessed'. Eight."

Finally, the Scottish Sun wrote: "Joined King Kenny as Scotland centurion.

"Close to bagging fifth Scotland goal on big night after just four minutes but fierce strike was tipped over. Went close again twice in fittingly polished display…Eight."

So, just how good were Robertson's underlying numbers from the win over North Macedonia?

Why Roberto De Zerbi will have Andrew Robertson frustration as Scottish media all say the same thing Where Robertson led all Scotland players vs North Macedonia

Despite being 32, Robertson is proving for both club and country that he's still got plenty left in the tank to offer.

Starting at left wing-back for Scotland on Saturday, he skippered the side to a big win, and his underlying numbers paint a clear picture of how good he was.

Per FotMob, no player in a Scotland shirt made more clearances than Robertson's six in the game.

Meanwhile, he also took four shots on goal, played five passes into the final third, completed three accurate long balls and attempted three crosses.

He also made six recoveries, two interceptions, one tackle, won two ground duels and won his only aerial duel as well.

It was the kind of display that will only further cement his place atop Tottenham's left-back pecking order over Destiny Udogie.

Tottenham's big transfer decision over Luca Williams-Barnett after squad promotion

Tottenham's big transfer decision over Luca Williams-Barnett after squad promotion - Yahoo
Description

Tottenham youngster Luca Williams-Barnett took another step forward in his development earlier this week when he was included in the club's first-team squad photo.

Having travelled on the club's pre-season tour Down Under over the summer, Williams-Barnett is now officially part of Roberto De Zerbi's first-team squad.

Described by the Spurs boss as "a potential top player", the electric young winger is pushing for further first-team involvement after making his senior debut under Thomas Frank last season.

De Zerbi has been reluctant to use Spurs' academy players so far and, surprisingly, left Williams-Barnett at home as his side crashed out of the Carabao Cup away to Liverpool last month.

However, with Spurs struggling for goals and attacking impetus, Williams-Barnett could get his chance as De Zerbi looks for different solutions going forward.

Versatile, direct and with an eye for goal, the 18-year-old looks ready for first-team football, even if De Zerbi is cautious about throwing him into a team that currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table.

"It is a different job to manage the young, young player, especially when this young player is a potential top player, because you can't put them in the bad condition or bad situation, but also you can't forget them," De Zerbi said before the international break.

"I didn't forget about Luca, like Malachi [Hardy, young defender], but we have to find the right moment."

De Zerbi has a predicament on his hands. Several key attacking players are still working their way back to full fitness, while opportunities are scarce with Spurs not in Europe and now out of the Carabao Cup.

Dejan Kulusevski is back in training and closing in on a return to action after nearly a year and a half on the sidelines, while Chelsea loanee Mykhailo Mudryk is expected back from an ankle injury in the next three to five weeks.

Williams-Barnett is therefore set to move further down the pecking order, and while the teenager is clearly on De Zerbi's radar, a loan move could suit all parties when the January transfer window opens.

De Zerbi has been at pains to insist that Spurs' academy players are not far from his thinking, but ultimately the club's dire league position means he is reluctant to expose the likes of Williams-Barnett and Hardy.

A first-team promotion is vindication of Williams-Barnett's progress over the last 12 months. He produced 16 goals and eight assists in 20 appearances for Spurs' youth teams last season.

The next move is for him to get consistent senior minutes under his belt. But it seems unlikely he will get that at Spurs, given the club's current plight.

Spurs have struggled to manage the careers of some of their brightest young academy players in recent years. Williams-Barnett, though, is too good to let slip through the net.

Legal Expert backs Tottenham to make 'massive claim' against Manchester City as floodgates open - Yahoo
Description

Tottenham could seek a sizeable compensation package from Manchester City for a loss in revenue, a legal expert has told Tottenham News.

Things may be a mess on the pitch right now in N17, but at the Etihad Stadium it is all kicking off in the boardroom.

The whole footballing world now knows that the Citizens have been found guilty of 114 charges related to serious breaches of financial rules in the Premier League.

The Premier League have reported that City inflated their own revenue by over £900million across an nine-year period between 2009 and 2018.

A sanction is yet to be revealed, while various clubs are said to be gearing up for a legal battle for compensation.

The years in question coincide with a mixed period at White Hart Lane that could see Tottenham lead major claims against Man City.

How Manchester City's financial breaches have impacted Tottenham

Casting our minds back to the end of the 2008/09 season, the Lilywhites had just finished eighth in the Premier League.

They were just two points off a Europa League finish as Fulham snatched the last place.

Man City finished 10th, two places behind Spurs.

The following year Tottenham snatched Champions League football away from the Etihad as Peter Crouch scored an iconic winner to seal a top four finish.

From then on, the Citizens became a force in English football, finishing above the North Londoners in the following five seasons.

In four of those, Spurs missed out on Champions League qualification by just one place, while the 2011/12 season saw Chelsea steal their position among Europe's elite due to winning the tournament in Munich.

That all contributed to lower Premier League prize money and a failure to land the lucrative revenue that Champions League football brings.

It is that which looks to be the basis for a compensation claim against the Sky Blues in the near future.

How much compensation Tottenham will claim from Manchester City revealed Tottenham backed to make sizable claim against Manchester City

The loss in prize money and additional revenue alone is enough to spark conversation in N17.

That isn't even bringing into account that without signing Kyle Walker from Spurs, things may have not worked out so well at the Etihad.

Ignoring that, Senior Associate at Knights, Daniel Baker believes Tottenham have grounds for a major claim.

The legal expert has represented elite-level coaches, athletes, clubs and organisations within football, including cases within the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Baker said: "Every Premier League place lost or gained is worth between £2m and £3m, so you've got potentially every club below them able to prove that if it wasn't for Man City's alleged cheating that they would have been financially better off.

"It'll be a massive compensation claim for Tottenham. Those sorts of cases will be way more complex and the value of the compensation will be higher. It will be worth their while because of the loss of Europe and places because they are expensive. It's crazy.

"That's not even talking about player claims because of their contracts with potential incentives for qualifying for Europe in a season. If Manchester City have taken a place ahead of them, they could look to bring a claim against City on that basis.

"That could be trickier as there's no precedent for it, but the floodgates are open and we're in a brave new world wondering what's ahead of us."

The whole Premier League case against Man City has opened a can of worms and it looks set to have a direct impact in North London.

Richarlison shares Everton compilation after summer transfer controversy

Richarlison shares Everton compilation after summer transfer controversy - Yahoo
Description

Richarlison was one of the stories of the summer at Everton.

The drama hasn't finished there at Tottenham, despite him failing to secure a move away from North London before the deadline.

Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed his decision to exile the striker from his squads, with the fallout still ongoing.

Richarlison took his case to FIFA to try and get out of his contract, but has since been involved in Tottenham's squad photo.

So, it was a surprise when he turned down a return to Everton.

Admitting that he wanted his career to go a different way, he also cost Spurs the chance to sign Iliman Ndiaye.

Yet, he still clearly thinks about Everton daily.

What has Richarlison done now?

It's a long time since the Brazilian was firing in goals at Goodison Park.

After a decent spell at Spurs, he has been somewhat left behind despite their struggles and Dominic Solanke being no better.

He certainly hasn't let that go.

Sharing on his personal Instagram story on Thursday, Richarlison reposted a compilation of his goals while at Everton.

From a sensational solo goal against Brighton, to an overhead kick and another strike at Anfield for the Toffees, he covered all bases.

While not wanting to return, he'll never forget.

What Richarlison will think about Everton transfer collapse after latest outburst at Tottenham What was the story behind Richarlison's Everton snub?

It was a very quick transfer story, one that came out of nowhere.

Ndiaye possibly going to Spurs was the main headline, but the Brazilian going the other way felt like fate.

Instead, Richarlison rejected Everton as he didn't see his future in England and the Premier League.

He would have cost £35million in the end, which was similar to the fee initially agreed for Folarin Balogun later in the window.

That also collapsed, leaving the Toffees with only Thierno Barry as a senior striker until at least January.

David Moyes wasn't happy after that, and it only goes to show that better work is needed by the Friedkins and Angus Kinnear.

Moyes has dragged Everton back away from danger and has nothing to show for it, and a brand new striker would be the perfect gift in January.

Shame that it won't be Richarlison.
