“He's the first signing since Daniel Levy’s left. They don't want Tottenham to be bottom half of the table. They want them to be pushing for honours regularly. We've heard that from people close to the family.

“So they were hoping, six months time, that Tottenham are ready to really have a big summer in terms of signing players and go again next season and be really in the mix, not necessarily for the title, but to be really in that Champions League conversation.”

Spurs have won just seven of their 21 league games under manager Thomas Frank this season and currently sit 14th in the table, seven points off the top four.

Since the start of November, the Lilywhites have secured just four wins across all competitions, beating Copenhagen, Brentford, Slavia Prague and Crystal Palace.

According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano, the Lilywhites saw their efforts rebuffed by the Bundesliga side, as Leipzig have no intention of selling Diomande this month.

"Perhaps that's a bit harsh. Obviously, he did some really good work at Brentford. The list of players he has transformed there is a long one, and some of the names we are all familiar with - Mbeumo, Wissa, Ollie Watkins.

"Look, he's obviously got something about him, but you know, so far at Spurs, the football has been nearly unwatchable. Honestly, it's been that bad at times. So I think if this is to work for Frank and Spurs, he needs to change. He needs to be more proactive."

Kilpatrick has a point. Tottenham have only won seven games from 21 in the Premier League this season, though five of those came in the first nine. Two wins in 12 is not good enough for one of the 'Big Six' clubs in the division.

Maghnes Akliouche to Tottenham is 'One to Keep an Eye On'

Speaking on GIVEMESPORT's 'Market Madness' podcast, journalist Sessions stated that if any winger was to come in, Akliouche would be their top target - although Tottenham would only pay a maximum of around £43million to land the 'insane' France international, as opposed to the £60million that Monaco desire. Sessions said:

"I think, probably the one that I feel like it's going to happen this window or maybe in the summer, it feels like Maghnes Akliouche actually is one to keep an eye on.

"Spurs were interested in the summer. I mean, Monaco kind of expected him to be sold in the summer. €70million (£60.7million) price tag, I think, put a few clubs off.

"And because they couldn't sell, they actually sort of struggle to reinvest and boost their squad like they'd hoped. But I think Monaco are ready that he is going to be leaving at some point.

"And although he's not a left midfielder, he's somebody that can play on the right, is left-footed, can come inside and play in the 10 as well as the left.

"He feels like, if Spurs are going to sign anyone this month, that they're probably going to be looking at someone like that.

"[Akliouche] is a really good player, but he's not going to be €70million. I think his price is going more close to €50million (£43.3million), which is generally where Spurs are doing their business - even though there has been a change and Daniel Levy has left.

"I don't think you're going to see Spurs spending £70-80million just yet, especially not in January. But I feel like if they're going to sign anyone this window, and they're going to be a wide player, it's probably going to be Maghnes Akliouche."
