Tottenham Hotspur are looking to tie one of their defenders to a new deal, following interest from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

The coming transfer windows will be vital for Tottenham Hotspur as they aim to build a squad capable of competing with the very best in the Premier League.

To do that successfully, Spurs will not only need to add quality in key areas, but they will also have to resist interest in some of their most important players, particularly those who have become central to how the side functions.

New reports now suggest that Tottenham are facing stiff competition in their efforts to retain one of their first-choice full-backs, with interest beginning to gather pace elsewhere.

Manchester City monitor Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro

The report comes from TeamTalk, who claim that Manchester City are keeping a close eye on Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro, with the former Premier League champions weighing up a possible move.

The Spaniard previously had a brief spell at Manchester City but struggled to break into Pep Guardiola’s side at the time, with Kyle Walker firmly established as the club’s first-choice right-back.

Porro has since developed into a key figure at Tottenham under both Ange Postecoglou and Thomas Frank, and Spurs are keen to ensure they do not lose the 26-year-old, who has become one of their most reliable outlets down the right flank.

This is not the first time Manchester City have been linked with a move for Porro, as reports last season also suggested Guardiola’s side were keeping tabs on the former Sporting defender.

Tottenham fans react as Spurs hierarchy make back or sack decision on Thomas Frank - Spurs Web
Description

Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have expressed frustrations following the club’s decision to stick with Thomas Frank after a disappointing run of games.

What started as a promising spell in north London has unravelled for Thomas Frank, who has managed just one win from his last seven Premier League outings.

Defeats to sides sitting in mid-table, those pushing for the top four, and teams locked in relegation scraps have underlined just how inconsistent Tottenham have been under the Dane so far this season.

Despite the mounting pressure on the Spurs boss, reports suggest that following board-level meetings, the Tottenham hierarchy has opted to back Thomas Frank rather than make any knee-jerk decisions at this stage.

Tottenham fans react as club backs Thomas Frank

Spurs fans have now caught wind of those reports, and the decision has sparked a wave of reaction across social media, with frustration, sarcasm and resignation all on display.

Reacting to the club’s stance, one supporter wrote, “Giving the wrong manager time 😂 typical Spurs,” while another added, “Ah crap. We are finishing ninth this season at best.”

However, one fan took a more measured view by saying, “As much as I do not agree with this, if the board have no interest in sacking him we might as well get behind him and give him the backing from the fan side of things.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Others were far less optimistic, with one fan commenting, “We will have the nicest stadium in the Championship next season that is for sure,” while another added, “Two more weeks and we are in a relegation battle. Success.”

The frustration continued to spill over, with one supporter stating, “Ah yeah, already backed him loads in the summer, why not splash another £200m on someone who clearly is not the right manager for us,” before another piled on with, “Hope they are happy with Championship football next season then.”

Spurs season hangs in the balance under Thomas Frank

The frustration from supporters is easy to understand, as the football on display under Frank has been far from convincing and has done little to ease nerves.

Tottenham currently sit in the thick of the table, with just six points separating them from fourth place and the same margin keeping them clear of 17th, a reflection of how fine the margins are at this stage.

The Lewis Family have now made their stance on under-fire Thomas Frank clear, following internal board meetings at Tottenham Hotspur.

After a few weeks that felt like progress at Tottenham Hotspur after back-to-back wins in all competitions, Spurs took a sizeable step backwards at the City Ground as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest.

The Tricky Trees were dominant throughout and looked sharper in every department, with individual errors and a lack of creativity ultimately proving costly for the north London club on Sunday.

That loss marked Spurs’ sixth defeat of the season, leaving them on 22 points from their opening 16 matches, their lowest return at this stage of a campaign since Juande Ramos’ spell during the 2008-09 season.

Thomas Frank backed by Tottenham hierarchy after internal talks

Things need to change in north London, and Thomas Frank is feeling the pressure with every dropped point and defeat as the league table begins to tighten.

With pressure mounting, The Athletic have now shed light on how the Tottenham hierarchy views the situation following Frank’s inconsistent run in the Premier League.

It is understood that discussions have taken place regarding Frank’s future, with meetings held at board level, although these are described as routine reviews that clubs regularly conduct about staffing and long-term direction, rather than knee-jerk reactions to recent results.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Following those conversations, the clear position of the Lewis family is reportedly to stick with Frank and give him the time he needs to steady the side and push his ideas through.

Spurs face defining fixtures as pressure builds on Thomas Frank

It will not get any easier for the Tottenham head coach, with a resurgent Liverpool side up next in the Premier League, a fixture that rarely offers any breathing room.

Crystal Palace, who are pushing towards the Champions League places, follow soon after, making for a potentially unforgiving run of games for Spurs at a delicate point in the season.

Defeats in those two matches could realistically see the Lilywhites dragged into the relegation conversation, with just six points separating them from 17th place.

How much Champions League prize money Tottenham have earned after six games - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are raking in additional prize money thanks to the new Champions League format, but their earnings are still modest compared with some teams.

Tottenham Hotspur are having another poor season in the Premier League, suffering the same number of victories and defeats after 16 matches.

However, the Champions League has been a more positive experience and has seen Spurs achieve 4-0 and 3-0 home wins over Copenhagen and Slavia Prague, respectively.

Tottenham’s form on the road in the competition is far less impressive, but they are still 11th in the league phase in spite of this, just one point off the coveted top eight.

Spurs have earned much less than Arsenal in the Champions League

With six matches played, Tottenham have already received £16.9m in prize money from the Champions League, which is slightly more than Newcastle and Chelsea.

Despite this, Manchester City have earned significantly more, despite winning just two more points in the competition. Pep Guardiola’s side have taken £31.2m from the prize pot and possess a higher value pillar than any other Premier League club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Arsenal sit top of the league phase with a 100 per cent win record, and as a result, their prize fund sits at a whopping £35.5m. This sum is more than double the amount of performance-generated money which Spurs have added to their accounts.

Tottenham need to find form away from home in Europe

The fact that Man City have earned so much more than Tottenham in the Champions League shows how fine the margins can be.

If Thomas Frank’s side had managed to defeat Bodo/Glimt on matchday two, they would have taken a much larger chunk of the prize pot, which is important as January approaches.

Spurs must travel to Frankfurt on the final night of the league phase, and it is important that they finally record an away victory in order to boost their earnings.

Description

Djed Spence was not happy to be substituted at the City Ground, and the Tottenham full-back did something untoward after being taken off.

It is tempting to say that Spurs’ 3-0 loss at Nottingham Forest was their poorest of the season, given how poor the Midlands club have been this term.

However, the reality is that the Lilywhites have already had several of these kinds of performances this season, where they have even failed to lay a glove on the opposition.

Frank has plenty on his plate at the moment as he desperately tries to arrest Tottenham’s slide, and the behaviour of one of his players has now given him one more problem to address.

Djed Spence expresses his anger after Tottenham substitution

Spence’s behaviour was under the scanner after Tottenham’s loss to Chelsea at home earlier this season, with the England international ignoring Frank after the final whistle.

On Sunday, the 25-year-old was replaced on 58 minutes by Ben Davies as Spurs were chasing the game, and the former Middlesbrough man was not too keen to come off.

Alasdair Gold has now revealed that Spence hurled his jacket on the ground after being taken off.

Thomas Frank admits he will look back on Djed Spence’s reaction

The Tottenham boss insisted that he did not see the full-back’s reaction after coming off at the City Ground.

Frank said he will watch it again and suggested it may be down to frustration on Spence’s part regarding his own performance.

When asked if he had any issue with the 25-year-old arguing after being taken off and throwing his jacket to the ground, the Tottenham boss responded: “You’re the third one that said that to me today. I didn’t see it. Of course, I will look back to be aware of it.

“I think there can be three reasons. He can be disappointed with his own performance, the team’s performance, he can be disappointed with being subbed off. I’ll ask him about that.”

Thomas Frank on Vicario mistake, Archie Gray blame, and Pedro Porro headloss at Tottenham - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has weighed in on Archie Gray and Guglielmo Vicario’s roles in the first goal Tottenham conceded against Nottingham Forest.

Spurs fans have seen the script that played out at the City Ground many times already this season.

Their side looked lost for ideas in possession, while individual mistakes at the back cost them dearly, with Nottingham Forest emerging as deserved 3-0 winners.

The loss and the performance have offset the little momentum that Tottenham had built with their back-to-back wins against Brentford and Slavia Prague, with the pressure now mounting on Thomas Frank once again.

Thomas Frank claims Archie Gray will learn from Tottenham mistake

Vicario played the ball into Gray’s feet for Forest’s first goal, with the ball being pinched off the Spurs midfielder after he decided to take a touch.

Frank insisted that the 19-year-old should have played a first-time pass and suggested that it would be a learning experience for the youngster.

When asked about Gray’s mistake, Frank said (via Football.London): “Yeah, you know, that happens. I’ve said before, mistakes happen, stuff like that. Of course, I’ll be irritated about it because you like to avoid it, but he will learn.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I think it was a classic thing, you see, week in, week out. It’s ball-playing to one of the two sitters. Bounce it up, first touch, not take a touch. He will learn from that. I’m pretty sure he’ll use one touch next time.”

When asked if he holds Vicario responsible for the pass into Gray, the Tottenham boss responded: “No. I think you see that every week in the Premier League, from every team, all over the world. So there’s no problem with that.”

Frank wants Spurs players to be more focused

That was not the only unforced error that Tottenham made in the game, with Spurs players giving the ball time and again.

Frank admitted that his players need to remain calm on the pitch and that they cannot afford to lose focus in key moments.

Thomas Frank refuses to deny that 37-year-old is about to leave Tottenham Hotspur - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has made an interesting admission about the future of an important Tottenham staff member amid exit rumours.

The Tottenham boss has no shortage of problems to deal with as the pressure mounts on him once again following Spurs’ 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.

The Lilywhites managed just one shot on target at the City Ground, and the team’s inability to create chances continues to be a pressing problem for the Dane.

He could soon have another problem on his hands as one of his staff members is now expected to leave the club.

Thomas Frank sends a hint about Matt Wells’ Tottenham future

According to reports, Tottenham assistant coach Matt Wells is in line to leave the North London club to begin his journey as a manager.

The 37-year-old is expected to be named as Colorado Rapids’ new head coach ahead of the 2026 Major League Soccer Season.

Frank has refused to confirm that Wells will be staying and appeared to hint that an announcement on his future may be imminent.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When asked if he expects Wells to still be at the club next week, the Tottenham boss responded (via Football.London): “There are definitely a few rumours about that. We will, how can you say, when we know if that will happen or not happen, we will announce it.”

Timing of Wells’ departure is not ideal for Frank or Spurs

Given the turmoil around Tottenham at the moment, Frank needs all the help he can to turn things around.

The Dane has several things on his plate at the moment, not least solving Spurs’ creative woes and planning for the January transfer window.

The last thing he needs at the moment is to be tasked with finding a new assistant coach, and Wells’ departure would increase the workload on him and his existing staff.

Fabrizio Romano reveals ‘internal talks at’ Tottenham as pressure grows on Thomas Frank - Spurs Web
Description

Fabrizio Romano has revealed whether Thomas Frank is in danger of losing his job just six months into his stint at Tottenham Hotspur.

To say that Spurs fans are losing patience with Thomas Frank and his methods would be an extreme understatement.

Tottenham once again never looked like scoring against Nottingham Forest, while the Dane can also no longer claim that he has made the Lilywhites solid defensively, with Spurs conceding 10 goals in their last three away Premier League matches.

For the first time since he took over the job, Frank was very scathing in his assessment of Tottenham’s performance, with the size of his challenge at N17 seemingly dawning on him.

Thomas Frank knows he has to turn things around at Tottenham fast

Speaking after his side’s 3-0 loss on Sunday, Frank asked the Spurs hierarchy for time, insisting that the team’s problems are not an easy fix.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Tottenham are still waiting to see if the 52-year-old can turn things around, but revealed that the former Brentford boss is aware that his position is under scrutiny.

When asked how much pressure Frank is now under, Romano told GiveMeSport’s newsletter (15/12/25): “There’s pressure, there are internal talks, but still waiting to see results improving. Thomas Frank knows that the rhythm must change soon.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

‘Internal talks’ claim by Romano may be bad news for Frank

Romano’s assertions that there are ‘internal talks’ about Frank’s position at Tottenham may be a huge concern for the Dane.

This is the first time we have heard that senior Spurs figures are having doubts about the 52-year-old, and that is understandable, as there are not too many signs to suggest that the team is improving.

Opta’s prediction on where Tottenham Hotspur will finish in the Premier League table makes for grim reading for Spurs fans.

Just when Spurs fans thought their side had turned a corner with two back-to-back home wins against Brentford and Slavia Prague, they were brought crashing down to earth again at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest emerged comfortable 3-0 winners on Sunday, and the away side struggled to create many chances of note, which is something Tottenham fans have got too used to seeing this season.

Thomas Frank referred to Tottenham’s performance as ‘annoying’ and ‘burning’, which is really the first time we have seen the Dane being hyper-critical of any of his side’s displays.

Opta expects Tottenham to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table

Spurs are currently languishing in 11th place in the Premier League table, and that is exactly where Opta’s Supercomputer expects them to finish.

The data-analysis platform predicts that the Lilywhites will accumulate an expected 52.64 points across their 38 league matches.

More worryingly, their algorithm gives Spurs just a 3.23 per cent chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

MORE SPURS STORIES

What would constitute a successful season for Spurs?

According to reports, Thomas Frank is in no immediate danger of losing his job, with the Tottenham hierarchy ready to give him time to turn things around.

However, one would think that his position would become untenable if Spurs finish around mid-table and fail to win a trophy this season.

Jamie Carragher says ‘typical’ Tottenham player is always unfairly blaming teammates

Jamie Carragher says ‘typical’ Tottenham player is always unfairly blaming teammates - Spurs Web
Description

Jamie Carragher is fuming with one Tottenham Hotspur player after he failed to accept responsibility against Nottingham Forest.

Guglielmo Vicario managed to keep two consecutive clean sheets as Tottenham Hotspur defeated both Brentford and Slavia Prague.

However, the goalkeeper conceded three goals against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, and he was one of the players at fault on two separate occasions.

Vicario played a risky pass to Archie Gray, which led to the hosts’ opening goal, and his positioning was nowhere near good enough for the second.

Jamie Carragher slams Guglielmo Vicario after Tottenham display

Jamie Carragher appeared on the Sky Sports Extra Time Show, and he had some harsh words for Vicario due to the role he played in Nottingham Forest’s first goal.

However, the former Liverpool defender is not just frustrated by Vicario’s mistake, but due to his decision to instantly blame Gray.

Carragher said: “It’s not just a keeper playing out. It’s a keeper on his weak foot. Typical Vicario, he is always blaming someone else.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Every time I see a goal go in, he throws his arms at someone else. He seems to do it a lot, and he did it again today. We can talk about young Archie Gray in midfield, but I’m putting this on the goalkeeper.

“Archie Gray could do a lot better, of course, he could, but what the lad does initially is he is trying to help someone who doesn’t actually need help.

“The goalkeeper doesn’t actually need any help because the ball should go out wide to his player. I don’t know what the problem is. There is no real pressure on it.

“But what Vicario does instead of passing with his right foot to Van de Ven on his left foot, he then takes the ball on his left foot and tries to play a little dinky pass here.

“The point I am trying to make about being on your weak foot as a goalkeeper is, there is a reason you’re in goal for one – you are probably not going to be amazing with your feet – but on your weak foot, you are trying to be intricate and trying to pass it to a certain player’s foot.”

Carragher continued to acknowledge that Gray could have done better in the situation. However, he believes Vicario was mostly responsible for the goal.

“Archie Gray can play with both feet, but he is predominantly right-footed – [and] he plays it to his left foot,” Carragher continued.

“Could his [Gray’s] control be slightly better? Of course it could, but for me that is on the goalkeeper. It’s a horrible ball to deal with. Credit for the pressing, you think of Sean Dyche, you think of Nottingham Forest getting after the opposition players, and they do really well.

“But talking about the left foot pass. It’s not a great pass, it’s bobbled in because it’s on his weak foot, so that bobbling bouncing pass into Gray, on his weak foot as well – yes, control should be a little bit tighter – but even if his control was right, Sangare would still be on top of him.

“I’m laying all the blame on the goalkeeper, I am.”

Vicario has to take responsibility for his actions on the pitch

Carragher is not wrong when he claims that Vicario is always looking to blame someone else whenever he makes a mistake.

Even when the 29-year-old made that dreadful error against Fulham, he raised his arms in the air and looked to be shouting at one of his teammates. He did take responsibility for his moment of madness after the match, but he should have been apologising as soon as the away team’s goal hit the back of the net.

It is bad enough that Vicario keeps making errors, but having a poor attitude when these mistakes occur makes the situation so much worse.
