Collymore Drops ‘Spursy’ Verdict Amid Postecoglou Sack Talk at Tottenham - GiveMeSport
Description

Stan Collymore has told Tottenham Hotspur they'd be making the "worst decision" should a potential UEFA Europa League win see them continue with Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs have long been expected to part ways with Postecoglou at the end of the season amid a disastrous Premier League campaign. His side sit 16th and have suffered 19 defeats in 34 games.

GIVEMESPORT Key Fact: Tottenham's lowest finish in the Premier League came in 1993/94 when they finished 15th.

The Europa League has been a different story for the Lilywhites, who are on the brink of reaching the final in Bilbao. A 3-1 home win over Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their semi-final tie has stirred up talk of Postecoglou potentially remaining in charge beyond this summer.

Collymore: Spurs Must Sack Ange Regardless

Pundit also hit out at players' "Spursy" mentalities

Former Liverpool striker Collymore gave his take on Postecoglou's situation and didn't mince his words regarding the prospect of the Australian coach remaining in charge (via CaughtOffside):

"It would be the worst decision to keep Ange Postecoglou even if they win the Europa League – and if he does, I can see him not being sacked. If all of the players are behind him like James Maddison has said, that tells me that they really are “Spursy”, and that they are content with finishing in the lower half of the Premier League."

One major criticism of Postecoglou this season has been his stubbornness, not adapting his playing philosophy to an injury curse that ripped his defence to shreds. But he still appears to have his players on side, much to Collymore's dismay:

"They have a squad that should be in the top 5/6 of the league, so for me, the mentality of the players is woeful, and that there are massive holes in Ange’s tactical style."

He added:

"It would be the worst message to send to the Tottenham fans if they keep Ange. There is not going to be a massive change next season if he stays.

Do the club really believe that they can keep the same manager and players but just magically leap up into the top four? To the supporters, Maddison’s comments should be a big wake-up call for the future."

There are similarities between Postecoglou's situation and how Erik ten Hag remained in charge at potential Europa League final opponents Manchester United. The Dutch coach was almost certain to be sacked, but an unlikely FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City saw INEOS make a U-turn and hand him a new contract.

Postecoglou, who arrived in North London in the summer of 2023, has two years left on his contract with Spurs. Earlier this season, he insisted he "always wins things" in his second year, and a Europa League win could save his job and end the club's 17-year wait for silverware.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing Inter Milan centre-back Yann Bisseck but will have to fork out around £47 million, as per CaughtOffside.

Spurs' interest in Bessick comes amid growing uncertainty over Cristian Romero's future. The Argentinian defender recently hinted at a desire to try out La Liga football, and Atletico Madrid is the likely destination should he depart this summer.

Bisseck is in demand, and despite his status as a regular starter under Simone Inzaghi this season, Inter are said to be "open to doing business." He has four years left on his contract at the San Siro, where he arrived from Danish outfit Aarhus GF in the summer of 2023.

Tottenham Keen On Bisseck

The German centre-back could replace Romero

Tottenham have endured an injury-plagued season that has affected Ange Postecoglou's defence. Romero has suffered several injury setbacks, while Micky van de Ven has also been on the sidelines for most of the campaign.

Atletico are reportedly preparing a £42.5 million bid for Romero, and Diego Simeone appears to be driving the pursuit. GIVEMESPORT sources indicate that the club are "tempted" to part with the 27-year-old if offers of around £45 million arrive.

Should Romero be sold, Spurs will need to replace the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner, and it appears Bisseck is top of their shortlist. The 24-year-old is a pacey and versatile centre-back who has earned plaudits, including from Lothar Matthaus. The Germany icon reckons he's "one of the best central defenders in Serie A" and pointed out that you have to be "extraordinary" to play in Inter's defence.

The Lilywhites aren't the only Premier League club interested in the Cologne-born defender. Manchester United, West Ham United, Everton, and Bournemouth are also monitoring the situation.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are on course to trigger their opportunity to purchase Johnny Cardoso during the summer transfer window as influential figures at Hotspur Way are adamant that the Real Betis star's value has already risen since they initially agreed a deal less than 12 months ago, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

Although Spurs will need to spend £20.9million of their budget on Kevin Danso, due to having an obligation to buy the central defender at the end of his initial loan spell from Lens, boss Ange Postecoglou is eager to welcome fresh faces to north London ahead of the 2025/26 campaign getting underway.

Champions League action could still be on the cards next term, thanks to heading into their Europa League semi-final second leg against Bodo/Glimt with a commanding lead, and Tottenham are aiming to show ambition having made Dominic Solanke the most expensive acquisition in their history in August.

Spurs to Profit from Pre-Agreed Cardoso Deal

Midfielder in line to join north Londoners for less than market value

Tottenham are planning to take advantage of their option to buy Cardoso in the summer, according to GMS sources, as there is an increasing belief behind the scenes that he would be a worthwhile investment in their bid to upgrade a squad aiming to end their lengthy wait for silverware.

Although Premier League rivals Manchester United have been threatening to enter the race for the defensive midfielder, thanks to sending scouts to watch him in action for Real Betis, Spurs have the upper-hand in proceedings after reaching an agreement with his current employers last year.

GMS sources have been informed that Tottenham will have a two-week window in which to sign Cardoso for the pre-agreed fee of £21million and, after seeing him play a key role in a UEFA Conference League semi-final first leg win over Fiorentina earlier this week, are aiming to pounce.

The United States international, who has been described as 'extraordinary' by Real Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo, has remained a key part of the La Liga side's plans throughout the campaign despite an awareness that he could embark on a fresh challenge in north London in the coming months.

Tottenham are confident that they are in line to acquire Cardoso for less than his true market value as it is thought that he is now worth in the region of £10million more than the fee they are poised to pay, GMS sources have learned, while Los Verdiblancos will look to sanction a move to an alternative destination if the capital club make a U-turn on their stance.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Johnny Cardoso has been averaging five ball recoveries and 2.3 clearances per La Liga outing this season

Postecoglou in Good Position to Sign Cardoso

Fellow admirers will have to pay premium for 23-year-old

GMS sources have been told that Postecoglou and key decision-makers at Tottenham still believe they are in a comfortable position to win the race for Cardoso even though potential Europa League final opponents Manchester United have started showing interest, while Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen to secure his signature.

There have been suggestions that Wolves are prepared to triple the 23-year-old's salary, with head coach Vitor Pereira determined to bolster his options in the middle of the park, but Spurs have remained optimistic that they are in the driving seat and will be able to lure him into new surroundings.

Tottenham are aware that fellow suitors will have to pay a premium in order to beat them to Cardoso's services, GMS sources understand, and he is increasingly likely to become the first fresh face to head to north London when the transfer window reopens for business in the summer.

The former Internacional man is not the only midfielder in Postecoglou's sights ahead of next season as GMS sources recently revealed that Spurs could make an enquiry over Conor Gallagher's availability if Atletico Madrid aim to recruit Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou could raid his old club Celtic in the summer transfer window, according to reports - with Japan international Daizen Maeda thought to be in his sights ahead of a potential move to north London in the upcoming market.

Postecoglou's men have been terrible in the Premier League this season, sitting just 16th in the league - and although he may not be in a job next season, their Europa League run has given him a real chance of at least writing his name in the Tottenham history books, with the club having gone 17 years without a trophy. But it's the Australian's interest in Maeda that could stand even if he does depart - and Spurs have shown interest in the speedy goalscorer.

Report: Tottenham 'Show Interest' in Daizen Maeda

The attacker has been on fire this season

The report by TBR Football states that Tottenham are among a host of Premier League clubs who are 'showing interest' in Celtic star Maeda ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Japan international moved to the Hoops under current Spurs boss Postecoglou back in January 2022 after a stunning campaign at Yokohama Marinos, and although he took time to cement his place as a crucial first-team player in Glasgow, this season has seen him do exceptionally well. 33 goals from just 47 games in all competitions, including four in the Champions League coming against the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Club Brugge and Bayern Munich, have seen him record some of the best numbers in Europe.

Ranking as the club's top goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, League Cup and the Champions League, it's been an outstanding campaign from the tireless attacker, and that has seen interest from down south, especially with the label that Maeda is the 'best in the world at pressing defenders'. The 27-year-old, who can play across the front line, has always been impressive at Parkhead, and with Postecoglou knowing what he can bring, a deal could be done in the summer.

Brendan Rodgers has indicated that Celtic are ready to enter talks with Maeda over a new deal, given that he has two years left on his deal, but Spurs have watched the attacker ahead of a potential move.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Daizen Maeda has four goals in 23 caps for Japan.

It's thought that Maeda could be available for around £25million in the summer, and the report further states that it would be 'hard to imagine' that Maeda wouldn't listen to an offer from a Premier League club if a bid did arrive.

Done Deal: 52-Year-Old 'Agrees Terms' to Join Tottenham This Summer - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are set to complete a significant return for their former director of football, Fabio Paratici, according to reports - with the Italian chief having 'agreed terms' for a return to the Lilywhites in a shock move.

Paratici originally joined Spurs in 2021 as their director of football, having spent a decade as Juventus' transfer guru prior to that - though he was forced to resign by world governing body FIFA, being handed a two-and-a-half-year ban. However, this summer will see that ban come to an end, and Tottenham have reportedly sealed a deal for him to return to the English capital.

The report by TBR Football states that Paratici has agreed terms over a return to Tottenham after almost two years away from the club, and that a deal is 'sealed' to bring him back to N17.

Beginning his tenure with Nuno Espírito Santo at the helm, Tottenham sacked the Portuguese boss and hired Paratici's former Juventus colleague Antonio Conte to take over at the helm, where he dragged them to fourth place in the table, securing Champions League football as a result. Landing the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur and Cristian Romero, Spurs became a feared outfit - though Conte's spell as boss ended in tatters, Paratici resigned shortly after following his 30-month ban imposed by FIFA.

An Italian investigation saw the former lower-league striker punished for false accounting, which only applied in Italy initially - though that was extended worldwide after a request from the Italian FA. It also saw Juventus docked an initial 15 points before that was reduced to ten, though they were excluded from featuring in European competitions for the following campaign.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur target Roony Bardghji has been alerted to admiration coming from Hotspur Way and the Copenhagen star could choose to link-up with Sweden under-21 teammate Lucas Bergvall instead of joining one of the north Londoners' domestic rivals during the summer, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

Spurs are preparing to face Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday and, despite already knowing that there is an obligation to buy Kevin Danso for £20.9million at the end of his initial loan switch from Lens, boss Ange Postecoglou is eager to upgrade his squad when the transfer window reopens.

Mathys Tel has given the Greek-Australian tactician another attacking option in the second half of the season, thanks to completing a temporary move which includes a £45million option to join permanently, but Bardghji has been earmarked as an up-and-coming talent who could head to Tottenham in the coming months.

Bardghji Knows Spurs Are Among His Suitors

North Londoners one of many sides monitoring teenager

Bardghji is aware that Tottenham want to sign him after they have maintained a long-term interest, according to GMS sources, and the capital club are increasingly confident that the prospect of pairing up with international teammate Bergvall will be enticing when he decides whether to embark on a fresh challenge.

The wide forward has been described as an 'outrageous talent' by scout Jacek Kulig and, having worked his way back into Copenhagen's plans after spending a lengthy period out of action due to a cruciate ligament injury, Spurs have been eager to keep tabs on his performances.

GMS sources have been informed that Bardghji's return to the fray has sparked fresh interest from the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle United, but Tottenham are also long-term admirers and are monitoring his situation after he has been limited to just five appearances in all competitions this season.

The teenager has an existing relationship with Bergvall, who has been on Spurs' books since sealing a switch worth £8.5million from Djurgardens last year, and there is hope that the opportunity to unite with the midfielder after they have played alongside each other for the Sweden under-21 side will persuade him to make north London his preferred destination.

Bardghji has known that Tottenham have been among his suitors for a prolonged period, GMS sources have learned, and he is an increasingly attractive option for Postecoglou as he is on course to be available for less than £10million due to his Copenhagen contract being set to expire at the end of 2025.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Roony Bardghji registered four accurate long passes and won two duels during Copenhagen's victory over AGF last weekend

Postecoglou Sends Scouts to Watch Bardghji

Tactician in danger of facing competition for summer agreement

GMS sources have been told that Tottenham are among the sides to have sent scouts to watch Bardghji since making a full recovery from his long-term lay-off, but they are facing stiff competition as Newcastle and Aston Villa have already been in touch with his representatives to make sure they are kept in the loop ahead of a potential move.

The 19-year-old was ruled out for up to 12 months when he suffered a serious knee problem during a training session ahead of Copenhagen's Championship play-off round clash with Silkeborg in May 2024, but the Premier League has remained a potential destination due to being held in high regard.

Tottenham's pursuit is further complicated thanks to Chelsea seeing Bardghji as a perfect profile for their squad, GMS sources understand, while Manchester City also like him and are threatening to enter negotiations as he fits into their plans to secure up-and-coming talent when the transfer window reopens.

The Copenhagen fan favourite is not the only wide forward on Postecoglou's radar as GMS sources recently revealed that Spurs have a serious interest in recruiting Lyon's Rayan Cherki after his representatives have made fresh contact in a bid to gauge whether a bid could be made.

Tottenham Must Sack Postecoglou and Hire ‘Incredible’ Free Agent Manager

Description

Tottenham Hotspur's summer transfer rumour mill will be dominated by which manager they have in the north London hotseat come the start of next season - with Ange Postecoglou's reign in the capital potentially coming to an end.

An abysmal season in the Premier League sees Spurs sitting in 16th place in the top-flight, just one point above 17th-placed West Ham United - and a strong end to the campaign by the Hammers could see Postecoglou's men become the 'worst of the rest', with only the three relegated sides being worse than the Lilywhites. That has made Postecoglou's position untenable, with only their Europa League run saving his bacon in what has been a largely underwhelming season - leading to other managers being touted for the role.

Edin Terzic's Borussia Dortmund Credentials Show He'd be a Good Tottenham Appointment

The German has been strong in both of his spells at the Signal Iduna Park

That has led to reports from Germany that Edin Terzic, the former manager of Borussia Dortmund, would want the gig at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium should the Australian gaffer be sacked in the coming weeks - and it's an appointment that would make sense for all parties.

The 42-year-old has only managed Dortmund, over two different spells - but both have been equally successful in their own right. The former West Ham assistant, who was under the guise of Slaven Bilic in his time in the East End, took over the Bundesliga giants in the Covid-stricken 2020/21 campaign on an interim basis - and ended up winning the German Cup that season before being succeeded by Marco Rose at the end of the campaign. But his compatriot struggled and left by mutual consent after just a year, leading Terzic to the permanent role.

He only lost out on the Bundesliga title on goal difference to Bayern Munich after being stunned 2-2 at home to Mainz on the final day, but determined not to let his side down again, he led them to an outstanding Champions League run, only being beaten in the final against Real Madrid - leading to him being called 'incredible' by Dortmund's CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke - before resigning at the end of the campaign.

Free Agent Status Means Tottenham Must go for Terzic

The German wouldn't cost a penny in compensation

Out of work for almost a year now, Terzic is keen to get back into the managerial game - and with Tottenham potentially in the market for a new boss, the young coach could be the ideal pickup. Not only does he want the job, but Terzic would be available on a free - which would be fiscally suited to owner Daniel Levy, as he wouldn't have to fork out compensation for his signature, as opposed to other targets such as Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, who continues to be linked.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Terzic scored 23 league goals in 188 appearances in his club career, before retiring aged 31.

Terzic won 75 of his 128 games in charge of Dortmund, only losing 29 in that time - and his attacking style of play would be well suited in the English capital, especially taking over from Postecoglou, who has an 'all or nothing' mantra that has been exposed in large parts this season. Tottenham may not opt for Terzic with other managers who have adapted well to the Premier League being on their radar, but he'd certainly be a strong appointment given his credentials in his homeland.

Tottenham Hotspur are giving indications that they want to win the race to land Rayan Cherki after members of the Lyon star's entourage reached out to influential figures at Hotspur Way and Premier League rivals to gauge whether they are keen to acquire his services this summer, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

Spurs raided Ligue 1 during the winter transfer window, with central defender Kevin Danso joining on an initial loan deal which includes a £20.9million obligation to buy from Lens, and boss Ange Postecoglou is threatening to return to France as he goes in search of more reinforcements before next term.

Plenty of ambition was shown ahead of the campaign getting underway, leading to Dominic Solanke becoming the most expensive acquisition in Tottenham's history in August, and chairman Daniel Levy has been playing a role in pinpointing targets despite the north Londoners preparing for their Europa League semi-final first leg against Bodo/Glimt.

Spurs Hold Discussions Over Move for Cherki

North Londoners sounded out ahead of transfer window reopening

Tottenham have a real interest in signing Cherki, according to GMS sources, and there has been new contact from the Frenchman's representatives as they want to discover before the end of the season whether a move to the Premier League would be possible when the transfer window reopens.

The winger is preparing to enter the final 12 months of a contract which allows him to pocket in excess of £65,000-per-week, leading to his entourage being eager to find out whether any suitors are prepared to head to the negotiating table and test current employers Lyon's resolve in the summer.

GMS sources have been informed that Tottenham are not the only side being sounded out as domestic counterparts Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Manchester City have found themselves in a similar position as Cherki's agent aims to identify potential landing spots after a productive campaign.

The 21-year-old has been described as a 'future Ballon d'Or winner' thanks to his performances in a Lyon shirt and has worked his way onto Postecoglou's radar as the Greek-Australian tactician goes in search of securing additional creativity in the final third of the pitch.

Cherki has been in two minds over whether to head to the Premier League, GMS sources have learned, and he is unlikely to entertain a move to Tottenham's fellow suitors Fulham, Crystal Palace or West Ham United as he will only consider joining a side battling for regular European qualification and silverware.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Rayan Cherki made three key passes and grabbed an assist during Lyon's win over Rennes last weekend

Cherki's Game-Changing Ability Catching Eye

Admirers have discovered what it would take to reach agreement

GMS sources have been told that Tottenham are admirers of Cherki's game-changing ability and, in a significant boost for Postecoglou, Manchester United's interest has started to fade even though he could be given the green-light to embark on a fresh challenge for as little as £25million.

Spurs were among the suitors to send scouts to watch the Lyon academy graduate in action earlier this month, ahead of potentially upping the ante by heading to the negotiating table, and it has become increasingly likely that he will move onto pastures new when the transfer window reopens.

Liverpool and Arsenal would be the most enticing options for Cherki, GMS sources understand, but there is scepticism over whether they will enter discussions over a switch, while Manchester City chief Pep Guardiola is in the market for an attacker matching his profile.

Postecoglou is eager to make his side more prolific, with GMS sources recently revealing that Spurs have been pinpointed as a likely destination for Victor Boniface amid uncertainty over his long-term future on the books of Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, and there is determination to bring in further reinforcements.

'Incredible' Manager Wants to Replace Postecoglou at Tottenham - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur could be in the market for a new manager in the coming months, and according to German outlet SportBILD, Edin Terzic wants to take over from Ange Postecoglou after rejecting West Ham United earlier in the season.

Postecoglou is under immense pressure in north London as his Tottenham side battle towards the relegation zone of the Premier League. His job appears to be under threat, but he remains in the hot seat with Spurs competing in the Europa League semi-final on Thursday night.

A host of managers are being linked with taking over from Postecoglou, undoubtedly applying more pressure on the Australian manager. GIVEMESPORT sources recently confirmed that even if Tottenham win the Europa League, Postecoglou might not be able to keep his job.

Edin Terzic Wants Tottenham Job

He wants to return to management

According to a report from SportBILD (via Sport Witness), former Borussia Dortmund manager Terzic is interested in taking over from Postecoglou if Tottenham were to sack their manager. The 42-year-old is currently a free agent, and if Tottenham were to make him an offer, he'd immediately be keen on entering discussions.

Terzic also rejected an offer from West Ham earlier in the season before they opted to appoint Graham Potter.

Terzic, labelled 'incredible' by Hans-Joachim Watzke, left Dortmund at the end of last season, and he's been out of work ever since. GIVEMESPORT sources confirmed back in January that Tottenham were interested in the German manager, but they opted to keep Postecoglou at the time.

The sacking of Postecoglou feels inevitable at this stage after losing 19 Premier League games this season. Spurs currently sit in 16th place in England's top flight with just 37 points, but the supporters will be hoping a Europa League victory could salvage their season.

Tottenham have an excellent chance of reaching the final of the competition, with a two-legged tie standing in their way of facing either Athletic Club or Manchester United in the final.

Tottenham v Bodo/Glimt Predicted Starting Lineups for Europa League Semi-Final Amid Son Update - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham and Bodø/Glimt will go head-to-head in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final clash on Thursday night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Ange Postecoglou desperate for a positive result.

Spurs were thrashed 5-1 at Anfield on Sunday in the Premier League to add further comiserations to their domestic campaign, while Bodø/Glimt claimed a 3-0 win in their league on Sunday to come into this game in good form.

Both teams have got some injury concerns ahead of the game too, and this is how GIVEMESPORT expect the sides to line up.

Tottenham Team News

Son ruled out

Postecoglou will be without and star forward Heung-Min Son for the game having missed the last four games with a foot injury.

The only other injury problem for Spurs is long-term absentee Radu Dragusin, who won't play again this season due to a serious knee problem. Antonin Kinsky, Sergio Reguilon, Timo Werner and Fraser Forster are all ineligible too.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Postecoglou shared an update on the squad for the game.

"Son won't feature tomorrow night. He's still separate from the group and hopefully we can get him back soon.

"I think we're in a good place. Looking at the output of players we've got some good minutes into players who needed it and managed the others. Players like Romero and Van de Ven have missed so much of the season, it's not just about getting back but how you manage when they come back. Dom played 60 minutes, Madders 45. They're all in a good place physically."

Tottenham Predicted XI

Kulusevksi and Maddison to start

Tottenham Predicted XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bentancur, Bergvall; Kulusevski, Maddison, Tel; Solanke.

Tottenham Predicted Substitutes: Whiteman (GK), Austin (GK), Spence (DEF), Davies (DEF), Danso (DEF), Gray (MID), Sarr (MID), Bissouma (MID), Johnson (FWD), Richarlison (FWD), Moore (FWD), Odobert (FWD).

Spurs have a near-full strength squad to choose from and that should see Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison start in attacking midfield together.

£245,000-a-week trio Richarlison, Ben Davies and Archie Gray are likely to be on the bench.

Bodo/Glimt Team News

Big issues to deal with for Knutsen

Bodø/Glimt are without two of their three starting central midfielders for Thursday's game in north London with Hakon Evjen and captain Patrick Berg suspended for the visitors.

Odin Bjortuft was forced off with a groin injury in the win over KFUM and is set to miss out, while Ole Didrik Blomberg is also missing. Daniel Bassi, Gaute Vetti and Andreas Helmersen all miss out as well.
