Tottenham’s hopes of landing Liverpool defender Andy Robertson on a bargain £5m deal have been dealt a blow with the move reportedly “stalling”.

The left-back had been in talks to move to North London as he has just six months left on his contract at Anfield. He has lost his place in the starting line-up this season to Milos Kerkez and talks over a new deal are far from advanced.

Spurs made a move for the Scotland captain late last week, with the former Hull City man keen to play regularly at the World Cup this summer.

London World understood a deal had been reached between the clubs for the move with BBC Sport reporting a deal in principle was done for a £5m permanent transfer.

Now Sky Sports has reported the move has stalled as it was dependant on the Reds finding cover at left-back. They have been trying to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his season-long loan at AS Roma.

The Italian club need a replacement for Tsimikas if they were to agree his return to Anfield and the deal is now “looking more unlikely” with just a week left before the window shuts.

Spurs have been targeting some experience with the 31-year-old “seen as a proven winner” by the North London club. Ben Davies is out with a serious ankle injury that requires an operation.

Robertson has won two Premier League titles with Liverpool, along with a Champions League title - which came after the Reds beat Spurs 2-0 to the title in 2019.

Joe Gomez has picked up an injury following Liverpool’s loss to Bournemouth which means they are less likely to allow another experienced player to leave.

Reds boss Arne Slot has also spoken out on a possible exit for Robertson, insisted he needs all of his players.

He said after the defeat to the Cherries: “I think I need all my players. Robbo had to come in at half-time, in my opinion. I always knew that for Milos (Kerkez), another 90 minutes against a very intense Bournemouth side was not a possibility for him, so I knew I would have to bring (Robertson) in.

“I had already had one substitution in the first-half, then you only have two moments left, so I thought ‘let’s bring Robbo in at half-time to make sure Milos stays available for the rest of the season’.

“There’s a lot of games to be played with the players available. I have to manage that as well. The last thing we could need right now is another injury.”
