Description

Two weeks can be a long time in football, and that is borne out by the predictions of Tottenham’s Opta Super Computer, which sees Spurs shoot up the Premier League table.

Coming into the season, not many neutrals and pundits considered Tottenham Hotspur as favourites to finish in the top six.

That is understandable given that the Lilywhites finished 17th last season with 22 league defeats and that a new manager had walked through the door.

In fact, just before the start of the new season, Opta’s Supercomputer predicted that Spurs would finish in 14th place, collecting an estimated 47.92 points.

Tottenham shoot up the predicted Premier League table

However, the Thomas Frank era started positively for the Lilywhites with a 3-0 win over Burnley at home, and after that result, Opta predicted that Spurs would finish 11th with 50.08 points.

Tottenham have followed that up with a statement performance against Manchester City, emerging deserved 2-0 winners.

While winning at the Etihad Stadium is not a new feeling for Spurs, the amount of defensive control they exhibited left many impressed, with the away side managing to keep Pep Guardiola’s men at arm’s length for the majority of the encounter.

MORE SPURS STORIES

That performance has seen Opta once again revise their predictions, with the SuperComputer now predicting that Tottenham will finish 8th with 55.48 points.

A crucial week of transfers is coming for Spurs

While there have been some very encouraging signs at the start of the season, there are question marks over the strength of Tottenham’s squad.

Thomas Frank has set his eyes on challenging on all four fronts, but in order to do that, the club need at least two top-class signings to arrive through the door.

Description

Gary Neville has been impressed with what he has seen of Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur in the first three games of the season, with the pundit explaining what makes the Lilywhites different to many other teams in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur have managed to keep two back-to-back cleansheets in their first two Premier League games of the season, which is an alien feeling to Spurs fans after what they were used to under Ange Postecoglou.

After the 2-0 win on Saturday, Frank admitted that the clean sheet was what he was especially proud about, revealing that he has spoken a lot to his Spurs squad about the importance of not conceding goals.

Interestingly, Brennan Johnson said after the game that Frank respects defending when asked what the main difference between the Dane and his predecessor is.

Gary Neville is impressed by Tottenham’s adaptability

Many may have expected Spurs to go back to a back three at the Etihad Stadium, but Frank stuck with a 4-2-3-1.

While Tottenham defended well in a midblock through the game, they were not afraid to press the home side high up the pitch at different times and put them under pressure, which directly resulted in their second goal.

Neville was mightily impressed with Spurs’ display and admits that he has liked the way the new Tottenham head coach has used different tactics in each of his first three matches in charge.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The former Man United right-back said on NBC Sports: “I thought Tottenham ran all over them; they looked a little bit like an old team, City, which was worrying.

“Tottenham pressed and hurried really well. Thomas Frank has come in and done a really good job in the first couple of weeks, but yeah, worrying signs for City, because that was a strong team they had out.

“We’ve seen [Frank] in three games, big games in the last couple of weeks, and what he’s done is adapt his style to each game and, obviously, a big criticism of Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou was that they never changed, they were always the same.

“You could predict exactly what they were going to do, and in the end, it was a sorry state for them. But what you’ve seen with Frank: he’ll go five at the back, he’s gone four at the back, they’ll press high, sometimes they’ll sit deep.”

The Sky Sports pundit suggested that we are starting to see a shift in tactical trends as the game is moving away from ‘philosophy’ coaches, back to the ones who set up teams differently in each game, like Frank does.

He also remarked that the win at Man City was much needed to change the mood around Tottenham following the Eberechi Eze fiasco last week.

Neville added: “We’re seeing a little bit more, I think, of a change in this last 12 to 18 months, where we’re seeing the old style of football return.

“It’s been this way for a few years that you’ve got to have a philosophy, you’ve got to have a way of playing, and now it seems we’ve got a few managers near the top end who are adapting from game to game. I think Thomas Frank is adapting from game to game, he’s getting the best out of the players that he’s got.

“It was a little embarrassing for them in midweek, losing Eze to Arsenal, that was a bad one for them, but they recovered really well to get a great result, he’s started well, and the players seem to be thriving under him.”

Tottenham’s latest Luka Vuskovic update hints at new centre-back signing reality - Spurs Web
Description

A new update from Germany has denied previous claims that Luka Vuskovic’s loan switch from Tottenham to Hamburg is imminent.

According to various sources, including Alasdair Gold, Thomas Frank is willing to loan out Vuskovic, which is why he wants to add another centre-back to his Tottenham squad before the September 1 deadline.

The 18-year-old, who has impressed in pre-season, has been an unused substitute in all three of Tottenham Hotspur’s games so far this season.

It has been widely reported since the start of the summer that the Bundesliga is likely to be Vuskovic’s destination, but a new update has suggested that a loan move for the teenager is not close.

Tottenham yet to agree to send Luka Vuskovic to Hamburg

It was reported by Fabrizio Romano a couple of days ago that Hamburg were in advanced talks over a loan deal for Vuskovic, with the journalist adding that an agreement will be completed soon.

However, this has now been contradicted by the print edition of the Bild (as relayed by Sport Witness), who say that negotiations between the newly promoted Bundesliga side and Spurs are still ongoing.

The outlet claims that Vuskovic wants to move to Hamburg, which is where his older brother, Mario, plays.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, it is revealed that Tottenham still have not made a final decision on the Croat’s future, and suggested that Hamburg may be forced to explore other options soon, with time now running out.

Could Vuskovic stay at Spurs?

With just six days left until the window slams shut, the Lilywhites may not have the required time to sign a centre-back.

That could potentially mean that the club decide to keep the former Hajduk Split man until January. However, the best thing for the defender’s development would be to get regular game time out on loan.

Tottenham have 'renewed confidence' on Savinho deal, as Morgan Rogers calculations continue - Spurs Web
Description

The Independent’s Miguel Delaney has said that Tottenham Hotspur are determined to get two attackers through the door before the transfer window slams shut, amid continued links with Savinho and Morgan Rogers.

Regular readers of Spurs Web will be aware that since Tottenham missed out on Eberechi Eze, a flurry of attackers across Europe have been linked with a move to the Lilywhites.

It is not clear at the moment who Spurs’ top targets are, but one thing appears certain: the club want to get more than one player through the door.

On Monday, Alasdair Gold revealed that Tottenham are prioritising signing a number ten and a winger before the window closes, and another journalist has now backed up that information.

Tottenham have renewed hope on Savinho deal

Over the past two days, reports indicate that Tottenham remain intent on landing Savinho but the deal depends on Man City finding a replacement.

Miguel Delaney has now claimed that there is growing hope at Hotspur Way that a deal for the 21-year-old winger would be doable, but the journalist claimed that the Lilywhites have now given up on Como’s Nico Paz.

Delaney wrote in The Independent’s Inside Football newsletter: “Tottenham Hotspur have a few plates spinning, although it almost feels like one speeds up as another slows down.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“There is now renewed confidence that they can get closer to Manchester City on Savinho’s price, especially after talks on Saturday.

“At the same time, Como’s Nico Paz has insisted he wants to stay there, just as Spurs had got quite far into negotiations. That move is no longer being pursued.

“The club have also been mindful of budget – whether to spend big on one position and less on another – as they still seek both a wide player and a central creator.”

Tottenham have doubts about their dream signing

Reports over recent days continue to indicate that Spurs are determined to test Aston Villa’s resolve over Morgan Rogers.

Delaney confirmed that the England international remains Tottenham’s top priority, but the club are not confident about getting their hands on the 23-year-old.

The Independent journalist added: “The ideal would be Morgan Rogers, who remains a priority. But, as of Monday afternoon, Spurs are still working out whether they can get to the kind of price that would make Aston Villa think. The club are naturally wary of another high-profile chase that ends in disappointment.”

Description

Two Tottenham Hotspur stars have earned a place in Troy Deeney’s team of the week, with the former Watford striker singling them out for standout displays in a huge win over Man City.

Tottenham Hotspur followed up their impressive victory over newly promoted Burnley with a statement result against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Goals from Brennan Johnson and Joao Palhinha sealed the win for the Lilywhites, who not only found the net at key moments but also kept City’s renowned frontline quiet, securing a clean sheet at the Etihad Stadium.

The performances of Thomas Frank’s side drew plenty of plaudits, and former Premier League forward Troy Deeney was among those impressed, rewarding two Spurs players with a place in his BBC Sport team of the week.

Tottenham star Brennan Johnson earns praise from Troy Deeney

Writing in his BBC Sport column, Deeney included Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson in the attack after his decisive goal against Manchester City. He highlighted Johnson’s growing confidence and his ability to trouble defenders.

He also explained that Johnson has started to showcase his qualities consistently, noting that he has scored in back-to-back matches.

“He was fantastic against Man City and has two goals in two games now. He looks like he is going to have an unbelievable season because Mohammed Kudus is going to take a lot of defenders’ focus coming from the right-hand side on his left foot. The pace and power he shows is unbelievable,” Deeney wrote in his column for BBC Sport.

Spurs defender Micky van de Ven recognised by Deeney

Deeney did not only focus on Tottenham’s attack, he also reserved praise for the defensive organisation on display, singling out Micky van de Ven for his commanding role at the back.

The pundit applauded the Dutchman’s reading of the game and his leadership in pressing from the back, while stressing that his pace and anticipation were crucial to Spurs keeping City at bay.

“I thought Van de Ven was excellent. A clean sheet against Man City, a team that everyone thought would be flying and back to the way they were. He set the tempo.

“There were three or four occasions where he set the press, he was really tight to his player, even times when he went from Erling Haaland all the way to the goalkeeper. He has been a colossus under Thomas Frank,” Deeney told BBC Sport.

With two wins from his opening two matches, Frank will now look to extend his perfect start when Bournemouth visit north London this weekend.

Daniel Levy makes huge decision over the future of Fabio Paratici following disappointing transfer window - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has made a significant decision regarding future transfer dealings involving the Premier League side.

The North Londoners have experienced a difficult summer transfer window to date and with less than a week to go before it shuts, the pressure is firmly on the club’s hierarchy to deliver some quality signings to bolster the Tottenham first-team squad until January at the very least.

Following James Maddison’s ACL injury, Tottenham have failed to recruit a number 10 with deals for Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze both having ended in embarrassing fashion for the Europa League champions.

Como’s Nico Paz has snubbed a move to Tottenham with the Argentine said to be holding out for a move back to Real Madrid next season.

Fabio Paratici is to officially return to Tottenham

Fabio Paratici was forced to step down from his role of managing director of football at Tottenham after losing an appeal in Italy against his 30-month ban from the game in April 2023.

The two-and-a-half year ban, preventing Paratici from involving himself in football-related activites, originally came after he was implicated in alleged financial irregularities while in a similar role at Juventus.

Despite the suspension, Paratici, who held talks with AC Milan earlier this year has remained a presence at Tottenham, working for the club in an unofficial consultancy capacity.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Paratici’s current consultancy role is set to run until the end of August, with his worldwide ban set to come to an end.

GiveMeSport are reporting that Paratici will return now be given an official role once more at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which will see the Italian responsible for all transfer matters, once the current window has closed.

Could Paratici’s return spell the end for Johan Lange?

It remains to be seen whether the decision to hand Paratici transfer responsibility could see Johan Lange heading for the exit in N17.

Paratici made some top signings at Tottenham during his first stint which included the arrivals of Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pedro Porro, however, there were some flops such as Bryan Gil, Pierluigi Gollini and Emerson Royal.

Tottenham have struggled to get further signings late in the window over the line despite having been linked with the likes of Manchester City’s Savinho and Monaco starlet Maghnes Akliouche.

From ‘good luck’ to ‘good riddance’, Tottenham fans split over latest Yves Bissouma news - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham fans have been left divided after reports emerged that Yves Bissouma is closing in on a move to Galatasaray.

Tottenham Hotspur have not overseen too many permanent departures in this summer window, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s £17 million switch to Marseille standing out so far, alongside Heung-min Son’s £20 million move to LAFC.

However, another significant exit could soon follow, as one of the club’s midfielders appears to be on the verge of leaving after attracting plenty of interest from across Europe.

Fresh reports suggest that Galatasaray are now closing in on the signing of Yves Bissouma, with personal terms already agreed between the player and the Turkish side.

Tottenham fans react to Yves Bissouma transfer news

Spurs fans have wasted no time in taking to social media to share their thoughts on the potential departure, and the reactions have been a mixed bag.

One fan wrote: “The way he performed against Bodo and United in the UEL deserves respect. Absolutely the right decision to sell him, however.”

Another added: “Good riddance. Three good games a year with a ton of attitude problems. Ndombele-lite.” A further supporter commented: “Best time for him to go off those Europa performances. Hope it is around £20 million. Good luck Biss.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

One Tottenham fan simply said: “Thank god.” Others showed more appreciation, with one fan noting: “On his day he was truly special, would not have won Europa without him. All the best in Gala Biss.”

Another posted: “Europa League final performance one of his best. Fitting ending.” And one more wrote: “Show him some love man, turned up in Bilbao when we really needed him, deserves at least that.”

Spurs midfield options after Yves Bissouma exit

Bissouma’s time at Tottenham was far from straightforward, as he often struggled to find consistency, particularly last season.

Despite that, he still played a key role in Spurs’ run to silverware in Europe, delivering strong displays in the semi-final and final of the Europa League.

Thomas Frank, however, has already moved to bolster his midfield by securing Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich, with the Portuguese international expected to anchor the centre of the pitch.

Tottenham and Galatasaray are now said to be working on finalising a loan move for Bissouma, with an obligation to buy set to be included in the agreement.

Bilal El Khannouss is now considering a transfer U-turn due to Tottenham Hotspur’s last-gasp approach after previously greenlighting a move to another Premier League club.

Since they missed out on Eberechi Eze, a whole host of creative midfielders have been mooted as targets for Tottenham over the last week.

El Khannouss is alleged to be one of the options on Tottenham’s radar, with the Moroccan impressing in his debut Premier League season last term despite Leicester City’s relegation.

Over the last 24 hours, some sources have suggested that Daniel Levy has personally stepped in to tie up a deal for the Leicester star, and it has now been revealed what the youngster thinks about a switch to N17.

Bilal El Khannouss is considering a transfer U-turn after Tottenham interest

According to GiveMeSport, Spurs have now seriously entered the race for the 21-year-old attacking midfielder after falling short in their pursuit of Eze.

The report says that Thomas Frank’s men will soon discover whether they have done enough to convince El Khannouss to head to N17.

The player had initially expressed an intention to join Crystal Palace after they made a £32m offer, but is now considering making an eleventh-hour U-turn amid Tottenham’s interest.

MORE SPURS STORIES

El Khannouss has been alerted to the fact that he is on Spurs’ radar, and he will now decide over the next few days, with a move to Thomas Frank’s side emerging as a ‘serious possibility’ for the former Genk man.

GiveMeSport say that the Leicester man is determined to push himself by joining a side that competes at the highest level.

The fact that Spurs can offer him Champions League football is one of the reasons he finds a move to North London to be attractive.

Tottenham identify two Morgan Rogers alternatives, but both seem unlikely - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have not given up hope of landing Morgan Rogers, but they have also identified two alternatives should they fail to secure the Aston Villa star.

It is an open secret that Tottenham are trying to reinforce their attack before the transfer deadline after losing out to Arsenal in the Eberechi Eze transfer race.

A number of outlets have now reported that Spurs view Morgan Rogers as their ‘dream signing’ and have made contact over a deal for the 23-year-old.

Several sources have claimed that Spurs would have to shatter their transfer record to bring Rogers through the door, but it looks like the Lilywhites are not giving up on the England international.

Tottenham identify ‘difficult’ alternatives to Morgan Rogers

Football Insider have now claimed that Rogers continues to be on Tottenham’s radar, with the Lilywhites hoping to take advantage of Aston Villa’s PSR issues and land the attacking midfielder.

However, the North London club realises that it will be a challenge to prise the former Middlesbrough man away from Villa Park.

As a result, Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Como’s Nico Paz and Real Madrid star Rodrygo if they fail to land Rogers.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, the outlet adds that a deal for Paz or Rodrygo would also prove difficult for Spurs, with Como and Madrid demanding huge transfer fees for their player.

Tottenham have already failed with a huge offer for Nico Paz

This update comes just a couple of days after Tottenham reportedly had a €70m (£60.7m) bid turned down by Como for Paz.

According to reports, Los Blancos plan to exercise their buy-back option for the attacking midfielder in the future, and Real Madrid played a big role in Spurs’ offer for Paz being rejected.

With time running out in the transfer window, some Tottenham fans will be frustrated to see the club seemingly going after unrealistic targets.

Yves Bissouma finally closes in on Tottenham exit two weeks after disciplinary action - Spurs Web
Description

Yves Bissouma’s time at Tottenham Hotspur looks to be drawing to a close, with the midfielder now on the verge of sealing a move away from north London.

Yves Bissouma’s future at Tottenham Hotspur has been up in the air all summer, following what was largely seen as a disappointing campaign in the Lilywhite shirt last season.

Despite his poor form, interest in the 28-year-old has not been scarce, with clubs in Turkey, England and even the Middle East all making enquiries over Bissouma’s availability.

The Mali International has just 12 months left on his current deal at Tottenham, and with no renewal talks on the table, the prospect of him leaving on a free transfer next summer looks increasingly likely if Spurs do not cash in now.

Bissouma was left out of Tottenham’s Super Cup squad against PSG due to disciplinary reasons, meaning his last competitive match for the club came in the 4-1 defeat to Brighton last season.

Yves Bissouma set to join Galatasaray from Tottenham

A fresh update from journalist Fabrice Hawkins on X has now provided clarity on Bissouma’s situation at Tottenham, with the journalist revealing that the midfielder is set to join Galatasaray this summer.

According to his report, personal terms between Bissouma and the Turkish champions have already been agreed, while talks between Tottenham and Galatasaray are now at the final stage. It appears to be only a matter of time before the switch is confirmed.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Sharing the latest development on his X account, Hawkins wrote: “Yves Bissouma is set to join Galatasaray. Negotiations at final stage between Tottenham and Gala for the transfer of the midfielder. Personal terms already agreed.”

Spurs close to agreeing loan with obligation to buy deal

Should an agreement be finalised between the two clubs, Bissouma may well have played his final match for Tottenham. His last appearance feels distant, as he has not featured for Tottenham since his omission from Thomas Frank’s UEFA Super Cup squad.

Journalist Mike McGrath has also provided more details on the structure of the deal being discussed by Spurs and Galatasaray. According to the reporter, it is believed that Galatasaray are looking to sign Bissouma on loan, with an obligation to buy the 28-year-old later.

With a few days left in the British summer transfer window, it now looks very likely that Tottenham could secure the departure of one of their senior midfielders.
