Burnley, meanwhile, bounced straight back to the top flight after finishing Championship runners-up to Leeds United last season. Under Scott Parker, they’ve had a mixed summer. Their only win in pre-season came against Huddersfield, with a draw against Shrewsbury and defeats to Stoke and Lazio.

Thomas Frank deployed a back five against PSG, with three centre-backs as the regular pairing of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were joined by Kevin Danso, and full-backs pushed high up the pitch before dropping back when out of possession to contain arguably Europe’s best attack.

It is unlikely he will use the same setup against Burnley, and we can expect him to revert to a front three instead of the front two seen in the Super Cup. That would mean Wilson Odobert, the standout performer on the left during pre-season, returning to that wing role.

Additionally, Richarlison could once again step in for Solanke, with the England striker still building up his fitness having missed pre-season.

Our prediction

Burnley are one of the few lower-table sides without a track record of troubling Spurs, and we expect Thomas Frank’s men to begin their league campaign with a statement win.

Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha both impressed in the Super Cup and should enjoy a strong Premier League debut.

For the visitors, Kyle Walker’s experience will be key, even if his best days are behind him while Marcus Edwards will also likely face his old side.
