Richarlison shares Everton compilation after summer transfer controversy - Yahoo
Description

Richarlison was one of the stories of the summer at Everton.

The drama hasn't finished there at Tottenham, despite him failing to secure a move away from North London before the deadline.

Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed his decision to exile the striker from his squads, with the fallout still ongoing.

Richarlison took his case to FIFA to try and get out of his contract, but has since been involved in Tottenham's squad photo.

So, it was a surprise when he turned down a return to Everton.

Admitting that he wanted his career to go a different way, he also cost Spurs the chance to sign Iliman Ndiaye.

Yet, he still clearly thinks about Everton daily.

What has Richarlison done now?

It's a long time since the Brazilian was firing in goals at Goodison Park.

After a decent spell at Spurs, he has been somewhat left behind despite their struggles and Dominic Solanke being no better.

He certainly hasn't let that go.

Sharing on his personal Instagram story on Thursday, Richarlison reposted a compilation of his goals while at Everton.

From a sensational solo goal against Brighton, to an overhead kick and another strike at Anfield for the Toffees, he covered all bases.

While not wanting to return, he'll never forget.

What Richarlison will think about Everton transfer collapse after latest outburst at Tottenham What was the story behind Richarlison's Everton snub?

It was a very quick transfer story, one that came out of nowhere.

Ndiaye possibly going to Spurs was the main headline, but the Brazilian going the other way felt like fate.

Instead, Richarlison rejected Everton as he didn't see his future in England and the Premier League.

He would have cost £35million in the end, which was similar to the fee initially agreed for Folarin Balogun later in the window.

That also collapsed, leaving the Toffees with only Thierno Barry as a senior striker until at least January.

David Moyes wasn't happy after that, and it only goes to show that better work is needed by the Friedkins and Angus Kinnear.

Moyes has dragged Everton back away from danger and has nothing to show for it, and a brand new striker would be the perfect gift in January.

Shame that it won't be Richarlison.

Luca Williams-Barnett looks potentially set for expanded first-team involvement at Tottenham this season after being included in the club's official squad photo.

The 18-year-old was notable as being the only academy talent featured in Spurs' squad picture for the 2026/27 campaign, which was released on Thursday (October 1).

Williams-Barnett is widely considered as one of the most promising young talents in English football and has shone for Tottenham at Under-18 and U21 level, making his senior debut under former boss Thomas Frank aged 16 with a late cameo off the bench during last season's 3-0 win over Doncaster in the Carabao Cup.

Having also impressed current head coach Roberto De Zerbi during pre-season, he appeared again for the first team back in August, when he was sent on as a substitute for the final 12 minutes of the 5-1 Carabao Cup rout of London rivals Charlton.

Williams-Barnett also made the Spurs bench for the first game of the new Premier League season away at Brentford, while he was named as a substitute on a further 11 occasions across all competitions last term.

He was a surprise absentee from the matchday squad for the 3-1 defeat at Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, playing for the U21s instead as he scored off the bench against Dinamo Zagreb in the Premier League International Cup.

Fans have called for Williams-Barnett to be given more first-team minutes under De Zerbi amid Tottenham's attacking struggles this season, with their barren streak in the league only ended against Aston Villa last time out in a game they lost 3-2 to sink to the foot of the table with no wins so far.

That pressure only increased further after the player scored a fantastic individual goal for England's U19s in a friendly against Norway on Tuesday.

De Zerbi admitted earlier this month that he did have to consider increased senior involvement for Williams-Barnett, though stressed that he did not want to compromise his development by throwing him into a difficult situation.

"Yes, I have a big consideration because he is a good player and he is a potential top player. We have to understand when is the best situation for him and for the team also," the Italian said before the defeat by Villa.

"It is a different job to manage the young, young player, especially when this young player is a potential top player, because you can't put them in the bad condition or bad situation, but also you can't forget of them.

"I didn't forget about Luca, like Malachi [Hardy, young defender], but we have to find the right moment."

Another notable headline from Tottenham's official squad photo was the inclusion of Richarlison, who remains at the club after being unable to agree an exit during the summer transfer window.

Tottenham flop Omar Marmoush maxes out the scoring as Egyptian media react to latest display - Yahoo
Description

Tottenham Hotspur finally saw what Omar Marmoush can do as Egypt faced South Sudan on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old has been pretty poor since coming through the doors in North London.

In his four starts, he has failed to truly do anything of note as Spurs continue to go without a win in the Premier League.

The international break arguably came at a good time after a shocking start for Roberto De Zerbi and Co.

That appears to be the case for the Manchester City loanee as he looks to get back to his best.

Marmoush did exactly that as he certainly caught the eye of the local media against South Sudan.

What has been said about Omar Marmoush vs South Sudan?

It hasn't been easy for the versatile forward to adapt to life in N17.

That has been the case for plenty of the new signings as they struggle to live up to the expectations surrounding them.

Jetting out to feature for his nation has probably taken a weight off the Egyptian's shoulders.

Marmoush showcased what he can do against South Sudan as he bagged a brace in a 5-0 win.

When looking to rate his performance, there was a general opinion of perfection from local media.

Almasryalyoum rated his performance a 10/10, one which was echoed by fellow local outlet WinWin.

The latter wrote: "So the Pharaohs players concluded the South Sudan match with varying ratings, the most prominent of which was the full mark for Omar Marmoush after his brace against the opponent."

That will be music to everyone's ears at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as we can now delve into his performance.

Omar Marmoush among nine Tottenham players who have a point to prove during the international break The numbers behind Tottenham flop Marmoush vs South Sudan

Obviously, he wasn't facing the strongest of opposition, but you can only beat what's in front of you.

Marmoush took that literally and delivered an excellent showcase.

That is summed up by his two goals and is only made better by the fact he completed a staggering eight dribbles.

He wasn't dispossessed on any occasion and won nine duels to make his physicality felt.

Throw that in with a 100 per cent long ball accuracy and you have a top performance from the Egyptian.

Tottenham will now be hoping this was the boost he needed to see him finally find some form in North London.

Why Tottenham fans may have misunderstood James Maddison's late-season return

Why Tottenham fans may have misunderstood James Maddison's late-season return - Yahoo
Description

James Maddison was not fully fit when he returned for Tottenham last season.

Spurs expert John Wenham believes that the 29-year-old now has the platform to finally get back to speed.

Maddison missed 375 days of action with a knee injury, but returned against Leeds in May for a five-minute cameo.

He then featured for 21 minutes against Chelsea before an eight minute showing against Everton on the final day of the 2025-26 campaign.

He was expected to feature heavily in the Lilywhites' pre-season campaign, but that was not the case.

Maddison has played four times so far this season, with three appearances coming in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup.

What did Tottenham fans not understand about Maddison's comeback last season?

Wenham, who owns the popular Lilywhite Rose account was surprised by what has emerged about the attacking midfielder.

He revealed the desperation behind his return to action, and why supporters, including himself, may have misunderstood the situation.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: "Yes [the break will be key].

"Basically what's transpired is, I thought by him having those couple of cameos at the end of last season, that he'd have a full pre-season this time round and then he'd be ready to go for match week one.

"But that hasn't happened at all, it has come out that effectively those cameos, we were just absolutely shot and desperate for anything to lift us towards the end of last season.

"He was coming on when he wasn't fully fit whatsoever, giving those cameos to try and lift the fans or lift the squad, and he's still finding his way back to fitness now."

Why Tottenham may be in denial about James Maddison amid latest injury recurrence What did Maddison say about his long-term injury?

Maddison revealed what actually happened with his injury after his comeback against Leeds.

He was initially misdiagnosed, as he was told that he did not need surgery on the knee issue that he suffered in the Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt in May 2025.

He was then forced to undergo surgery after exacerbating the injury in the pre-season friendly with Newcastle United in South Korea last summer.

Speaking after the clash with Daniel Farke's side at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he said: ""In my head, it goes back to the Europa League semi-final here when I got injured here because I did a partial ACL tear against Bodo/Glimt.

"I was told by the [external] specialist it wouldn't need surgery and rehab. Then obviously it wasn't strong, it didn't recover properly, and I needed the full surgery, which is what happened in South Korea."

Maddison then suffered a setback of a different kind earlier this season, when he fractured his shoulder against Brentford on the opening day.

Hopefully, he can now put his nightmare behind him and get back to his best form, with two weeks of training in the international break.

Rivals on alert! Liverpool and Manchester United keep close eye on Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven

Rivals on alert! Liverpool and Manchester United keep close eye on Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven - Yahoo
Description

PL giants tracking Spurs speedster

Van de Ven has become a primary subject of interest for both Liverpool and Manchester United, with both clubs currently at what is described as the "close monitoring" stage of their scouting process, according to Caught offside.

Since his arrival from Wolfsburg in 2023, the 25-year-old has established himself as a cornerstone of the Tottenham backline, impressing scouts with his unique blend of recovery pace and technical proficiency on his favored left side.

For a modern elite side, finding a left-footed central defender capable of covering large spaces is a priority, making the Dutchman a standout candidate for clubs looking to evolve their defensive structures over the coming seasons.

Liverpool and Man United circle

For the Reds, the interest is framed by a clear need for succession planning at the heart of their defense. With Virgil van Dijk now 35 and seeing his match minutes managed more carefully, the recruitment staff at Anfield view Van de Ven as a potential heir to his international teammate. The club has reportedly admired the player for a significant period, identifying him as one of the few individuals with the physical attributes required to operate in their high-intensity system.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are also keeping a watchful eye on the situation as they continue assessing their own centre-back options. His age, Premier League experience and ability to play on the left side of defence would all appeal to a club still shaping its long-term defensive core.

Spurs hold all the cards in negotiations

While interest from the North West is growing, any potential suitors face a daunting task in prying the defender away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs find themselves in an exceptionally strong negotiating position following a significant contract update earlier this season. In August, the club successfully tied Van de Ven down to a new long-term deal that reportedly extends his stay until 2031. This long-term commitment was a major boost for the club.

The player himself has also expressed total commitment to the project in North London, further complicating any potential move for the interested rivals. Discussing his decision to sign a new deal, Van de Ven stated: "It's a special moment to sign a new deal and a proud moment for me and my family. I've always loved Spurs, from the first day I stepped in here. I love the Club, I love the fans and I've developed really well here."

De Zerbi hails "European elite" defender

The importance of Van de Ven to the Tottenham project cannot be overstated, particularly under the guidance of Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian manager has been vocal about the qualities the Dutchman brings to his tactical setup, viewing him as an indispensable part of his plans for the future.

De Zerbi was full of praise when the contract extension was finalised, remarking: "Micky is one of the best centre-backs in Europe and an important player for us. He has the qualities, mentality and ambition that we want at Tottenham Hotspur, and I am very happy that he has decided to continue his journey with the Club. We are building something strong here, and players like Micky are an important part of that future. His decision to sign a new contract shows his belief in what we are creating together."

Sandro Tonali dubbed 'a fish out of water' for Italy as Tottenham star exposed

Sandro Tonali dubbed 'a fish out of water' for Italy as Tottenham star exposed - Yahoo
Description

Sandro Tonali's poor Tottenham Hotspur form appears to have carried over into his national team.

The Italian moved to Spurs from Newcastle United in the summer for a whopping fee of £100million, signing a bumper long-term contract.

He was joined by Mateus Fernandes, as both midfielders looked set to offer Roberto De Zerbi top-class quality in the middle of the park.

However, Tonali has had mixed form for the Lilywhites, and so far doesn't look like the £100m player that they were promised.

That's not to say he won't turn things around, as the 26-year-old showed signs of a world-class player at times with Newcastle.

Tonali was called up to Italy's squad for their UEFA Nations League matches over the international break, but local media were not happy with his display against Belgium on Friday.

Sandro Tonali 'confusion' explained after 'fish out of water' Italy display

Tonali averages a 6.92 FotMob rating after his first five Premier League matches for Tottenham, which is below par for expectations considering the money that was spent to bring him to N17.

The Italy international didn't get the best score after a 2-0 defeat to Belgium either, as his poor performance resulted in a 6.5 rating.

He won just one ground duel out of an attempted two, making zero aerial duel attempts in the match.

He had a 50 per cent crossing accuracy and made just five passes into the final third.

Tonali had 62 touches of the ball and made 48 passes in total, but did not create a single chance for the Azzurri, which sums up Spurs' current issues in front of goal.

Sky Sports Italy graded Tonali a 5/10 and wrote: "He enters, body and soul, in the full confusion of the blue team. He goes haywire together with the midfield in the first half dominated by Belgium.

"He is not among the best when Italy gives signs of awakening in the second half."

Corriere dello Sport also gave the Spurs man a 5/10 rating, writing: "He makes wood, more than finishing and brushing," which suggests he doesn't do much with the ball.

Finally, Tuttosport gave him an improved 5.5/10 score, but was perhaps the most brutal of all the Italian outlets.

They wrote: "As a midfielder, he looks like a fish out of water: many technical errors for a player of his level."

Sandro Tonali one of four dismal 2/10s, no one above 5/10 - Every Tottenham summer transfer ranked How Tottenham Tonali stacks up vs Newcastle Tonali

Tonali will surely come good at some point, as Tottenham's team of fresh faces continue to find their feet.

But the midfielder is currently underperforming in several areas when comparing his stats for Newcastle last season in the Premier League

He currently creates an average of 0.84 chances per 90 compared to 1.13 last term, despite having 4.4 more touches per game this season.

Tonali made 1.10 interceptions per 90 for the Magpies, but currently only makes 0.84 for the Lilywhites.

He was dispossessed 0.60 times per game for Newcastle, but more than doubles that average for Spurs already.

It's clear that he is currently lacking in confidence, and he needs to find a way out soon.

Tottenham's plan for Blake Irow comes clear as new deal announced for N17 gem

Tottenham's plan for Blake Irow comes clear as new deal announced for N17 gem - Yahoo
Description

Blake Irow has been impressing at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lilywhites have built a reputation for producing some great talents in N17 in recent years.

The likes of Will Lankshear, Mikey Moore and Alfie Devine have all come through the ranks at Hotspur Way, and all look set to have successful careers.

There are other youngsters still on Spurs' books like Luca Williams-Barnett, Tyrese Hall and Callum Olusesi, who could all offer Roberto De Zerbi something in the future.

The Lilywhites have particularly struggled in the goalkeeping department in recent years, but may have a future star waiting in the wings to solve the issue in the long term.

Irow is one player at Tottenham who appears destined for success, as his recent development has earned him a new deal.

What Tottenham's plan for Blake Irow could be amid new announcement

Tottenham's youth academy announced on Wednesday that young goalkeeper Irow, brother of Oliver Irow, has signed a new deal with the club.

The 17-year-old impressed while representing Spurs' U18s last term, and has already played for England at the U16s level.

He played 720 minutes for the U18s in the Premier League 2 last term, keeping a clean sheet in 50 per cent of the games he played.

The plan may very well be for the teenager to be involved in first-team training moving forward, and the timing of the announcement is the most important aspect.

De Zerbi is known for developing youngsters, and could use the international break to assess whether Blake is ready to compete in Tottenham's first-team training.

Irow could now play understudy to Anton Kinsky in first-team training, with the latter De Zerbi's clear number one goalkeeper.

Irow 'ready for breakthrough season at Tottenham' as fresh training image shared The worrying similarities with Antonin Kinsky and Guglielmo Vicario

Guglielmo Vicario's Tottenham departure was needed for all parties this summer, as the Italian continued to prove that he was not at the level needed to thrive in the Premier League.

But Kinsky has so far shown that he is no better than Vicario.

As per FotMob data, Kinsky's average rating in the Premier League this season stands at 6.49, compared to Vicario's 6.68 from last term.

His save percentage is also 2 per cent worse than the former Spurs keeper, and his long ball accuracy is also 2 per cent lower.

That said, there is still a potential that the 23-year-old can improve under De Zerbi, who worked wonders with Brighton's goalkeeping department.

Kinsky could prove to be an important player for Spurs with time, and Irow would benefit by learning alongside the shot-stopper.

Tottenham told to approach De Zerbi replacement who 'wouldn't cost a compensation fee'

Tottenham told to approach De Zerbi replacement who 'wouldn't cost a compensation fee' - Yahoo
Description

Tottenham Hotspur would surely have former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe on their list if they were to sack Roberto De Zerbi.

That is the opinion of former senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The 47-year-old is under huge pressure in North London after his side failed to win any of their opening five Premier League games.

Tottenham go into the international break at the bottom of the league, after they were beaten 3-2 by Aston Villa on Saturday.

De Zerbi is under contract until 2031 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having taken over from Igor Tudor in March and managing to keep his team in the top flight.

Tottenham backed the Italian with over £400million in new arrivals in the summer transfer window, and will not rush into a decision.

Eddie Howe 'fell out of favour' with the Newcastle board

Howe was manager of Newcastle for nearly five years, stepping down this summer after a difficult season and a turbulent transfer window.

The Magpies transformed under his watch, going from a relegation battle to winning the Carabao Cup last year and multiple qualifications for the Champions League.

It was a similar story for the Englishman at Bournemouth, who he took from League Two to the Premier League over the course of two stints and around 10 years in charge.

"You look at Eddie Howe, he's available," King told Football Insider. He continued: "Howe certainly has been managing for a good few years now and has produced results from his days at Bournemouth.

"He went to Newcastle, won the league cup and then seemed to fall out of favour with the board. I think his main ally on the board was Amanda Staveley.

"The moment she became not involved with the football so much, or the football club, Eddie seemed to lose his main ally there. Again, football's always based on results and he had a little bit of a sticky patch and now they've moved him on.

"He's not a bad manager to be available and he certainly wouldn't cost a compensation fee. It's been a long time since they've had an English manager."

Tottenham next manager: Eddie Howe odds slashed after latest Who was Tottenham's last English manager?

Ryan Mason was Tottenham's last English manager, serving as an interim on two occasions following the sackings of Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.

Their last permanent English manager was Tim Sherwood, who took charge for around half a season between 2013 and 2014.

The former Tottenham player had good moments in charge but ultimately disappointed and was replaced by Mauricio Pochettino.

Harry Redknapp came before him, taking over in 2008 and leading the North London club to the top four twice in three seasons.

Gary Lineker fears for Roberto De Zerbi after 'dreadful' Tottenham scenes

Gary Lineker fears for Roberto De Zerbi after 'dreadful' Tottenham scenes - Yahoo
Description

Roberto De Zerbi is coming under increasing levels of scrutiny at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Italian was supposed to be leading Spurs into a new era this season.

A massive summer spend felt as if it was going to lead to a major turnaround after struggles in recent seasons.

Things haven't worked out that way as the Lilywhites are yet to win or even score in the Premier League.

There has been very little positive to say about the N17 outfit throughout this run.

Gary Lineker can't quite believe how bad Tottenham have been and now fears for De Zerbi's future.

What has Gary Lineker said about Roberto De Zerbi?

The Carabao Cup looked to be the distraction that the North Londoners needed in midweek.

After the struggles of the league, a trip to face Liverpool should have been something to be positive about.

Instead, the Lilywhites fell to a 3-1 defeat against a rotated Reds side that featured five players under the age of 22.

That was far from a good look, even with Conor Gallagher getting on the scoresheet.

Lineker now fears for De Zerbi should he not get back on the winning trail immediately.

Speaking on Friday's episode of Stick to Football, he said: "They've had a dreadful start, haven't they? Yes, they've got two draws, but both goalless. He needs to turn things around pretty quickly."

That was echoed by Alan Shearer, who looked ahead to Saturday's all-important meeting with Aston Villa.

The Newcastle legend added: "Can you imagine having defeat on the weekend going into the international break with three weeks off, off the back of that start? That's why they desperately need a win at the weekend."

Everything that the ex-England internationals have said is spot on, but just how bad has it been for De Zerbi?

Roberto De Zerbi told what needs to happen to avoid Tottenham sack ahead of crucial Everton clash What is De Zerbi's record at Tottenham?

The 47-year-old had once looked to be a coup of a pick-up given where Spurs were in the table.

It doesn't necessarily look like that now.

Having now managed 13 games on Hotspur Way, his record is far from good enough.

Just four victories are outweighed by four draws and five defeats, with a win rate of 31 per cent, summing everything up.

An average of 1.2 points-per-game makes his Tottenham stint the worst of his last five jobs, stretching back to 2018.

Everything was summed up by his Lilywhites side clocking up 56 per cent possession, 2.24 expected goals and four big chances in the defeat against Liverpool.

Despite dominating in the stats, his side fell to yet another defeat.

If De Zerbi can't get a season first against Aston Villa, it could be a long international break for the Italian.

If he keeps his job, that is.
