Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur made sizeable investments in this summer’s transfer window but are lacking a winger who can score consistent goals for them, with a battle between the duo likely to ensue in 2026.
According to TBR Football, the Premier League giants are interested in signing Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, who has scored four goals and provided two assists already this season, and has been a talismanic figure for the Cherries.
His contract at the Vitality Stadium is valid until June 2030, so Bournemouth will slap him with a significant price tag in order to drive away suitors in the 25-year-old although it remains to be seen how much longer they can retain him for.
Semenyo has been one of the Premier League’s most exciting wingers in the last couple of seasons with the Ghanaian international capable of playing on either flank and on both sides of the midfield as well.
Man Utd could trump Spurs for Semenyo
If Antoine Semenyo is planning on switching pastures next year, Manchester United are the likelier side between themselves and Tottenham Hotspur to secure a deal for the Bournemouth forward.
With the likes of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford no longer in the club’s plans for the future, they could make a grand signing in the final third if they are able to part company with both the Englishmen on a permanent basis next year.
Tottenham Hotspur might not enter into a bidding war with Man United as they already have two starting wingers in Mohammad Kudus and Xavi Simons, who were acquired this summer and have made decent starts to their careers at the club.
United, though on a downward spiral for the last year or so, have proven that they continue to have a strong allure, and might be able to get a deal done for Antoine Semenyo, especially if Andoni Iraola is also picked as a replacement for Ruben Amorim.
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy left the club last month amidst takeover talks, which have since intensified with an American consortium led by Brooklyn Earick thought to be in the driving seat to acquire a stake in the club.
On those lines, journalist Francois Gallardo has reported that the potential newcomers in Tottenham’s ownership structure are planning a ‘spectacular’ squad rebuild in 2026, and are eyeing Chelsea star Cole Palmer and Real Madrid ace Vinicius Junior.
Vinicius is one of the best players in the world, a two-time Champions League winner with Los Blancos, and is valued at £148 million on Transfermarkt with the lion’s share of his career, including his prime, still ahead of the 25-year-old.
Cole Palmer, on the other hand, is still only 23 but has three Premier League titles, a Champions League and a Club World Cup to his name with a valuation of approximately £105 million on Transfermarkt following an injury-ridden start to the season.
Difficult transfers but Vinicius worth keeping tabs on
Given their recent barren run at winning silverware, which has seen them win just the Europa League in the last 15 years, Tottenham Hotspur are admittedly not the most attractive destinations for the likes of Cole Palmer or Vinicius Junior.
Palmer, considering that he is a Chelsea player, might be a distant dream for the Lilywhites’ prospective owners and with a contract valid until 2033, the Blues will demand a hefty fee from arguably their best player.
Having said that, Vinicius might be more acquirable given that his contract with Madrid expires in 2027 and no major inroads have been made regarding a renewal, although with competition from elsewhere, he would not be an easy purchase either.
Regardless, the chief responsibility on Spurs’ new chairman and potential owners would be to sign players in midfield and possibly a winger or two, alongside building a more stable structure than there was under Daniel Levy.
Therefore, superstar signings, especially those of Vinicius’ and Palmer’s calibre, might have to wait for longer for Tottenham.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur made a number of quality offensive signings in the summer, and it is fair to say that most of their acquisitions are delivering with Joao Pedro and Mohammad Kudus standing out for each of them.
In spite of decent starts to the Premier League, the London rivals have not ruled out making further attacking reinforcements next year with a La Liga talent said to be on their radar heading into the January transfer window.
Fichajes has reported that Chelsea and Tottenham are both keen on signing Levante striker Karl Etta Eyong, who has made a positive start to life with the Spanish outfit having moved from Villarreal at the end of August.
With four goals and three assists in seven league appearances, the Cameroonian U23 international has earned a positive impression, therefore being linked with a transfer to the Premier League within weeks of securing a swoop to Levante.
Chelsea project more attractive for Etta Eyong
Karl Etta Eyong is one of La Liga’s most physically astute strikers with intelligent positioning, pace, dribbling and potent finishing skills. Moreover, in addition to being a centre forward, the 21-year-old is also a handy winger.
Having said that, Chelsea’s project is likelier to attract him more than Tottenham Hotspur’s given that the Blues are already developing a number of younger players and have used fellow club Strasbourg as a hub to loan and aid growth of youngsters.
Although his numbers in La Liga create a convincing picture, it is difficult to imagine Etta Eyong having regular game time immediately at a bigger club where he will be competing with more experienced forwards.
The player’s contract with Levante is valid until 2029, so it will be interesting to see if the Valencia-based side is prepared to let go of him next year or whether they continue to build a team around him in order to avoid relegation from La Liga.
Tottenham Hotspur have made a positive start to life under Thomas Frank in the Premier League, as they sit fourth in the standings six matches into the campaign and have played a generally good brand of football on the pitch as well.
Spurs had a fairly productive transfer window, thanks to making some crucial signings in the final days of the summer, but they did miss out on signing an out-and-out winger as interest in Manchester City forward Savinho failed to materialise.
He has just renewed his contract at the Etihad Stadium but according to Caught Offside, Tottenham Hotspur still remain keen in Savinho’s services, and have not ruled out making a January approach for the Brazilian international.
Next few months crucial for Savinho’s future
Manchester City renewing Savinho’s contract is a statement of intent that they believe the South American is worthy of a place in their long-term project but his recent involvement in matches suggests otherwise.
The 21-year-old has started in only one of their last three Premier League games, and also came off the bench in their Champions League opener against Napoli. In all competitions this season, he has played a measly 182 minutes of football.
With the World Cup fast approaching, Savinho would want to prove his credentials to Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti and for that to happen, it is vital that he plays regularly, so a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in the winter remains a strong possibility.
Given the lesser competition for places, Savinho would have more regular game time with the Londoners and potentially featuring in a system built around him would help the winger in playing at the top of his game.
Arsenal are in a battle with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Real Madrid attacking midfielder Arda Güler, according to Fichajes.
Following an impressive debut season in Spain that saw him notch eight goal contributions in La Liga, the youngster has kicked on impressively this term, registering three goals and three assists in his first seven outings.
Under new boss Xabi Alonso, Güler has quickly earned trust and has established himself as a first team regular. His form has caught the eye of teams here in the Premier League with reports suggesting two London giants are circling.
This is according to Fichajes, who claims that Arsenal and Tottenham have set their sights on the Turkish international and are now plotting a swoop to sign Güler next year.
For Arsenal, the report reveals that the Gunners held talks with Madrid and Güler’s entourage to understand the possibility and conditions of his possible transfer to the Emirates Stadium.
On the other hand, Tottenham view the Turkish midfielder’s qualities as the perfect fit to improve the team’s attacking third and exploit spaces, according to the report.
However, both London clubs still face competition, as Fichajes reports that Premier League side Newcastle United have also expressed interest in the 20-year-old to add creativity to their midfield ranks.
Guler has ‘exceptional qualities’
Güler still has four years left on his contract at the Santiago Bernabéu, so it’s no surprise Madrid have placed a high valuation on the youngster, with the report adding that the Spanish giants value him at around £131m amid interest from Premier League clubs.
Described as a player with ‘exceptional qualities’ by former Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho, the Turkey international excels at creating openings for teammates, boasts a sharp passing range, and is notably effective at regaining possession.
Güler is comfortable playing through the middle as an attacking midfielder or drifting out wide, offering both creativity and a goal threat. Despite still being in the early stages of his career, he has already proven he can compete at the very highest level, having won the La Liga title, the Super Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.
With Madrid placing a steep £131m valuation on the youngster, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal and Tottenham negotiate a favourable fee, include a player in the deal, or move on to more affordable targets.
