Tottenham have made another major statement in the summer transfer market after agreeing on a £100m deal with Newcastle United for Sandro Tonali.

According to David Ornstein, the Italian will make the switch to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a move worth £92.5m plus £7.5m in potential add-ons based around multiple Champions League qualifications.

Following an almighty scare last season in which they avoided relegation to the Championship on the final day of the season, Tottenham have already made some huge moves in the transfer market as they look to drastically change their position in the Premier League standings.

Having earlier this week agreed on a club-record £85m deal for Mateus Fernandes of West Ham, the north London club will surpass that lofty figure with the addition of highly-rated Tonali.

What Tonali will earn at Tottenham

The incoming arrival of Tonali is a real signal of intent from Tottenham as Roberto De Zerbi looks to drag his team back up the league table to challenge for the top four once again.

Key to that was always going to be about improving the squad, with the additions of Fernandes and Tonali giving Spurs an eye-catching midfield for the 2026/27 season and beyond.

With a £100m transfer for the former AC Milan star now set to come to fruition, the 26-year-old 'superstar' will see a huge increase in what he currently earns a week at Newcastle.

According to The Times, Tonali will almost double his wages to £275k a week once his move to Tottenham is officially complete.

Spurs mean serious business by paying out big money for Tonali and much will be expected of him in midfield when it comes to pulling the strings for De Zerbi's team.

What next for Tottenham in midfield

Tottenham will have a new-look midfield for the 2026/27 season with Fernandes and Tonali set to partner each other in the middle of the park.

Adding some much-needed quality to that area of the pitch, the duo will join players such as Rodrigo Bentancur, Conor Gallagher, Archie Gray and Pape Matar Sarr as Spurs' midfield options.

Tottenham have already seen Yves Bissouma exit the club following the conclusion of his contract, with Joao Palhinha returning to Bayern Munich after his season-long loan spell came to an end.

Lucas Bergvall is also expected to depart as he looks for regular first-team football elsewhere.
