Tottenham Hotspur fans began the weekend in a state of shock after the club decided to sack Ange Postecoglou on Friday evening.

Postecoglou’s time at Tottenham has come to an end despite leading the club to their first trophy in 17 years in the Europa League last month.

Admittedly, Postecoglou did struggle in the Premier League, finishing 17th in the table after 22 defeats in the competition.

Harry Redknapp has now shared why Manchester United – or more specifically, a decision they made last season – may be partly to blame for Daniel Levy’s decision to sack Postecoglou.

The former Tottenham boss explained how Levy’s decision could have been inspired by Man United’s continued woes under Erik ten Hag despite their FA Cup win last season.

Man United ended up sacking Ten Hag midway through last season, and Ruben Amorim wasn’t able to save the club from their worst campaign in decades.

“Overall I suppose Daniel has looked at it and is thinking, ‘hang on’,” said Redknapp.

“Man United kept Ten Hag last year after winning a cup and they went out and bought some players under his leadership and then suddenly they sack him.

“Were they going to take that chance with Ange? Bringing four or five new players and suddenly things haven’t improved in the league by Christmas, then they have to sack him and are stuck with the players he brought in.

“He looks a good guy and I’d have liked to have seen him given more of a chance but it was never going to happen once Daniel didn’t come out and support him.”

Redknapp’s theory makes sense, and there’s no denying that Postecoglou’s second season in the Premier League was nothing short of atrocious.

In addition, Ten Hag is not the first manager to do so badly in the league after a trophy win that bought him more time.

Nine years ago, Leicester City won the Premier League title against all odds, but the following season, Claudio Ranieri struggled in the top flight.

Nine months on from their title win, Ranieri was sacked with the club one point above the drop zone with 13 matches left.

Craig Shakespeare’s appointment as caretaker proved a good decision, as he kept the Foxes up.

Meanwhile, Roberto Di Matteo won both the Champions League and the FA Cup as caretaker in 2012, but he couldn’t follow this up the following year.

The Italian was sacked not long before Chelsea became the first reigning Champions League holders to exit the tournament at the group stage.

Caretaker Rafael Benitez rallied the team round and got them into the Champions League, along with winning the Europa League after dropping down into the competition.

If Tottenham end up doing well in the Premier League and Champions League next season, then Levy’s decision will seem justified.

Who could be next in the Tottenham dugout?

Postecoglou has been the subject of many tributes – along with Porro, Graham Roberts has also praised Postecoglou.

Tottenham fans are especially gutted over Postecoglou’s sacking, as they felt he truly understood the club.

However, the deed is done, and Spurs will now need to look for a replacement.

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has revealed that Brentford’s Thomas Frank is the frontrunner to replace Postecoglou at Tottenham.

“I can confirm that talks have been ongoing with potential replacements for weeks,” Bailey said.

“And our information is that Brentford’s Thomas Frank has emerged as the leading contender in the last couple of weeks.

“As we reported, Daniel Levy has been impressed with Frank during conversations.”

However, Solomon is in no hurry to leave Tottenham, and TBR can confirm that he believes he can break his way back into the Spurs first team.

It remains to be seen whether Ange Postecoglou will remain in charge. It remains likely that he will depart, and that has given Solomon further confidence that he can impress a new boss.

Spurs’ hierarchy were ready to sanction Solomon’s sale, but they are willing, at this moment, to give him a chance in pre-season.

Bailey told TBR: “I am told that Solomon still thinks he can break into the first team at Tottenham. He has gained so much confidence from his spell at Leeds and now feels fully adapted to English football.

“He is a very interesting option, Spurs like him and are ready to let him prove himself during pre-season.”

Solomon had a fantastic season on loan at Leeds United.

After failing to play a game for Tottenham from the end of September 2023 until the following summer, there were doubts over whether he could deliver at Leeds.

Solomon also scored a 91st-minute winner in Leeds’ last game of the season against Plymouth.

That goal helped Farke’s side finish the campaign ahead of Burnley on goal difference and win the Championship title.

The Israel international joined Daniel Farke’s side on a season-long loan deal in August last year, and he became a fan favourite at Elland Road.

Manor Solomon will still have three years left on his Tottenham contract this summer.

The move to Leeds United on loan last summer changed everything for Solomon. He played 41 games for the Whites and was brilliant for them.

The expectation was that Tottenham would sell Solomon to Leeds or any other club this summer, but that stance may have changed.

The Sun claim now that Spurs are set to give Solomon another chance this summer.

The North Londoners want to bring him back to the first-team fold during pre-season with the intention of keeping him at the club for the 2025/26 campaign.

Leeds remain keen to sign Solomon, and there are other clubs interested too. But, his fate lies in Daniel Levy’s hands now.

When did Manor Solomon last play for Tottenham?

There is no doubt over Solomon’s talent.

The Israeli attacker is a terrific player. He is good on the ball, versatile and has shown that he is capable of creating and scoring goals.

But, Solomon’s Tottenham career never kicked off, and he only made six appearances for the club – the last of which came in September 2023 against Liverpool in the Premier League.

That was nearly two years ago, which is why it is a big surprise to hear that Spurs are keen to reintegrate him into the squad this summer.

Last month, TBR Football revealed that Paratici had agreed terms with Tottenham over a return move to North London. Meanwhile, Venkatesham arrived as CEO back in April.

Paratici was banned by FIFA for two and a half years, which forced him to resign as the sporting director of Spurs. But this summer, the Italian director can finally make his return to football.

Daniel Levy told Paratici he wanted him back at the North London club, and now, the 52-year-old is expected to start work again later this summer.

Fabio Paratici is already heavily involved at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are already being heavily influenced by the very popular Fabio Paratici, who Levy loves, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has been told.

Levy has a lot of trust in the Italian, given his previous stint at the club, and he has continued to have a strong say on everything Spurs do.

Crucially, the new CEO, Venkatesham, also shares the same opinion as Levy, and he is believed to have already forged a great relationship with Paratici.

Johan Lange is expected to remain at the club, despite the arrival of Paratici, although the Dane will be involved in a more commercial role, whilst Paratici focuses on the football.

Bailey told TBR Football: “It’s fair to say that Paratici’s fingerprints are all over anything Tottenham do. He (Levy) trusts him. Vinai (Venkatesham), the new CEO from Arsenal as well, gets on very well with Levy and Paratici. It’s almost like a Holy Trinity operating in the hierarchy now.

“Obviously, Lange is still there, but he’s quite commercial. Paratici is heavily involved in everything Spurs are doing and they love what he’s done before. He’s got brilliant contacts and they trust him.”

Who are Fabio Paratici’s best Tottenham signings?

Paratici was such a major success during his first spell in the capital, as he made several key signings along with appointing a manager like Antonio Conte.

Cristian Romero has to be his best addition to the football club with the Argentine having played such an important role in helping Spurs win the Europa League.

Dejan Kulusevski has also been another important addition with the Swede being arguably their best attacker this season.

Paratici’s contacts in Italy also helped him to land players like Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Tottenham Hotspur are going to have to look elsewhere for a new midfielder as Johnny Cardoso has decided to join Atletico Madrid this summer.

Cardoso has rejected Tottenham’s move to sign him and he is now expected to remain in La Liga to play for Diego Simeone’s team.

Spurs need a holding midfielder this summer, with the North London club looking to sell Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur struggling for consistency.

Top of his list should be Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba who was one of the top midfielders in the Premier League last season.

According to reports, Brighton value Baleba at more than £115m, which Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo, making this deal quite unrealistic for Spurs at this stage.

Exequiel Palacios could be an interesting target for Tottenham

Another great target could be Exequiel Palacios from Bayer Leverkusen, with the Argentine midfielder impressing in the Bundesliga over the last two seasons.

Arsenal and Liverpool scouted Palacios last season and Spurs should certainly think about entering the race with both clubs being well stocked in that position.

During their title-winning campaign, the 26-year-old was particularly impressive and he has proved he is ready for the top level.

Should Cristian Romero stay at Spurs, the club should be getting him in contact with his compatriot to convince him about making a move to London.

“From what I understand, Daniel Levy had a holiday for a post-season break, but he’s back now. I think Postecoglou’s still away, until the end of this week or early next week. Something should have been made clear now.”

TBR Football understands that Tottenham have spoken to other managers, which suggests that Levy has been strongly considering the change of coach.

Thomas Frank appears to be the leading contender to get the job should the Spurs board opt to remove their current manager from his role.

How much Tottenham would have to pay to sack Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham would have to pay in the region of £4 million to sack Postecoglou, plus the £2 million bonus he is owed from winning the Europa League, according to the Telegraph.

The former Celtic manager has two years left on his current deal in North London, and terms of his exit were agreed before he took the job.

However, Levy has had to fork out much more previously to get rid of managers, especially for Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho.

Spurs paid £12.5 million to remove Pochettino as manager in 2019, before shelling out £16 million to also sack his replacement, Mourinho, two years later.

The Lilywhites will also need to factor in the costs of appointing a new manager and his staff, especially if they are going to pay a release clause, like in the case of Frank at Brentford.
